Folks talking about Game Devs dropping Unity or how it won't hurt small indie devs with under 200,000. Are missing the point.
Some of these Unity games can't change to another engine because they have years of code piled on top of each other at this point. aka POKEMON GO. They'd basically have to rebuild the game from scratch.
Not to mention Unity is mostly used by phone app games or Indie's that are lucky enough to get picked up by console. Indie games on Mobile easily pass 200,000 downloads. Temple Run 1 and 2 are in Unity, Crossy Road, Angry birds 1 and 2, and Hearthstone. All of these past 200,000 downloads years ago but aren't bringing in money now except hearthstone.
The Developers will do what happened to the first Angry birds app. They'll take it down, build it in a new engine for "HD", and add a shit ton of micro transactions. We are about to lose countless original versions of the OG pre lootbox mobile games.
We are also about to lose some of the biggest Indie games of the last decade. Among Us, Plague Inc., 7 Days to die, the original Slenderman game and it's sequel, I am Bread, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dream Daddy, Overcooked 1 & 2, Pathfinder online, Cup Head, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Oxygen Not Included, Bloons Tower Defense 6, Beat Saber, Subnautica, The Stanley Parable, Untitled Goose Game, Power Washing Simulator, Fall Guys, Inscryption, Phasmophobia
And the big one FUCKING HOLLOW KNIGHT. Silk song has already been pushed back out of this year specifically because it's being made by a team of like 3 people. It is so close to being finished and now they are being told they have to start over from scratch basically. Hollow Knight got over 200,000 downloads from being on playstation and was eventually put on Playstations subscription service. Every cent they made from hollow knight has gone back into making silk song. Which might now be delayed by multiple years and oh they are going to have to use some of that funds to pay unity now. Or find a way to get out of a contract with playstation. Because folks will keep downloading Hollow Knight for free and Unity will send the Hollow Knight team the bill.
oh and there's one more teeny tiny game made in Unity that you guys might not want to suddenly disappear. One with almost 3 years of monthly code updates, one with 139 million downloads to date, and 4.8 million monthly users.
Genshin. Guys Genshin Impact is made completely in Unity and that's not a game that can have it's code just copy and pasted to another engine.

PSA from the Alolan rangers
This year, due to unusual cosmic activity, worm holes are going to be frequent, and this corresponds to a predicted rise in ultra beast sightings. The rangers have released information on how to keep yourself safe during the next 8 months until the wormholes die down:
Travel in groups and keep alert. We recommend keeping your pokemon out of their balls if feasible.
Familiarize yourself with the cries of ultrabeasts. [A link to a government website is attached with a soundbank of recorded ultrabeast noises]
If you are deaf or HOH, all service pokemon trained in Alola recently are trained to recognize these sounds, but if you have an older service pokemon or are from out of the region, the Deaf Society of Alola will be happy to loan you a trained pokemon for the duration.
Download the ranger alert app for your rotom dex or rotom phone in case of an encounter or sighting. Remember, it is a $5000 fine for making a false report.
Avoid unnecessary travel during this event. If you are someone who works with wormholes or has travelled through or been very close to one, we recommend leaving the region for the duration if you can or increasing security if this is not an option, due to the likelihood of ultrabeasts approaching you.
Ultrabeasts are frequently startled and confused by their sudden arrival here, and are much more likely to be aggressive or reactive. Do not engage ANY ultrabeast. Avoid eye contact and remain still.
Avoid picking up litter with your bare hands, particularly paper litter that seems folded.
Keep an eye on the skies.
If you find dead wild pokemon that have been drained of fluids, vacate the area immediately.
If you feel dizzy, confused or sleepy, leave the area. Pheremosa may be present. Wear a good quality n-95 mask to provide decent protection.
Avoid power plants if you aren't an employee there. If you are an employee, pay close attention to safety briefings and wear all provided PPE. If your employer is not providing PPE, anonymous reports can be made to the authorities here [A link is provided]
Avoid large forested areas and remain alert for a long, low rumbling noise. Stay away from unexplained wild fires.
Obey all evacuation alerts sent out, and keep a survival kit packed with clean clothes, important documents other necessities. A comprehensive list of essential items can be found at the Alolan governments website.
Avoid coming unto contact with naganadel toxin. This toxin is purple and slightly bioluminescent, with a sharp, bitter smell. It's powerfully adhesive and can quickly cause breathing difficulties. If accidental contact occurs, vinegar has been shown to begin breaking it down. Apply white vinegar to the area and contact emergency services.
Make note of stone walls in your area, and report if new ones appear with no signs of construction workers.
Stay safe and don't be a hero.

Do you miss the Pokemon GO days but feel done with the game?
Here's an alternative for you:
-Download the Merlin app.
-Make an account with Cornell lab of Ornithology.
-Go for a walk.
-Hear a bird? Hit 'Sound ID' and let the app do its thing.
-Hit 'This is my bird' and follow instructions.
Congrats! You just logged a bird sighting! Now go do another.

I never got to have the Pokemon step counter as a kid, where it hatched eggs based on the steps you took in real life. I always thought that that looked like the height of gaming. That was technology lol you know?
I've thought about downloading Pokemon Go, but I'm not really interested in the micro transactions and fights and such.. I really just want to fulfill my childhood dream of having a pokecounter haha and I wish there was an app like that.
I know everyone's upset with the Pokemon company because of their recent gaming flops, but part of me knows that if they made an app that was literally just finding eggs and hatching them with the power of walking, I'd spend money on it (to own it, again, micro transactions gross me out).

every time i mod a 3DS the process has drastically changed from the last time
last time i had to download pokemon picross as a crucial step for some reason? i think to exploit a vulnerability in it? i was scared to delete pokemon picross off the system afterwards in case that bricked it somehow. pretty sure it wouldnt have. the system bricked itself eventually anyway because it was a shitty half broken preowned 2DS and one of the ribbons connecting to the top screen broke or whatever im sure the way that sentence is inevitably wrong stands out to somebody
the time before that, the first time i ever did it, had me open one of the base 3DS applications nobody ever uses and use a QR code to permanently change that app to a homebrew launcher but it became infinitely more complicated by the fact that it was a shitty preowned half broken 2DS where the home button didnt work because the previous owner- a small child- stabbed it. the home button was crucial to the process. anyway the bottom screen stopped working eventually. because of when the kid stabbed it
this time on my not shitty or preowned ancient original 3DSxl from 2016(?) the process had no picross and, helpfully, had a step where the controls to open certain menus could be changed in the case of a stabbed broken home button that would have been great before, and had me navigate to a specific point in the 3DS settings menu, take the sd out, put the sd in my laptop, run a batch file on it, and put the sd back in the 3DS which felt like it was going to explode my poor dual screened surgical patient but instead just automagically changed the settings menu to a homebrew installation menu
this version of the process was the easiest so far though. modding your 3DS has never been more accessible and is the best way to ensure you can continue accessing 3DS games after the 3DS eshop closure.
just dont get one a kid stabbed, or where the top screen sometimes doesnt work and then eventually always doesnt work

((HEADCANON TIME.
So, there's obviously the normal kinds of Pokemon battling that can and do just go based on general Pokemon strength. "Levels" can be checked by scanning them with a Pokedex and you can see that your level 60 Pokemon will trounce that adorable little level 20 in basic battles.
However, there's also the fact that there are battles in official capacities, even casually done, that can either raise or lower the overall power of a Pokemon in games. And I have a theory for how that might work in modern day battles on official League fields.
With the advent of the Pokedex app, it's made connecting to other people way easier nowadays, and it can download data from dozens of other trainers that have similar Pokemon as temp data for a battle. And as such, can make it act like both Pokemon, despite being wildly different levels, are the same in their overall battle prowess! Upon setting that feature on the field, it can, with a li'l bit of energy flowing through the barriers nearby, bolster defenses and attacks.
Which means a level 60 won't hit as hard, and that level 20 should hit notably harder, making it as though they're both at skill level 50! It's things official tournaments would normally use to see things like Pachirisu waltz in and wreck a team of dragons.))

Japanese Video Games and Your Consoles
Hello! This post is for people that want to play video games in Japanese and want to know which consoles play them, so I'll go through the ones I know about, here. (Not going to talk about sailing the high seas here)
I've been mostly a Nintendo nut my whole life, so most of my info is about Nintendo!
Hopefully this helps someone!
Gameboy Color/Advance
Tumblr media
Region Free
The Gameboy, Gameboy color and Gameboy Advance are all completely region free. Your Gameboy models will all play Japanese games just fine.
I recommend:
Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Crystal, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald
Pokemon card game and the sequel GR団参上
The Legend of Zelda the Minish Cap, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons
--------
Super Nintendo
Tumblr media
Region Locked, simple devices available
The Nintendo and Super Nintendo were both region locked by the cartridges themselves being of a different shape. You can either buy a Super Famicom (The Japanese equivalent) or buy a peripheral to make your Super Nintendo play super Famicom games. It's not too cost prohibitive to buy what's called a "Cartridge converter". Another option is to buy a Retron system that plays them.
I recommend:
Mario RPG
Final Fantasy
Earthbound
--------
N64
Tumblr media
Region locked, easy modification
N64 is region locked based on the shape of the cartridge back. To get your Japanese games to work on yours, switch the back off of the actual cartridge using a 3.8 mm Gamebit screwdriver with the back from any other US cartridge.
I recommend:
Mario Story (Paper Mario)
Mario Party
Pokemon Snap
Legend of Zelda games
--------
Gamecube
Tumblr media
Region locked
Buy a Gamecube capable Japanese Wii.
I recommend:
Pokemon Coliseum
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
All the Mario Parties
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance if you can get it (EXPENSIVE)
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Legend of Zelda Windwaker
Battle Houshin
--------
Wii
Tumblr media
Region locked
I bought a Japanese Wii, but skipped the WiiU in Japanese.
I would recommend:
Captain Rainbow (Japan Exclusive)
Takt of Magic (This one is FUN! It's Japan exclusive and you use your WiiMote to cast spells by drawing shapes)
Earth Seeker (Japan Exclusive)
Legend of Zelda (Skyward Sword)
--------
DS
Tumblr media
Region Free
The DS is completely region free. Any DS game will play on your device.
My recommendations:
Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks (You can hold your stylus on a kanji to read it in Hiragana, but it won't show by default! Awesome!)
Any Pokemon Game (You can choose Kanji or hiragana and switch mid-game)
Ace Attorney series - If you want to struggle but skyrocket your reading level, play Ace Attorney, called 逆転裁判. There are a lot of games and they're mostly great. If you can get ahold of the spin off, 逆転検事, I played through the first one and it was a bit slow, but the second one is not released in the US. I've started it, it's supposed to be good.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days
--------
3DS
Tumblr media
Region locked
Having a Japanese 3DS has been an invaluable tool. If you save up to buy one Japanese version of a console, get this one. However, with the e-shop closed, if you would rather sail the high seas here, this would be... The prime time to do so, but I did not say anything.
Recommended:
Fire Emblem Fates
Fire Emblem Echoes
Pokemon Moon
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Sonic games
Bravely Default (Fully Voice acted)
There is SO MUCH on there
-----
Nintendo Switch
Tumblr media
Region Free
The Nintendo Switch will play any region game you put in it! On top of that, the Japanese language track is available on most Nintendo branded games, so if you have the English version, you might already have the Japanese version!
To buy on the e-shop, make a Japanese Nintendo account. You will need to buy gift cards from a third party site like Playasia to purchase.
Recommended:
Get the online pack, then download the Japanese version of the N64 and Super Nintendo apps! I recommend Paper Mario on the N64 app.
Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (Has Furigana on all dialogue!)
Mario Odyssey
Princess Peach Showtime
Mario RPG
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pretty much anything you can play on Switch can change to Japanese. (Splatoon not included)
This thing is a learning machine.
-----
PSP
Tumblr media
Region Free
PSP is completely region free!
I have played Birth by Sleep on here in Japanese and it was good.
Recommended:
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
--------
PS1/PS2
Tumblr media
Region Locked
There's a trick to make these region free, but I bought a Japanese Ps2. If you want to unlock your non-Japanese Ps2, you can look into something called Disk Swapping.
My recommendations:
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
I haven't explored much by way of Japanese only Ps2 games yet, but I'm going to be getting Endonesia because it's made by some of the same people that made Moon. Look into Moon, it's an awesome game too.
I am aware that the Japanese only library for this particular console is large.
--------
PS3/PS4 (I do not own PS5)
Tumblr media
Region Free
PS3 and PS4 are region free, and I have heard PS5 is as well.
My collection of Japanese games for these, however, is low so I don't really have any recommended games. Maybe I'll update this later.
To buy on the Japanese PS3 and 4 shop, you will need to make a Japanese playstation account. After this, you will need to use a third party website to buy gift cards, such as PlayAsia, to add money. You should be able to buy and download as long as you have the money in the account.

Hey there. I'm a target employee, and I want to tell you something that could actually help you in the long run. No, this isn't a promotion for target. No, I'm not being paid to say this.
Scan everything you are buying. Target will price match.
If you frequent shopping at Target DOWNLOAD THE APP AND SCAN EVERY ITEM YOU INTEND ON BUYING WITH THE APP. THE ONLINE PRICES ARE SOMETIMES DIFFERENT FROM IN STORE PRICES, USUALLY BEING FAR CHEAPER, AND WE ARE REQUIRED TO PRICE MATCH THAT.
Tumblr media
This is the home screen of the app. To scan a product you're going to locate:
Tumblr media
This at the top of your screen and press:
Tumblr media
That silly lil button right there.
Scan the barcode of every item that you intend on buying. I helped a lady the other night save $35 on a blow dryer. It rang up for $74.99, and after she scanned it with the target app, it came up as $40. Another woman was buying a big pokemon collectors box that was $54.99 in store, and around $39 dollars on the app. I'm not sure as to how many other price differences there are.
Store websites Target will price match
•Walmart
•Best Buy
•Costco
•Apple
•Barnes and Nobel
•Chewy
•CVS
•Dicks Sporting Goods
•Gamestop
•Home Depot
•JC Penny
•Kohls
•Lowes
•Macys
•NewEgg
•Office Depot
•Petco
•Petsmart
•Sam's Club
•Staples
•Ulta Beauty
•Walgreens
•Amazon (FIRST PARTY SELLERS ONLY)
TARGET CIRCLE IS ALSO A VERY USEFUL TOOL.
Target Circle is the loyalty program created by Target and is entirely free. There are coupons and ads put on there that aren't shown in stores, and those that are usually hide that they're target circle exclusives.
There are usually also offers for gift cards after spending a certain amount on mostly cleaning supplies, laundry care, and necessities.
This is a no brainer for saving money In a world of rapidly rising and high prices. As a punk stuck working for a corporation because it is the only job I could get, I want to help people done whatever they can in spending money.

I downloaded the eBird app on my phone a while ago to participate in Big Day, where teams of birders around the world work together to spot 100 species (or more) in a single day.
I feel like I’ve since become a bit addicted to eBird because its a lot like a real-life Pokemon Go but more zen:
-I gotta go outside to find the birds and correctly ID them
-I get to use binoculars which are fun af
-I take out my headphones to better hear birds and in doing so I get to hear more birdsong and have gotten a little better at IDing birds from their song
-Warblers are SHINIES and now I know where to find three different species now
-I try and beat my personal species count day to day and now have a goal to try and make the top 100 in the county
-I’ve found half a dozen new birds in two weeks that I never knew existed
-I’m spending less time online and more time outside <3
I’m not really saying any of this to brag but as someone who adamantly refused to call themselves a birder (even if I was) cause my experience of birders previously was ‘snobby pedantic old people’ I gave it an honest try and the people I HAVE met doing it since have been truly lovely.
-Three people that saw me and my binoculars on the beach told my about a nesting heron colony nearby and told me to check it out. I never would have known <3
-The couple I met at the marsh yesterday alerted me that there was an unseasonable swan at the lake ahead ‘really far out but I should be able to see it.’ :) What a fun find!
- A fisherman at the lake trail told me of a few good places to see owls if I wanted to add them to my list.
I don’t really know why I’m writing all this. I guess if you have a bad experience with folks when you try to get into a hobby, don’t assume everyone’s like that. And if you want to give birding a try, eBird is a fun app with pre-made checklists of birds in your area and its a fun hobby to pick up.
It’s my new zen and how I unwind from work. It’s been nice to get outside and be reminded that everything isn’t terrible all the time.

Ash's Pikachu's Ryu Number of 3 was defined as a Limited Ryu Number on the basis of the Ash-Greninja distribution being a pre-order bonus. This is incorrect. Ash-Greninja's distribution was in the form of the Pokemon Sun and Moon Special Demo, a still-available free 3DS app where you can get Ash-Greninja and transfer it to the full game to this very day. In about a month's time the eShop is going down and the demo will be no longer downloadable, but I don't think that has any bearing on this.
I maybe should have clarified in the post in question; that route is for a Limited Ryu Number because Ash's Pikachu is time-limited, not Ash-Greninja.
