Ingo and Ingo and Emmet Hop The Multiverse

-Premise- On a day that would have otherwise been entirely unremarkable, Ingo and Emmet- Long standing Unova Subway Bosses -stumble across a very strange missing link. It would seem that, somewhere in the history books, there is a man named Ingo who looks just like him, yet they have no Sinnohan family lineage or any other sort of family ties that would lead them to believe this isn't some impossibly insane coincidence. Unable to let this strange thread go, the two of them decide to take investigation into their own hands.

With the assistance of some higher powers as curious and whimsical as they are, if not more, they travel back into Hisuian history and find... Ingo. A man just like him- A man who seems to have been Emmet's brother... But it doesn't seem quite right! Their benefactors can confirm that they don't have any temporal disturbances lined up for them, which can only mean... He is not Emmet's twin. Or rather, not this Emmet's twin.

Determined to return him exactly where he belongs and reunite this brother who fell so far from home, the three of them set off across the multiverse- Helping every other set of alternate twins they encounter along the way!

-Noteworthy Points- This AU is open for crossovers! The wacky adventures of Emmet, his brother Ingo, and his other brother who is Also Ingo. They've adopted him. It's essentially an open ended fix-it fic for me (or us!) to invent silly, emotional, or extremely unlikely scenarios for multiverse shenanigans :D

The two Ingos differentiate from each other with their clothing, and they also go by different names. Warden Ingo goes simply by Warden, and I haven't decided what Subway Boss Ingo goes by, but I think it's likely he often just gets called "Brother" because that is what Emmet defaults to calling him when differentiating between the two.

Speaking of their clothing! Their outfits are custom made! (Elesa hooked them up, they returned home to make plans and get to know Warden better!) This is primarily so they can distinguish each other from alternate selves, but also so that they don't accidentally lose each other in the shuffle. Warden's coat is still his original coat, just now outfitted/dyed to match the other two. His arm band is completely untouched, though. (Arm band symbolism, as you can see, is my fucking BRAND)

The logos on the twins' hats and on Warden's pin/tunic are a design I made :D

Lastly! They have MANY gadgets and doodads! Their benefactor tech'd them out for their adventures with lots of safety equipment and other items needed for cross-dimensional travel, and presumably they also watch their antics closely and with great amusement. I haven't decided exactly who is helping them, but so far we're leaving it ambiguously open to one or more legendary pokemon. (Dialga and Palkia are high up there but I have yet to decide.)

They are going to cause so many hijinks.

Legends Z-A Thoughts and Theories!

Okay, I was pretty quiet on my opinions for Scarlet and Violet, but I'm confident enough to be very pleased and optimistic for this! Legends Arceus was the strongest Pokemon game we had in a decade, and to see them continue this, bring back Megas, and take an extra year to hopefully make it non-buggy? Makes me so so excited!

On Megas:

It's a bit of a surprise to see Megas back, but honestly? Not too much of a surprise. Even ignoring the inevitability of Kalos remakes, Megas are the only gimmick Pokemon kept around in their spinoffs. It was in Mystery Dungeon, Shuffle, Smash Bros, Pokemon Go, and probably more I'm forgetting! So it was always in the back of Gamefreak's mind and I'm glad it's truly back again!

With Gens 8 and 9 bringing back cross-gen evos, I think they'll focus on only giving Megas to three-stage lines, to not quash the potential of 2nd stage Pokemon getting regular evolutions. So starters and Pokemon like Flygon can get Megas since they can't evolve further, but Pokemon like Tropius and Chimecho probably won't, in case they get evolutions in Gen 10 (That then get Megas)

I also don't think we fully grasp how many more Pokemon can get Megas now, too. Barely any of Gen 5 and 6 had Megas (Seriously only 2 Pokemon between the 228 Pokemon in those gens) and we've had THREE more generations since then!!

Note: We went from wanting a Dunsparce evo, to wanting a Dunsparce Mega, to getting Dudunsparce with mixed fan reception. Now I'm going to be a selfish deluded clown bitch and get my hopes up for a Mega Dudunsparce.

Speaking of starters and Megas, do we think we'll get a mish-mash of older starters for this game that then get Megas (Say, Piplup, Snivy, and Scorbunny) or will we get Megas for the three Kalos starters?

Megas may mean Mega Stones return as held items, and held items weren't in Legends Arceus- new gameplay advancement?

Legends Arceus gave us 7 new Pokemon (most of them cross-gen evos) and a dozen new regional forms. Do you think we'll still get regionals this game, or will the design team be focused more on making new Megas instead?

On the world:

It's been confirmed the whole game is only in Lumiose City- how big is the map?? Hopefully we really do get lots of sidequests, biomes for wild Pokemon, and traversal options.

When is this? We're redeveloping Lumiose City, but are we in the past developing it into its current state, or are we in the present/future developing it into a new solarpunk city? Or neither, and this is a "Paradox" game set in a timeline which doesn't quite match ours?

This doesn't have to be an isekai (as in, we don't have to be time travellers again per se), just keep that in mind!

The "Z" in the logo represents Zygarde, with the black color and green hexagons. So who's the "A"? It's green with green scale/leaf patterns on it. What does it represent? The "Chaos" to Zygarde's "Order"? Is it a 5th Zygarde form or is it a whole new Pokemon?

Meta thoughts:

This further confirms my theory that Gen 9 will last until 2026, where they announce Gen 10 on that year's Pokemon Day for their 30th anniversary, and that's great! I'm glad they aren't overworking themselves too much compared to Gens 6-8.

On them "skipping" Unova remakes: I don't see this as skipping. We've been long overdue for a Z version since Kalos is literally the only Pokemon region to only appear in one release (no third version, no remakes, no sequels, no ultras, no DLC). So we're simply making up for the "deficit" of a third version here, and we can go back to focusing on Unova remakes for Gen 10.

Do you think we'll get any final updates to SV to tide us over until the next LegendZ trailer around August? Maybe a small DLC, mythical reveal, or free update?

Pokemon Adventures skipped the last Legends game, so they'll probably skip this one too? I'm fine either way- at least by skipping it, they won't be too rushed and stressed, and they'll actually have the time to flesh out SV and catch up with ORAS/SM/USUM/SwSh in the full volumes.

But on the off chance they do adapt Legends Z-A, do you think we'll get dexholders named Z and A??

Note for the future- the Yoasobi Pokemon song BiriBiri has a part where they namedrop all the game titles- one part has the lyrics "ABC to the XYZ". Long shot, but if Legends Z-A does indeed have an ABC theming, this could be a crazy bit of either coincidental or intentional foreshadowing!

Hello guys!

I'm back home and ready to push forward. Looking at the poll, I've decided that it's close enough to justify switching it to a week-long poll schedule.

What does this mean for you?

Functionally, very little. From the dialogue that we've had today, I've come to the conclusion that doing all the first rounds at once is likely a better approach anyway, so even if we kept day-long polls, we'd be doing the same general thing.

The following is a summary of additional changes:

I won't consider the 11 polls released so far. Those Pokemon will be re-shuffled amongst themselves and re-released at the end of the Gen 1 Round 1 cycle.

I've decided to keep my 12th hour reblog schedule as is. Polls will remain open for 1 week, they'll be reblogged 12 hours after they were initially posted, and after that, any further circulation will be up to you guys.

I will be introducing "close call" rematches between two Pokemon who were close-ties in matches with more than two Pokemon. These are likely to be released on "no-poll days" but may be released among another Generations to keep things on track. These will also be a week long. I've decided that this is necessary as the additional Pokemon may have split votes. (I'd do ranked-choice voting if I could, but that's a bit much here.)

I'll be updating the pinned post to reflect these changes once I've got my queue ready!

Additionally, I've decided to face my fears and will try reaching out to Pokemon blogs with large followings to try to spread awareness of the polls. If you know of any such blogs, please attach their urls to this post!

WOW! What a way to return back here!

With lots of treats and possibly some asks answered in the upcoming days (no worries if this gets lost in the shuffle during all of this)

Just wanted you to know that it’s good to have you back here and that you’re back with a big update as well! Felt like receiving a bunch of presents when I read the new chapters!

I love the dynamic between Ingo and Phione and how much different the overall atmosphere feels and changes before and after Ingo finds out. And how each chapter emphasizes how frail, small and vulnerable Phione actually is. It’s only fitting that the Murkrow chapter being the last of the bunch!

Also Ingo's voice being worn out after all his searching really tells a lot. I kinda imagine it takes a lot to make him hoarse since he is rather loud so his voice being pretty worn out also shows how much he pushed his limits as well. It’s been obvious overall but this kind of makes the picture complete.

I could go on and on about how much I love all the little things that I‘d be here for days. But I want you to know how much I appreciate your updates and how grateful I am that you took your time and rested when you needed to.

I hope you’re doing also better overall. Try not to overdo things for now. Do take small steps. As you’ve planned right now actually sounds not too bad.

And likewise, it's felt like a bunch of presents seeing all of the notes and comments you have left on my reblogs and works and all the encouragement you've given me; I still very much enjoy creating and sharing this content just because I have so much fun with it and will keep doing it regardless, but reading your thoughts and commentary have felt really rewarding and motivating ;w; (and I will respond to them as soon as I can too!)

I'm really happy you appreciate all of the details I've put into it, it's been fun picking different points where their dynamic is different based on what they do or don't know at that moment! And I really emphasize just how fragile a phione is because whenever I look the pokemon up for information, I just get SO MANY videos and posts about how terrible and useless and disliked phione is as a pokemon (viably, at least). It's kind of funny to me haha

And about Ingo losing his voice in one of the chapters - EXACTLY!! I did give it to him cause I was dealing with a sore throat myself at the time of writing it and was taking it out on him lol, but Ingo obviously has a very loud, strong voice. If he used it to the point of losing it, he used it A LOT. He's not maintaining himself, and I did think taking away something of his that is normally so strong would sell that well. I'm glad it did!

Overall, thank you so much for the supportive and genuine things you always say in my inbox and reblogs. It means SO MUCH to me and it makes me happy that I've seemingly been able to give you something back that you enjoy after you've given me so much patience and understanding when I couldn't!! I plan to still take it easy as I continue getting better, but I'm happy I'm at a point where things can actually move again ^^

“We’re back!” Nox confirms.

“Right. Cool. Um. Update, Champion Cynthia is doing the interrogation,” Garnet explains. “We’re just here for extra security.”

“We just want to know what’s going to happen,” Nox corrects. “Champion Shirona doesn’t need extra security.”

“Shh,” Garnet whispers playfully, and Nox giggles before abruptly going quiet.

“Right. Serious face,” they say, the pitch of their voice a bit deeper than normal. 

There’s a bit of shuffling, and once it stops, Cynthia’s voice asks, “Is the recording back on?”

“Ye!” Nox replies. 

“Magnificent. It is still January 19th. Current location and time, Resort Area, 7:03 P.M. [Full name redacted] and [full name redacted] are both in present company, as well as the still unnamed member of a ‘Team Galactic.’”

“Hello,” Nox and Garnet say in unison.

“No need to sound so official,” the Galactic grunt snaps, though she sounds far more resigned than she had in the previous recording.

“It’s just for legal purposes,” Cynthia clarifies. “Don’t worry about it, you have much more pressing problems right now.”

“Whatever.”

Cynthia seems to ignore her and starts the interrogation straight away. “Name and pronouns, please.”

“You’re not getting my name. She/they, though.”

“We’ll need your name so we can address you.”

“...Call me Meteor, then.”

Cynthia lets out a long sigh. “That’s fine. Current occupation?”

“You know I’m a member of Team Galactic.”

“Do you have any other commitments.”

“...No.”

“Alright. Oh, and, by the way, I’d advise you don’t lie for the duration of this interrogation,” Cynthia says, and the telltale growl of a Pokemon punctuates that statement. 

“I swear to Arceus I’m not lying.”

“I’m not saying you are. I’m just saying Stonedrake here has proven to be quite accurate in detecting if you are.”

“...I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Good.” There’s a slight pause. “Recording still going?”

“Yep,” Nox says.

“Thank you. Meteor, why did you join Team Galactic?”

“They pay better than what was open to me. And they don’t treat me like shit.”

“What is the purpose of Team Galactic?”

“Can’t tell you.”

“What is the purpose of Team Galactic?”

“Not fucking telling you.”

“Is that so?” There’s another growl from the background, this time a bit louder.

“You’re not gonna sic that thing on me,” Meteor scoffs. “You’ve got an image to uphold.”

“Perhaps so,” Cynthia hums. “However…”

Whatever she does, it seems to shake Meteor thoroughly. 

“Fuckin…fine. We’re making a better world. Better than this one. This horrible, horrible thing that’s our status quo? We’re changing it, and it’s going to be better. For people like me, who don’t have the status and wealth you do,” she spits. “We’re going to make everything better.”

There’s a beat of silence. Then Cynthia inhales deeply, and asks, “Would this goal have any relation to why you attacked Professor [full name redacted] for her research?”

“Now that’s something I really can’t tell you.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know. Genuinely I just got sent out to do it so I did.”

“Did you not question being sent to steal research papers, of all things?”

“I’m not about to question the people who gave me a better life.”

“Alright then,” Cynthia mutters, audibly getting frustrated. She’s trying to hide it, you can tell, but the annoyance is starting to slip through. “Do you know, maybe, why Team Galactic wanted those research papers?”

“Couldn’t tell you. Not much of a scholar.” 

“Then would you happen to know the location of one of the higher ups who would know?”

There’s a sharp inhale from Meteor. “No.”

“That was a lie,” Cynthia observes calmly.

“Well, I can’t just tell you,” Meteor says, her voice starting to pitch upwards. “That’s— that’s sensitive information—”

“And it’s exactly why I’m asking.”

“I’m not—” 

“Hey, shouldn’t we lay off her a little?” Nox interjects. “Like I know Team Galactic is. Serious. But. She just works for them, and she’s still a person, we shouldn’t pressure her like this—” 

“Yeah!” Meteor says desperately. “Listen to the kid, I can’t just. I can’t just tell you—”

“Why not?” Cynthia asks, this time sounding more genuine than coldly inquisitive.

“They’d kick me out, I dunno, I’d lose it, I’d lose it all, and—”

“Hey, it’s okay,” Nox tries.

“Nox,” Garnet mutters, “don’t—”

“Deep breaths?” Nox continues. “Champion Shirona, respectfully, we’re not getting anywhere with the intimidation tactic. I know you probably deal with evil teams all the time by intimidating them. You’re. Really good at that. But she’s still a person and maybe we should give her a break, at least. Some water and food. I don’t think she’s eaten the whole time we’ve had custody of her.”

“...Okay you didn’t have to baby me,” Meteor protests, obviously trying to calm herself down. 

Cynthia’s silent for a bit, then finally she says. “Right. Yes. Sorry. I got…caught up in the heat of the moment. Sorry, truly. I’ll get some…water? Tea? Coffee?”

“...Coffee would be nice,” Meteor mumbles.

“And you two?” 

“I’m good,” Garnet and Nox respond in unison.

There’s a fading click-clack of heels as Cynthia walks out of the room.

Silence, for a bit, then muffled whispering in the background.

Garnet, immediately suspicious, starts, “What are you—”

“FURY SWIPES,” Meteor screams, and a Glameow screeches in affirmation. 

There’s a violent, chaotic tumbling-crackling noise and distantly you can hear Cynthia running back into the room, shouting something. Garnet curses loudly. The audio turns to loud static. ]

(random munday update: was just playing a ranked match of pokemon tcg on the live client and my opponent drew, like, 15 cards in one turn. it was nuts. they got absolutely lost in the draw power sauce and must have picked up half of their deck. and then, they finally passed the turn to me with confidence.

and then I instantly slapped down my good buddy 'Judge' and made the opponent shuffle their entire oversized hand back into the deck. they went from like, 20 cards in hand...down to 4. there was a long pause, and then an instant surrender from their side.

there's a valuable lesson about greed here, somewhere. or there's no point at all--I just had to share this because I'm still laughing about the largest Judge clapback in history: he really said put those cards back. it was glorious.)

Pokemon Card of the Day #2960: Feraligatr (Dragon Majesty)

The Dragon Majesty print of Feraligatr was an update to a legendary card, the Feraligatr from Neo Genesis that won all sorts of tournaments when it was first released. The updates this time included almost doubling its damage since HP numbers were much higher in 2018 and lowering the amount of Energy needed to use the attack. One thing the old Feraligatr took advantage of was the lack of draw power that was usable by other decks, while being able to recycle cards itself and take advantage of things like Misty's Wrath. Feraligatr wasn't going to have the Trainer advantage here and had a lot of strong, fast Pokemon to deal with. The concept was very much intact, but there was context to consider too.

160 HP was a pretty good number for a Stage 2, being in that spot that even the later Tag Teams weren't all guaranteed to just get the KO. A Grass Weakness was one of the better ones to have simply because that type wasn't very good at the time. The Retreat Cost was 3, however, so you were likely going to swing away with a Feraligatr until it fell since fitting a bunch of switching cards alongside all the support Feraligatr needed was really hard to do.

Downpour set up for the big attack by letting you discard a Water Energy from your hand as often as you wanted during your turn. This was simply to power up Riptide and nothing else, and the goal was to discard as many as you could after covering Feraligatr's Energy cost. This was likely easiest in the SUM-On format by filling the Bench with Ribombee from Burning Shadows, as each could fetch 2 Energy per turn.

Riptide started at just 10 damage for 2 Water Energy, which was obviously not going to cut it. 20 more was added for each Water Energy in the discard pile, and that could add up quickly. The issue was generally that you needed the discarded Water Energy amount to hit double digits to take down Pokemon that gave up multiple Prizes, and using the attack shuffled all Water Energy in the discard pile back into your deck. That's why an absurd amount of Energy searching was required here, including the swarm of Ribombee.

The game around Feraligatr this time around was much faster and while the support was still good, so many other things had amazing support and could be more reliable than a 5-6 Pokemon set-up that the new version of Feraligatr was basically ignored. Anyone looking back at old cards and being interested in this one would probably be better off going and playing Rocket-On instead, where Feraligatr was a top tier threat. The reason to go back and play this instead would be to avoid baby flips, but Feraligatr was tough to build around in this era because of so many required cards and a high Energy count and consistency was simply an issue. It was cool to see this again for nostalgia though.

do you think you'll ever write a pokemon fanfic? somehow i think you would do a really good job if you were writing the lore for something like pokemon legends arceus plot

I've had some ideas for a pokemon fic.

I've thought about doing a novel/my own take on the games, do what the anime wasn't delivering for me, follow the protag through the region.

I thought of a what if elaborate shuffle up, rearrange characters, evil teams, legendaries, and starters and mix them up amongst the regions, like, Plasma being a knight theme, what if they was moved to Galar, where they still stand for the liberation of pokemon but in Galar where the sport became more important and explore a more grey area, where Plasma isn't entirely wrong but Rose wasn't THE big bad.

I've thought of possibly doing original regions to write out, take the chance to really focus on legendary/mythical pokemon that don't really get a chance to shine or explore other possible rivalries or dynamics, and exploring different types of starters.

Like, one region I thought of being full blown Halloween inspired, embrace the spooky and horror and the fun and the dark and brooding that comes with all the aesthetic. Possibly 13 gyms, may be easier to stick with 6 though, and while semi keeping to the 1 type, definitely would mix it up more to match with themes. First gym, town theme is pumpkins, so that gym leader mains with Pumpkaboo. 2nd or 3rd gym, Webbington, theme is spiders, so bug gym with double battle with all the spidermons. Another is vampire theme so they got bats. Another dealing with bones and graveyard aesthetic so bone related pokemon there. Possibly all ghost starters or ghost/dark/fighting, and for sure, Mimikyu would be the masccot for this region. If I did ever get this going, I'd have to get this released and updated throughout October.

I have also thought of exploring PMD, doing an original tale, though idk what story wise, but taking the chance to explore culture of sentient pokemon, having the chance to have more than one village and what relations could be like, and exploring common pokemon mythology and maybe their religions towards legendaries/mythicals. PMD worldbuilding wise could be so fascinating and I want more.

And for Legends, I had thought of a maybe thought where Dawn/Akari actually fell far into the wilderness and was instead found by the Pale Lord, Zoroark. But I haven't thought of too many other details for it.

So yeah I definitely have some ideas, I wouldn't mind doing some pokemon fanfics.

COMING SOON - ANIME UPDATE V3

“V3″ in this case stands for “Version 3″. I did the V1 series of posts from late 2019 to the end of 2021, then did the V2 posts in 2022 and 2023. Time for another shake-up, once more before the last time.

Vinland Saga S2 will continue with its second half, and once I'm done with it, and once I'm done with it, the newly revived Kimi ni Todoke will be taking its place, itself to be followed by Vision of Escaflowne once I'm done with it.

Hunter x Hunter will continue to the end this year, and once I'm finally done with it, Fullmetal Alchemist will be taking its place.

SHUFFLE! will be a new anime I start up, and along with it will soon come the 13 episode AIR. Jun Maeda's prototype for CLANNAD, Kanon, would be the most likely to take its place afterwards.

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works draws to a close, soon to be replaced by The Case Files Of Lord El Meloi II.

Konosuba will be taking over from Re:ZERO (talk about whiplash!), and once its done, its place will be taken by Black Cat.

Symphogear XV will finish off the Symphogear series, and once that's done, K-On!! will be taking its place.

Eureka Seven will continue through the year, and once I'm done with it, I'll finally look back to the Gundam franchise with Gundam Wing.

Gintama will be returning as well. with me finally getting closer towards the really good parts.

Other Milestones:

Shadows Alight finally beat out my 2011-2015 KH OC fic for longest wordcount on my ao3 :D I have been hoping something would eventually bump this down for years.

Started on the Shadows Alight arc I've been looking forward to writing since at least last year, if not longer. Really excited for this especially as the 10 year Cast a Shadow anniversary is less than two months away now.

Posted my first Xenoblade fic ever :)

With Mortal Coil Shuffle done I only have 8 wips on ao3 which is an all time low for me (ignore the fact that this doesnt count series wips shhhh)

Hey everyone! Decided to save my future self some work and get all of the future Round 1's up on the status website (which as of now is fully updated), if you'd like to go look at them! You can also roughly calculate when each Pokemon will post based on this list, if you're inclined to do the math.

(I figured out a non-queue way to shuffle them all up. It's a bit of extra work, but it also enables me to schedule posts instead of relying strictly on the queue. It should allow me to build up a more reliable backlog.)

As is the normal schedule, Gen 2 Round 1 rematches will start posting tomorrow as the Round 1 polls close.

after ~23 years, my baby Blastoise and first ever partner from my old Blue cartridge is safe and sound in Bank!! ヾ(*´∀｀*)ﾉ

spent the past two days after work painstakingly cloning my cartridge battery saves with a Joey Jr. device, recreating all of my Blue and Yellow pokemon in a gen3 Emerald rom, and then swapping back and forth between ROMs and official cartridges and DSes to transfer them up into Bank-- it was honestly much easier than I thought it would be and really scratched that kinda brain-itch for a solvable but systematic project, like "if X doesn't work then I'll do Y, and if not then I'll do Z, and if none of that works then we'll start again and try Xa or Xb" hahaha

unfortunately my Gold cartridges' battery died years ago and my copy of Crystal vanished one day long ago so I can't recover any of my gen2 team, but this was a resounding success for a first attempt! in the end I only have 5 pokemon left over that didn't pass through the legality check (three had obsolete characters in their name that I did change in PKXDelta, but I guess there's still something wiggy about them-- the other two were those in-game starter trades from Yellow that I tried something different with, weirdly it let the Charmeleon through fine though?? who knows)... but as ohana means family, I'm gonna spend the rest of today sorting out their issues so they don't get left behind :'D

aaaaand then to shuffle them all down into my living dex on SUMO and make a backup of the cartridge saves, so I have an offline backup in-case Bank magically shuts down before I can bite the bullet and shift them to Home...

Eras of a Franchise:

1996 - 1998: Generation I (1998 - 1999 US) - Pokemon: Red/Green is released in Japan early in 1996, and proves successful enough that an updated version, Blue, gets released by the end of the year alongside the first set of a Trading Card Game. In 1997, the anime adaptation begins airing and several manga series such as Pokemon Adventures begin serialization. In 1998, another updated version of the game based on the anime, Yellow, was released in Japan while the franchise finally made its way to the US with Red/Blue, which were actually the Japanese Red/Green remade with the Japanese Blue’s engine. The TCG, anime, manga and Yellow followed suit in both that year and the following year of 1999.

1999: Gen II Adjacent (2000 US) - Generation II ended up taking longer to develop than expected, and so we got a strange year (1999 in Japan, 2000 in the US) that wasn’t quite Gen I but wasn’t Gen II either.  It was a good time for spin-off games though, as we saw the releases of Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Puzzle League and Puzzle Challenge, and the Pokemon franchise’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros.

2000 - 2002: Generation II (2001 - 2003 US) - Mainline games of Gen II were Gold/Silver, released at the very end of 1999 in Japan and late 2000 in the US, and Crystal, an updated version released in 2000 in Japan and 2001 in the US. Spin-off games curiously dried up almost completely at this point, with Pokemon Stadium 2 being essentially the only one.

2003 - 2006: Generation III (2004 - 2007 US) - Mainline games of Gen III were Ruby/Sapphire, released at the very end of 2002 in Japan and early 2003 in the US, Gen I remakes FireRed/LeafGreen released across the world in 2004, and Emerald, an updated version of Ruby/Sapphire released in 2004 in Japan and 2005 in the US. Spin-off games returned with a vengeance, including Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire, Pokemon Box RS, Pokemon Dash, Pokemon Trozei, Pokemon Channel, Pokemon Ranger, and the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games.

2006 - 2010: Generation IV (2007 - 2010 US) - Mainline games of Gen IV were Diamond/Pearl, released late 2006 in Japan and early 2007 in the US, Platinum, an updated version released in late 2008 in Japan and early 2009 in the US, and Gen II remakes HeartGold/SoulSilver released in late 2009 in Japan and early 2010 in the US. Spin-off games, as plentiful here as in Gen III, included Pokemon Battle Revolution, Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, My Pokemon Ranch, Pokepark Wii, and Pokemon Rumble.

2010 - 2013: Generation V (2011 - 2013 US) - Mainline games of Gen V were Black/White, released late 2010 in Japan and early 2011 in the US, and sequels Black 2/White 2, released across the world in 2012. Spin-off games were less prevalent during this gen than the previous two and included Pokemon Conquest, Pokepark 2, Pokemon Rumble Blast and Rumble U, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and Pokemon Dream Radar.

2013 - 2016: Generation VI - Starting with this gen, the mainline games began to launch worldwide simultaneously. They include X/Y in 2013 and Gen III remakes Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire in 2014 (a Z duology of X/Y updated versions was planned to be developed and released in 2015, but was scrapped). Spin-off games include Camp Pokemon, Pokemon Battle Trozei, Pokemon Shuffle, Pokemon Rumble World, Pokken Tournament, Pokemon Picross, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Detective Pikachu, and of course Pokemon GO, which actually brought Gen I level mainstream attention to the franchise again.

2016 - 2019: Generation VII - Mainline games of Gen VII were Sun/Moon in 2016, updated versions Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon in 2017, and new Gen I remakes Let’s GO! Pikachu/Eevee in 2018. Spin-off games include Pokken Tournament DX, Pokemon Talk, Pokemon Quest, Pokemon Rumble Rush, and Pokemon Masters, later upgraded as Pokemon Masters EX.

2019 - 2022: Generation VIII - Mainline games of Gen VIII were Sword/Shield in 2019 which underwent DLC expansions in 2020, Gen IV remakes Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl in 2021, and Legends: Arceus in 2022. Spin-off games included Pokemon Cafe, New Pokemon Snap, Pokemon UNITE, and a 3D remake of the original Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games.
