Progress Update [28/JAN]

Hey all! Hope the new year has been treating you well so far 💖

If you're pledged to the Patreon, this progress update won't have anything new for you! The first progress update for January that you got weeks ago already went over all this. For everyone else, here's a little update of how CH13 is shaping up so far! I'm hoping to do these on a monthly basis as we go forward.

Most of January has gone pretty well writing wise, aside from that one week where I got horribly sick lol. If you've read previous progress updates/seen previous previews for CH12, you might remember that in the original draft, CH12 included a court scene with the Crown taking public petitions and dealing with more politics. I decided it would be too much to include in CH12, however, since the chapter is already quite expansive at 76k words.

Putting it at the start of CH13 gives it much more room to breathe and will allow me to delve in deep with all the different variations and make it a bigger scene. And that's kind of necessary considering all the different decisions the player has made that will feature into it:

How you decided to handle Steward Bazo's absence from your coronation back in CH7 (condemning him, forgiving him, or waiting before making a decision)

Whether you fired the Office of Law/Minister Besna, and if you did, whether you chose Noble Nûdem to be her replacement

Whether you have Lady Naza as your Minister of Defense

Whether you have an alliance with the Office of Imperial Decrees/Minister Awir

Additional variations for those romancing R and A, like how X and D's routes got extra court scenes back in CH11

On top of that, as I mentioned before, the Crown will be able to make some decisions on petitions from the public. This will be the scene where you'll be able to gain the most increase to your relationship with the public (or the nobility, if you choose to go that route)! So if you fumbled it before with the Office of Law, this scene will allow you to recover from that (or not).

That aside, the route regarding the peri trader will also be resolved in this chapter. If you have played both the peri trader route and the Kham meeting route, you may have noticed that the route where the Crown goes to meet the peri trader doesn't have all the exposition that the Kham route does--this will be saved for CH13, with some revelations that you won't get in the Kham route. It's a trade-off in that way!

And, of course, more romantic developments with your chosen love interest, but to a lesser extent compared to CH12. In CH13 is where we're wrapping everything up in Marabad, and setting off to the expedition to the mountains 🙏🏼

So far I've started writing the public petitions, and some variations of the court scene for R and A's routes, so I'm hovering around ~10k words at the moment. It's not as much as I hoped to write for January, but a lot of the process also involved planning the chapter, so hopefully February will be much more productive now that I have the structure of the chapter figured out.

So… how’s the progress going?

WELL UHM

I ended up changing a lot of stuff during my break. Instead of starting with the prologue, as planned, I’ve decided to jump straight into Chapter One. The prologue was starting to spiral into something way too massive (to the point I couldn't call it a prologue anymore) — honestly, it was becoming longer than any of the chapters I’ve planned. And constantly writing variations of the same scene(s) was getting exhausting.

A friend also gave me some solid advice: don’t reveal the Big Thing too early. Don’t worry though—you’re not missing out on any crucial! Everything that I had written for the prologue will still be revealed— just gradually. That will keep me from feelings worn out. (Everything will be out in the open by chapter 7—there’s a lot more drama I need to get to, and I can't let the past hog the spotlight for too long, especially when it’s going to mess character dynamics 💀)

But here's the good news! You’ll get to meet all the ROs in Chapter One—except for Shay.

Also considering of making these little progress reports a weekly thing! This week’s been especially productive—I’m pretty proud of myself. I wrote 10k words for one scene (and it’s still only 1/3rd done… send help).

Hello everyone!

(A quick note, this is tagged as mature due to the brief touch on spicy content for subscribers, but there's no real "mature" content below, it is just a list of warnings.) The warnings are typed with strikethrough in case you would rather skip this part.

I'm just stopping by to give you some broad updates on what is cooking on my side of the screen.

Chapter 6 is up to 86k words. I have a feeling it may end up the biggest yet. I have about six segments left to finish. The goal is to finish this for release to subscribers in July – take note that this is my personal goal and not a deadline. I am not setting a deadline because it sets me up for failure. There's substantial pressure when working toward a specific date and it will ultimately create more delays for me. If it goes up in July, subscribers will have it 30 days in advance of the public release. Saves will be broken – just expect this. Likely, hard saves will not work either. There will be substantial corrections in the previous chapters and added content in Chapter 5. Some coding will have also changed.

For June subscribers on Patreon and Ko-fi, Zahn is up to bat!

Crow Tier:  Expect a heartwarming story featuring Zahn (gender selectable). Posting date: 6/15

Raven Tier:  Expect a steamy and kinky exchange with Zahn (cis woman). Posting date: 6/15

Both Tiers:  My goal is to have another teaser project sample posted this month as well. I will post publicly when I know for sure if this will get done. It may be toward the end of the month.

If Chapter 6 is ready in July, there will be no extras posted, and the below* will be moved to the following month.

If Chapter 6 is not ready in July, *there will be a series of side stories posted for both tiers that are much shorter. The Crow Tier will likely get a few cute ones with the ROs and probably some world-building ones as well. The Raven Tier will get a series of spicy "quickies," each featuring a different RO. These will not be interactive or gender-selectable for either MC or the RO, but I will try to have a variety of content to tickle your fancy.

In Lunan News…

I celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary! My spouse and I have been together for over 15 years in total and I still haven't managed to scare him away (not for lack of trying either).

My shoulder is not better. I met with my doctor and after lots of poking and prodding and wiggling my arm around, we worked out a different set of stretches and exercises for me to try. I've also been given a couple medications. They are pretty sure my rotator cuff is slightly torn or very irritated. If I see no improvement with the new regiment in the next few weeks, the next step is a MRI to take a look. This could eventually mean surgery which I am NOT jazzed about in the slightest. I am hopeful, with the meds and the new stretches, I do feel a bit better already and can use my arm with less pain after stretching. The plus side is, this does not currently and should not impede my ability to write. Thank the stars for that because otherwise I would go insane.

Work is still being ridiculous. I may have to do more overtime this month, but hopefully just during one week and then I'm done completely (or I'll at least not have to do as much). Eventually, once things even out, I believe I will be able to fully open my Tumblr inbox and also go through more of the backlog I have there already (approximately mid July). However, they sent out a request for "anonymous" feedback and I happily gave them all the fucking feedback they could handle (professionally, of course). We'll see just how anonymous it is, I guess. Who knows – maybe I'll be job-hunting and writing full time before too long, lol.

Our kitties are doing great! Arlo is obsessed with reflecting light and now chatters at the ceiling in anticipation of sunlight coming through the windows. Miles likes to watch me sleep – a lot.

Chapter 6 – "Tarot" Card Scene:

The tingle is back in our fingers, very light and almost tickling. Once the first card is down, the tingle returns so you place a second, and then a third. After the fourth card is down, the tingle stops. The reader gestures for you to then flip your first card. The card is upright, depicting a large platform in the middle, held up by the silhouette of a giant person. The platform contains several buildings atop it, like a prospering city. "The Architect," they begin. "A common card for readings on relationships and a good sign at that. You are a foundation, a safe place for a relationship to build and thrive. You support and shelter your loved one even if they do not understand the type of help they need or how much. If you or they have any unresolved feelings, it's important to address them soon or cracks in your foundation can ruin the entire structure."

There are many things you love about Zahn, but chief among them is her willingness to play with you. She trusts you implicitly when you want to try new things, she instigates just as much. Even when things don't go very well, she laughs it off with you, always saying, 'At least we tried something new.' I wish I would have had the time to compile some extras to celebrate, but that will need to wait until next year. Just remember that Pride is eternal. Nothing can take that away. Triaina: Academy Update (9/15/2024)

Hello everyone! I'm pleased to announce the release of the beginning of chapter 6!

New revelations, new scenes, and a brand-new character joins the main cast! Alongside these, a couple special scenes per RO route and MC background were added.

This chapter will be mostly a debriefing and small break from the previous hectic festival chapter. I'll mostly be focusing on the MC for the majority of it, giving more focus to the MC specialization that has been running in the background for a bit and bringing it to a forefront with the primary decision on what the MC will become for the remainder of the story.

My next endeavor for the next update will be these specialization scenes, as well as an RO scene where the second key decision will be made that will determine their path.

Chapter 3 now sits at ~53.700 words!! I've made great progress these last two days, mainly by cutting back on non-essentials like sleep.

Word goal is still ~80k-90k for this chapter, so there's still quite a ways to go, and I have to take a little break soon since I need to focus on work and important real life academic achievements. But I'm enjoying the progress and I'm very proud of where this chapter is headed <3 thanks for being here

Patreon Announcement/Sort of Update

I've already posted this on my Patreon, but I'm posting it here as well for transparency's sake!

Work on CH12 has been absolutely tormenting me for the past year and I think, aside from personal circumstances, part of the reason is because I'm having Patreon Content Fatigue. You know, in case the increasingly erratic uploads and me running out of ideas for snippets weren't making that obvious 😭

So I've decided September (and potentially also October/November depending on how long it takes for CH12 to get finished) I'm going to focus solely on working on CH12. Instead of new character or romance snippets, I will be releasing previews and sneak peeks for CH12 every couple of days as I work on writing for it. I'll be aiming to post at least 2 previews every week, and they'll be available for all tiers. Hopefully that will also help me get some updates out for you guys on how progress is going!

After CH12 has been finished I may need to reassess how I'm handling the bonus snippet thing. I will still be writing them, of course, but at a certain point it's starting to feel like I'm just forcing it, and I want to avoid falling into that type of burnout as much as possible.

Of course, for those who want to pledge to my Patreon, you will still gain access to all the existing snippets for your tier, that won't change! You just won't see any new ones for a while and in exchange you will get CH12 previews instead. Possibly even for CH13/14 as well, since sometimes I write a scene and decide it doesn't fit in the current chapter, and save it for a future chapter instead.

I'm hoping this will take off some of the pressure that's causing my writer's block.

After reconfiguring my life this week purely to focus on the Gender Census report, I'm happy to say I've done most of the spreadsheetery and about half of the report itself. I'm going to keep going over the weekend, as well.

I am very relieved! I don't like leaving a big gap between the end of the survey and the report coming out. I like to work on it while it's all fresh in my mind.
