Popsugar Reading Challenge 2021
Tumblr media

One of my #newyearresolutions for 2021 is to read a greater variety of books! My first choice is Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield. It satisfied a few of the #popsugarreadingchallenge2021 prompts! -It’s a hybrid of #magicalrealism and #historicalfiction - I picked it at random, and it’s the longest book in my TBR. Definitely not my usual reading fare, but I’m enjoying it so far! #onceuponariver #dianesetterfield https://www.instagram.com/p/CJhDgwPglpY/?igshid=1uxofri8gukrp

{#bookreview}🔹Six of Crows🔹Grishaverse #4🔹Leigh Bardugo🔹2015🔹491 p. 🔹YA-Fantasy🔹🏆🏆
💭Opinion:
Six of Crows is one of these books that I had started years before and never finished it. But I was so wrong because it's a marvelous story!! Despite being set in the same Grisha universe as other books of Leigh Bardugo, it's much darker and more adult. The plot is essential about an action-packed, fast-paced heist. Six main characters with different perspectives and backgrounds, who must work together and complete an impossible ffeat But all the characters have their own personal agendas and secrets. These characters are thieves, convicts and runaways. Street gangs that are competing for territory and power. They have to break into one heavily-guarded prison, and smuggle a convict, who will help them to break into the Ice Court-a place that has never been breached. The story is a wonderful blend of darkness, magic, action, humour and romance. The world-building is complex and detailed but it is seamlessly integrated into the story. The flashbacks to the characters' histories give depth to their personalities and the third person narrative helps for everything to move naturally. All these darkness that exists in the real world, the author has infused it with the supernatural and the result is a masterpiece!
✨This beautiful wooden bookmark and the ketterdam candle were the perfect company for my reading!

The Threat Below🔹J. S. Latshaq🔹2015🔹544p. 🔹YA-Fantasy🔹4⭐/5
🧶Synopsis:
Three hundred years ago, something terrifying arose and pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. Now, a small remnant – the descendants of the few survivors who were able to escape the massacre below – lives above the clouds, on the top of a Mountain. When they discover that their water supply is being poisoned Down Below, an expedition, including seventeen year-old girl Icelyn Brathius, must descend and face the monsters, the Threat Below, that wiped out civilization centuries ago.
💭Opinion:
Firstly, I want to thank @jasonsethlatshaw
for sending me a copy of this book to read and review!
I'm a big fan of dystopian stories so I knew that I would love this story! The world building in this book was fantastic, with not one but two different worlds up the mountain and below the mountain contradict with each other! The first part of the book had a slower pace but this changed quickly and it was full of twists and turns that you will never see them come. The development of Icelyn's character was the most significant and I want to see how she will face the future threats!
I've never read a similar story with this, and I'm very excited to read book 2 and learn what future holds for our heroes!

{#bookreview}🔹Ghost Wood Sing🔹Erica Waters 🔹2020🔹368 p. 🔹YA, Paranormal-Mystery🔹🏅 🧶Synopsis: If I could have a fiddle made of Daddy’s bones, I’d play it. I’d learn all the secrets he kept. Shady Grove inherited her father’s ability to call ghosts from the grave with his fiddle, but she also knows the fiddle’s tunes bring nothing but trouble and darkness. But when her brother is accused of murder, she can’t let the dead keep their secrets. In order to clear his name, she’s going to have to make those ghosts sing. 💭Opinion: Waters' debut novel, is a dark story full of mystery and ghosts that will haunt you to finish it and want more of this author!! This story covers so many subjects like, abusive households, grief and sexual identity, drug/alcohol/mental abuse, that are important to be mentioned in our days. Besides the spooky atmosphere, and everything that happens, the story isn't distressful, on the contrary the pace moves quickly with new leads and the main character trying to balance between her family and friends, and trying to find love. I loved the writing style of Erica Waters and surely I will read her next books!! ✨A-Z Challenge, book starting from G #magicalrealism #paranormal #ghostwoodsong #ericawaters #yabooks #fantasyfictionbooks #bookstagram #booklover #books #bookphotigraphy #blackandgold #newpost #booklovers #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks #booksoninstagram #bookobsessed #bookblogger #booklove #bookaddict #bookblog #reading #bookishlife #bookcommunity #instabook #tbr #readingchallenge2021 #popsugarreadingchallenge2021 https://www.instagram.com/p/CNj492urJtD/?igshid=1xbyuibkmg2u2
