Hiya, Magical Cuties!! Me be Rini - the lil queer clown that runs this circus. A lot has happened to my family, leading to me being stuck in a very emotionally and financially draining situation. The income from my job (in which my hours have been cut dramatically) and passive income from this blog isn’t quite enough to supplement the income that was recently lost. Any goals of dental work and moving out of state for my mental health have been halted and helping my family pay bills/debts is now the priority.

As a result, I’m selling off new/unused to lightly used clothing from my family’s closets, which include both “feminine” and “masculine” clothing that range from sizes XS-5XL with a lot of it $10-20 and under. I gained some weight over the pandemic. As a result, I lost most of my wardrobe. Being a Body Positive Girlie(TM), I thought, Well, that's fine, I will save some money and do a big shopping trip and redo my wardrobe!

I just came back from the first attempted shopping trip and I couldn't find one plus-size tank top I liked.

Knowing the issue is the fashion industry, and not my body, isn't helping much right now

#it was just... I can't walk very long on account of my flat feet #and I went to a big commercial center in a big town #there were clothing stores everywhere you looked #but it felt like I had to swim in the enormous sea of clothing to get to tiny islands of plus-size stores #none of which had SIMPLE TANK TOPS #I found TWO stores that sold SIMPLE. TANK. TOPS.#and both of them had collars up to the neck which #it just baffles me? how can your default plus-size clothing be so high-collared?#you know what that DOES to big boobs? it is NOT flattering.#plus I got ignored and just given 'dunno' flat stares a buncha times when I asked for directions #which is pretty normal in a big busy commerce center #but I already felt so bad because nothing seemed to cater to me #and so much shit was closed? IT WAS 3PM ON A FRIDAY WHY WAS SO MUCH SHIT CLOSED??#at some point it just felt like 'Ugh nobody WANTS you here you dumb idiot GO HOME'#I'll be all right. I'll try a smaller commerce center close to home that I know well.#and online shopping if all else fails #but right now I feel incredibly shitty.

There's nothing quite as irritating as going to a shop which carries some plus sizes online and hoping to find them in store.

Cotton On, fwiw, and like, I've been fat for 38 fucking years so I should know by now that there's literally never any point in trying to go to 95% of shops for clothing I mean, honestly, even if they carry the sizes online, they never do in person, and especially not any shop that is a mass market fashion retailer pitching itself at the average under 50 female shopper.

I'd like a pair of shorts for my holiday and they even had some shorts in the display that came in a 24 online which might fit, depending on cut and material. And really, what's the harm in asking? (Yeah, I can just take sports leggings and bike shorts overseas but like, do fat people wear exclusively athleisure in places like France and Italy? Is that as acceptable as in Melbourne? Who fkn knows.)

"Do you carry plus sizes in store?“

"Uh, yeah. Some."

"Great. Where's the plus size section?“

"Oh, you know. Down the back. Maybe upstairs." (So you don't know where it is? You can't point to the two racks of fat lady clothes in the entire store?)

Astonishingly, there is no section up the back.

So I asked the next lady. "The girl at the door says that the plus section is up the back."

"Urr, we don't really have a section. They're like mixed in with the normal stuff."

"Great, can you show me which shorts come in a 24?"

"Um, well. We only have that size if it's returned and I don't know if there's any of them."

"So you lied about having them in store?“

"No, because we do get returns sometimes." Oh, fuck off.

I just want two things: for people to sell their damn plus sizes in store, to not lie about having them in store and to not waste my time.

I didn't buy anything, I probably won't buy them online because I really don't want to return them if they don't fit and I'm deeply annoyed.

(I'd also like a much better range of fat men's pants and shorts but that's never happening so I'll take whatever I can find in the women's section.)

I want a LOT more support for the body neutrality movement over body positivity at this point because in my eyes body pos gave us midsize people reassuring one another that they weren’t fat and barely-chubby models donning padding and shapewear to create the Perfectly Sexy Hourglass fatty so we could have unrealistic standards just the same as everyone else.
