We are now some 2.5 months away from the 10th anniversary for the airing of the Strongest Mega Evolution Act I. I am excited!

1) How to participate?

Pick the prompt that you like best for each day of the week, create a fanwork for it and post it on tumblr, tagging #tsmeweek2024 or #tsme10thanniversary! You can also pick several prompts for one day to combine, or mix prompts from different days, as you wish. You can switch days up as well! Go wild! All forms of fanworks are accepted! Fanarts, crafts, fanfic of any lengths, cosplays... Pick the medium you prefer! Prompts can be interpreted however you want. If you pick "Miare" and want to depict an alternate ending for the Flare Crisis where everyone dies, go for it! Creativity is welcomed! Does "Break" mean "mental breakdown", "take a coffee break" or "break.....fast"? Up to you! Don't worry about having to participate every day of the week. Just do what you can! 2) Does PokéAni XY&Z count? What counts as TSME?

The rules are lax. The XY&Z season of PokéAni definitely counts, as TSME characters played a very important role in it. So does the World Championships in Journeys, since Alan appeared in it. As a basic principle, so long as it involves a character that appeared in Act I-IV of TSME, it counts as TSME. So yes, you can absolutely create a fanwork about Daigo/Steven exploring Hoenn with Shouta/Sawyer, or Pachira/Malva dating Carnet/Diantha if your heart desires. You can also create fanworks with TSME characters and characters they never interacted with in canon!

3) Other rules

This blog will have ship art and will accept any ship. Do not harrass people over ships. Racy pieces or pieces with content warnings will be accepted on the blog and tagged with a "n/sfw" tag and "cw" tag. For viewers who do not want to risk seeing any such pieces, you can block these 2 tags. As an artist with a n/sfw or cw piece, please help making the blog friendly for all, by putting the full art under a preview and read-for-more. Please tag the full cw as well!

Back during the Pokeani XY era, when they were teasing that Noibat and Eevee that would eventually join the gang, I hoped that Eevee would go to Ash

Because I was and still am bias to Sylveon, since obviously that’s what that eevee was going to evolve into.

It wasn’t surprising that Serena got the Eevee and eventual Sylveon, but I can dream.

Ash getting that Eevee while Serena in turn gets the Noibat would’ve not only subverted expectations in a pleasantly surprisingly way but also give Ash a “girly” Pokemon in the eventual Sylveon

It would’ve given Ash’s Kalos team some much needed (and still desperately needed) type diversity, and a Pokemon with a different fighting style to Ash’s usual like Goodra.

Goodra and Sylveon are similar in that sense, both relatively bulky Pokemon, but while Goodra is slower due to size, Sylveon is a bit more nimble and small. Not as fast as Pikachu or Greninja, but still nimble enough.

Ash could’ve done what he did back in Sinnoh and took inspiration from Serena’s performances to learn how to fight with Sylveon, adding a sort of elegant dancer’s edge to fighting with Sylveon to make maneuvers and combat interesting and just Ash’s style

Another post on how the original plan that Atsuhiro Tomioka and the writers had for Best Wishes’ Myth Arc can be gleamed by what ended up happening in XY, both when and how.

Ghetsis, the intended co-Big Bad alongside Giovanni in Best Wishes, was slated to debut in BW024, which was the direct follow-up to the events of BW022 and BW023. And when did Lysandre, the Big Bad in XY, debut? The first The Strongest Mega Evolution special, which aired before XY022. The second of these specials aired between XY049 and XY050, the third between XY064 and XY065, and the fourth at the end of XY’s second year when the episode count had entered the 90s. So what’s the correlation to those points of time in Best Wishes?

BW049 and BW050 was Team Rocket’s mission to hijack the Nimbasa City Subway to pull off a massive Pokemon theft operation, which included Dr. Zager returning to Unova after having left in BW024. If the original plan was in effect, there almost certainly would have been mention of Team Plasma here, since Team Rocket was to be primarily motivated in increasing their offensive power to stand against them. BW064 was the start of a storyline continued in BW065 and BW066, which introduced Cedric Juniper and the Golden Dark Stone in the Black Hero’s Ruins (so if the original plan was in effect Team Plasma would show up here and attempt to claim the Golden Dark Stone for N, failing and needing to settle for the Light Stone later on), and also brought back the Sunglasses Krokorok after his previous showing back in BW023. Incidentally, this was also preceded by Team Rocket’s attempt to claim the Forces of Nature, and the end of the show’s second year when the episode count entered the 90s was all about their second attempt at it, which included Giovanni returning to Unova after having left in BW024. Again, defeating Team Plasma would have been cited as a factor behind these attempts if the original plan was in effect, rather than simply conquering Unova.

However, as it stands, Team Plasma lost out with the change of plans. They couldn’t even end up dominating the third and final year of Best Wishes (aka Episode N) the way Team Flare did the third and final year of XY (aka XY&Z), since Junichi Masuda’s swell-headed ambitions for Gen VI meant that Episode N wound up just being 14 episodes sandwiched between the last of 11 of vanilla Season 2 and the 20 (+2 specials) of Decolore Adventures.

I love you, Lysandre, but I’ll always be kind of bitter your gain was through Ghetsis’ loss.

WHAT AN AMAZING RUN!!!!

We've come to the end of the week across the globe and it's been such a blast seeing the creativity and enthusiasm that this tiny and beautiful fandom is capable of! So much wondrous imagination skilfully brought to life, and so much love given to this series 10 years after it aired! What a way to celebrate it's 10th year anniversary.

It's definitely made me emotional to see so many new fanworks throughout this event, with so much self-expression and creative exploration of ideas, headcanons, designs, stories... The TSME fandom has always been one where fans get to take the series, say "what if?" and create something new from it, and I think it's beautiful. A warm thank you to everyone who participated, whether by creating or by cheering on the side!

If you couldn't find the time or energy to participate but wanted to, don't worry. If you would like to create and post something now, please do! I will still be scouring the #tsmeweek2024 and #tsme10thanniversary tags until around May, at a much slower pace, and will continue to reblog any new works to this blog.

Making sense of Pokeani’s Serena

(Because I don’t understand the hate for really any Pokeani Girl outside of complaining about the writing)

A while while back, I started thinking about Serena and her motivation for travelling.

Many see it as her crush on Ash being her reason, but I see it as Serena wanting to get away from the Rhyhorn Race training.

Ash was the sort of excuse and a temporary motivation for her to go out of her home town and finally go on a journey.

As far as we know, Serena doesn’t have any friends and her days were spent Rhyhorn Race training. It makes sense, with that in mind, that she would go out of her way to try and reconnect with the closest person she had to a friend.

Serena is fickle in her pursuing her interests and goals, mainly when they get difficult (mood) and failure seems terrifying (also mood). It makes sense why she stuck with her mother and training until she found a reason to go out into the unknown, because Serena wanted a friend.

To me, now after thinking, Serena left home because of Ash. But not because of her crush on him, but rather because she wanted to get away from training and to meet up with the only person that she considered to be a potential friend.

Her reaction to her crush was played for comedy for the most part but also for moments in regards to her character development. Ash is not her reason, but rather someone she knows who will cheer her on when things get tough, when things get scary.

With that in mind, it reframes her confronting him in the forest outside of Snowbell. Because Ash has been the one she looks to and almost looks up to as a form of motivation. Not as a prize but as a friend and because of his own boundless determination and personality is infectious.
