This Is Perfection (RDR2 Fanfic, Javier x F!Reader, Biker AU, 18+)
This is part of the series Ride Through My Heart. Read the other parts here.
Summary: You are an intern at a photography studio, and lately you've been crushing on the male model that works with your boss. Javier is sex on legs and your eyes are drawn to him every time he's near. On top of his looks, he's also kind and funny, which made you doubly fall for him. Little did you know, he's had his eye on you too, for he knows your secret identity: a semi-popular cosplayer on the convention circuit.
Author’s Notes: Trying another Javier x F!Reader fic because he deserves love too. The title of this fic is yet another obscure lyric from a popular song, so try and guess! Also I’m not in the photography or modelling industry, so most of that stuff is just conjecture and internet research.
Tags: fluff, romance, gentle to passionate to rough sex, mild dirty talk, neck grabbing (but no choking), some use of a different language
AO3 Link is here, sweetheart.
Word Count: 4457

“See you next week, Javier.”
“Later Charles,” Javier threw over his shoulder as he left Charles’ cat café. He finished his latte, jaywalking across the two lane road to get to his bike. Bright red, his Ducati Streetfighter was his prized possession, his baby, his joy. When he wasn’t working, he loved to take his motorcycle to the nearby lake and ride around the backroads, enjoying the scenery.
But lately, he had no excuse to go out. He felt he had overbooked himself this month, running from one photo shoot to another. He had to sleep, had to eat properly and work out so that he looked his best, and that cut out practically all of his free time. Feeling the stress steadily creep up his spine and into his brain, his only breaks were his weekly meetings with his friends, which he could count as business since he was their marketing manager. Self-appointed, of course.
He only left Sunday for himself, which he had been using for personal and wardrobe maintenance. Javier was nothing if not meticulous about his look. He had to be, when it was the product he was selling. But lately, even his Sundays were being booked with side jobs.
He chucked the empty latte cup into the trash and got onto his bike. It was Sunday morning and he had once again broken his rule and picked up an extra gig at the beach by the lake. He almost hadn't taken the job, except that there was a lady working today that he absolutely wanted to see.
***
You were sitting inside a minivan with the sliding door open, cords coming out of your laptop and hooked up to a power strip, connected to an orange extension cord that was coming out of the visitor’s center. Your boss was testing shots by the new mural that had been painted on the retaining wall next to the beach. You had helped her set up most of the lighting gear already, so at this point, the two of you were just waiting for the model to arrive. While you had wanted to spend the weekend touching up your costumes for the convention next week, you also needed the extra money. It had nothing to do with that fact that the model for today was none other than the delightful (and very sexy) Javier Escuella.
Ever since you had started working with this modeling & photography company, you had done a lot of random work that wasn’t really related to your college degree. However, you learned a lot about the profession and discovered that the thing you really loved more than photography itself was the photo-editing.
While you were editing some of your personal photos, you heard the sound of a motorcycle pulling up. Looking over at the source of the sound, you watched as Javier pulled his helmet off his head and shook his hair out. As he took off his bandana and biker jacket, you made a mental note to remember this moment forever, his biceps revealed, his sleeveless shirt wrapped around his torso like a lover.
Then he looked at you and grinned. He had caught you staring. Again.
How many times in the past three months since he started to work with your company had he caught you staring? And how many times had he just grinned at you, knowing he had caught you?
Too many. Didn't he think you were a creep? And yet he still smiled.
“Hey you,” Javier said smoothly as he walked over to you, the slight sway to his hips taunting you. He was a natural-born model, his movement graceful as a cat and his charisma amplified by his seductive smile. Taking a seat next to you, the space between you two barely a hair’s breadth apart, he leaned over to look at your screen. “What are you working on?”
You quickly tried to shut the laptop, but just as quickly he stayed your hand. His hand was bigger than yours, encompassing and warm. His fingers, wrapped around yours, gently moved the laptop screen back up, and you couldn’t stop him, so enraptured by his touch.
Apprehensively you watched him as he looked at your latest shots of you in your almost completed costume. You swallowed. Maybe he wouldn’t recognize you? After all, you had your glasses on, a big beanie over your hair, and an oversized sweater. Your photo had so much more makeup on and a wig, perhaps he wouldn’t—
“Oh, I know this Insta account.”
You paled.
“I’m a big fan.”
"I'm editing for a friend–"
"Don't lie," he said softly. "I can tell it's you. I've known since I started working with you."
You squeaked.
He turned his blazingly glorious smile onto you, and you felt like the sun was shining straight into your eyes. While you were reeling from his admission, he continued to talk to you.
"You're going to that big convention next weekend, right?"
You nodded.
"Can I come?"
Shrugging as you tried to play it cool despite the slight tremor in your voice, you replied, "I'm not sure if tickets are still available, but I wouldn't stop you."
He leaned in a little closer. "What if I told you I already had a ticket?"
You gulped. "Re-really?"
Nodding, he stood up, giving you room to breathe. "I may not look like it, but I enjoy comics too."
Noticing that your boss was starting to head over, you quickly said, "please don't tell my boss about this. I don't want her to think I'm slacking or anything."
Javier smiled and winked at you. "Of course. Your secret is safe with me." He leaned down to look at you in the eyes, and you were mesmerized for a moment from the intensity. "Just promise me I get a photo shoot with you at the con."
You nodded, your head moving so fast that your glasses dipped down your nose.
He laughed as he casually reached down and moved your glasses back up, his fingers brushing against your temples.
"Then it's a date," he said as he walked away to greet your boss.
Grabbing your laptop and pulling it off the charger, you followed as they went to the shooting location, your heart pounding a million miles a second.
***
After the photo shoot, Javier traded his phone number with the lovely lady who had been the subject of his heated dreams as of late. He hadn't wanted to scare her; she always seemed so jumpy when he approached. But he always noticed the way she stared at him before he caught her eyes. The look she gave him was pure woman, and he craved more.
It wasn't just the looks that brought her to his attention. He started following her Instagram account a year ago when he was looking at last year's masquerade winners. Her smile, her energy, and her creativity drew him in. He had found himself liking all of her posts in a day, scrolling endlessly through her archive.
So when she had shown up at one of his photo shoots three months ago, he had been delighted. But she seemed shy and even denied that she had an Instagram account when he had asked her. He was even more surprised to find that she wasn't a model, but the photographer's intern.
At that time, he had let it go. She was clearly hiding it, clearly didn't want to draw attention to herself. But every time he got to work with her, he felt frustrated that she hid herself so carefully behind her wide rimmed glasses and oversized hoodies. Her cosplay photos were amazing, her smile brilliant, her makeup impeccable, her costumes were bold and full of color combinations that seduced his vision.
At the same time, having her hidden away made him feel a bit better about her safety. What kind of wolves would go after her if they knew how gorgeous she was under her baggy clothes?
As he slowly got to know her, his affection for her had only grown. With each job, he talked with her more and more, and she had opened up to him. While they hadn't traded phone numbers until now, he could say with a certain level of confidence that they were on good terms. Almost friends, really.
He couldn't wait for next week. He had gotten his Comic-Con ticket months ago and had been preparing on his own. Javier grinned under his helmet.
She was going to be so surprised to see him.
***
"Thanks for working today. I'll see you tomorrow."
"No problem, see ya later!"
Your boss waved as she went to her car and drove off. The two of you had dropped the company van back at the office, so now you had the rest of the day to yourself.
Getting into your car, you started it up, put your favorite music on…
And you promptly screamed in both excitement and anxiousness. You had a date with Javier. You. Had a date. With Javier.
You drove home, got to your apartment, and started working feverishly on the rest of your costume.
Next weekend had to be perfect.
***
You finished your make up and looked at yourself in the mirror. You had arrived at the convention center early and started getting ready in the bathroom as other cosplayers had begun to trickle in. For everything else in your life, you were unsure of yourself, constantly second guessing your choices and worrying if you were, in fact, wrong about everything.
But in this space, you felt strong. Confident. Because, despite the occasional hater in your comments, the majority of your feedback was positive. Besides, you were someone else when you put on your outfit. You were Star.Bright.909, a cosplayer with over a thousand followers. Not as many compared to the big name cosplayers, but you were proud of yourself for getting this far.
So when you came out of the restroom looking your best, the few gasps you heard were worth it. As you walked outside towards the photography area that had been set aside for cosplayers, you already had five people asking to take photos of you.
You smiled and posed and thanked everyone who wanted to take a photo. You were gracious and patient, even though you were trying to meet up with some photographers you had spoken with online. When you reached the small plaza, you met up with them and worked for the rest of the morning, posing as the photographers asked and networking with other cosplayers in the area.
Just as you were about to head off towards the lobby to check out the dealer's hall, a man walking through the crowd caught your attention. Dressed up in a skin tight lycra Spiderman outfit, you could tell immediately that his muscles were real. The way he moved was smooth, graceful, and awfully familiar, despite not seeing his face.
Wait.
It couldn't.
As he came closer to you, he bowed in a gentlemanly fashion and held out his hand.
"Hola, mi Estrella."
You squeaked. "Javier?"
"Just your friendly neighborhood Spiderman," he said, a teasing lilt to his voice. "Perhaps we could take a photo together?"
"Of course," you said, suddenly shy. A professional model wanted to take a photo with you. Granted, you knew Javier, but he was still a pro, while you were an amateur.
"Do you mind if I put my arm around you?" he asked politely.
"That’s fine," you said, your face warming.
He nodded and wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close for the photo. You grinned, channeling your happiness into your smile. Holding up the phone for a selfie, Javier took a few shots before taking a look at them to check their quality.
He still hadn't let go of you.
"Whoops, sorry," he said, finally letting go.
"It's okay," you quickly said. "I… I didn't mind."
He looked at you, but his mask prevented you from seeing his expression.
"Are you free now?" he asked.
"Yes, I'm free for the rest of the day." You had worked yesterday and some of today, but you always left the last half-day of any convention for shopping or panels.
Javier held out his hand and you gladly took it, letting him walk you back to the entrance of the convention center.
As the two of you walked past one of the hotels that lined the plaza, you saw the laces of one of your boots hit the ground.
"Hold on," you said as you stepped off the main path to tie it back.
Then you felt the splash of liquid come down on your head, the smell of alcohol pungent and seeping into your wig.
For a moment you were shocked. Then the overwhelming sense of frustration hit you and all you could do was stay still and will yourself not to cry. Not in front of Javier.
Warm hands touched your wet shoulders.
"Sweetie. Come on, let's get you changed. Can I escort you to your hotel room?"
You looked up at him, at his compassionate eyes, and you shook your head. “I drove here this morning.” You had driven here from your apartment, an hour away.
“Oh. I see.” He took your hand and began to lead you down the road, away from the convention center.
"Where are we going?"
"My hotel room, if that’s alright. Or would you rather go back to the convention hall?"
“You got a room?” you said in surprise.
He shrugged. “I have other business in the city tomorrow morning, figured it’d be easier to spend the night.”
“Oh, okay,” you said, unsure of what else to say.
“So… are you okay coming with me? I won’t do anything, I promise.”
“Yeah, let’s go.” You put your hand on his arm. “I trust you, Javier.”
He nodded and continued to walk with you. He was taking you to his bedroom. No ulterior motives, he just wanted to help you get clean.
But part of you really wished he had some ulterior motives.
***
“I’ll get you some extra clothes from my backpack,” Javier called out to you as he left you to clean up in the bathroom on your own.
You stared in the mirror; your make up was ruined, your wig would need an extreme clean up when you got home, and your costume was stained and reeked of alcohol. As you took off everything and tried to rinse out what you could in the sink, you counted yourself lucky that this had happened at the end of the convention rather than the beginning. At least you had all of your shots and you could maybe sell a few prints to make some of your cash back.
You showered and dried your hair as quickly as you could, not wanting to take up more of Javier’s time. He had left a shirt and shorts in front of the bathroom door for you, and you opened the door a crack to pull them inside, throwing them on. They were a bit loose on you, but that was a welcome relief, compared to the skin tight costume you had on earlier.
“Alright, I’m good,” you said as you exited the bathroom. Javier was lying on the bed, his legs still on the floor. His costume was unzipped to expose his torso, his arms up in the air as he was typing on his phone. Turning his head to you, he gave you a lazy grin before patting the bed next to him.
“Have a seat, I’m just finishing this post for Insta.”
You sat next to him and took in his body from up close. His abs were perfect; you wanted to run your hands down them to see how they’d feel under your fingers. He was lean, tanned, muscles, everything you lusted after.
“What do you think?”
You quickly looked up at him, as if he hadn’t just caught you staring at his body. He was holding out his phone, a picture of the two of you with your costumes. The caption said, Found my favorite cosplayer today! She graciously took a selfie with me, isn’t she wonderful?
You felt warm from his kind words. “You’re too nice to me,” you mumbled.
Javier laughed softly and sat up. “I like being nice to you.” He posted the photo and put his phone down. Turning towards you, he reached up and stroked your face with the back of his knuckles. “I just… like you.”
You swallowed. The fact that he was saying that now, with you wearing baggy clothes, your make-up gone, just being your unglamorous self, meant so much that you started to tear up.
“Did I say the wrong thing?”
“No,” you said between tears. “I like you too.”
He started to lean in for a kiss before he stopped. “May I?”
“You can do whatever you want to me,” you said without thinking.
A moment passed, his deep brown eyes searching yours. “Anything?” he finally said.
You nodded. Time to own up to your words, to your feelings that you had been denying for so long. “Yes.”
“Well, I’d rather do whatever we want with each other,” he said, smiling gently.
You leaned in and kissed him, surprising him and surprising yourself. Your hands rested on his chest and you gave in, exploring his toned body, his skin underneath your fingers, feeling warm and inviting to your touch. He pulled you into his arms and kissed you back, a passionate inhalation of your very spirit, as if he wanted to merge his soul with yours.
Soon he pressed you down against the mattress and kissed you for a few moments more before he pulled away. “Wait here for a few, I’m going to shower so I don’t smell like sweat and spandex. You deserve better than that.”
You laughed as he kissed your cheek and went to shower.
Laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, you managed to find your brain again. You, and he, were about to…
Your brain left again and you just grew warm between your legs. You wanted him so much.
In a daze, you didn't notice the sound of the shower turning off. You didn't notice the door open and close. You only noticed when he came back to the bed, wearing just a towel around his waist, smiling down at you. The tendrils of his black hair clung to his cheeks, still damp from the shower, as drops of water slid down his neck to his chest, drawing a line you desperately wanted to trace with your tongue. As your eyes moved lower, you noticed his towel wasn’t exactly hiding his desire for you.
"I've wanted you for so long, querida," he said, his voice like fingertips gliding down your spine as he stepped to the foot of the bed. Taking off your shirt and throwing it aside, he grabbed your breasts and kissed them, laving each nipple with his tongue before pinching and teasing you with his dexterous fingers until you were a writhing mess. You could feel your panties being soaked by your desire, and you shifted your legs, wanting to remove them.
Your movement attracted his attention, and he looked down at you. Reaching down to pull at the waistband of your (his) shorts, he pulled them off, revealing your beige panties.
“Aw, I thought you would have gone commando,” he teased as he tugged your underwear down your legs, his fingers caressing you along the way.
“They weren’t soaked with alcohol,” you mumbled.
“They’re soaked now,” he said with a cocky grin, tossing them aside. Then he placed a hand at each of your knees and spread your legs open, revealing your most intimate body parts to him. Licking his lips, he knelt down and pulled your hips to the edge of the bed.
The moment Javier’s tongue brushed against your core, you nearly came. He was hungry, so hungry, and ate you out like a man starved. With one hand he held you down, his fingers splayed out on your stomach and occasionally digging into your soft flesh while he slipped one finger inside of you, stretching you out slowly.
“Let me hear what I’m doing to you, baby,” he said before diving back in.
“Y-you’re, making me, feel really, good,” you managed to say between sharp intakes of breath.
“Bien, bien,” he praised, petting your belly. “Come on my tongue, querida, I want to taste your happiness.”
With that command, he slipped another finger inside of you and sucked hard on your center, his eyes on you as he drove your body into a heated frenzy, barely able to hold you down as you keened. Your hips undulated out of your control as the spiral unraveled and you let go, euphoria zipping up and down your body. You cried out wordlessly as you peaked and then fell, landing in a fluffy cloud of afterglow.
“Oh my god, Javier,” you breathed. “That was amazing.”
“Who said we were done?”
You lifted your head up just in time to see his teasing grin as he stood up.
And he dropped his towel.
Your lust went through the roof; you were so ready for round two.
His hands on your knees, he pushed them up to your shoulders.
“Hold your legs open for me.”
You willingly obeyed.
Javier cupped your cheek and leaned down to kiss you, the taste of your release still lingering on his lips. You felt him nudge you open, his length sliding inside of you as the two of you shared a moan, swallowed up by each other’s kiss.
He continued to kiss you as he slowly pressed forward until his hips were flush with yours.
“You feel like heaven,” he said as he leaned back so that he was standing over you, his cock deep inside of you, your hips barely on the edge of the bed. He gripped your waist, his hands warm in contrast to the cool hotel air. Slowly sliding out of you until only the tip of him remained, the only warning you got was the feel of his fingers digging into you before he slammed back into you.
“Oh my god!” you yelped.
“Too much?” he asked, looking a little worried.
“Keep going, please,” you begged. “I want it hard!”
“Oh yes,” he moaned before going all out, letting loose all of his lust for you as he fucked you in a frenzy. He fell upon you, crushing you into the mattress as he wrapped a hand around your neck. “Like this, baby?”
“Yes!” you breathed out, your voice cracking. “More, more!”
Javier’s eyes lit up as he pulled out of you and picked you up effortlessly, tossing you into the center of the bed and rolling you onto your stomach before climbing up onto the bed. You felt his length sliding along the curve of your ass before he lifted your hips up slightly and mounted you from behind, moaning softly.
“You’re perfecto,” he whispered into your ear when he covered you with his body and began to fuck you from behind, his hand wrapping around your neck again. You could feel the brush of his hair along your skin as he rutted into you, his deep sounds of pleasure echoing in your ears.
His long fingers found their way to your clit. One stroke and you flinched, still sensitive from your last climax. He didn’t show you any mercy; the hand around your neck tightened, his legs trapped yours in place, and his fingers found your core once again, stroking you oh so perfectly. The pressure from his touch was just right, the feel of his breath against your ear as he slipped into another language to tell you how much he coveted you.
Javier’s head pressed against your temple. “Give me everything, baby. I want you so much.”
His words, his touch, his absolute possession of your body made your release so much stronger this time around. You cried out his name as pure pleasure rocketed through your bloodstream, a high better than any drug. His hips kept pumping as you spasmed beneath him, wringing out every last gasp and moan from you until you were shaking with the aftershocks.
“Let me make a mess of you,” he growled.
“Yes, please,” you said mindlessly, willing to do whatever he asked.
He pulled out of you and rolled you onto your back. Straddling your waist, he took your hand and wrapped it around his cock. You stroked him rapidly, watching his eyes burn with ecstasy, his breathing grow heavier as he reached his peak. Reaching for his balls with his other hand, you fondled him gently, looking up at him with a smile.
That flipped a switch, as he reached for your neck again, his other hand wrapping around yours to apply more pressure to his cock as he came, spilling himself all over your breasts. He moaned your name as he finished, looking at you in complete awe.
“Fuck,” he breathed, letting go of your neck and hand as he fell to one side and rolled to face you. “I haven’t come like that in forever.”
Looking at his satisfied face, you couldn’t help but wonder if this was just a one time deal or if this was the start of something, you weren’t sure what.
You must have looked concerned, because he frowned, his brow wrinkled with concern. “What’s on your mind?”
“Um, I… never mind,” you quickly said, deciding not to voice your thoughts.
He leaned in, placed both his hands on your cheeks, and squished your face a little. “Please tell me.”
With his gaze so intensely close to you, you spoke without filtering. “Is this a one time deal? Or can we be… something more?”
He stopped squishing your cheeks, but he kept his hands on your face. Kissing your forehead, then your nose, then your lips, he smiled at you. “I want something more. Do you?”
You nodded enthusiastically.
“So let’s try."
You couldn't help the grin that broke out on your face.
"That's the smile I fell for," he said, smiling back. As he tried to pull you close, you pushed on his chest.
"I'm sticky."
Javier just laughed. "Let's take a shower then." He cupped your cheek and kissed you again, his lips lingering on yours before he pulled back to gaze into your eyes. The way he looked at you pulled at your heart, while his next words made you happier than you had ever been.
"You're the brightest star in my life."

come and find me~
“It’s been a while! I have something for you.”
It was only a quick v-live today, just long enough to get the word out. Kyuu had spoken to his manager earlier in the week, and while he knew that the rest of his group had been enjoying the downtime while it lasts, it was close to torture for him. In the last few weeks it had become painfully apparent just how much he relied on PS for support beyond his immediate network of friends and group members. Everything he did, he did it for PS. To read their comments online, to hear them cheering for him at concerts, and to look into their eyes and hold their hands at fan events. So far, he’d mostly used his free time to focus on himself. Sure, he had pushed out a little bit of content, but it wasn’t enough. That’s where the next idea came in.
“I’ve missed you, hello~ Yes, yes I have something exciting for you. It’s going to be happening very soon. Can you guess what it is?”
Already, Kyuu was feeling a warmth that was slowly moving through his body as he read all of their curious comments, PS trying to guess what he would be doing. Of course, mixed between were various comments telling him that they love him, asking where the other members were, and asking for shout outs for various countries and birthdays. It was his pleasure to oblige on occasion, straight after reading a plethora of KYUU NOTICED ME!!!! comments. This is what he lived for. Literally. After letting them guess what he would be announcing for a minute or two, the idol pretended to rummage around in his shirt, humming as he searched before pulling out the painfully obvious finger heart, followed by a very cute laugh and a wink.
“I’m only joking! I always have hearts for PS, so that isn’t a surprise. The thing I wanted to tell you about, is that tomorrow at ten am on our Instagram, I’m going to be having a competition! I’ve tried to make it as fair as possible, but it’s kind of a work in progress so please bear with me~”
Pausing for another moment, Kyuu scanned the chat to read the excitement of the fans, watching them all speculate over what he was going to be doing.
“I will be posting a picture to Instagram with a question for you, one that only PS should know the answer to. For ten minutes our DMs will be turned on, and you can send your answer to us, along with a brief comment about why you want to win the prize... Are you ready to find out what that is?”
Another pause for dramatic affect, allowing PS to build excitement. Before he spoke again, he banged gently on the table like a drum roll.
“The prize is going to be drawn randomly for fifteen lucky PS. Which will be a meeting and a meal with me~ As well as the other lucky winners, of course. I suppose the title of this v-live isn’t correct, since you won’t really be finding me, but we’ll be telling you where I am.”
There was a bright smile across his face as he watched the chat go wild. Both with positive and negative comments. As predicted, there were the international fans who felt slighted by the Korea based competition. There had been some PS kind enough to translate parts of what Kyuu had been saying, which he was thankful for.
“For those of you not eligible for the prize, I haven’t forgotten about you! If you are a winner and you aren’t able to attend the meeting, please let us know if you’ve been chosen. What we will do instead is, when it’s released, send you a signed copy of twentytwenty’s next album. Hopefully this will brighten your days, too. Please do know it won’t be me personally messaging on Instagram, it will be some of our staff so make sure you are extra kind to them.”
For the next few minutes, Kyuu continued talking to the PS in the chat, telling them about his days during the month that had been uncharacteristically quiet for them. When he could he tried to reply to some English comments, in English himself. He told them about his dance cover of La La La and learning with Fantizy’s Yuri, and he promised he’d been resting and eating well. They told him he looks healthy, and the truth is that he kind of does feel it too. As bored as he is, he wakes up feeling refreshed, and goes to sleep feeling content. Not to mention he knew that when he finally went back to work, they would be using his own choreography to promote their comeback. Overall he felt... Content, and he was sure he would feel even better after the competition.
“Okay, I’m so sorry but I need to go! I have plans, but I will hopefully be seeing some of you tomorrow. Goodbye for now, I love you.”
And with his last few hearts to PS, he turned off the v-live, filling with excitement as he thought about the next day.
****************
It was funny to think about, Minkyu wasn’t sure if he’d ever put as much effort into a real date as he had done with the event he was hosting today. Well, he thought that this could be considered a date too, in a sense. He was the Nation’s Boyfriend, inviting someone ( people ) to share in a fully paid for meal with him. Even if it wasn’t a romantic date, it was a similar gesture, and he couldn’t deny the excitement that was bubbling in the pit of his stomach. While it had only been announced yesterday, this is something he’d been planning for much longer.
According to his manager, organizing this with the fans online had been surprisingly easy, and out of the random, lucky PS that were drawn to win, there were about twenty that were unable to attend and were going to be sent signed albums in the future. He was assured they were all very excited to meet him, and they’d been sent a small list of rules to follow. They were simple things like the place and times of the event, not crowding around Kyuu, being courteous of other fans also attending, no video recording, and no intimate actions like asking for kisses or about invasive topics. His manager would be there the whole time, and there would also be security at the door... Just in case.
While the whole restaurant was booked out for a few hours for them, there was a private room that Kyuu was waiting in until everyone showed up. He knew it would be awkward if he sat there as they trickled in one by one, especially since, as predicted, some of them were showing up early. At one o’clock they were finally let inside, and within minutes all fifteen were seated, with obvious seats vacated for Kyuu and his manager to join them. There were some at either side of the table, so he could try to spread his time between everyone equally. At the very least, there was going to be opportunities for photos and hugs later, so there would be a chance for all the winners to get their own personal experience with him.
The idol could hear the quiet chatter of some PS mingling with each other, excitement so thick in the air you could almost see it. Which, he tried to get a peek out of the private room door, peering out of a crack he’d made. It was about two seconds before the Nation’s Boyfriend was spotted by a keen eyed fan, a gasp escaping from some of the girls at the table who had seen him.
Peeking his head out of the door a little more, he offered a small finger wave at them, and a quiet greeting of “hi~”. Shyly, they all greeted him back, offering their own waves and versions of hello and thank you. Some of them even began tearing up, hands covering their faces to hide how emotional they were. Once he’d stepped out from the room fully and closed the door behind himself, he offered the fans a bow in a proper greeting. “Hello, I’m Han Minkyu, twentytwenty’s performance leader, it’s nice to meet you~” He was grinning from ear to ear as he spoke, his manager watching close by with a keen eye to make sure everything was going the way it was supposed to.
“It's my pleasure to invite you here, thank you for coming. I’m so excited to get to know you, and I promise I’m going to find the time to speak with each of you.” As he spoke, he finally made his way over to the vacated seats of the table, bowing once more before he pulled it out to sit down with them. The girl that had been lucky enough to choose the seat next to his looked like she too was about to cry, even more so when he made eye contact with her. The idol asked her for her name, and shook her hand gently with his the sweetest grin imaginable, squeezing her fingers between his own and kindly assuring her he wasn’t worth crying over. But, if she did cry, it was perfectly okay.
Continuing his way around the table and flashing smiles at everyone as he went, he briefly asked them about themselves, leaning forward to show that he was listening intently, and that his entire focus was on them in that moment. It was just a little something to break the ice before their meals arrived and they could ask him questions and speak to him if they so wished. Some of the guests were perfectly fine speaking to him, some of them weren’t, becoming even more emotional when his words were directed at them.
The next hour or so was... Fun. The questions he was asked were actually well thought out, once the atmosphere had settled down no one else cried, and they were all courteous of him changing seats once their meal was over so that he could spend some time with those at the other end of the table. Plus, there was going to be some sweets after if they wished to indulge. Only the best when you’re on a date with the Nation’s Boyfriend.
Eventually it was time to start wrapping up, and as sad as Kyuu was about it, he had been looking forward to it. Only because he knew this would be the time where he could spend one on one time with PS. At the end of the day, the hard work he puts in, the late hours and early mornings, and the clothes saturated with sweat after he pours his heart and soul into his practice. It was all for them. To have them look at him with hopeful, bright eyes, telling him that he’d made a difference in their lives. The fame and the money was nice, but that’s what it was really about. It was about them.
Hearing that they cared for him, that they wished for him to stay safe and healthy, and that they were proud of him always hit in a way that was unexpected. Something about hearing it from PS never failed to make his neck and his ears heat up. Almost like it felt intimate. Perhaps, he was craving those words of approval from a loved one more than he thought.
Now isn’t exactly the time to go into it.
Another of the young girls stepped forward once he was finished saying goodbye to the person before her, leaving her with a selfie of them for a memory of their time together. Opening his arms, he allowed her to embrace him, his body hunching over just a little with the action because of how much shorter than him she is. “Hello, Hyun-mi, isn’t it?” He grinned as he pulled back, taking both of her hands in his own “Thank you so much for entering, and thank you for coming. I hope you had fun. I hope I lived up to your expectations~” The last sentence was spoken with a bright smile and a laugh, clearly a joke. Although, this particular PS had something to say about it.
“Kyuu-oppa, you’ve been very busy. I hope you had enough rest during your break, you really deserve it.” The young woman paused, squeezing his fingers back. “You need to take care of yourself, because all we want is for you to be healthy and happy, and you can’t be those things if you’re exhausted. Please promise you’re not working too hard.” The idol swallowed thickly with the words, another quiet chuckle leaving his lips. It was an attempt to hide the action of breaking eye contact and looking down at his shoes for a moment, trying to brush off what she was saying as if it were something casual, and not like the words were digging into his core like knives.
The sentiment that health and happiness is more important than success and perfection is still a concept that’s foreign to Kyuu. His entire life it's been forced upon him, if you don’t succeed then you’ve wasted your time, and you simply didn’t try hard enough. Anything can be achieved with hard work, determination, and talent. The idol prided himself on having all three of those attributes. So, if he isn’t perfect, who’s fault was it really? If he’d practiced longer and harder, perhaps he would have been better. Perhaps he would have been the leader and not the performance leader. Perhaps he wouldn’t be stuck in a group with twelve other boys, overshadowed and constantly fighting for the spotlight.
The doubts in his mind can sometimes be debilitating, words echoing through his head with the voice of his mother. There were often times where he didn’t want to get out of bed, he just wanted to sleep for another hour and enjoy the comfort and warmth before he headed outside to their practice room. Again and again, day after day.
As miserable and drained as he often felt, it was his job to assure her of the exact opposite.
“Thank you so much for caring about me, I truly appreciate it,” the Nation’s Boyfriend responded in a soft tone, a hand coming up to gently cup the side of Hyun-mi’s cheek as he once again looked into her eyes. “I promise you I have been resting well.” He hadn’t. “And I promise you I am eating well, and that I am very happy.” He isn’t. “Being with you all today has made sure of that. PS, people like you, have filled me with enough happiness to last a life time. As long as I have you all cheering for me, everything I do is worth it.” Perhaps, that part was somewhat true.
Another hug was exchanged along with a selfie, and if you squinted you could possibly see the way his watery eyes glistened with the lights from the restaurant. Some would say they were sparkling because he was so handsome. Kyuu knew better than that.
More thank yous and goodbyes were given, the twentytwenty member consoling some fans who were becoming upset once again. Before he knew it, it was over. The restaurant staff were moving the tables and chairs back to their rightful homes, and his manager was telling him it’s time to go. After a thank you to all the staff that served them that day, Kyuu gathered his things and did as he was told, getting into the car that was waiting for them outside.
If anyone asked, it had been a fun, lighthearted day, a way to give back to some fans with some of his spare time. In reality, he knew it was going to keep him awake at night, causing him to stare into the dark abyss of his room, thinking over and over again about the kind words he’d heard today, and the way he would cling to them for dear life whenever he started to doubt if this was worth it.
Han Minkyu had organised a special day to give back to PS, but maybe he was the person who needed it the most.

Surfer Billy Kemper glimpsed at death after wave slammed him into a rock
New Post has been published on https://appradab.com/surfer-billy-kemper-glimpsed-at-death-after-wave-slammed-him-into-a-rock/
Surfer Billy Kemper glimpsed at death after wave slammed him into a rock
“Knocked me out unconscious. Collapsed my lung. My pelvis was broken down the middle, I had to get my knee reconstructed, the injury-list goes on and on,” adds the 30-year-old surfer as he details the impact on his body. “It was straight up life or death.”
Kemper says there was a brief moment of calm before the impact last year, a period of peace inside the wave, when he couldn’t even tell which way was up. And then, the visceral experience of life’s fragility.
“I was just hyperventilating and blacking out through the pain, you can’t forget pain that much.”

Surfing ‘Jaws’
Kemper says that he never feared the waves: “I was on a surfboard months before I could walk, I was basically, you know, born into the ocean.”
Close to big-wave surfing icon Laird Hamilton, who Kemper refers to as his “Uncle” though they are not blood relations, and growing up on Maui, Hawaii’s second largest island, surfing has always been in Kemper’s blood.
“Part of the culture of being raised in Hawaii and being raised on rock surrounded by ocean is that there’s never a fear.”
While some people might develop their love for a team or a sport by being taken to a game at an early age, Kemper’s equivalent of The Staples Center or the Los Angeles Lakers was geologically sculpted and just a couple of miles away.
The most feared wave in the world, towering at up to 60 feet and known as “Jaws,” because it resembles the mouth of a shark, was practically on his doorstep.
“We would watch it like a kid watching The Lakers,” he said.
Comparing himself to a young fan hoping to get his basketball signed by Kobe Bryant, there Kemper was, with his surfboard, making plans for the rest of his life.
“‘Mom, Dad’,” he’d say, “One day I’m going to surf ‘Jaws.’ And they just laugh at me, like ‘yeah right.'”
He was serious though; now aged 30, Kemper is regarded by many as the best big-wave surfer in the world. According to the World Surf League CEO Erik Logan “he consistently pushes the realm of what is possible in his continuous pursuit to travel to the world in search of the most ferocious storms and biggest waves.”
Among numerous other accolades, Kemper is the 2018 big-wave world champion and a four-time “Jaws” event winner, considered the most prestigious prize in the sport.
He’s an accomplished surfer at every level, but he’s a rare breed of surfers — around a dozen of them — who eschew the speed, precision and creativity of the regular WSL Tour for the blood and thunder of the biggest waves on the planet.
“Billy’s accomplishments as a professional surfer indisputably show he is one of the world’s best big-wave surfers,” adds Logan.
When asked to describe the feeling of standing on top of a mountainous wall of water, Kemper compares it to looking out of the window of an eighth-floor apartment. He struggles to articulate the feeling without using an expletive.
“I don’t know exactly what words I’d put it into that would be good for camera talk,” he smiled. “Just, like, everything in the world is blocked out for that one moment. I’m just literally living in the moment. Proud and present.”

‘Strike missions’
Kemper was riding a wave of momentum through 2019 and early 2020 when he decided to make his fateful trip to Morocco. It was a trip that ended as it had begun, in a hurry. But the mood on the way out was very different to his palpable excitement and anticipation on arrival.
“It was at the end of my season last year and the Northern Pacific just started to fall apart,” Kemper said. “There just wasn’t the swells I was looking to see.”
For some time, he’d been drawn to the idea of surfing the coast off Morocco in North Africa and it seemed as though the stars were aligning.
“One evening I was looking at all the swells across the world and I see this absurd storm moving through the Atlantic Ocean,” he said.
He immediately contacted his buddies and the World Surf League to see if they’d be interested in tackling the waves and documenting it on film.
“This one just looked monumental,” he enthused, “It looked a lot bigger and stronger than most swells that you see in that ocean.”
Surfers refer to such adventures as “strike missions,” they’re planned at the last minute and the flights are booked with just 24 hours to spare, ensuring that the surf really is going to be worth the effort.
“If the forecast isn’t well and conditions aren’t good then we won’t pull the trigger,” Kemper noted.
In February, the strike team of Kemper, surfers Koa Smith, Luke Davis and filmmaker Arénui Frapwell arrived in Morocco, where they met up with Billy’s friend, the local surfer Gerome Sahyoun.
He knew immediately that the hype was justified
“We surfed a handful of waves up and down the coast and there were probably some of the best waves I’ve ever witnessed in my life. It was truly the trip of a lifetime until the absolute worst happened.”

Broken pelvis
Kemper says he has known death but isn’t scared of it. At the age of just eight, he was mourning his brother and his mother died more recently of cancer.
What he does fear, though, is the thought of not seeing his own four children again. As a surfer, he doesn’t fear the water, but he certainly respects it. “I’m by no means a master of the ocean, I always bow to the ocean.”
As his broken body lay floating in the frothing waters off the coast of North Africa, the reality of his new situation rapidly came into focus.
“I knew what I had gotten myself into, I just didn’t know how truly serious it was,” he said. “Anyone who’s ever broken their pelvis in half can relate to this. You’re definitely not just going to walk up the beach.”
Kemper says he owes his life to the friends who immediately rushed to his aid in the water and got him to safety. He was transported to the harbor on a jet ski, where an ambulance was waiting.
Of all the gory details he can recall more than a year after the dramatic event, it seems that this is still one of the rawest: “Even the ambulance ride felt like the worst pain ever. Every speed bump, every bump, the center of your body just opening up and releasing blood.”
“Most people lose half their blood count,” he said, speaking of his pelvis break. “You’re going to need transfusions.” He gestures with his hands to demonstrate his internal wound geysering blood at every bump in the road. “It’s a pain you can’t describe.”

‘Without surfing, I am not Billy’
After a few days in hospital, Kemper and his team realized they were facing more problems. Firstly, how to navigate a journey of more than 13,000 kilometers back to the US for emergency trauma surgery.
“I was in a state where I couldn’t fly on a commercial plane, I couldn’t fly business class,” Kemper said. “With a pelvic break that bad, you can’t leave a stretcher. Any bit of movement, you’re just opening up that break to create more internal bleeding.”
More pressing, however, was the looming Covid-19 crisis, which meant that international borders were being slammed shut all along their escape route home.
Having leaned on his community of family, friends and sponsors to help raise the funds for an emergency medevac flight, they were now in a race against time.
“It was literally just happening on the minute,” he recalled. “It wasn’t even like tomorrow, or this day, it was like ‘Oh no! They shut down. They shut down. They shut down!’ We’re trying to beat them to the punch just to get an entry onto US soil.”
Not only was Kemper desperate to see his family, but he also knew that the best medical care was at home, and it was treatment that was essential if he was ever going to compete on a surfboard again.
When they finally did make it back, Kemper was immediately rushed into trauma surgery by a doctor who’d been specifically researched by his team.
But even then, the road to recovery was a long one; months of grueling rehabilitation and the longest period of his life spent on dry land.
“I’d be pretty surprised if there was an athlete that outdid what I did in the five, six months I was up in California,” Kemper said.
He moved in with “Uncle” Hamilton and his wife Gabrielle Reece, and focused intensely on recovery, physical therapy and training. He details 11-hour days, seven days a week and reflects that the experience was probably a “blessing in disguise.”
“What I learned last summer was probably more knowledge than I ever would have [acquired] without going through this injury,” he said.
“It was beyond anything I thought I’d ever go through and I needed a few months to mentally prepare myself and heal my mind.”
When the time came to climb back onto a surfboard again, Kemper says it felt like a rebirth.
“It was like the first wave of my entire life over again, it brought back the emotions of being a kid. This is why I’ve sacrificed so much; this is why I’ve worked harder than anyone, this is the reason why I belong here,” he said.
“Surfing is who I am. Without surfing, I am not Billy.”

How We Chose The Winners

The Songbay Lyric Writing Competition: How We Chose The Winners
The winners of the 2020 Songbay Lyric Writing Competition were announced at the end of last year. The standard was incredibly high and the process of choosing the winners, from a short list of over a hundred and fifty, was a challenge! In this blog post, we reveal some of the thought processess of the judges. We’ll also be sharing the winning and commended entries throughout this article in case you missed the announcements last year. Perhaps this information may even help you with your preparations for our 2021 contest later in the year!
This year’s competition was organised and managed by Justine Perry, a freelance professional lyricist and writer. She currently manages Songbay’s Lyric Improvement Service
Our judges were Gary Cubberley, Chris Porter, Olga Wells, and Justine Perry. Their musical backgrounds are impressively diverse. From film composing, songwriting, musical theatre, lyric writing and opera, to music production, TV/ Radio commercials, arranging, recording, mixing, mastering, session singing, vocal coaching and instrumental teaching. The Songbay creative team has some very high profile clients-  Kasabian, Keane, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran, Gary Barlow, INXS, Nick Cave & The BadSeeds, Patti Labelle, John Lee S-Club 7, Jamie Cullum, West One Music, Faye Tozer Steps, Amy Pearson, Gareth Gates and Dagny (to name a few).
There were some great prizes on offer, the winner-Mandy Vinson, had her lyric turned into a fully completed song by our expert songwriting team using our Lyric to Song service >>  Whilst our runners up, received free use of our Lyric Improvement Service.
Commended Entry:
(Isaac Gray with lyric Swept Away  View Lyric)
The challenge was to write a lyric incorporating three random words – ‘flamboyant’, ‘ramble’ and ‘hope’.  No easy! Trying to make the words interconnect within a strong lyric way was a serious challenge.
Commended Entry:
(Songs4Singers with lyric He Will Live Forever  View Lyric)
So how did we choose our winners?
Here are some comments from the judges that provide a little insight into the selection process.
Commended Entry:
(Ward Lane with lyric Remember View Lyric)
“Some lyrics immediately stood out.  I tried to put my personal preferences aside and pick the lyrics that were strongest in terms of storytelling and emotional connection, technique, and how well the lyrics lent themselves to music” Justine Perry
Commended Entry:
(Plasma Baby with lyric Drift Away  View Lyric)
“I went for lyrics where the three required words were used most naturally, that also displayed originality, imagery, and poeticism. Essentially, I asked myself, did the lyric move me emotionally; could I imagine this in a song? I tend to be drawn to the ambiguity, where a word can mean different things to different listeners, whilst still making sense from a variety of viewpoints. There were some lovely lyrics that achieved this, I chose those that seemed the most creative and original.” Olga Wells
Commended Entry:
(Ceciliya with lyric Flamboyant Art  View Lyric)
“I tend to look at lyrics from more of a ‘music-writing’ perspective, i.e. could I see the lyric actually working as a song? For me, I like clarity and simplicity. This creates a clearer message for listeners and much stronger ‘hook lines’ that I can then reinforce musically. Additionally, I’m looking for scansion and implied rhythm – this makes any songwriter’s job much easier.” Chris Porter
Commended Entry:
(Brett Hunt with lyric Buffett  View Lyric)
“I looked for lyrics that had a clear story, that resonated on an emotional level that I could also envisage working well in song format, i.e. lyrics that could easily transfer to songs with regard to rhythmic flow, hook lines, and naturally contrasting emotional sections. From a songwriting perspective, I tend to interpret the emotions displayed in the lyric as the basis for my musical harmonic (chord) progressions, and the storyline as the song’s melody. With this in mind, I was really looking out for lyrics that displayed strong emotion and story-telling qualities.”  Gary Cubberley
4th Prize Winner
(Maria Teresa Guzman with lyric Tomorrow Without Me View Lyric)
Interestingly, since each judge approached the task from his or her own professional background and musical ideology, their choices and comments were remarkably similar. Four entries were particularly noteworthy, chosen as winners by three of the four judges. It is interesting to note that all the judges placed a great deal of emphasis on the ability of a lyric to transfer to music, something that is often overlooked by inexperienced lyricists.
3rd Prize Winner
(Sheena Hope with lyric The Fire View Lyric )
We received some submissions that used the three required words ingeniously. However, these did not make the short list due to their complexity or length. Essentially we were looking for lyrics, not poems, and this was overlooked at times. We also detected an emphasis to impress rather to create a lovely lyric- a sort of a paradoxical trap of lyric competitions!
A good lyric is not the same as a good poem and a bad lyric is not the same as a bad poem. Often the two are confused. Inexperienced lyricists, sometimes forget the purpose of a lyric, i.e., to work with a song, to create the feeling, to create memorable hook lines, to enhance rhythmic potential, to work with music and harmony to form a symbiotic relationship. Some of the entries reviewed took the form of intellectual poems, it was difficult to envisage these working in song format.
These very same considerations are examined in our Lyric Improvement Service. Launched last year, it is a cost effective way of improving your lyric and writing skills, helping with all aspects of lyric writing, from improvements in word choices, to working with rhythm and melody. Find out more here: Lyric Improvement Service >>
2nd Prize Winner
Martin Hampton with lyric Good Grace and Hope View Lyric
Our first-prize winner was offered free use of our Lyric to Song Service. This service was launched last year to help Songbay lyricists create completed songs from their lyrics. It can be difficult to break into the music industry as a lyricist alone – most publishers do not accept ‘lyric-only’ submissions, whilst others will want to hear some examples of your lyrics in song format. Find out more here: Lyric to Song service >>
1st Prize Winner
Mandy Vinson with lyric Watching  View Lyric
WATCHING BY MANDY VINSON Verse 1: I watch her with her paper and pen Jotting notes and doodling She looks at me with her flamboyant eyes Points at her book with a big ole smile Says, hey mom, I’m just like you I’m doing this, just like you do
Chorus: There are times when I feel like giving up I get let down and times get tough When I feel I can’t reach my calling I’m reminded, there’s someone watching
Verse 2: I watch him as he tightens his strings Strums down slow to find the perfect ring I ask him what he’s trying to play He says not sure yet, but someday I hope, to play just like you Hes watching, everything I do
Chorus: There are times when I feel like giving up I get let down and times get tough When I feel I can’t reach my calling I’m reminded, there’s someone watching
Bridge: Even when my mind starts to ramble And all my strings become untangled I’ll work hard, fight and push through Because my loves, live life as I do
Chorus: There are times when I feel like giving up I get let down and times get tough When I feel I can’t reach my calling I’m reminded, there’s someone watching There’s someone watching My kids are watching
Our winner Mandy received the fully produced version of our Lyric to Song service >>. Our latest songs created through our Lyrics to Music Service can be heard here >>
The Songbay Lyric Writing Competition 2021 will launch in September. So if you have any ideas for this year’s challenge? We’d love to hear your thoughts, we’re @Songbayteam on Twitter and @songbaylicensing on Instagram.

UIA2021RIO – New Hybrid Format Ensures Global Reach and Access
This year’s UIA2021RIO World Congress of Architects—the planet’s largest international gathering of architects—will combine virtual sessions with live, on-site events. Given the varied and ever-changing travel restrictions across the world, Congress participants who cannot be in Rio de Janeiro will now be able to enjoy full access to a virtual Congress, including presentations by eminent speakers, live ceremonies, multiple seminars and workshops, exhibitions, design competitions, film series, and many other digital and live events.
“Combining digital broadcasts with live events allows us to maintain the scope and magnitude of the Congress, while greatly expanding access to its content,” said Sérgio Magalhães, president of the Congress executive committee. “The digital and physical worlds have become contiguous and complementary,” added Thomas Vonier, president of the International Union of Architects, noting that “the hybrid format will enrich the Congress, with digital broadcasts from March onward, and live, in-person events from July 18 – 22 in Rio.”
In the months leading up to the Congress, international speakers and seminars will delve into the Congress theme All the Worlds. Just One World. Architecture 21. The month of March will focus on the sub-theme, Weaknesses and Inequalities, with discussions on social inclusion, definitions of the urban periphery, and a spotlight on favela architecture. The Congress will take up additional sub-themes in subsequent months.
According to Nivaldo Andrade, IAB (Institute of Architects of Brazil) Vice President of Relations UIA2021RIO, “the Executive Committee, together with its partners and stakeholders, has done its utmost to create the most outstanding World Congress of Architects in recent times”. He adds that a parallel digital programme is the best way to ensure access to valuable content for all.
The underlying themes of the Congress – the quest for solutions leading to a fairer and better-balanced world – address the major issues facing humankind and the planet, demonstrating how architecture and urban design can help to improve society and the environment.
17 July 2020
UIA 27th World Congress of Architects News
In statements and interviews, participants in the 27th World Congress of architects open the discussion on the future of cities.
Francis Kéré, Elizabeth de Portzamparc, Zaida Muxi and Oskar Metsavaht are among those who recorded videos for a special UIA2021RIO programme next week
Transferred to July 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 27th World Congress of Architects is already organising virtual discussions. The idea is to establish an open, collaborative programme fostering reflections and proposals responding to the contemporary challenges raised by cities.
The countdown to the event begins next week, with the publication of special content in the UIA2021RIO social networks, with videos featuring statements and interviews with speakers, contributors and partners. They talk about the impact of the pandemic, what could be altered in city configurations, and what architects and urban planners should contribute to society.
Miguel Pinto Guimarães interviews Francis Kéré
A leading name in the modern world, African architect Diébédo Francis Kéré is one of the participants in the special programme for the week. Interviewed by fellow architect Miguel Pinto Guimarães, their conversation will be released in the UIA2021RIO networks on Thursday, July 23.
Born in Burkina Faso, Kéré has proven an agent for social transformation in his home continent. His designs blend traditional construction materials and methods, with community participation.
Confirmed as a keynote speaker at the 27th World Congress of Architects, during this interview Kéré outlines his view of the world in the current context, talking about his activities in countries as different as Mali, Yemen, China and the USA.
The winner of several international architecture prizes, including the Aga Khan Award for Achitecture, the Global Holcim Award, the BSI Swiss Architectural Award and the Schelling Architecture Award, Diébédo Francis Kéré was included for the first time this year on the Architectural Digest list of the world’s most influential architects and interior designers: AD100 2020.
With projects implemented in Brazil and elsewhere in the world, Rio-born architect Miguel Pinto Guimarães guides the conversation through his studies of traditional peoples and the harmonisation of architecture with natural landscapes, climate and plantlife. He is also confirmed as a speaker at UIA2021RIO.

UIA World Congress of Architects News
Forecast to attract 20,000 Attendees, the World Congress of Architects is postponed.
The International Union of Architects (UIA) and the Brazilian Institute of Architects (IAB) announce that the 27th World Congress of Architects – UIA2020RIO will be postponed.
Initially scheduled for July 19 – 23, 2020 in Rio de Janeiro, it will now be held on July 18 – 22, 2021.
This decision was taken jointly with the UIA2020RIO Executive Committee, after carefully analysing the situation caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This raised a series of stumbling-blocks (consisting mainly of health threats) for the vast majority of the countries that would otherwise have attended the world’s largest Architecture event.
With attendees already signed up from more than sixty countries, this Conference also has some fifty speakers and seven keynote speakers from seventeen countries. The original expectations were that this event would attract between 15,000 and 20,000 participants to Rio de Janeiro in 2020, ranking it as one of the largest business events in the city this year.
The many pre-Congress events – including exhibitions, seminars, lectures and other occasions – will be rescheduled as soon as permitted by the coronavirus pandemic.
“The situation in which we are living is dramatic, and it is a pity that we have to postpone our largest event. But we here at the UIA and the team preparing the UIA2020RIO in Brazil are firmly committed to repeating the preparations, in order to ensure that we hold one of our most memorable Congresses in 2021. This coronavirus crisis raises new issues and contexts for Architecture and Urban Planning that must be discussed in some depth,” says Thomas Vonier, who chairs the International Union of Architects.
All registrations and enrolments will remain valid for the new event dates, and the programme drawn up for the 27th World Congress of Architects will remain unchanged.
One of the main issues – Urban Health – tabled for discussion at UIA2020RIO under the coordination of the UIA Public Health Group (PHG) should become even more significant, encompassing discussions on Architecture and Urban Planning responding to the needs resulting from epidemics such as that caused by the coronavirus.
“Already a major theme at UIA2020RIO, discussions of Urban Health now take on a new dimension. We have much to discuss, ranging from hospital designs through to basic sanitation projects, and including discussions of urban spaces during epidemics. Without the slightest doubt, Architecture and Urban Planning have much to contribute to the sustainable development of our cities, as they face these new challenges,” commented Sérgio Magalhães, who chairs the UIA2020RIO Executive Committee.
With this postponement, the Congress will now be held in the Centennial year of the Brazilian Institute of Architects (IAB). Its President Nivaldo Andrade says that “Like Brazil, the Institute looks forward to welcoming practitioners from all over the world on an occasion that is so important to this entity.”

1000 Albums, 2020: Albums #30-21
This is the first of six posts wrapping up my and Sam’s 2020 Music Project. Once again, as we have for five years now, we’ve hit 1000 albums from the year. In fact, this year, we listened to 1074 albums released in the year (December 2019-November 2020, inclusive), plus 102 throwback albums (not from 2020), and 1698 entities in total, which also includes tracks released as stand-alone singles, EPs and the like.
While we listen to the same set of music, Sam and I have quite divergent tastes, and his choices will be quite different from mine. But I’m hoping for a couple of high-profile crossovers. There are certainly a few albums this year that we both very much enjoyed.
As a programming note, I’m ordering my posts slightly differently this year, in order to keep Sam’s anticipation of my posts as high as possible (after all, he’s the one who most cares about this). Rather than giving the long list of “almost ran” albums right at the start, thereby eliminating all the real contenders, I’m going to count down my Top 30 albums ten at a time, after which I’ll reveal the longer list of outlier albums #31-100. That way, he’ll be thinking “ooh, will Butch Walker be in his top 10??” right up until the last post. Except I’m bound to disappoint him, because Butch Walker comes in at #54.
After I’ve finished the albums, I’ll list my top tracks in two posts: the first will be the outliers, the second will be actual writeups of my genuine favourite tracks of the year. Usually I provide my top tracks without much commentary, but this year I’ve got a collection of ~30 tracks or so that I do want to say something about individually.
Before we get there, though, let’s look through the first set of my top albums of the year.
#30. Saint Saviour - Tomorrow Again (chamber folk)
Tumblr media
A great collection of music, with an ethereal folk quality running through it. But they elevate it with chamber instrumentation, in particular some very fine string arrangements. These work perfectly with soft vocal harmonies, and some oddly catchy riffs. It is, in some ways, quite sullen, but the otherworldly quality stops it from ever being less than fascinating.
My favourite track here is a real stand out: Taurus. It fits beautifully with the rest of the album, while also being the exemplar of what makes the album good. The haunting piano riff, which is eventually doubled with intersecting vocal lines is just a beautiful piece of music.
Recommended track: Taurus.
#29. Post Animal - Forward Motion Godyssey (psychedelic rock)
Tumblr media
This was an album that took out an Album of the Week award in February, but it was one that I didn’t necessarily think a lot of for the rest of the year. When I came to relisten to it, I was reminded again that this stood out. This isn’t your regular psych-infused indie rock. It has a hardness to it which helps, but more that that, these folks play with harmonic and melodic shifts that don’t necessarily make sense. It almost feels like a new tonality at times—just enough to catch you off guard and make you constantly re-evaluate where you’re balancing in listening to a track.
My favourite track off the album is the self-titled Post Animal, but to be honest, there’s a great deal on the album of similar quality—it’s the combined weight of all of the great stuff that propels this into my Top 30 albums of the year.
Recommended Track: Post Animal
#28. The Jerry Cans - Echoes (Inuit neo-folk)
Tumblr media
An album I liked well-enough on the week we listened to it (it took out the third place spot to two albums which are now below it in the list), it took until relistening for me to get it into my head that it was genuinely the best and most interesting album of the week. Combining mildly folk-infused pop rock with Inuit-language lyrics and judicious use of throat-singing, this is the kind of album which you’re forced to consider on its own terms.
Mostly, though, it succeeds by being catchy, well-written rock. The folk parts are just icing on the cake, and provide it with a differentiating point that really help elevate it when you’re comparing it to other top albums of the year. There are a number of good tracks here, but I’ve picked Atauttikkut, one of the ones completely in Inuit and with the best incorporation of the rhythmic throat singing at an appropriate point.
Recommended Track: Atauttikkut
#27. Aloud - Sprezzaturra (blues rock)
Tumblr media
This is a surprising entry for me, and it’s likely to surprise Sam as well, as this is another that didn’t stand out that much in the week I heard it. But on the numbers, it was definitely an album that warranted a relisten. And once I’d taken the whole album, rather than just the isolated track I added to my “revision playlist”, I saw what a rich collection of music it was. It’s not specifically limited to blues—it takes in a lot of jazz and soul influences, in the way of an artist like Lake Street Dive (#3 album of 2016 for me). And there’s variety across the album, which makes the whole album a much richer experience than listening to just your favourite track or two. I mean, isn’t that the great point of an album in any case?
Picking out a single track, as a result is difficult, and the one I singled out the first time doesn’t even feel necessary like the best candidate. Instead, I’ll go with Hungry Land, which almost takes a bit of jazz-era Chicago or E-Street Band kind of crunch to it.
Recommended Track: Hungry Land
#26. The Phenomenal Handclap Band - PHB (psychedelic soul)
Tumblr media
Again a band which can really pump out those jazz influences, these guys also play with nu disco, experimental pop and dreampop to give a surprisingly diverse album. It’s an album that’s often based around those driving jazz riffs though, even when you get a good danceable track like my top track Riot.
Quite surprisingly, despite this being one of my top albums of the year, I don’t think it’s among their personal best work, meaning that there’s ample room for the 2022-ish PHB album to really blow me out of the water. They’re capable of it.
Recommended Track: Riot
#25. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Reunions (alt country)
Tumblr media
This is one of the rare albums where my list will agree with the bulk of the “best albums of the year” lists. It doesn’t happen often—I like to think it’s because I listen to a shit-ton more music than the average music journalist, but this is probably kidding myself. Anyway, despite not agreeing very often, this is a match, and it’s a fine album. Isbell has a strong sense of honest songwriting, and can put together something that’s heartwrenching in both tone and lyrical content. Tracks like It Gets Easier are hard-hitting numbers, while others provide much needed levity.
My personal favourite track on this album is Be Afraid, which has a great hook in the chorus, which feels neatly rhythmically contorted.
Recommended Track: Be Afraid
#24. Badly Drawn Boy - Banana Skin Shoes (indie pop rock)
Tumblr media
Part of our music project this year was listening to all of the albums which won the Mercury Prize for album of the year, from Primal Scream’s Screamadelica right through to this year’s winner Kiwanuka from Michael Kiwanuka (which we actually heard as part of last year’s music project). Amusingly, Badly Drawn Boy’s album The Hour of Bewilderbeest, which won the 2000 Mercury Prize came up not long before we discovered a new album from the group, 20 years later. And this is a very fine album. It has that quality I love in established artists’ later work, which is that they feel a sense of freedom of what they’re creating. Here, they’re much less serious and affected than in Bewilderbeest, allowing a fuller sense of humour and fun to their lyrics, and providing more of an upbeat drive.
There’s no less complexity to the songwriting though, and there’s some biting satire to the content. But it’s put into a remarkably delicious container. Often you don’t realise some of these poppy numbers are ascerbic as they are. A couple of really good tracks on here, but I think my pick is Is This a Dream?.
Recommended Track: Is This a Dream?
#23. MOBS - Cinema Paradiso (80s pastiche pop)
Tumblr media
There’s always a place for pure pop in my album lists, and MOBS not only provide us with pure pop, they throw it through the magic 80s synthpop filter. It comes out blasting the other end with cheesy neon energy and a oiled-up saxophonist wearing leather pants. It’s high-energy stuff, pulsating with a kind of groove and energy that is too often eschewed in modern popular music.
There are two tracks I particularly love here, Big World and School’s Out, both of which take funk and disco rhythms and throw all the pastiche of the 80s on top. All with a rich, bassy production quality that sounds a lot more modern. I will say that I thought early on that this might be higher in the list than this, but on relistening it felt a little more like a “solid” album with a couple of really great fun tracks on it.
Recommended track: School’s Out
#22. Jason Wilson - Sumach Roots (eclectic folk)
Tumblr media
This is an album that over the year since its January release has become something of a meme between Sam and me. Because it was an album we both really liked overall, and yet for both of us, it was difficult to point to any individual songs that seemed to really illustrate why the album was good. Hence the term “a Jason Wilson” entered the parlance, meaning an album that we liked despite the seeming lack of individual standout tracks.
Partially, the reason this is good is its eclecticism. It kind of runs through various modes of melodic folk, perhaps with reggae influences being something of a touchpoint across the album. Wilson assembles a good ensemble of musicians to match his flow, and there’s a consistent feeling of coherence as a result. While it’s hard to pick out an individual track, I personally like the double/half time reggae of Happy Little Sisyphus, which has its own relentless quality as though it’s constantly driving its own rock up a hill. But again, this feels like an album that you can’t gauge just by listening to a single track in isolation.
Recommended track: Happy Little Sisyphus
#21. DMA’S - The Glow (Australio indie rock)
Tumblr media
A really good collection of music from the Australian group here. I would have said I “surprisingly liked” their 2018 album For Now, but this is an album I absolutely embraced. It’s also an album I’d somewhat forgotten about until I did relistening at the end of the year. It won my Album of the Week back in July when it was released, but it largely didn’t feature in my thought process for the end of the year until I realised what a concentration of great tracks it has. Criminals, Round & Around, and title track The Glow are great pieces of enjoyable pop rock, infused with just enough aggression and drive to give them an edge.
My personal favourite track though is Never Before, which swoops upwards with an almost ethereal, psych-channeling vocal line, still while bringing the crunchy guitars and driving beat underneath to move it forward. But there’s a lot that’s good on this album, and while this might not canonically fit the definition of “a Jason Wilson”, it’s also an album which feels like it becomes more than the sum of its parts.
Recommended Track: Never Before

7 Social media contest ideas to increase engagement
Turn up the likes, comments, and shares with these social media contest ideas.
1. Like and/or comment to win
The classic “like and/or comment to win” is a tried and true way to increase engagement. It can be held on just about any social platform, from LinkedIn to Instagram.
Simply create a post with an explanatory caption, include an entry deadline and simple guidelines, and voila! You can also share the post in Facebook or Instagram Stories to better spread the word.
In this example from Hallmark UK and Ireland’s Instagram account, the entry rules and deadline are clearly stated, and an on-brand image of the prize ties it all together. Hashtags like #giveaway, #freebie, #liketoenter, and #commentoenter help to amplify the contest’s reach, too.

A post shared by Hallmark UK & Ireland (@hallmarkukandireland) on May 21, 2019 at 11:26am PDT
2. Share or RT to enter
Like and/or comment to win contests prompt engagements with your base, but by pairing the contest with a share or RT requirement, you can reach more people. If you ask followers to share to Facebook or Instagram Stories, keep in mind that you’ll only be able to confirm those shares within 24 hours.
To promote the launch of its new direct flight from Tampa to Frankfurt, German airline Lufthansa ran a two-week #Hausguest social media campaign. To enter for a chance to win houseguest essentials, all participants had to do was retweet.
3. Tag a friend
Bring ideas 1 and 2 together with a “tag a friend” entry requirement, since a tag is technically a comment and a share wrapped into one. Ideally, this approach will benefit from the ripple effect: A friend tags a friend tags a friend kind of thing.
This example from Montreal-based shoe brand asks participants to tag three friends, increasing the odds of additional tags.

Brands with big budgets may also wish to incentivize tags with double prizes. For instance, a restaurant could ask followers to tag the person they’d like to share a meal with. Another way to encourage tags is to let them count as multiple entries.

4. Photo caption contest
A “caption this” prompt is a fun way to encourage followers to comment on your photo and engage with your brand.
Shopkins toy brand uses this type of contest to showcase its products. You don’t need a big prize budget to run a successful social media contest, either. Simply featuring the winner in Instagram Stories was enough to prompt 45 comments in this contest, three times more than its previous post.

5. Create a best comment competition
Giving followers a prompt can inspire more comments. Ask them to tell you why they—or a person they nominate—deserve to win. Or ask them to come up with a name for a new product.
For a chance to win a print of this Saskia Skoric painting, participants were asked to come up with a name for it.

6. Create a play-to-win game
Over the course of one week, Chipotle kept its Instagrammers on their toes with a series of successive games intended to get people excited about the addition of queso to the menu.
On the first day, fans were asked to comment with the letters “Q-U-E-S-O” on a post in uninterrupted succession. That led to 22,000 comments and a year of free queso for the winner.
On day four, Chipotle launched a “spot the differences” game using Instagram Galleries, a game that 450 people played.
By the end of the week more than 50,000 people had participated, making The Queso Cup Chipotle’s highest engagement Instagram campaign of all time.
7. Vote to win
People love to have their say. Create a contest where a vote counts as an entry. Ask users to vote in the comment section of a post, or create an Instagram Stories poll. This is also a quick and easy way to collect feedback from your audience on something important to your business.

6 social media contest ideas to increase followers
Grow your follower count with these tried and tested social media contest ideas.
1. Follow to win
The most straightforward way to broaden your audience is to require a follow for contest entry.
This contest structure is usually combined with a “like” request, too, as in this example from Riedel UK.
View this post on Instagram
Follow @RiedelUK and like this post for the chance to win a set of 6 Riedel Fatto A Mano Cabernet/Merlot glasses worth £425! Comp ends at 2pm on 22.02.19 ❤️???????????????????? #RIEDEL #myRiedel #competition #liketowin #followtowin #tagtowin #cabernet #merlot #wine #glass #fattoamano

Brookes Blooms ran a similar contest. But, instead of using a date as an entry deadline, they set a goal of 100 followers before drawing a winner.

2. Follow and share to enter
There’s little point in asking your followers to follow you. The best “follow to win” contests are supported by an amplification strategy.
Ask people to follow and share your post. Or ask them to tag someone in the comments so you can reach and hopefully entice non-followers to come aboard.
View this post on Instagram
GIVEAWAY TIME ???? We are giving away one of our lunch boxes to one lucky winner! Winner will be announced on Sunday the 2nd of June! TO ENTER: •You must be following @luxury.eco •Like and share this photo •Tag as many friends as possible for multiple entries Good luck!
A post shared by LuxuryEco (@luxury.eco) on May 26, 2019 at 5:53pm PDT
3. Follow to win + influencer
Another great way to reach new potential followers is to partner with an influencer. These contests can require entrants to follow both accounts for a mutual gain, or just your company’s account.
Keep in mind that the terms you agree upon may influence the partnership cost.
Lufthansa teamed up with influencer Marissa Cox @ruerodier to reach her audience of 123K followers. Based on the post’s comments, the airline scored somewhere near 650 followers out of the promotion.
View this post on Instagram
Congratulations @lilitoohappy – you’ve won!! Please DM me your address details etc…. NOW CLOSED: COMPETITION/CONCOURS: I don’t know about you, but I have serious wanderlust at the moment, so I’ve teamed up with @lufthansa to offer one of you x2 return flights within Europe (Lufthansa destinations) To enter: – Follow @ruerodier & @lufthansa and like this post – Comment and tag your partner or friend you would like to travel with. (You must be +18 to enter & I will announce the winner on Wednesday.) Good luck/ Bonne chance! #unknownplaces #lufthansa [AD]
A post shared by Marissa Cox (@ruerodier) on Apr 14, 2019 at 9:01am PDT
4. Weekly or monthly draws
It’s easy for followers to unfollow. But accounts that run monthly contests or draw winners weekly have a better chance of earning loyalty and maintaining follower counts.
A few years back, Expedia noticed that #tbt was the fourth most popular hashtag on Instagram. Every Thursday over a 10 week period, people who shared a vacation throwback with the #ThrowMeBack tag were entered for a chance to be “thrown back” on that holiday.
Expedia featured content on its account and published winners once a week, a strategy that encouraged people to follow to see if they’d won.
In less than 10 weeks, the company nearly doubled its following on Instagram.

5. Follower milestone campaign
Brands that are on the brink of passing a follower milestone like earning that capital K or M beside a number can use the occasion to build momentum.
There are a few ways to approach one of these campaigns. The New England Patriots asked people to RT or share the hashtag #1MillionPatriots for the chance to see their name on a custom digital jersey. Unfortunately, they used a bot to select winners and things didn’t quite go as planned.
We're saying thanks to @patriots' 1million followers w/ custom digital Pats jerseys – RT for yours! #1MillionPatriots pic.twitter.com/u2SfidCb9e
— New England Patriots (@Patriots) November 13, 2014
As NBC’s Dateline approached the million “like” mark on Facebook, it launched a “One in a Million” campaign. To enter, participants had to explain why they deserved to win a special New York experience.
Bonus: Download our free, customizable social media calendar template to easily plan and schedule all your content in advance.

Two weeks ago, we brought Kim Trimble & Denise Hunnings, two of Dateline's biggest fans and the winners of our 'One in a Million' contest, behind the scenes of Dateline NBC for two days.It was awesome.
Posted by Dateline NBC on Monday, July 21, 2014
Others, like the craft queen herself, offer to award the two-millionth follower with a price.
If you are my 2 millionth follower – I will give you an amazing Singer sewing machine! Spread the word and RT

6. Stage an exciting unveil
Brands can ask people to follow them, or they can give people a reason to follow them. Use a contest as an initial hook, and secure followers by creating an incentive to tune in for the results.
Foot Locker nabbed a Shorty Award for its #HorseWithHarden contest on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. For one week, fans were asked to shoot a video of their most creative basketball shots and share them with the hashtag.
Now here’s the sinker: NBA star James Harden would be recreating the best submissions on Foot Locker’s feeds in a faceoff against the Internet.
Unsurprisingly, Foot Locker’s YouTube subscriber rate skyrocketed by 300 percent.
In a battle of two heavyweights, only one could claim victory. @JHarden13 vs. The Internet. WATCH! #HorseWithHardenhttps://t.co/1AFCGFQjp9
— Foot Locker (@footlocker) October 3, 2014
Want to do something like this on a lower budget? Plan to announce the winner in a separate post.
If you put the onus on participants to claim their prize, rather than contact the winner directly, they’ll be more likely to follow for the results.
3 social media contest ideas to collect leads
Learn more about your audiences with these lead generating social media contest ideas.
1. Enter to win sweepstakes
Sometimes the most obvious solution is the best one. The old-fashioned enter-to-win sweepstakes formula still works like a charm, especially with tools like Facebook’s Instant Forms feature.
To collect email addresses for future retargeting campaigns, Asian restaurant chain P.F. Chang created a sweepstakes on Facebook and Instagram that asked people to share their email address to enter.
Backed by paid reach, the month-long contest received nearly half-a-million entries.
Automaker Opel used Instagram Stories and it’s direct-link capability to secure 1,887 contest registrations.
2. Chat to win
A chatbot can offer a more tailored experience than generic form registration.
KIA Motors Europe developed a Facebook Messenger chatbot that could ask people questions and help them enter to win a special experience. Promoted with click-to-Messenger ads, the chatbot was able to deliver 3,000 registrations.
3. Plan a social scavenger hunt
Leaving easter eggs or clues across your social media channels allows you to provide multiple call-to-actions to fill out a form.
Take medical web and mobile-learning platform Osmosis for example. Its #OsmosisQuest challenge asks followers to find answers to its contest across its social media accounts in exchange for a free month trial of Osmosis Prime.
To complete the submission, participants are also asked to share basic information, like what school they attend and what degree they’re pursuing.
View this post on Instagram
Announcing #OsmosisQuest! Running March 25–29, this interactive adventure will take you on a scavenger hunt through all the different features of the Osmosis platform. . Every entrant gets one free month of Osmosis Prime for completing the Osmosis Quest, as well as a shot at winning SIX MONTHS! . Visit the link in our bio to read the full contest rules and begin your journey. ????️???? . #osmosis #giveaway #learnmedicine #FOAMEd

6 social media contest ideas to generate buzz
Promote a new product, takeover a social conversation, or just increase awareness and consideration.
1. Put out a call for submissions
A call for user-generated content is a surefire way to generate buzz. Especially if the call is specific, easy-to-follow, and realistic for enough followers to complete.
Before launching a new chicken burger last September, Burger King UK knew it would have to address its “checkered chicken past.” So the company asked people to share photos of themselves taking a bite out of an imaginary burger using the #BK20KBITE for a chance to be paid £20,000 to taste-test the real thing.
Other companies have encouraged people to submit photos with real products, which in turn can help to boost sales, too.
Taking a different approach, Adobe challenged its community of creators to explore the full range of Photoshop’s possibilities. After realizing many of its users were Dungeons and Dragons fans, the company put out a call for the community to create the new D&D monster.
In the end more than 2,000 creatures were shared, showing everyone what Photoshop and the Adobe community were capable of creating.
This Halloween, create a Dungeons & Dragons monster for a chance to win $5,000 & have your work immortalized as a D&D miniature. #SummonTheTerror of Undermountain at https://t.co/uflRuuYh03.
No Purchase Necessary. Ends 11/16/18. Age of Majority. Rules at https://t.co/uflRuuYh03 pic.twitter.com/Ngm2q8huFP
— Adobe Photoshop (@Photoshop) October 30, 2018
2. Create a hashtag challenge
Hashtag challenges have been around for a longtime, starting with Cinemagram and Vine, and now TikTok. Thanks to their popularity, it’s easy for companies to join in with branded hashtags that prompt users to engage and become brand ambassadors.
Guess was the first to challenge TikTok users with its #InMyDenim campaign that asked participants to create videos depicting their denim transformations. The hashtag has raked in 37.9 million views.
Wondering what TikTok is and if you should care about it? Learn more.
3. Take over an event
This is not the same as an influencer “takeover”. Frank’s RedHot scored a touchdown on Twitter this year with a #FranksSweepstakes that asked fans to help bring its “Put That S#!t on Everything!” catchphrase to life.
During the game, fans were asked to put the chili pepper emoji on every ad they saw. In other words, when a car commercial comes on, you’d tweet the pepper plus the auto emoji. Franks RedHot made use of an event that wasn’t officially “theirs”, but at which they knew lots of customers would be in attendance.
It's time! Tweet ????️ + the emoji for the category of the ad you're watching + #FranksSweepstakes, and you just might win. Not all ads quality.  Full rules and prizes here: https://t.co/8NLgQkg2bp pic.twitter.com/u6i8E6EYY6
— Frank's RedHot (@FranksRedHot) February 3, 2019
4. Use a branded filter/lens to win
Why not ask fans to create a Snap or Story with a branded filter for a chance to win a prize? Many companies, including Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts, and HBO’s Game of Thrones have created branded filters to promote a new product or simply increase awareness.
You donut want to miss our #NationalDonutDay lens on Snapchat today 6/2! ????: dunkindonuts pic.twitter.com/wEEJjRJ4xJ
— Dunkin' (@dunkindonuts) June 2, 2017
5. Play to win a Snapchat game
We’ve all been caught in a Snappable snafu, whether you’ve been walked in on trying to catch imaginary Twizzlers in your mouth, or fulfilling some other odd objective.
With a built-in games setup, brands can use Snapchat to create video-gamified contests.
GrubHub created a Snapchat game called “Food’s Here” game that offered players $10 off their first order for winning, and $15 off if they downloaded the food delivery app.
6. Create a Pinterest Board to Win
Asking followers to create a Pinterest board can be a great way to encourage engagement with your products.
For instance, Pinners could be asked to use a travel company’s Pins to create a board depicting their dream vacation. Or home interiors companies could ask Pinners to use their products to create a board for their ideal living room.
Save time and run your next social media contest with Hootsuite. Promote it across all the major networks, engage your followers, and manage user-generated content in one place. Try it free today.
