Dogday!! Trying to figure out a way to send a Y/N in there to help him.
Rambles under the cut.
(I drew my sona in these cuz self-indulgent, but if I ever write anything it'll be a reader insert with little to no canon design.)
Design notes: Took some elements from his game model as well as his cartoon design. I think when we see him, he is emaciated and/or stretched out, the way CatNap is said to be able to stretch. Don't know if that's an ability all Smiling Critters have though. For now I'm saying it is SOMEWHAT but CatNap is the better at it by MILES. In any case, that's why he's not quite as lanky as he is in game, and is also a bit shorter.
I also he can be bipedal or quadrupedal, much like CatNap seems to be able to switch back and forth. A bit more animalistic than his cartoon counterpart, but part of that is just him not wanting to tower over the children and employees all the time, so drops down to all fours quite a bit.
The fur texture on his ears in the game cave him a floofy cocker spaniel look so I went with that instead of the less floofy ears he has in the cartoon and his original plushie.
The white pupils being absent when we see him I believe is a sign of how weak he is. When healthy, all the Bigger Bodies Smiling Critters have them, much like CatNap does.
Trying to actually keep his huge open-mouth smile at all times, unlike with my FNAF stuff where I give them more of an ability to emote. That said trying to get him to look angry or sad was a challenge. Sad I think worked okay but the one where I meant him to look angry he looks more cocky or smirky than mad. Tender moments are a bit harder too, as keeping that huge grin with more tender eyes results in him looking either drunk or horney or just like he's not taking the moment very seriously, haha.
And the story? Not sure yet, bouncing around a few ideas, though I don't think I'll have the reader and the player be the same person. Reader might be someone who came up in PlayCare alongside Dogday. Perhaps they knew each other as kids when Dogday was still human. Haven't decided how much of this Dogday remembers or at what point the reader realizes Dogday is their old friend who got "adopted".
Reader grows up the Playcare and is given a job once they're an adult. (Something something starting the brainwashing and normalization of bullshit early to make employees who are more willing to look the other way?)
Dogday somehow kept them hidden during the Hour of Joy and the reader's been living in the caves ever since. (The caves open up so much possibility for people being hidden in the factory. Much easier to say there's an unknown offshoot of a natural cave system than an unknown part of the factory.)
How are they staying fed? Uhhhh...cave mushrooms? Trips to the surface? Moss? Stale vending machine candy? I don't know yet.
Not sure how to pull a happy ending out of this horror but I'm trying. Maybe the reader convinces Dogday to leave after Ch 3 because he'd be too weak to help anyway or something? And uh...I'm just gonna pretend since he's kinda a plushie he can be sewn back together even though I'm PRETTY SURE canonically the inclusion of blood and guts makes that...not a thing.
Just remember guys...all winds blow away...eventually.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT HEAR ME OUT.
Grandma cat!reader. Who was a old women who got experimented on and turned into a smiling critter but like the caretaker of the smiling critters.
Often seen walking around with a scruffed smiling critter hanging from her mouth(somehow-) and overfeeding the smiling critters or children.
How would a saved dogday and (maybe) good catnap react to the player bringing them to readers containment room. (She was locked in before the Hour of Joy due to something and just stayed there)?
I just want to see them get some sort of parental love 🥹😖
- Marshmellow🤍
I swear ya'll are gonna make me cry with these requests /nm <3
.....
Dogday
In your old age, you didn't wanna retire from Playtime Co. and spend the remainder of your life laying around, waiting for your body and mind to deteriorate.
So instead you became one of the few willing volunteers for the Bigger Bodies Initiative, being turned into a Smiling Critter (which made you especially happy since your grandkids adored the toyline and cartoon show).
In the show, the gang mentioned a grandma character several times (albeit she was unseen) and with Catnap being recalled from all promo materials, Playtime Co. took creative liberties and made you the newest feline replacement, fitted with a cinnamon scent and pie necklace.
Your tagline was something like "The Smiling Critters take care of our orphans, but who takes care of them? Why, their Grandma [Y/n], of course! She's full of love and wisdom!"
True to that, you became the caretaker of the Critters and children, ensuring everyone's fed well and staying out of trouble.
The incident with Bron (Thomas/Experiment 1199) had scientists rethinking how they'd introduce willing experiments to those...well..less-than-willing.
So you had a supervised introduction to the SCs (with children also present to discourage them from reacting violently). You were even given a containment cell you could retreat to in case of emergencies.
Luckily, you never had to use that room--as they accepted you and began calling you "grandma" since day one.
Dogday, especially, got attached to you.
You called him "DD" and "Doggy-Dearie".
Being a bit taller than the rest of them allows you to pick them up by the scuff of their necks if they're being too rowdy (Kickin and Hoppy, especially).
Even so, you're very sweet to all of them, letting them snuggle up to you as you shared stories and made them food so they could keep up with the little ones.
All was well in the Playhouse up until the Hour of Joy of course.
But you were unaware of it since Catnap sabotaged your room's lock, keeping you trapped to lower the Smiling Critters' morale.
Dogday was 100% convinced you were dead.
However you survived long enough for the Employee's arrival years later, never knowing what happened to the factory..
After rescuing Dogday, they find your door and powered it up, allowing the two entry into the perfectly intact space within.
Your fur was matted and you looked sickly, but you still jump up upon seeing the state your dear "grandson" was in.
It devastated you.
"My word..Dog-Dearie.." Your heart shatters. "Your legs..where are they? Where is everyone?"
Something inside of him ultimately breaks as he realizes you were alive...and you were here all along.
"G-Grandma...! Oh...god..I-I thought you were--" He crawls away from the Employee and towards you, sobbing into your lap. "You were h-here..this whole time! I-I wanted to see you, but..C-Catnap..he.."
"Shh, shhh..I'm here now, my sweet pup. It's alright." You hush, stroking his ears and resting a paw on his back, before looking to the Employee. "You must be terribly confused..as am I.."
After explaining your role--and calming Dogday down--the two tell you about what's happened to the factory, and at first you can't believe it...
Until you all wander through the Playhouse and see the horrid state it's in, but they're confused as to why none of the mini Critters attack you.
Only then do you mention feeding them over the years through little vents and holes in the walls, keeping their hunger moderately satiated.
Dogday feels awful, and even more upset at Catnap for lying about your fate.
But still, you don't show any ill-will towards any of the Smiling Critters, even if one of them had betrayed you all.
Instead you just let Dogday cling to you as you escape together and try your best to keep up.
Catnap
Like the rest of the Smiling Critters, Catnap considered you family and often went to you for snacks and such.
Or if he needs a break from trying to put all the rowdy orphans to bed in Home Sweet Home. Only then is he given permission to see you.
He always liked curling up in your lap, purring while you stroke his fur and tell him a story (which is sometimes an event from your old human life, albeit you do accidentally confuse yourself since ofc you're not supposed to remember any details of your old life).
The Prototype sees this as a problem, as Theodore Catnap was getting a bit too comfortable with his life here and needed a reminder of his mission....and so he tells him the truth.
About how you not only worked at the factory until you reached retirement age...but you were also a willing participant in the experiments.
And suddenly, he couldn't look at you the same way anymore. Only with resentment.
It wasn't fair.
You got to lead a long and fulfilling life. Theodore barely got the chance to grow up and be a normal kid.
You had the procedure and associated risks explained to you clear as day. Theodore never had the luxury of being warned ahead of time before he was grabbed and put under the knife after recovering from the incident with the green grabpack hand.
All he wanted was to free the others, but he ended up becoming their warden instead.
He almost forgot all of that because of you.
He refuses your food now, and you worry for him when you see how skinny he becomes as the months pass.
But he's very cryptic in the way he talks to you, the other SCs, and the staff...so you didn't know for sure what you did to upset him so much.
"Catnap, dearie..you're skin and bones. Let me-"
"I know what you were, and what you've become...the Prototype told me so."
You don't know what to say. What could you say when he kept talking about this "Prototype" person?
Despite his hatred, the SCs were conditioned to love you regardless, and so before the Hour of Joy Catnap decided to sabotage the locks of your containment room.
That way, he wouldn't be tempted to kill you...and he'd spare you from the grief of what he ends up doing to the other SCs, including Dogday.
Years later, when the Employee finally knocks some sense into him after saving him from being sacrificed to the Prototype, he takes them to your room, believing you to be dead from starvation.
Instead, though, they break you out and he discovers you're very much alive.
And Catnap just breaks down, groveling and begging for your forgiveness.
You were the one who always tried to reach out and comfort him, giving him some relief from the misery of being trapped in this factory....and he pushed you away.
But you don't hate him for locking you up, realizing that he still cared about you after all this time. Even when the Prototype told him about your past.
He wanted to keep you safe.
That alone proves he had a heart, and you reassure him of that as he cuddles up to you for a little while.
Once he's calmer, you go with him, Dogday (assuming he was saved), and the Employee to meet with Poppy and Kissy--both of whom are relieved to see you alive

Hiii! Im not sure how requests are doing, but I wanted to add one in if that’s okay? Based off the I’m So Sorry story, what if reader went missing for months. None of the toys know what happened, because the company was like “You know what? Nah we can’t risk it”. And then the day right before the Hour of Joy a new toy is revealed in Play Care (or wherever else), a mermaid/merman 👀 And then that just further fuels the toys want to cause the Hour of Joy once they find out
Harmful Revelations
Note || for those confused, here’s the link to the post. BUT— THE ANGST?? HELLO?
Note V2 || sorry this took so long, it’s mayhaps short and stout. Headcanons like before, but this will work okay?
Sypnosis || How would one think this is a dream come true? Well you’re wrong. So out for long and long time had you been found missing, how wonderful to know your importance in their eyes.
Tumblr media
Something felt off, strange. You were gone for so long, quite a long time now. It was appearing to be strange to both CatNap and DogDay alike, all the other Smiling Critters had shared the same sentiments. Why did you disappear so suddenly? Nothing could be known about you, you simply just went off the grid.
DogDay had tried asking around, any employees in sight that he could find. Even trying to take it up with any superior, alas he was left without a plausible answer. Always faced with, “Sorry, but your angel has been terminated.” or, “Oh, em? I’m pretty sure [First Name] quit as far as I know.”
Many, and by many toys, were visibly concerned about your lack of appearance. Huggy and even Mommy asked about You, to which DogDay had apologized – he was in the dark as they were. Pug-a-Pillar felt sad, he couldn’t do anything to help, or even find out anything plausible. Mommy reassured the fluffy pillar, saying how many toys felt sad about you not showing up to the building anymore.
Oh hell.
Soon enough, their anger was rightfully provoked. A new toy had been introduced to Game station, retaining an appearance that was very reminiscent of your physical and mental quailites. Mommy found it odd and disturbing even for someone like him, why did this half-human, half-fish person look so closely like you?
The insomniac cat was the first to notice this alongside Mommy as she had talked about her concerns with CatNap, spreading this information quickly among the Smiling Critters. Soon so many more had found out about this, knowing about the toy that looked so much like you. Huggy Wuggy was one of the few that had a gall to strike a conversation with the toy, nobody (or no toy) had expected the hugger to come back with a very strikingly angry look about his wits.
Oh they were all very angry as soon as Huggy began spreading this information around once again, revealing the fact it was indeed you. Completely transformed, your consciousness being molded into the body you were in now. You were experimented on as they were, the few of them were extremely set off.
Might one even dare say that they were unnerved to the point to finally set off the Hour Of Joy.
Let’s say nobody came out alive to tell the tale for a reason.

sick and tired
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
my close call with bronchitis yesterday inspired me to write this LMAO
c/w: she/her pronouns, brief mention of getting eaten, sick fic, we’re thugging it out tho, dogday cuddling us AUGHHHH, pure fluff, he wants us to be healthy :D
(I mentioned Bobby bearhug in here because she’s a cutie pootie 🫶🏼)
_______
from the time she had spent in this god forsaken factory, she’s endured scrapes, cuts, bruises, bloody noses, and possibly a broken rib or two.
she’d been grateful for the saving graces of the abandoned first aid stations, thankful that some of them still had bandages and disinfected to make sure she didn’t get an infection in any open wound areas.
but, unfortunately, she would forget about the immune system infections that were easy to catch in an abandoned facility such as this.
it started with a sneeze after she awoken from the few twenty minute naps she awarded herself with, which escalated into multiple sneezes throughout her journey.
she docked it to just allergies, this place was infested with dust over the years, it wasn’t that much to worry about.
the gas mask she found to protect herself from the red smoke catnap had made did little to stop her from sneezing. even with the amount of times she dusted it off.
when she decided to save the last remaining smiling critter from his ultimate death from getting eaten from the inside, she was basically running on the little breath she had and adrenaline.
her chest tightened with pain at every breath she took, consisted sneezing turned into dry coughing as she practically stumbled with every step.
after making it out of the elevator escaping the flesh eating toys, she began to walk off the elevator, clammy hands gripping the grabpack as she mumbled to herself about which direction the first aid was.
“angel?” she hummed and turned to the voice, headache starting to form as she shut her eyes to try and soothe it.
dogday wasn’t unaware in the signs of a rising sickness in humans, he would see them all the time when the kids in the playcare acted like nothing was wrong when they were obviously close to collapsing.
and she was no different. he could see her chest quickly rising and falling as she tried to collect her breath, how her legs and hands shook and how chapped her lips were.
she let out a gravely cough, body shaking as she groggily pushed out, “first aids somewhere here…..gotta get you fixed up.” she mumbled, pushing through as she grudgingly walked forward.
he stared at her for a moment, the permanent happy expression on his face seemed to change to a worry smile.
when she first grabbed him off the restraints that held him, he saw that tired and determined look in her eyes that made the empty feeling in his chest spark with something he had not felt for a long time.
the first stumble and second stumble she made almost wanted the dog to just release his grip and let the animals take him to eat, but the dry cough that escaped her lips made his grip tighten around her waist.
even though he thinks he wasted her precious time to save him, he was going to make sure she was going to be make it through this hellhole.
he wasn’t going to lose the person who made him have hope to see another day.
a moment of silence past by before the dirty orange dog let out a dry laugh, “well, angel, if you want to go to the first aid station,” he used his big hand to point to the opposite direction, “then you might want to go that way.”
she blinks owlishly, slowly looking where his hand was pointing and letting it process in her mind.
“…..ohhhh.”
_____________
she slowly placed dogday on the first aid bed, breathing a sigh of relief and nearly collapsed too before she straightened herself up.
“okay….okay….” she swallowed thickly, running a shaky hand through her hair. “there should be a stitching kit here somewhere-“ she coughs in her arm, turning around to rummage through the cabinets hastily.
the orange dog looked down at his lower half, opening to the inside of his body was always something that scared him.
he was grateful she was planning to stitch him up, but with the way she could barely could walk made him worry about hurt herself.
looking back at her, dogday cleared his throat before calling out, “forgive me for staring, angel, but you look a little under the weather.” he spoke with concern lacing his voice.
she let out a ‘huh?’ while she rummages through the dusty cabinets, before sniffling and taking a short breath, “ah it’s probably just-“ she stopped to sneeze, muffling it in her arm.
“just-“ she sniffles, shortly laughing, “a day cold.” she celebrates internally when she saw the sewing kit, turning around to face the giant dog on the bed.
she grabbed a chair and sat down next to the bed, letting out a satisfied sigh as her legs finally rested and began opening up the kit.
she rummaged through the box, “now I don’t call myself a professional stitcher-“ a cough “-I assume it’s going to be easier then stitching up skin, but just let me know if it starts to hurt.”
dogday stares as she fumbles with the needle and thread, whispering a few curses as her fingers seemed to miss the needles hole.
he watches as she paused for a moment, closing her eyes as her breath became shaky and sharp, one of her hands going to her chest to press against it.
her sickness was getting worse, and she seemed to be getting stressed. so he decided to do what the old dogday would had done.
give someone a smile.
it takes a moment for her to compose herself, before clearing her throat and opening her eyes, “okay, okay, I’m alright, I’m going-“ she felt a large hand on her forehead, gently pressing it and a deep hum rumbling out.
she didn’t notice him moving to rest on his side, his face a few inches from hers. she couldn’t tell if it was the embarrassment or the sudden change of body temperature making her face heat up.
a few seconds of analyzing her, before he mumbled something to himself and nodding. he pulled his large hand away from her.
he stared at her when he spoke, “I can’t feel your body temperature, fur making it hard to tell.” he rose both of his hands up wiggling his fingers.
she squints her eyes in confusion, tilting her head as he taps the side of his head, “however, my sharp instincts tell me, and they are never wrong,“ he raises a finger and taps her nose gently, “that you have caught a small bug, angel.” his voice held a calm tone mixed with playfulness.
her nose twitches when he tapped it, making a small shaky smile form on her lips. it didn’t matter how small it was, he took that as a victory in his book. she sighs softly, tapping his hand that rests closed to her on the bed.
“okay, maybe I caught a bug,” she cleared her throat, running a hand through her hair. “but I can’t really afford being sick right now, I’m literally-“ she coughs, giving a short ‘excuse me’ before starting again, “being chased down every corner I turn.”
dogday rests his head on his hand, “you’re more at risk of getting caught now that your sick, you need rest,” he studied her body language carefully, watching as she shook her head.
“no, I need to patch you up,” she holds her chest as she coughs in her arm. “I can stitch up your top half so it won’t be expose, maybe we can find your leg’s somewhere around here.”
he watches as she talks to herself, picking at her lips. he sighs softly, raising to place a hand on her shoulder and seeing her flinch at the touch.
“angel, please, I can wait to be stitched up,” he spoke softly, rubbing her shoulder tentatively. he didn’t want to see her push through her sickness just to fix him up.
“what I don’t want is to see you collapse and hurt yourself, he pointed at her body language, how her body was basically shaking like a leaf.
his ears twitch as he heard the deep intake of her breathing, before she released it in a soft exhale. she places the stitching kit on the floor, placing her hands on her lap.
“okay, you win.” she could practically see his imaginary tail wagging in satisfaction, making her smile. “I’ll go and lay down-“
she felt two hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her into the surprisingly soft embrace of the mascots chest. she breathed through her nose, and softly sighed at the faint smell of vanilla.
he never lost that scent.
dogday hummed a random song, gently rubbing her tense shoulders. “I’d like to say hugs are the best type of medicine, next to laughter of course.” he felt his chest warm up at the soft laugh from her lips.
“god that’s so corny.” she sniffles, coughing a bit into her fist.
he laughs, tapping his fingers against her, “well, a old friend taught me that, and it always helped me,” he gives his own cough, clearing his throat as he adds on, “I’ll look for some medication for you, but for now-“
he playfully squeezed her, making her laugh more. her laughs were congested, but he didn’t care, he just cared about getting her better, “let the hugs work it’s magic.”
she giggled, wrapping her arms around his plush body and sniffling a bit, mumbling softly, “thank you, dogday.” she blinks wearily, before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep, her body losing its tension as she inhaled his vanilla scent.
dogday watched as she falls into slumber, his giant hand cradling her back as he nuzzled his face into her hair. “no, thank you, my angel.”
it felt good to give a smile, even in this hellhole, to his angel.

OH BIG BRAIN IDEA-
Reverse Puss In Boots panic attack scene with Reader calming Dogday down from a panic attack, 'cause this case it's the dog that needs comforting-
"[Y/n]! Come quickly! Something's wrong with Dogday!"
Pausing in your repairs of Kissy's arm, you made sure to cut the thread before giving her an apologetic look. Fortunately, she seemed to understand that you needed to heed Poppy's call right away, and so you followed the little doll into the next room over.
There, Dogday was resting...although at this moment he was very much doing the opposite.
He was slumped against the wall, out of the makeshift dogbed you and Kissy put together for him, a hand clutching his chest--but it kept heaving, rapidly rising and falling with each labored breath.
His white pupils were completely gone, not a shred of light to be found within his sockets, and that was very alarming.
Did he see something?
Did an intruder try to get in?
While Poppy couldn't guarantee any place in the factory was safe, she did mention this area was a good place to hunker down, rest, and plan your next move against the Prototype.
But if that's the case...then what was going on with him?
You needed to find out fast.
"Dogday...what's wrong..??!"
Even though he could hear you and see you kneeling in front of him, concern written all over your face, he simply couldn't answer. He couldn't even keep his focus on you, as a whirlwind of terror and panic clouded his mind.
The only thing he could do was paw at his chest, unable to make sense of why his heart refused to stop pounding, as though it was trying to break free.
Or maybe..
It was a little Smiling Critter who stowed away inside him, trying to get out....
The more he thought about it, the worse he felt.
"I don't know what happened.." Poppy murmured to you, shaking her head. "I swear he was fine a second ago! Y-You think his organs might be shutting down? Or his hunger is-?"
"No, I know exactly what's wrong." You calmly answered, much to her bewilderment.
But before she could question you further, you moved over to Dogday's side before hugging him around the torso, squishing your cheek against his chest the moment he took his paws off of it.
And you simply waited.
The little doll had no idea how this was helping him, although she soon realized his breaths were finally starting to slow. His white pupils flickered back to life, looking down and seeing you embrace him without any regard to your own safety.
Somehow..you provided him with such a comforting weight that drowned out his panicked thoughts.
One of his trembling paws eventually came to rest atop your head, and he slowly began to pet you much like a human would pet a dog: gentle, ensuring he wasn't too rough.
After a few more moments passed, you felt his breaths even out to the point where his chest wasn't heaving like before, and he placed his paw on your back.
Finally, he spoke.
"A-Angel...thank you..I..don't know what happened.."
"It's okay." You sat up to look at him, seeing the tears threatening to spill from his sockets. "You were just having a panic attack. But it's over..you did great."
"Is..that what it was?" He murmured, confused.
"That's all it was. Do you remember what led to it?"
"...'m not sure. I was..just thinking about Catnap, and the Prototype, and suddenly I felt this strange tightness in my chest. Thought somethin' was wrong with my lungs...a-and then the room just started spinning. Next thing I knew, I...I-I couldn't breathe. I couldn't talk to Poppy or you, angel. Thought one of those wretched things was trying to eat me from the inside out. B-But..that was just all in my head, right? I'm not...nothing was-?"
"I made sure none snuck inside when I was fixing you up. You're safe from them." Taking one of his paws into your hands, you smiled, seeing Kissy walk into the room. "Catnap and the Prototype have been on all of our minds lately, and it's been...a stressful few hours."
"...I didn't mean to scare you all..usually it's me who calms people down, ya know?" He sighed quietly, still feeling guilty. "You sure I'm not going to slow you down? Because if I have another attack...i-it could be at the worst time, and then-"
"Then I'll help you through it. I made a promise to get you all out of here, and I'm sticking by that." You reassured.
Dogday looked surprised, but he relaxed his shoulders in relief, tail wagging along the floor. "Thank you, angel.."
He had his doubts before, about whether saving him from the Playhouse was more trouble than it's worth.
But now he knows you're in this for the long run, ready to help guide him out of the darkness.

hi there, could I get poppy playtime (if that is to many characters then just catnap and dogday are fine) with a reader that has pica (if you don't know what that is it is where a person can tend to eat or bite on things not edible, like paper, erasers, eca)
I can do a few!
.....
Huggy (saved/rescued) + Poppy
While in his "idle mode" on the podium, he sees you munching on a piece of paper like lettuce and then plush stuffing like it's cotton candy.
And then you just snatch the key from him and move onto the next puzzle, and he goes "???????"
Why did you eat those things? Did they somehow sustain your hunger?
Huggy only gets to learn more after you save him from falling (and tame him with an actual edible snack you brought along), taking a breather after freeing Poppy from her box.
When he grabs one a random paper, you assume he wants to draw something as a way to communicate...until he starts chowing it down.
In his mind, humans DO eat paper and he's been starving and cannibalizing toys (and trying to eat you) for nothing...
But then he spits it out, picking shredded bits out of his teeth, before glaring at you as if you told him to eat that.
You're a little scared and confused until Poppy explains that he was only trying to mimic what you do, and she asks why you eat such random little things.
Eventually you explain to the pair of your condition called "pica".
You've had it most of your life, with an official diagnosis to boot, but it never really hurt your digestive tract.
Over the years you've cut the habit, although being stuck in this factory meant you had to find other sources of food...even those not even considered food at all.
Some of your coworkers knew about it, and their only complaint was the occasional eraser going missing thanks to you (which you deny stealing...most of the time).
"I always joke about having a cast-iron stomach," you tell the toys. "Food is the least of my......"
But you pause and look at Huggy, realizing he might be offended by you shrugging off food as negligible to your survival.
No matter what, though, it's not gonna stop him from trying different non-food items and seeing what tastes good.
He might've eaten pieces of clothing and plush fabric/stuffing over the years, albeit none of it was delicious by itself.
Dogday
"They want nothing more than to crawl beneath your skin and eat away at you bit by little bit--fill what feels empty inside themselves."
"Jesus, that sounds horrific." You say as you crunch on a piece of chalk (one of several that you got from the schoolhouse) nonchalantly.
Dogday takes immediate notice and is rather concerned. He knows the chalk and crayons here are made to be non-toxic, but insists they're not safe for human consumption.
He fears it's gonna kill you and begs you to stop, saying you needed to live.
Before you could fully explain your condition, the mini-critters are closing in, so you free him and haul ass out of the playhouse of horrors.
After making it somewhere safe where you could patch him up, he presses you on why you continue to eat all these foreign objects.
But he jumps to the conclusion that you got desperate after running out of food, going mad from hunger like the other toys did...
He recalls Picky Piggy going through something similar, and he gets a bad flashback to the Hour of Joy when he had to stop her from eating Crafty's paint....and the corpse of a Smiling Critter -
"Dogday? Hey stay with me..it's okay. I'm here, I'm here.." You console him, calming him down from his panic attack. "I'm not going crazy, alright? I just have this small condition called pica."
"...p-pica? Oh. I thought...kids grow outta that.." He mutters, finding familiarity with that term.
He's had his fair share of toddlers putting things in their mouth that could be choking hazards.
You shake your head, explaining that it stuck with you, but it doesn't cause your stomach any pain as long as you're careful about what you eat.
Dogday's relieved you're not losing it.
Even so, though, he's gonna feel nervous if he catches you eating another piece of chalk.
But it's just his instincts as a child caretaker, so you couldn't blame him.
Catnap
He hangs out in the shadows for the most part, watching your every move...and he does pick up on your strange habit of eating non-food objects.
It's something orphaned toddlers in the playhouse often did, and he'd see the other Smiling Critters hurry to take the items away from them before any emergencies happened.
But those memories mean nothing to him.
All he's doing is waiting for you to eat the wrong thing and keel over.
Unfortunately for him, you just keep trudging on, munching on a crayon like it's normal before throwing your gas mask back on.
He doesn't know how you manage to stomach so many things, and honestly is kinda envious.
Why can't he and the others sustain their hunger like you did?
It does make for some rather..amusing situations, though. Such as when you're in the smoke factory and use the elevator to escape him.
You just stand there as the doors close, eating some chalk and crunching it loudly without breaking eye contact with Catnap's horrific eldritch form.
Obviously, you're stress-eating at that point, but he doesn't have to know.
Miss Delight
The schoolhouse was like a cafeteria for someone with pica, aka you.
While looking for generators, you just pick up whatever you find: erasers, chalk, crayons, etc. and start biting them, or even chewing and swallowing them.
It only succeeds in angering Miss Delight right away, as she sees you doing all of this and snaps at how "childish" you are for eating things you shouldn't.
But you when shout back that you have pica, the PA system suddenly goes quiet.
Like Dogday and Catnap, that definitely triggered some memories for her, which she dwells on for a while before realizing you were still in the school..
And seeing you eating stuff makes her howling stomach grow louder.
"Barb" says you're mocking her own hunger, especially since she notices you gathering the notes she left around the place, and insists on killing you.
When you finally do encounter her, she is visibly disturbed by you crunching on a piece of chalk and throwing it to the ground to distract her, buying you time to break eye contact and flee.
She calls you "crazy", but you're not the one chasing her with a weapon made of a ruler and colored pencils.

Hello hello!! I was not expecting requests to be open again so fast, but i am DEVOURING your writing, so i shan't complain!
What about Dogday getting saved by a teenager who’s desensitized to the horrors of the factory? Like of course, they’re perturbed, but aside from initially seeing Dogday(because holy shit), the biggest reaction they’ll give is a cringe and a “eugh” or some other mild exclamation of “that’s fucked up.” Essentially just Dogday interacting with a kid who’s weirdly chill with the circumstances and tries to be silly sometimes despite the persisting horrors.
Thank you so much and have a wonderful day/night!!!
Awe thanks! Have a good day/night too!
.......
"You..you're Poppy's angel..come to save us-"
"Eugh..what the hell happened to you?"
While back in the day, Dogday would've scolded you for using profane language...he finds it understandable considering you discovered him in his....erm..current condition.
The initial shock of seeing him would have anybody from outside the factory deeply disturbed.
But he's surprised that you're not fully freaked out and didn't run away.
Instead you manage to get him out of the Playhouse (while curbstomping a few little critters who tried crawling into his body along the way) and found a safe spot to rest.
Despite his insistence that you should leave him, you point out that he mentioned you saving him earlier.
"When you said "us", I thought that included you, too."
"I-I meant the others. The ones who can still walk..and still have a fighting chance. Look at me, kid. All I'm gonna do is weigh you down."
"....I mean, you are kinda heavy. But I've lifted worse with this grabpack. I got you."
He's confused by how oddly calm you are about everything.
If you were able to get down this far in the facility, you would've had to cross paths with Huggy, Mommy, Catnap, and Miss Delight at some point.
By all accounts, you definitely should've been traumatized at least from seeing all the bloody toys laying around.
Yet you're cool as a cucumber as you try your best to fix him (with assistance from Kissy, Ollie, and Poppy, of course, who are stunned you came out of the Playhouse alive)
Dogday remembers how scared the children were during the Hour of Joy, comforting them as he helped them flee the terror...so to be comforted by a kid now felt strange.
Yet your calm demeanor helps ground him whenever he starts to have a panic attack over Catnap finding him or if he feels like a critter or two is already inside of him, trying to take hold and eat whatever organs he had remaining (but it's just a sensation he feels from time to time).
You snap him out of it by asking rather silly questions.
"What if I stuck a flare in your mouth? Would that deter them?"
"...what? Um...I-I suppose that could work, but hopefully it's not a theory we have to test anytime soon.."
Even if Poppy decided to show you the Hour of Joy tape (which he had to look away from and tried persuading you to do the same), your only reaction is a slight grimace and a simple "damn wtf....you guys think any of those workers were running late or didn't go in that day?"
Dogday is shocked you'd joke at a time like this...but she knows you better and tells him you're just like That(tm).
You do care about them. You do wanna destroy the Prototype and save whoever you can along the way--including him.
It just may take some time for him to get used to your personality.

unplanned spinoff from this story
c/w: she/her pronouns, bigger bodies initiative mentioned, hurt/comfort, kinda bad sighhhh, rip theo you would had loved pj masks, place holder names teehee, I tried ughhh
______
“angel! there you are.” dogday could feel his shoulders drop in relief, seeing his angel standing at a desk with her back to him.
he walked towards her, slightly bending down from the roof not being accommodating to his height. “we all got a little worried there when you disappeared, y’know?” he gave a grainy chuckle, slowly stopping behind her.
“even with catnap gone, I….don’t like the thought of you alone.” he trailed off at the end, feeling slightly flustered at the slight implication of wanting to be with her always.
after hearing no response from her, he shook his head and cleared his throat, “but nevermind that, what made you want to come here, angel?”
no response once more. she still faced the desk, seemingly reading something that rested on it.
tilting his head, he slowly walked beside her to get a better look, “angel? are you alright-!” he saw that look in her eyes, that look he never wanted to see again in her.
fright.
he was about to ask again what was wrong, desperately wanting to help her, until he saw what she was looking at on the table.
he squinted a bit to get a better look, before the realization hit him like a train.
oh.
oh no.
oh…..oh dear.
he slowly looked back at her, watching as her eyes closed to hold back the emotions threatening to spill.
“oh…..oh angel.” he mumbled, reaching out to her, wanting to hold her and comfort her.
but she moved away, pushing herself back to create distance. dogdays ears dropped, his tail sadly wagging between his legs.
it was pure silence between them, the only thing filling the void was the soft humming of the office lights.
he could tell by her body language that she was tense, her shoulders hitched up and hands gripping her arms as she crossed them over her chest.
he never wanted her to find out this way, he never wanted to see her so distraught like this.
he watched her take a shaky breath, before she finally spoke.
“I….why?” she whispered, finally looking at him, “why…..was this…..this was it?” she motioned to his appearance, voice getting shaky, “this was the big thing you couldn’t tell me?”
he looked down at himself, sputtering out, “angel, please-“
she cut him off, holding a hand out making him quickly stop. she took another shaky breath, “the…..the others…..the orphans.” she points at him, “did you know? were you just playing stupid with me? when you said that he-“
her voice caught in her throat, a sob threatening to break out. “when you assured me he was adopted, were you lying to me?”
he quickly shook his head, “no, no angel, I wouldn’t had never lied to you-“
“then why did you never tell me, jean?” he felt his empty chest tighten at that name. he hadn’t heard that name in years, he barely even remembered the name.
years of isolation in that cage made his memories come back from the darkness, before the hour of joy, before the experiments, before even signing up for the initiative.
he remembered working at the playcare, being another employee in the place. he remembered her, how she cared for each and every kid and how she smuggled candy to them from the outside.
he remembered how on their breaks they would talk about anything. they were both like an open book to each other.
he also remembered the last day he ever saw her as himself, his actual self. how he desperately wanted to tell her, how that will be the last time they saw each other normally.
how he had to cover it up with a smile and a tease, hugging her tightly as he whispered his last goodbye to her.
how all of that was wiped from his memory when he became dogday.
it took a moment for him to recover, clearing his throat gravely and speaking, “I…..I wanted to, I really wanted too, angel.” he whispered, stepping forward a bit, “but I didn’t want to drag you into something that I signed up for.”
he saw her step forward to him, subconsciously making his tail wagging. “I…..I didn’t want anyone else to get forced into this…..this change.” he motioned to his body, crossing his arms and holding them.
“I never wanted anything bad to happen to you,” he felt his voice crack slightly, his own emotions threatening to spill out.
the silence was almost deafening, seeing her face so full of sadness made him softly whimper, walking closer to her in a gentle and slow stride.
a sharp swallow, with a shaky breath, she finally spoke, “you know, all these years….i thought you had just forgotten about me,” she whispered, staring up at him when he met her in the middle.
she reached up to softly hold his face, dogday greatfully leaning into her palms as she rubbed his cheeks.
“you were always so full of life, so selfless, thinking about others before yourself….” he could feel his non-existent blush on his cheeks, listening tentatively as he raised his giant hands to hold the back of her hands.
“I would had done anything to keep you safe, angel.” he mumbled, rubbing her hands softly.
she let out a small laugh, sad and broken, “we could had just quit together,” she whimpered, “I would had convinced sean somehow, and we could had just brought the other kids along, layla, timothy, delilah, theodore-“ her sob finally came out, quickly bringing one hand to cover her mouth.
he saw her legs shake, and he took the chance to wrap his arms around her when she collapsed into him, holding her to his chest as she cried into him, “oh…..oh theo,” she sobbed, shaking and crying as she leaned into his chest.
he nods his head, giant hands rubbing her back softly, “I know, I know angel…” he spoke, staring at the ground solemnly.
there was a lot about this factory she had never known about, a lot to this factory she will see in the future. and he has sworn to be with her every step of the way.
but for now, she needed to not worry about the future, just the now.
she hiccuped and cried, seemingly rambling apologies up above to no one in particular.
dogday whines when he hears her apologizing, rubbing his face into her hair. “it’s not your fault, it’s not anyone’s fault….only the prototypes.” he tightens his hold subconsciously, before relaxing his grip.
“theo…..” she whimpered out, taking a deep a shaky breath, “do you think…..do you think they’re all somewhere nice? nicer then this? with an actual sky and clouds….playing together?”
a soft chuckle, dogday nodded his head against hers, “of course they are, and I’m sure they are looking down on you. giving thanks to how wonderful of a role model you were.”
she lets out a half sob with a gentle laugh mixed in. he really was still that same charming man that she knew before.
as she continued to cry into him, she pressed tightly against him, and mumbled out a soft sentence, “I missed you, jean.”
butterflies fluttered in his stomach, feeling a soft warm feeling arrive in his body. he let out a deep gentle laugh, brushing through her hair with the most soft touch, “I missed you too, angel.”

IM SORRY IF THE ENDING SUCKS AUGHHHH
part two of my last story here
c/w: she/her pronouns, implied child experimenting/employee experimenting ig, bigger bodies initiative snatches five kids and two adults (not clickbait), rushed ending
I tired my best to included the kids before they got turned into the smiling critters but AUGHHH
________
everyday was the same routine: wake up at six in the morning, freshen up, put on her work uniform, stick a breakfast sandwich in her mouth, kiss her mom goodbye, make her way to work, and get into the parking lot of playtime co. at around 6:45.
she wishes the playcare was more easily accessible, going from the toy train to the cart-ride while listening to the same automated introduction to playcare was starting to become irritating.
she basically had that whole thing memorized by now.
she sits in the trolly seat, looking out the tinted windows to the vast emptiness of the underground around them. why would they built this whole thing underground anyway? she even heard one employee share the same thought as her, she wonders if these kids even know of the outside world anyways.
these past few weeks have been the same, except a lot more children seemed to get adopted more. which is weird because she and the other employees around her never gotten informed when each kid would be picked up.
what’s even more weirder was that the kids never talked about getting adopted either. and these kids could not keep anything a secret.
even when she had to keep up with the rules of not interacting with the children, they just seemed to tell her and the other caretakers nearly everything that happened in their secluded lifestyle.
timothy was one of them. a hyper kid, always seemed to be getting some bumps or bruises (she started keeping a package of bandages after the third time he scrapped his knee), and never knew how to keep a secret.
he would run to of her, stop suddenly and give his one missing tooth smile, and point to some random kid saying, “they have a crush on that kid!” and run off with some other kids chasing after him, yelling incoherent nonsense about how he’s a ‘tattletale’ or something like that.
it was funny to watch, she would give a small smile as she watched the boys play fight, the girls act out some fairytale adventure, or some of the more reclusive kids either draw or play with toys to themselves.
timothy played with this girl, layla, who was just as hyperactive as he was. she was one of the rougher girls, but she loved secretly playing dress up with a few of her dolls she had in her shared room.
she remembered the little freckled girl pointing at her when she told her that ‘tippity top secret’, her cheeks puffed out and saying she better not tell anyone about her ‘soft side’.
kids were funny in many ways.
she remembered timothy sulking a bit when layla was adopted, pouting and sitting on the fake grass.
they hung out almost everyday, it was pretty sad to see him so bummed out over losing his best friend. she managed to sneakily talk to him about it, giving him words of comfort on how he’ll probably see her real soon.
that slightly made him perk up, especially when she slipped a small candy to him and put a finger to her mouth in a shushing motion. he giggled and gave his little grin, “maybe when I get adopted, me and layla can play all day long again!”
she hoped that was the case, as three days later, timothy was gone from the playcare.
she can’t help but feel a jab in her heart when the kids she talks to leave to get adopted. they were all so sweet and fun to watch and talk too.
especially two little girls who took decided they wanted to sit where she was watching the kids play.
delilah was this shy girl who spent most of her time drawing with markers, glitter, crayons and colored pencils. she would sit in the same spot theo sat before he left, silently drawing or politely asking for more colors.
the next girl was sophie, and that kid was a hugger. she would come to her everyday, her braids having different colorful clips then before, and give her leg a big hug.
she would babble on and on about how her school day was, seemingly never ending as the kid always had something to talk about. she would pick at the jewelry on the caretakers hands, asking where she had got it from and if she could get her one like that.
sophie would also talk to delilah too, and would join her on drawing whatever their little hearts desired.
the day delilah ran to her with pure excitement, was the same day she was destined to leave the playcare.
she was the only one that told the playcare employee that she was getting adopted. she excitedly talked the whole time she was there, explaining on how lovely the couple sounded when she heard of them. that was probably the most she ever heard her talk.
after delilah left, sophie hung around her a lot more, becoming more clingy when she had to leave.
she had to always reassure her that she was going to come back the next day. even when the kid latched onto her leg like a koala, she couldn’t fight back the smile on her lips.
sophie would always make her pinky swear she was going to come back. children and their ways of reassurance was always so cute.
she would lock pinkies with her, shaking them and giving the same repeated promise. sophie would look at her for a second, before smiling and hugging her tightly, saying how she can’t wait to see her the next day.
was this becoming a pattern?
each kid she interacted with was gone in the same couple of weeks. she was teased a bit by her other employees that she was cursed, but she jabbed back with how they were all in better homes anyway.
she remembers the last one, she never interacted with her as much as the other kids, but the girl was always holding some type of snack in her hands.
little percilla was always eating something, an apple, pb & j, she would always have some type of food on her face.
each of those kids had their own distinct personalities, and each made her heart ache even more when she never sees them in the playcare.
she gives a small sigh, the underground outside the windows no longer fascinating as it was the first three times.
the five minute way there felt like forever, the carts top speed seemed like five miles, so she decided to check her little phone for any new messages.
a few texts from her friends, her mom asking what should they eat for dinner, and exactly none from jean since two weeks ago.
she didn’t know why it hurt when jean stopped messaging her. maybe that new promotion took up all of his time? she didn’t see much of sean either, so she guessed that could be the case.
she didn’t want to bombard him with messages either, so she hadn’t text back since the last text he sent her.
she closed the phone and puts it in her pocket once he heard the end of the automatic announcement that played in the cart, the ride coming to a full stop.
she gets up and stretched her body, stepping out into the playcare as she makes her way to the consolers office to check in. the playcare was empty, except for a few employees here and there. the kids must be asleep still.
she pushes a strand of hair back, fixing any wrinkles in her clothes and pushes forth, hopefully to get some work done before she has to be out to watch the-
“Hello there!” that scream definitely didn’t come from her, that was definitely someone else.
she spun around to see who decided on scaring the ever living life out of her, but she was met with twelve feet of-what is that?
she stumbled back, nearly losing her footing and quickly regaining it, hands gripping her chest to calm herself as she looked up at the face.
the orange dog bent down slightly, a friendly smile on his face, “woah there, friend, I didn’t mean to knock you off your feet,” he spoke, the young women pushing her hair out of her face and sputtering out, “dog…..dogday?” she whispered, blinking in confusion.
she could see out of the corner of her eye his tail wagging, “yeah! that’s me! it’s nice to meet you….?” he drags out the sentence, waiting for her to finish with her name.
she stays silent with a confused look on her face before stuttering out her name.
he repeats it with joy, grabbing her hand and shaking it with excitement, “oh it’s so nice to meet you! I’ve just about said hi to every employee here and I’ve gotta say, you look amazing on this fine day-“ she let the dog ramble on while continuing to shake her hand, still staring at him in amazement.
the main question ringing in her mind: ‘how?’
and the other one: ‘why?’
she wasn’t unaware of elliot ludwigs determined goal to make the best toys, but even then….this seemed out of the realm of possibility for anyone to achieve.
the giant hand that shook hers felt soft, plush, and almost humanly warm. he even spoke so much like a person, making her think this was some guy in a suit.
but why was he so tall? he stands taller then everyone in this place! and the tail wagging behind him just made it so….realistic.
after about a full two minutes of handshaking and rambling, dogday finally let’s go of her hand (which her whole arm is now numb at that point) and waved a hand in front of her face.
“hello? you still in there, friend?” he asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
she blinked once, before clearing her throat, “uh…..barely.” she spoke, rubbing her arm as she backs away, “I…..gotta clock in.”
the hound tilts his head, before walking with her, “I’ll tag along, I’m not technically supposed to be out here anyway,” he waved his hand around nonchalantly, “but I wanted to say hi to everyone before the kids wake up.” he gave his cartoony smile.
she shook her head, giving him an awkward grin, “oh no, it’s fine, you can do-“
a large, purple tail wrapped around her legs, going softly around before she was face to legs with another 12 foot animal.
catnap, she remembered the name, looked down at her with a silent stare, tilting his head to look at her.
he pressed his face near hers, giving it a sniff before pulling away, and turning towards the orange dog.
“catnap! I’ve seen you met my new friend!” he exclaimed, tail seemingly wagging faster. the purple cat stayed silent for a moment, before nudging his head in a different direction.
a playful groan came from dogday, “come on, I was just trying to walk my friend to the office to get checked in!” he pressed his big hand to his chest, playfully puffing or out, “as the leader, it’s my duty to greet and help anyone I come across.”
catnap just tilts his head, still not saying anything as his tail moves to press him towards the direction he came from.
she watched as he had a one way conversation with the cat, giving them an awkward laugh as she waved her hand, “it’s fine, really, you guys should go, don’t…..want to get in trouble do you?”
they both turned towards her, both in silence before dogday nods, “only if you say so, friend” he smiles and waved at her, “I’ll see you in a bit, then!” he turned to walk away, his tail still wagging happily behind him.
catnap lingered on for a moment, staring at her silently.
she smiled and waved at him, “I’ll see you in a bit too, catnap.”
she turned to walk towards the counselors office, glancing at the time and noticing the kids will be awake in ten minutes. well, the paper work was going to have to wait then.
watching as she walked into the office, catnap stared at the spot she was at for a moment longer.
he then stretched his back, and turned around were his orange friend walked to wait for the kids to wake up.
