I’m currently writing a Something Rotten College au here are some designs for Nick, Nigel, and Portia and some headcanons for them:
Nick- 23 (He/Him) he’s a very sleep deprived Senior. He tries his best to protect Bea and Nigel though he often puts their health before his own. He is the leader of their colleges theatre club (though it’s very empty atm). He’s engaged to Bea and plans to marry her once they both graduate.
Nigel- 20 (He/Him) He’s still quite naive and has a lot of child like wonder for the world of theatre/poetry. The co leader of the theatre club. He has Autism and his special interests include poetry and nature documentaries. He has a huge crush on Portia but because of her social status doesn’t feel confident enough to talk to her.
Portia- 19 (She/Her) She’s very quiet and keeps to herself often. She doesn’t have many friends as most people are fearful of her father and her status as the daughter of their schools priest. She keeps a lot of books in her dorm and enjoys reading plays and poetry. Portia’s always wanted to join the theatre club but can’t due to her father’s demands.
That’s it’s for now but I’ll draw Bea, Will, and some of the other later

Portia: I don't know what to do!
Bea: Just tell him the truth really quickly.
Nigel: Or lie to him about it. Like Nick's play!
Nick: Wait, you didn't like my play?
Nigel:...No, that was a different Nick.
Nick: Oh! Okay!
Nick:
Nick: Cuz I was like, "whaaat?"

If I'm honest, I care more about Tabyana Ali and Brook Kerr (and Tanisha Harper!) dominating the red carpet with their looks than I do about any win (minus Sonya ❤️) during those hyperpolitical Daytime Emmys. The Robinson women (and Jordan) brought the glamor, and that's all that really matters.

I wrote a bunch of ~300 word drabbles based on that angst sentence post I reblogged earlier. Very fun for getting the creative juices flowing XPP
They’re all based on my ocs and different scenarios. TW for angst, self harm, child death, and murder
“So stupid of me to think you actually cared,” Portia spat the words out. “That you could love me when I’m not locked up, killing myself for your precious Songstresses.”
“Portia that’s not…” Lovel started to say, desperation breaking her voice.
"Not true? How can it not be, when you elect to treat me like so? To treat me as if I’m some child in need of constant direction or a frail flower that simply cannot comprehend the outside world.” She clenched her hands into fists. “You don’t love me, Lovel. You love the idea of me in your head. Someone in constant need of rescuing to make yourself feel better.”
Tears threatened to fall from her eyes. She wanted to scream at Portia that it simply wasn’t true. She did love her, despite everything she would always love her. She wanted to yell back that maybe it was Portia that didn’t love her. That she saw her as a way out, someone to command as all the priestesses did to those considered lower than them. But, she refused to voice such an idea. There would be no point in doing so now. Her feelings would simply be passed over as they always were.
She grasped at the sleeve of Portia’s dress. Just a touch of the cloth. Of anything. She would hold it on her knees, pleading into it if that would make her look at her. She would press her lips against the tips of Portia’s shoes if that would convince her of her love. Her fingers touched nothing. Portia pulled away, shaking her head. Behind the veil covering her eyes, her gaze certainly burned with hate.
“Do not touch me.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I should have known. I should have known all along. Icarus spat blood onto the theater floor. She’d bitten her tongue hard this time, enough to split the organ and coat her mouth till all she could taste was iron. Of course Albatross would do this to her. He’d leave her like he always did.
It’s nothing new, so why was it bothering her this time? She wiped at her lips, red smearing across the back of her hand. Already, heat filled her mouth, tongue healing. She wished it wouldn’t. At times like these, she hated her immortal body. No one ever took her seriously when she complained of pain. Her cuts healed in minutes and limbs regenerated after being lobbed off. Even when she flung herself off a building it was laughed off because that’s what Icarus does!
She couldn’t show she was hurt. Not really.
At least she thought Albatross took her seriously. When she was hurt, he rubbed at her back till she fully healed. If it was faster for her to die, well, she wouldn’t trust anyone else to kill her painlessly. He spouted off flowery nonsense of being partners, of being tied up by forces stronger than fate. He made her really believe that she was worth something when they were together.
Then he left. Like he did before. Again and again.
Icarus pulled at her hair, yanking red strands out in fistfuls. She screamed, the noise battering against the empty theater. She stamped her foot and scratched at her face and arms till pale skin became red. Blood spilled across the wood in furious lines. Still, she continued to tear at herself. At all the places he held her, she scratched and bit.
When would anyone ever take her pain seriously?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“You have to believe me. I didn't mean for this to happen,” The Spirit of the Strings cried. They scrambled across the floor, trying and failing to stand up. Their form flickered, ornate human body becoming a being of pure light, eye searing and dangerous, before settling to their most common form— the one the two first met in. Their voice rose, strained and high pitched, “I didn’t know they’d die! I didn’t… I didn’t want for them to die!”
Diane hardly heard them. She stared at the bodies, so many of them, all so young, and felt her heart plummet. In the end, she hadn’t been able to save them. She hadn’t been quick enough, smart enough to…
“I didn’t know humans died so easily. You have to believe me.”
Had they been aware they were dying? Did the children really understand that by falling asleep that final time at the Spirit’s bidding, that they wouldn’t wake up? Diane buried her head in her hand, trying miserably to shake the feeling away. She felt like throwing up. She felt like curling up and not moving. More than that, she felt such a deep sadness that it was her fault.
She was supposed to rescue them. Everyone trusted her to save them.
Behind her, the Spirit continued to babble. She failed to stand, instead crawling her way towards her. Hands grasped at her pant legs, tugging incessantly. When that failed to get a reaction, she tore at the hand still rested at her side, placing it into her own. Her bones cracked beneath the pressure
“Get away from me.” Diane yelled, hoarse. She yanked her hand away from the Spirit, backing away until her legs failed. She fell to the floor in a heap. “Stay away you murderer!”
Still, she screamed and begged for understanding. That she hadn’t meant for this to happen. That they never wanted to kill the kids.
Diane wished from the depths of their soul, that it had been the Spirit to die.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cardinal pressed a hand against the wound. It came back red. He blinked at the color, then at the wound in his abdomen. Red, blood he realized, seeped from beneath his jacket and over his side in a lazy pool.
He was dying. The thought struck him suddenly. Not violently. He was too tired for violence at this moment. It came, a gentle hand against his side to remind him that he too was mortal and would die. Lying back, Cardinal felt a gasp escape his throat, far too wet and red to be considered good.
He’d never felt afraid of red before. It was his color. The one he commanded to defend his people, his family. Yet, laid in the dirt, a coldness creeping along his body, seeping from beneath his skin to the very roots of his bones, he felt fear. He had no command over this red, his blood. It spilled across his fingers against his will.
“You are my biggest regret,” he managed to say. The words fell flat in the air. Dropped unceremoniously, uncaring to the one who’d struck the blow. Elise watched him, eyes dull.
"You’re mine too. So die faster, will you?”
No. I regret everything. I regret not teaching you better. For not being a better brother. For leaving you to rot in prison. I should have taken your place. I would have taken your place. I swear I would have, if only they would have let me. He didn’t have the strength to tell her. His head lolled to the side. Mud mixed with his blood filled his vision.
Red truly was an awful color. He hoped she never saw red again after he was gone.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’ve never been wanted. Not really. Not by anyone.” Alima struck a string on the guitar. It warbled, then died. She struck a different string. She didn’t mean to say it aloud. Those sorts of thoughts were not said aloud. Certainly not to Mal.
It must be something in the Earth air. Before, on the Blessed Isles, she wouldn’t have said such a personal thing. Physically, she would have been unable to. Alima was a device, something to merely control the weather for the personal enjoyment of those aboveground. She didn’t have emotions. Wasn’t supposed.
“As a person. The queen loved the devices for our utility. But, she never saw us more than that. A thing to control. I wasn’t meant to be a person… never was designed for such capabilities. So… I’ve never been wanted beyond the need for a sunny day,” Alima clarified. The guitar felt very heavy in her hands all of a sudden. She wanted to place it down, but instead her grip tightened on the neck. She was unable to feel the rough bite of the metal strings. She’d played string instruments for a couple thousand years at this point. Her finger pads were beyond calloused.
“Beyond all your magical capabilities, the thing I admire most about you is your ability to grow. Devices weren’t created to feel, but here you are, lamenting your past. Understanding how cruel the queen was- is to your family.” Mal placed one arm around her shoulders, tucking her into his side. He wasn’t much taller than her, yet in that moment he engulfed her entirely. “I want you Alima. I’m your brother now and I want you to know I will always be at your side.”
Warmth bloomed around her. She tucked her head further into his shoulder, eyes suspiciously wet. For what reason, she didn’t understand. Not yet, at least.

season 3 part one thoughts:
ok ok i did finish B S3 pt. I and it's GOOD and i was really happy with it but now that my pulse has gone back to normal i'm realizing i have a lot of nitpicks/concerns with the storytelling but ngl the carriage scene was fucking BONKERS and my mind will be in the gutter for the rest of the weekend
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!!! bc i have a ton of thoughts on season 3 so far and have to get them out:
THOUGHTS:::::
-i could not stop smiling. my face hurts still.
-i don't get people whining about colin and the threesome. when the brothel threesome scene was leaked people were losing their goddamn minds about colin not being a virgin on reddit. y'all. he spent a LONG time traveling solo around europe--did you really expect him not to experiment the entire time? the fixation on this was kinda weird i gotta say. also i really liked that in the second brothel instance it served as growth to show colin was realizing it wasn't those women he wanted to have sex with, but penelope.
it seems every bridgerton lad needs a whoring about subplot in their respective season and colin was obviously going to get one if his elder brothers did, so i wasn't surprised at all. i thought the scenes were hot, personally. overconfident and super flirty col galavanting everywhere suddenly being reduced to a pining, thirsty af insecure boy was so gratifying to watch and those scenes had a hand in showing us that.
-i hate portia's costumes this season. hate. hate. hate. she looks like she was ripped right out of DIsney's Descendants set from the costume rejects pile. woof. she was stunning in s1 but s2 were her best looks and now she looks awful. why???
-i think the mondriches are ok and i like them but their story did not need expanding here. i'm happy for them but that storyline was boring and time taken away from more important characters. i know this sounds harsh but this season was already packed with storylines. across these four episodes there was a severe lack of Lady Danbury. one of my favorite aspects of Romancing Mr. Bridgerton was her friendship/mentorship with Penelope. that instantly made her one of my favorite characters. why not keep that in the show??? i'm so disappointed but with part 2 yet unreleased maybe it will still come?
-speaking of lady danbury, something about the way her brother is presented and how she treats him makes me worry for Violet, that he might disappoint her later. idk it's just a vibe i get.
-Luke's acting is fucking incredible. all the microexpressions and the lingering stares and subtle movements. nicola is a great actor in her own right but fucking hell, every time Luke teared up on screen I was mirroring him.
the carriage scene, when he's on his knees in front of Pen and she cups the side of his head and his eyes do THAT thing and the look he gives her? i rewatched that two second bit on repeat for a minute. amazing. (that's exactly the kind of devotion i picture when I wrote dark Dramione in TEOAL towards the end)
-we get it, benedict is a slut. he fucks. i'm over it. i'm not interested in who he's fucking. i know the consensus is Lady Tilley will somehow tie in to Sophie but i just do not care about Benedict rn. he is pulling focus.
-hyacinth's actress is so stunning! all the actors are obvs but every time i look at her i see Brooke Shields. anyone else?
-i had higher hopes for Lord Debling. genuinely kind of disappointed. he's boring and feels fickle. also the abruptness of him going 'i need a wife to tend to my estate so i can go travel for 3 years so be warned that i can't love you' to 'you have feelings for another man? i'm done-zo.' like what. you just said you can't love her and will never be at home with her but it's a fucking problem that she likes someone else? even though she's is clearly willing to get over it by marrying you??? bro. bro.
-hate what they did with Colin's hair for most of his scenes. why flatten it all out and take out the adorable curls he had in the first episode????????????????? episode one hairstyle was god-tier. everything after that makes him look like he's wearing a bad and stiff wig. still hot tho. also on the hair note: please stop giving eloise bangs. please.
-people on reddit were near to rioting when they learned Kanthony was only in the first ep due to leaks. i was bummed but ultimately don't mind it. did we deserve to see more of them thanks to how badly s2 was handled?? absolutely. but if it's only sex scenes bc they're now trying for babies then i'm good for now. also glad that edwina and mary don't come back bc ngl they pissed me tf off in s2 thanks to how badly they were written. plus like i said, this season has FAR too many subplots to keep them in. the writers really should have trimmed things down. violet meeting Lady D's brother was also not necessary imo.
-i went from loathing cressida to actively sympathizing and rooting for her to snatch up debling in the latter half. well done, writers.
-all the featherington scenes were gold. pru and phillipa are incredible when in scenes together and i'm so glad we got more of that. albion finch is a treasure, too. i really think they should have spent more time on penelope and her mother's relationship bc it's a big part of the book with how portia assigned pen to be her caretaker for when she got old and that being pen's burden/reason to want to bug out and marry rather than stay with her abusive mother, not her sisters' heirs taking charge of the house. they leaned too much into the comedy with the featheringtons and forgot to remind us why penelope is so miserable at home too--the problem stems from her mother, too, not only her sisters. we got two tiny clips of that and that was it. not enough to really establish that. the featheringtons are funny yes but they are not good people (sans Pen). Portia is neglectful and rude and dismissive toward Pen and there is not enough of that so far.
-i haven't read fran's book yet so had no idea what to expect and thought i'd be bored. she is adorable and i'm rooting for her. i like john better than the other guy. but i'm not that invested in her plot. i have no true emotional attachment to her. she needed her own season or to be pushed back to s4.
-still don't like eloise but i'm warming to her. a third season straight of her being condescending to almost everyone outside of her family/friends does nothing to endear her to me. she still blames Whistledown for "ruining" her when she ruined herself by ignoring everyone's warnings and running around town doing socially unacceptable things. she still has a right to be upset with Whistledown/Pen but she needs to take accountability for her own shit. but her understanding and patience with cressida was really surprising and i liked that a lot so far. i can see why people are shipping them now!
-HOW HAVE PENELOPE AND COLIN NOT EVEN DANCED ONCE YET WHAT THE FUCK jk i'm sure we'll obvs get that in part 2 but i'm so accustomed to them having a dance in one of the first few episodes that this truly threw me.
-colin's wet dream. loved it. ngl i was fully expecting a masturbation scene in his bed and not only bc i wrote one into my fic lmao
-i fucking called it from the start that the first kiss would be in the featherington garden based off that screengrab. everything about it screamed romeo+juliet. that was my favorite scene so far it was so beautifully shot and the way he goes for the lightest kiss at first and then hesitates and then GOES BACK FOR MORE???? when he realizes he's super into it???? i collapsed. i fucking squee'd like it was 2003.
-i've been complaining on reddit that the makeup in the promos was fucking awful and way too heavy. it comes across much lighter in the final product/show and i'm so relieved because i was truly worried about that. nicola is a stunning stunning woman and i can't help but admire her every time she is on screen and the awful makeup they put on her for those promos were overtaking her face.
-two major changes i truly appreciate (bc i'm normally very critical about shondaland's writing)
1: the journal scene. i loved that colin had pen hide in his study. i really wanted them to get caught there. i love that the journal fight wasn't as huge as it was in the book because the book made it go on for too long and colin was unreasonably mad about it. i'm so glad it was a minor thing here and that they still showed that colin was really pleased when pen praised his writing and he said he'd consider letting her read more and left it at that.
2: the carriage proposal. my biggest issue with the book bc colin was borderline abusive when he pulled her out of the carriage and made her fall. hated that so i'm glad here he was pleased and still mischievous and held out his hand for her and proposed and wasn't rude and impatient like he was in the book. also the carriage scene was hot as hell and i did not fucking expect colin to fucking finger her right then and there with the goddamned WINDOWS OPEN. tbh i was expecting boob action like in the book but that was a surprising change.
-pacing. too many storylines makes for a too-quickly paced episode. i feel like we were catapulted into everything and my head was spinning. this is a show that, because it insists on such a large fucking cast, would immensely benefit from a 12 or even 20 episode run rather than eight. but we know netflix is a cheap bitch so that will never happen and shows this dense suffer for it.
-music. i do not care about covers. i just don't. it makes no difference to me who is added to the soundtrack or the easter egg hunt of finding which song was used in which scene. the original scores made for the show are beautiful on their own and don't distract like the covers do and that's all i'll say.
-already seeing reviews online from people complaining polin have no chemistry??? idk what show they're watching but it ain't this one. this has been a slow slow buildup and if you can't feel their chemistry then idk what to tell you bc it is there. (and this is gonna be a hot take and unpopular opinion but personally out of all the main couples so far i found daphne and simon's chemistry to feel really forced and kind of cringey so take my opinion as you will but pen and colin have LEAGUES more chemistry as friends to lovers here)
BUT: one could also blame this on the awful pacing of these first four episodes so far. it really would have been nice to have more filler time of col and pen doing the flirting lessons since that was cut too short too soon.
phew--.
i will most definitely have more to say later on but these are my immediate thoughts and i had to get them all down . if you got this far down then bless you and thanks for listening and lmk your thoughts! i'm dying to talk about this.

Okay let's get into this mom/daughter stuff between Trina and Portia. Before I dive in, I really need to take time to praise Tabyana and Brook for doing amazing work with portraying the collapse of a tight mother/daughter bond. It was visceral and hard to watch. Tabyana portrayed Trina's horror, sorrow, righteous anger and disgust so well.
You could see her admiration for her mother dying before her eyes. And Brook played the physicality of Portia's desperation to not lose Trina perfectly, made all the better by Tabyana's portrayal of Trina's desperation to pull away and not let her mother touch her. These two did the thing and made us feel the seriousness of this schism between Trina and Portia.

GH plots/characters that make 0 sense right now
a day and change of omg Lulu is gonna die. only to be forgotten for a few weeks now. I'm not holding my breath on it finishing any time soon. apparently she has plenty of time
Violet still hanging at the Qs. I actually like Violet, and I like her interactions with Tracy. But those are rare. And it seems like no one can come up w a plot for Chase, Brook Lynn, and Violet but this
Gio and his existence. He's fun, cracks jokes and... plays violin? I kinda like him, but he adds nothing
Nina just chilling and existing as a very tangential character. She has no plots
Joss has no real plots or contributions except running around and yelling about how bad Sonny is
Trina and this sucks because she's such an interesting character, but they're giving her nothing to do
Portia who just... complains about Heather a lot?
Which leads to the entire Heather Webber plot. I really do like Alley Mills, but they've dragged this plot out forever, and it's still going nowhere. like at all. they have to keep pulling it up every few months before we keep forgetting about it.
Cyrus who is also fascinating when he's being awful. But just about the time we think he's really gone, they shove him in a scene again??? And the obsession with religion is creepy. And his weird super obsession with Laura is creepy
Lois because why is she still at the Qs? I get that she reps for Deception, but... the wedding was forever ago. And she just lingers. I actually DO like her, but not this classist stuff with losing the accent
Sam and whatever is about to drop out of the sky and happen to her. which sucks because she's a rare stable parent on the show, and the character and actress deserve actual plots
