HISTORY / TIMELINE:

17/08/2002 - Latios and his sister Latias are hatched in the Secret Garden, their father hoping for them to live an easy life compared to past generations of Alto Mare's guardians prior to his sacrifice to create a new Soul Dew.

02/09/2004 - Latios scares away three thieves for the first time, using his invisibility to creep them out and toss them around. After this, he begins to take his duties even more seriously.

Over the years, Latios (Lapis) and Latias keep an eye on the city. It remains mostly peaceful throughout their lifetime, which is both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing not only because it means that the city is safe, but because they have more free time to play with eachother, the Pokemon friends in their garden, Bianca, and Lorenzo. On the other hand, it is a curse because the two guardians of Alto Mare will not be prepared for when actually competent thieves make their move on the town due to their lack of real battle experience.

Such was the case with Annie and Oakley, the thieving sisters that unlocked the city's secrets and found their way into the Secret Garden. Latios and Latias try to drive them out, but are outmatched by the Espeon and Ariados that the sisters wield, who are much more experienced than the guardians. Their invisibility and shapeshifting tricks won't work because of the girls' technology, and the electrical nets used to capture the duo were powerful enough to subdue Latios, who urged his sister to flee, and mustered up enough strength to protect her from further harm, but not enough to keep the girls from taking the Soul Dew from its pool.

Taken to the museum in order to unlock the mechanism keeping the DMA in place, Latios can only watch helplessly as the girls activate the machine with the Soul Dew and use it to destroy the very town that it was built to defend. He desperately reaches out to Latias through Sight Sharing, and waits, feeling the mechanism slowly draining his life force. By the time Latias and the boy she befriended arrive at the museum, he is severely injured. Latias breaks him free of his cage through Safeguard, but the damage is done, and the Soul Dew is destroyed. Latios, Latias, and the humans all rush out to see what's going on, and see the water leaving the city, only for it to come back in a massive tidal wave.

Despite his injuries, despite everything, Latios uses his strength alongside Latias' one last time to calm the water and send it gently flowing back to the city, proving himself as a guardian once more. But the act took the remainder of his energy, and he passed away, later using his Sight Sharing to gift a new Soul Dew to the group. His only regret is leaving his sister without family, but he will always fly alongside her, even if she can't see him.

VERSES:

PRE-M05 (DEFAULT): Before Latios sacrificed himself. A guardian of Alto Mare, always ready to protect his town.

POST-M05: Though Latios is gone, his spirit still remains. Perhaps a few souls will still know he is there.

ANOTHER SUNRISE: Pokemon Heroes AU where Latios lives to see another day and has more experience to face such a dire situation in the future. Basically just a copium verse.

Sure we're going to write Misty out of movie 20, but that's okay cause we'll give you two filler anime episodes with her in them..... and then write her out of the next move too! Bwahaha! I swear, Giovanni must be running the Pokemon Company now.

I am so confused. The last movie Misty was in was M05. There is absolutely no reason that she’d be in M21 at all????????

@em-exceeds-change-zearu @taconightfury @pastel-myth so canon mirror!ash was, of course, the opposite of what ash actually was like. the whole mirror world was different than the canon world, after all. ash is unsure of himself and his battling skills, and was pretty flighty, judging by how easily he was willing to leave his traveling group after only minor hardships. in my au, he's all of those things, of course. opposite of ash, doesn't have much faith in his own abilities, quick to flee. and, of course, he's still the chosen one. that's a constant, no matter what universe. if ash exists in any version of the pokemon world, he's the legendary pokemon's chosen one. now, of course canon!ash more or less handles his "duties" well, protecting the legends as well as he could, even if he doesn't necessarily understand why he's doing it. mirror!ash though, oh boy. he still ends up on new island with mewtwo, and he gets through that, helping how he can, just not as boldly as canon!ash did. he's still killed there, as he did step up in the end. that was a relatively minor conflict though, compared to others, and he was just there. it wasn't his "duty", necessarily, to stop mewtwo's anger. and on top of that, he had his memories wiped of the whole situation. but once he gets to the orange islands, oh boy. of course the birds are fighting, these conflicts were set to happen. but this is really the first time ash has been tasked to save the world. the first time he's told of his status as the chosen one. and he can't handle it. after all is well and done, he couldn't handle the near death, the pressure, and this duty he now feels he has to serve. he's 10, after all. while canon!ash learned how to deal with the near-drowning and the conflict and the pressure, mirror!ash can't move on. he's done with his title. he desperately avoids any conflict with legendary pokemon, no matter how fascinating they may be. of course he wants to help, but he's also terrified of failing. he doesn't think he's set out to be the chosen one, and he's scared of being hurt again. the legendary pokemon are attracted to him, and he is to them, but that doesn't force him to do anything. while canon!ash would run towards a needy legendary pokemon, mirror!ash runs away. continues on with his journey. and of course, these huge, near-world ending conflicts happen anyway. the world isn't gone, but it's different. ash is the one who is supposed to resolve these issues as completely as he can, but he's not there. of course, people aren't going to sit by and do nothing, there are people who step in (perhaps bianca in m05, for example). but they're not intended to fix these issues, so damage is still caused. for example, alto mare isn't destroyed, but rather is damaged, and must be rebuilt in places. legendaries still clash, and the landscapes are vastly different in some places. cities end up underwater while chunks of ocean dry up. people that could've been saved are now gone. pokemon (even legendaries) that shouldn't have died are dead. the world is different. ash watches the news reports with the sinking feeling that he should've been there, and done something. and he's ashamed. now, this ash is not inherently bad, just as canon!ash isn't inherently good. he just couldn't accept his position as guardian of the legends, while canon!ash more or less did. so of course the interaction between canon!ash and mirror!ash is really interesting, especially because this is around the point ash is beginning to majorly question his role as the chosen one, and he's considering just. stopping. for his own sake (not gonna say slowly and painfully freezing to death and suffocating in the victini movie had a major effect on his current view on his position but yes that's what i'm saying). so going to this mirror world where he didn't do his "duties" is eye-opening. and, while canon!ash is still really unsure about where he stands in his own world as the chosen one, he doesn't like the damaged world he sees. so on top of trying to convince mirror!ash to be more confident, canon!ash also has to convince him to have faith in his ability as the chosen one, and to trust his friends to help. it helps canon!ash a lot, tbh, having this interaction. and of course, the final message he yells before the 'portal' (which honestly might've just been some pokemon fucking around with ash to show him 'look what you could've been like) closes is for him to accept his destiny, and of course he's vague and his friends don't know what he means. but yeah this was way too long i thought about it too much tldr: mirror!ash is the ash who doesn't accept the chosen one title and the world is vastly changed for the worse because of it, so canon!ash starts to think about the impact he really has on the canon world

Our next new promo image in the run-up to Friday's episode. I've heard some speculation it's that Latias from M05 and it might just be since these announced episodes seem to be focusing a lot on old characters.
