Note: This was produced completely by accident with a faulty photocopier at the college where I work. The machinery picked out points of colour in the apparently uniform black text and somehow converted them into this rather pleasing pattern of abstract stripes. The fact that the source article is a review of a show by Grayson Perry, a visual artist, is a further happy coincidence.

Find the grid workshop task

After looking various different magazines that I'd like I scanned various pages of 3 magazines that I really liked, drew their grids with coloured pencil and marked pointers as to what is happening and analysing the compositional value of it. Popshot Quaterly- The Heart Issue issue 39- spring 2023 was an interesting illustrative magazine using left align in center of book for poems- exaggerated top margins and left alligned in between text left side pull quote. The second magazine was domus- Questions of perception/ Questioni di percezione 1076 february 2023 an architectural magazine having 4 column grid, very thin margins and gutters lining with the page accurately and usage of grid in respect to images and text division of looking compositional. I also found Vogue Fendi Printed in Japan by Toppan printing Feb 2023 No.282 printed in japanese and thus I could see how editorials work in a different language and script as it could be written top to bottom or left to right. I noticed they used a 5 column grid and kept bigger images to fit in and played with various possibilities and had half smaller pages and extended pages in the magazine.
