I miss seeing comic sans ppt WIP intros.

To anyone new to writeblr, these were a trend started by @/incandescent-creativity back in 2018/19 as a fun and silly way to introduce your WIP, using PowerPoint and Comic Sans font.

Please feel free to make them again. I know some people were hesitant because they worried about not being able to make theirs pretty and #aesthetic. But remember: they're meant to be kinda "shitty" — make it dumb, silly, poke fun at your characters. Just have fun!

once again i spent an insane amount of time on this but it was fun. i don't have asks on rn, but if you wanna know more about it like idk lemme know i'll ramble about anything specific you want (and whatever i want when i feel like it lmao)

I made a powerpoint presentation for The Runaway. I tried to make it comic sans, I swear, but Temperance refused to cooperate. Anyway, I realized I haven't talked about this Shapeshifter project nearly as much, so a formal introduction is in order.

The Runaway A Shapeshifter story

also known as: the story that got me anon hate from a jaded ex-friend who co-wrote the original version, then got mad that I kept writing after she cut me out of her life with no explanation :D

THE PREMISE

Temperance Maddox does a runner

ok but seriously, the title of the story is the plot: a shifter [Temperance] runs away from certain traumatic events and ends up stranded in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming

where he’s rescued by a quiet, kind single dad [Dean] with a ~mysterious past~, an adorably rude six year old [Kate], an empty room, and seemingly infinite patience for Temperance’s terrible attitude

Temperance is a totally mature and reasonable adult who absolutely does not argue with the six year old and engage in petty name calling with her

Temperance will also never fall for the man who rescued him. It’s not like he’s going to stick around long enough to even consider it. Right?

everyone involved questions why Dean bothered taking this guy in when he’s a

capital-P Problem - even to himself. Dean is not taking questions at this time

Tier One - The POV Characters: Dean Matthews & Temperance Maddox

dueling POVs are always fun in a romance-centric story, right?

ok neither of these two would shut up so they both get POVs so I can get some sleep

Tier Two - The Important Side Characters: Kate Matthews & Talia Salwood

one is dependent on their father and the other is just plain nosy, so they’re almost always around in one way or another

Tier Three - The Supporting Cast: the residents of Kilnora Falls

there’s a nonbinary mechanic, the mechanic’s Australian vampire partner, a witch that runs a coffee shop, forest rangers, well-meaning grandmas, and distrustful neighbors

imagine one of those small-town romcom background casts and you’re probably close. except most of these background characters are witches, vampires, or shifters

heavy on the Romance Protagonist vibes (the good kind, not the weird heteronormative kind)

has lots of feelings but cannot for the life of him figure out how to show them on his face

tries to be a good dad, kind of a pushover and would bend over backwards to keep his daughter happy

is a carpenter by trade, and always willing to help out around town when things need fixing

the kind of tragic backstory character that sneaks up on you, because how can such a decent guy have a tragic past?

would very much like to have a quiet, simple life in his quiet, far-from-simple mountain town but things just keep happening to him

did I mention he has a bit of a southern drawl? and can play the guitar?

The Setting

middle of nowhere town in the western mountains of Wyoming

the town is called Kilnora Falls and there are exactly 521 people living there

more than half the population is some kind of supernatural, the majority being shifters and witches

everyone knows that faeries are real, that they’re incredibly dangerous, and that no one’s seen a true fae in almost a decade since the old faerie door beneath the waterfall collapsed

there is a very strong distrust of strangers among the residents of the Falls. They don’t see many strangers, and not many people who grew up there choose to leave

this setting started as an inside joke between me and my partner because he grew up in that part of Wyoming and I think it’s hilarious to tease him about it. Now it’s its own thing with regional holidays and a whole map and everything

the entire town is less than one square mile in size

all the businesses in town are open 24 hours a day so that the nocturnal residents can still use their services. which means the bar is open 24 hours a day.... oh boy

the nearest ‘city’ is almost two hours away (Wyoming’s biggest town only has 65,000 people guys, the quotation marks are justified)

most people who are born here don’t leave, or if they do for school or work or whatever, they come back

Corva, local fiery pariah with the biggest chip on her shoulder it might as well be a boulder – doesn't know how to people. Barely knows how to human. Will probably bite you.

Daedon, local transman who just happens to be royalty, trying to ignore that fact while also joining the elite guardsmen with Corva

Falk, shapeshifting birdman that's been cursed for a few centuries, Corva's only “friend” up to this point.

Ziv, fellow guardsman that helps train the new apprentices. Sacrificial type, den mother.

Tay Lin, local warrior messenger and pastry dealer. Has the softest heart for Corva. Willing to be bitten to show her affections

Midisi, all hail the immortal god-dragon that is the true protector of the realm

The Premise / Why is this happening?

this started as a bnha fic with bnha ocs, no joke

probably a bit of the boys inspired too even though I've only ever seen it in gifs and clips

anyway most heroes in this story are like cops. we don't like cops here.

they hold the status quo, there's unnecessary bullying of civilians, you know the usual

and most villains, well they're just ordinary people who go the wrong Tier label is all. Most havent done anything wrong in their life, but they're "Cursed" to be seen as villains anyway

Enter Miyoko. A hero hopeful that is way too much of an activist against the current system for their own good (you go miyoko)

the premise / cont.

there's a hero killer out and about though and miyoko garners a little bit too much attention from both sides alike

a group of heroes end up getting together and try to murder miyoko; they think they succeed too and blame it on the hero killer

meanwhile the hero killer (Keisuke) helps rescue them and decides THIS ONE is going to help him overthrow the system

Miyoko has to, of course, battle with their concept of the status quo and what makes a villain and what makes a hero to move forward

the HoH, genderfluid morally grey protag we all need

a hero hopeful that works with the fire dpt in search and rescue operations

not a born and bred Misfit City citizen, they were sent to a children's home in the city and raised there due to their father's villainous actions.

will mock you in sign language and text to speech

their ability allows them to use radio waves to intercept or relay messages, jam signals and assist search and rescue via a form of echolocation

a well known activist in most circles; doesn't take shit despite several threats

A hero killer who hunts those that abuse others, he's not remotely vague about it either

needs super therapy tbqh (the entire cast does lbr)

born and bred in misfit city to an "Elite" family before being cast off by said family for his ability. Among other reasons.

has the ability to sense "death energy" accumulating in those that are dying or dead and "collect" it after their passing. He can then use this energy to create energy blasts.

really infatuated with Miyoko but not in a romantic way

has plans to take down the entire system that runs misfit city

A fire-type superhero known as Swan

Manipulates the public into liking her while simultaneously being blackmailed

in an extremely one sided, toxic relationship with Miyoko

known for putting civilains in danger with her ability

not a good superhero

swan wears her superhero suit daily over normal everyday clothes. the suit is made of polyester but is created to look like white armor with floral designs and the imprint of a swan on it

has a sordid, almost "villainous" past and therefore is expected to hide her identity from the public unlike most heroes

Themes: definitions of love, social expectations, relationships dynamics, idealization

Welcome to the loveliest campus in the world, protected by the ever adored Cupid Heart!

Ifeolewa is a sophomore college student that has been chosen to become a magical girl and defend the sanctity of love around her school!

…unfortunately, Ife has a 5th grader’s understanding of love at best and doesn’t quite understand the complexities of modern relationships and romances.

Now, Ife juggles school, fighting villains, “fixing relationships”, and trying to win the heart of her crush, Liho (her best friend’s incredibly recent ex-girlfriend).

Slide 2:

Slips of the Stars (comic)

Themes: loneliness, abandonment, free will vs fate, individual perspective

Kaasey “Slips” Marion is a aimless, bored, burnt out college student who doesn’t know where they’re going in life. 

They’re also convinced that every person around them is literally in a story, meticulously recording the story details in her notebook. They believe they are a background character in these stories, probably for comic relief.

Also, every day the world ends and then she wakes up at the beginning of the day again. 

That one’s new.

Slips has to step out of the shadows and work with her main characters to figure out what’s happening, why, who’s causing it, and how to help this story finally have its happy ending before time runs out.

Slide 3:

Hospital Food (achronological ergodic novel-y thing..?)

Themes: Mental health and chronic illness, identity, multigenerational relationships, life and what could lie beyond it (if anything)

Sickly new employee Ward devoted her time and energy to her new job at an inpatient care facility for individuals with deadly parasites eating them alive. Ward and her team fought day and night to save patient lives from the very same parasites that threatened Ward’s life more and more every second.

Now, Ward, her coworkers, and their clients are nowhere to be found. The facility they worked and stayed at no longer exists. 

What happened? Where did they go? Is anyone left alive? All that’s left are the forgotten files, notes, and memos collecting dust in abandoned desks and drawers, waiting to be discovered.

WIP Intro: Another Ocean's Moon

super quick synopsis // Two humans return to their home planet, one hoping to escape his overbearing parents, the other planning her long-overdue divorce, but somehow nothing is that simple.

Setting

Locality space: a galaxy liberally sprinkled with earthlike planets populated by humanoids. A small fraction of those humanoids are witches, those born with magical gifts that neither scientists nor magicians—those who learn to use magic through study—have been able to replicate. Travel between star systems is accomplished with warp magic, sometimes through the direct intervention of a warp witch on a starship, but more often through permanent stabilized warp tunnels. Some systems are completely warp-isolated, for any number of reasons. Even in connected systems, many people never leave their home planet or system.

AOM is split between the isolated system Ensaum, particularly the seaside village of Nicha Cove, and city of Tobarsha on the island of Aephar on Rade, part of Argoh locality.

Proper Synopsis

At thirteen, Sidney Reid moved from Tobarsha, Rade, to Ensaum, an isolated system, where his parents and some three dozen other people intended to escape capitalism and become self-sufficient. Now, at almost thirty, the thing he wants most is to go back to Tobarsha, maybe forever. The first step is to convince his parents to set him up with a warp transit in their ship, and his best friend Horatio’s thirtieth birthday party in Tobarsha seems like a good excuse. But he can’t even bring himself to ask when his parents only seem to be interested in getting him to marry his friend Colin and “finally settle down”. When they figure out that his attachment to Tobarsha is standing in the way, they attempt to break that attachment, and end up destroying Sid’s most prized possession: seventeen years of handwritten letters from Horatio. Knowing staying is not an option anymore, Sid turns to his friend Avis, a middle-aged not-quite-divorcee with no love for his parents. Together they manage to steal an escape pod from his parents’ warp ship and make it back to Tobarsha in one piece.

Unfortunately, the aura of capitalism isn’t enough to keep Sid’s parents at bay, and they’re not mincing their meanings anymore. They always know exactly what will hurt him the most, and he’s beginning to suspect it’s because they gave him his weak points. As much as Horatio and his family want to protect him, Sid can’t let them get caught in the wake of his force-of-nature parents, even though he doesn’t know how he’s going to get rid of them on his own.

Avis, meanwhile, has become an equally frightening force in the face of her estranged husband, Sorian, who she kicked off Ensaum after she found out he had cheated on her and had a son—Horatio—back on Rade. He’s spent fifteen years waiting to find out if she’s going to divorce him, and now he’s bending over backwards to be nice to her. It should be easy to get rid of such a wet noodle of a man, and yet she can’t quite seem to let go—but she’s not going to hold on without a fight.
