Numa terça-feira, dia 21 de setembro de 1982, há 40 anos, o corpo a princesa Grace de Mônaco era enterrado no jazigo da família Grimaldi. Sobre sua lápide, a inscrição em latim: “Grace Patrícia, esposa do Príncipe Rainier III, falecida no ano do Senhor, 1982”.

Hoje em dia, é raro encontrar o túmulo de Grace Kelly sem flores. Pessoas de todo mundo, que apreciaram o talento da atriz e passaram a amar a humanidade da princesa, prestam seus tributos à memória de alguém que soube imprimir com elegância e sensibilidade sua marca na história.

Grace Patricia Kelly (November 12, 1929 – September 14, 1982) was an American film actress who, after starring in several significant films in the early to mid-1950s, became Princess of Monaco by marrying Prince Rainier III in April 1956. She began an acting career in 1950 when she was all of 20, Kelly appeared in New York City theatrical productions and more than 40 episodes of live drama productions broadcast during the early 1950s Golden Age of Television. From 1952 to 1956 she starred in several critically and commercially successful films, usually opposite male romantic leads 25 to 30 years older than her. I was (and am) a big Grace Kelly fan. I regret that left she acting. I mean, I get it. Royalty and all. Her Hitchcock movies were probably my favorites. She was supposed to be the lead in Marnie. That would have been something to see. But she was stunning in all of her movies. The last movie I saw of hers was Dial M for Murder at the Aero. Such a great movie. Helen Rose | Wedding Dress for Princess Grace of Monaco | c. 1956 ・・・ Movie actress Grace Kelly, a Philadelphia native, wore this gown for her wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco on April 19, 1956. A gift from her studio, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the dress was designed by Academy Award–winning costume designer Helen Rose, who had created the star’s wardrobe for four films, including High Society and The Swan. MGM’s wardrobe department constructed it with meticulous care under strict security. In style and detail the dress was conceived to complement the bride’s fairy-princess image. The bell-shaped skirt of ivory faille, supported by three attached petticoats, fans out into a graceful lace train; the high-necked bodice of antique Brussels lace was re-embroidered to render the seams invisible and then accented with seed pearls. Lace embellished with pearls covers the accompanying prayer book, shoes, and cap, which is surmounted by a wreath of orange blossoms. The circular veil was designed specially so as not to obscure the bride’s famous face. Na manhã de 13 de setembro de 1982, a princesa Grace de Mônaco e sua filha, Stéphanie, pegavam a estrada de Roc Angel para Mônaco. Ela encheu seu Rover 3500 marrom com dezenas de malas, de modo que não sobrou espaço para o chofer da família, Christian Silvestari. Naquele ano, ela vinha sofrendo com fortes dores de cabeça e o motorista estava bastante preocupado em deixá-la dirigir sozinha. “Não é necessário”, disse Grace para o chofer, insistindo ela própria em conduzir o automóvel.

O caminho, por sua vez, era bastante sinuoso. Grace e sua filha deixaram a propriedade dos Grimaldi por volta das 9h30, pegando a rodovia 53, que tinha mais de cinquenta curvas. A princesa fez as primeiras manobras sem o menor problema, mas o caminhoneiro que vinha logo atrás dela, Yves Raimondo, percebeu que numa determinada parte do trajeto o carro pareceu perder o controle e andar em zigue-zague. Enquanto dirigia, Grace sentiu uma dor aguda na cabeça e, por um período de segundos, desmaiou. Quando recuperou a consciência, estava momentaneamente desorientada e fez o veículo mudou de rota.

Sem saber ao certo o que estava fazendo, Grace pisou no acelerador em vez do freio, exatamente na direção de uma curva fechada. O carro seguiu com toda a velocidade e caiu de um despenhadeiro. Stéphanie conseguiu sair ilesa, mas não sua mãe. Segundo o laudo da perícia, ela teve uma leve hemorragia cerebral enquanto dirigia. Quando o carro colidiu, ela sofreu um derrame provocado pelo impacto da batida. Stéphanie conseguiu sair do carro, gritando por socorro. Duas ambulâncias apareceram.

A princesa de Mônaco fora levada para o Hospital às pressas e, após a equipe médica fazer tudo o que estava ao seu alcance, concluiu-se que ela sofrera um dano cerebral irreversível. Sua vida estava sendo mantida por aparelhos. No dia 14, a família tomou a difícil decisão de desconectar as máquinas que mantinham os pulmões e o coração de Grace funcionando. Aos 52 anos, Sua Alteza Sereníssima fora declarada morta!
