Some Updates + Question for You!

Hello, my beautiful creatures! I hope you are all doing fine!

Updating you on a few things! Question is the last topic, so if you're in a mood to indulge me, feel free to skip to the last one!

Vergil's Halloween Special: Yeah, still haven't finished, but haven't forgotten it either. I'm navigating serious family emergencies the last couple of months, so my long writing has slowed down. But my dear friend Fury has written some parts of Vergil's Halloween Special, and I'm getting back at it! It's slow, but it'll be here maybe for this year's Halloween :')

Fury also helps me with my Ao3 and because of a recent AI scraping incident (may all AI bros choke on a fish bone, as my mom usually curses), we locked all my works - so, currently, you can only read them there with an account! Just in case you guys think it suddenly disappeared xD

I've been working on a non-writing related post that, honestly, I've been struggling a lot. I've made some posts before about some life situations and offering you guys advice to avoid putting yourself in danger, but I'm having a hard time with this one, so...

I might post some Cyberpunk 2077 work here in the future. It's related to what I'm trying to talk about and I can't really find a way to word it decently. I literally use that game as therapy and it has fundamentally changed me, so I think I'm gonna be more comfortable writing about heavier stuff in Night City. I need to process some stuff and I might be able to do it with Cyberpunk. Just a heads up if I start posting heavier stuff here every now and then (you're all more than welcome to not read it if it's not your thing, don't worry ^^)

This year, I've been hell bent in finishing one of my original stories and I do want to turn it into a book eventually. Also...

Sometimes I get people asking me for writing advice or just generally how I work on things!

I thought I can tackle two things at once by creating an Youtube channel! But I don't want to make those preachy "Do's and Don't's" that people usually do, I want to mostly just chat and help people find their love for writing and find their style. Also, I'll never publish anything if I live under a rock and no one knows me, so I thought it'd be a nice platform without selling my soul to the algorithm, plastic mass produced content slop we're used to nowadays.

My question is: what would you guys like to see there? What would you like to know about my writing, writing process or just writing in general? Like I said, I don't wanna do the trending stuff, I really wanna do something genuine and have a talk/connect to people. So, I thought about asking you!

Feel free to answer me through the comments here or, if you're too shy, anon asks! It'll all be very helpful!

Also, do tell me if you'd like to see my silly face, or if it'd be ok if I kept some of my dignity and not show up HAHAHAHAHA I'm leaning to the second one

there don’t happen to be fish within the Polaris system that you’re aware of, are there?

As far as I am aware, there aren’t even planets orbiting any of the three stars that are part of Polaris. It is however, a part of the constellation Ursa Minor, or Little Bear, and was often used as a marker while sailing.

However, I don’t think it counts for fish detection purposes, unfortunately!

I saw your post explaining about Polaris and his two colored tail feathers, and you used the word "sword" to describe one. It then hit me that the different types of feathers have different names?! I am gobsmacked! Could you educate me more on the terminology on them??

Lol You would definitely do better just doing a web search for "kinds of feathers" because there are SO MANY different kinds. But I can tell you about some of the cool ones peafowl have!

Their head crest feathers are actually called filoplumes- a thin shaft with a tuft at the end.

Their train is made of tail coverts! The longest ones that end in a Y shape with no eye are called frame feathers, then there are the eye feathers, and then there are the sword feathers

Sword feathers can actually have eyes on them, as well, since they are modified eye feathers. They frame the bottom of the fan when the bird displays, to give the bird a solid bottom frame. These feathers are actually the most important feathers peacocks have; they are the feathers peahens inspect most closely to decide if a male is worthy of being a mate.

Most feathers have vanes made of barbs, but peafowl tail coverts do not! The feathery bits down the shafts of their eye feathers are called hurls instead.

Birds have little teeny feathers that cover their ear canals. These feathers are calls auriculars!

The area over their "shoulders" (between their wings on the back) is called the "saddle" and it is covered in contour feathers called "scales" in peafowl. I assume you can guess why. When we say "scale feathers" it means these ones!

The scales actually are like proto-eye-feathers, and they slowly fade into eye feathers down the rump

and the last cool feather kind I'll mention is the alulae feathers! These are feathers attached to the bird's alulae, the little "thumbs" of their wings. Peafowl have nice big ones and they're not afraid to use them.

Spoilers.

I've seen a lot of people assume this is the Polaris face reveal, but I think it's a new character.

The only similarity with Polaris is the hood, which has a design unlike the ones we've seen Undertaker's minions wear, and the nose and lips, which are the default manga features Toboso draws for all of her conventionally attractive (i.e. without distinct/unique features), relatively young adult characters.

Polaris doesn't have the neck tattoo (assuming that's not a high collar with a design), long canines, light-colored eyes (although Toboso does sometimes color darker eyes white to show emotion), or the same chin.

They do both wear gloves, but the new character could be hiding anything under there (demon nails, more tattoos, a contract mark).

I've also seen people assuming the gender of this individual, and while I immediately thought they looked more like how Toboso draws her more masculine women, I don't think we can conclusively say whether they're a man or woman at this point. I also can't think of a hypothesis as to their identity that would be affected by what gender they are.

My immediate thought when I saw the teeth was "demon." However, we've seen humans with unique teeth (Joker and Snake), so it might just be a human. And I feel like with this level of emotion, a demon's pupils would have gone slitted. They also address Sebastian as 'demon,' which I feel would sound strange coming from another demon (unless that's how demons address eachother? Maybe they don't have names or keep them to themselves).

The infusion stand is clearly there to make us think this is a bizarre doll, but the dolls usually have black veins standing out when they need blood. This person is pale, sweaty, and has bulging veins, but the veins aren't black.

If this person is a bizarre doll, perhaps they are one of Sebastion's previous contractors. I've seen people on Twitter speculating that Undertaker revived this person in order to somehow break the contract between Ciel and Sebastian.

If it's not a contractor, the only other reason I can think of for Undertaker to revive someone from Sebastian's past would be if it would throw him off emotionally. However, from the way Sebastian acts about humans, I was under the impression that he hadn't gotten emotionally involved with humans or been around any particular ones very long in the past.

This could also not be a bizarre doll and the transfusion is a regular transfusion, like the rich benefactors were receiving.

Unrelated, but I think this confirms something that's been in my thoughts for a while: Sebastian either can't choose his appearance as a human or has a default appearance that he didn't modify when he was summoned. I thought it might be possible because when he offered to change his appearance in the beginning, he only changed his clothes, and when Francis insulted his face, he implied it was a permanent feature.

This new character seems to know him pre-contract and recognized him by sight. Unless someone told them what Sebastian looks like now and who he is traveling with, this would imply his appearance isn't changed every contract.

Other things in the chapter that stood out to me:

"I suppose you'd prefer to be called 'mister' to 'earl' at the present." Barnabus says this after calling him "Earl Ciel Phantomhive." The straightforward explanation of this line is that Barnabus is saying this because o!Ciel isn't actually the earl anymore, but he's also not actually Ciel anymore, either. Why didn't he mention that, too?

Barnabus emphasizes a lot of words. Hotel staff are "experts" at provided "services" specialized to their guests (bizarre dolls?). "Guests of any kind are welcome here." Is he mocking them because he knows they're investigating the blood business? Mocking would also explain him emphasizing their "arduous, lengthy" journey (because they're on the run). Less likely, but I believe still possible, is that he thinks o!Ciel is r!Ciel.

I wonder who will smash that giant skylight.

What is the significance of Hall (the bellboy) looking at Ciel's shiny shoes and cane? Wondering where he got the funds for new accessories while on the run?

"Servants will be relieved of their duties." Feels like foreshadowing.

she has something of a cult following in computer science circles. so she still has a bit of an ego

is mildly paranoid about being found out by one of her former siblings for vengeance reasons. because of that she doesn't like getting close to people

^^ isn't necessarily 'friendly' because of this but still likes showing off

chihiro's father is a major software developer, but chihiro was the one who helped him maintain his company and grow it into a super big tech giant. is expected by everyone around him to inherit it and grow it even more

he acts more friendly compared to canon byakuya, mostly because he knows how to use his appearance to manipulate people

is also used to being manipulated in turn, so any attempts to get close to him get totally shut down

i think they'd see themselves in each other and not know how to deal with that

Like, he just takes things and doesn’t care if they belong to someone? He essentially threw the bunny that helped him under the bus as well and giving away a present because he couldn’t grasp a sense of personal value for more than a couple of seconds.

Is he unable to understand the general concept of… belonging?
