Another recent single. As the title suggests, I absolutely demolished 3 pints of stout before making this which, unlike THC, actually had a very positive effect in the creative process. This is also the first time I make use of multitracking on my multitrack recorder lmao. I swear I've done more multitracking on Audacity (through a shitty behringer usb mixer) and my sampler (at 32khz quality) than I've multitracked on the literal machine dedicated to recording, mixing and mastering like 24 fuckin tracks at once at 44.1khz/16-bit CD quality. I use CD btw, har har. I'm so old school.

Listening Center - Now, Beyond The Dream
Now, Beyond The Dream is the third album by Listening Center in the SX-70 CD-R series by Temporary Tapes. It represents the end of a phase of open ended exploration of modular and polysynth improvisations recorded around 2020. Elements of arabesque and isorhythm have again been widely employed to create a cyclical and disembodied feeling. In "New Riddles", a modular sequence is tape looped over and over itself, creating a pulsing, protozoan echo. No matter how much narrative or abstraction is projected onto the work after the fact, it always contains a diaristic element of some kind—it can often be a response to or processing of physical or mental events of the time. Again, the idea of "a dream of sound" (Southam). Sometimes it seems appropriate to use another approach. The well-trodden paths that have served us well now seem to lead nowhere. Less familiar paths can still lead home. Recorded NY, 2020 David Mason - Modular and Polyphonic Synthesizers, Tape Loops.

Here is another one of the pics of me from the last week that I enjoy. Was recording synthesizers thru this 4 track tape recorder. Not even dubbing to the tape that much, the mixer itself has a nice kinda rough around the edges lofi to it on its own. Really nice.
One layer in the tune we were recording has a polysynth going into it + the pictured behringer 2600 running an arpeggio going into it as well that i was panning around live as we played it in. The channel the 2600 is on has a bit of a crackle to it as you play with the pan knob and it adds a really great lofi quality to the recording.
Also fun, I made that "this is a pedalboard" post bc I was having some fun w/ my guitar + this setup and recorded out some things w/ that too. Simplest silly tone here is simply that running a guitar into that tape recorder then just cranking every possible gain results in a gnarly distortion. Extra fun is running it into the preamp on the 2600, cranking that to the maximum, then running that out into the cranked 4 track. Now it's super fuckin gnarly. But then! Run the env follower from the 2600 into the filter control and run the guitar signal into the ring mod against osc2 and then send the ring mod bank into the filter, dial RM to taste, send it all out into the 4 track and damn now you've got this absolutely destroyed partially ring modded auto wah tone and it's fucking sick. + you can bring in oscillator 1 and 3 as drones! And bring up the reverb!!!! It's awesome.
Legit such a sick tone and there are no pedals present lol. Doesn't stop me from wanting a delay pedal tho :3 love fuckin with wacky delays. I've got a friend who has an actual tape delay and it's so fucking cool. Anyways I'm rambling,
I had a lot of fun tracking all this stuff. And I'm excited to work on it more in the future! I like music. Also it does not come off in this post but I am primarily this band's drummer lol.

“It's exactly the thing you're thinking of when you think "I want to hear really killer polysynths and tape delay”.”
Has anyone ever thought that though?
