Hey, I need help from tumblr gamers and furries to let Phoenix Labs know that they made a HUGE mistake in canceling Project Dragon, a 3D sandbox fantasy game where you can choose from several different races for your character, have fantasy pets, cool mounts and more! I think they said they were also planning multiplayer for this?!
(The reason why I mentioned furries specifically is because the races (2nd pic) feature really fun designs for Fauns, Dragonfolk, Catfolk, and more.)
One of my favorite artists @nicholaskole was a part of it and if you want to see more of this project go to Twitter since he and other artists from the team are sharing the amazing designs and other things. (He is also more active on Twitter and Insta)
Tldr: How can you help? Please use the hashtag #BringBackProjectDragon on platforms Phoenix Labs uses like Twitter, Facebook, Insta, and anywhere else they are! (Maybe even send them a polite email?) Let them know this game looks amazing and needs to be fully released!!!

DAY 28 - Adding modal custom UI.

Isn't this little modal UI pretty? Yes! Which is why I grabbed the prefab and put it into Project Dragon. I wanted Hints/Tips to pop up as a separate thing from the 'confirm' command. They didn't really need confirmation, it was more of a bigger notif for the player,

Easy enough, except when I started the game, the model UI didn't only appear when I called it. It appeared the whole time, even on the main menu. Whack!

The solution to this was fairly simple. On my new UI, I needed to make sure Visible on Awake was not ticked!
Now that tthat was out of the way, I needed to edit the prefab. The original had default text assets, but honestly they looked a little blurry. I wanted to use TextMeshPro, it's sexy, clean, and Naninovel's new default as of version 1.19.

I created TMP font assets, in the font that I wanted. Which I think was Georgia... for now. It will change once I finish the look and feel for the overall project. I followed a quick refresher for adding a new font to TextMeshPro (not hard to do at all), and got cracking.

I dragged in the Custom Variable Trigger script, and set the custom variable to "tip", as will be set in my story.
Then, to get my new modal UI to work with the command, I needed to add a dynamic string textmeshproUGUI text, onto the text object.

Now, I needed to test and make sure my UI and text string variable worked. I wrote a very short scenario, that would make the Hint UI popup. When it did this, the text would be blank, as nothing has been set up to the tip variable.
Then, I set the tip and showed the UI to make sure it came up. (Important to set the tip first so it already appears).

Oca the ocarina golem not only had a 3D model ready to go, but also some animations and even his own theme!
Animations were created by Dave Huddleston who was also lead animator on both Crash Bandicoot 4 and Spyro Reignited.
Oca's Theme was done by, Cris Velasco, who has also created music for games such as God of War, Mass Effect, Bloodborne, Resident Evil, and several other well known franchises.
More and more amazing work continues to be shared by the dev team on X and I heavily encourage any interested to check it out and maybe share it with others, as well as the work of these two artists. Project Dragon was a game that was in development for 3 years only to be canceled weeks from its announcement and its entire art and development team laid off by the Phoenix Labs. The game (which would have been called 'Everhaven' upon release) was intended to be a multiplayer sandbox rpg taking inspiration from both Minecraft and Breath of the Wild, with an art style similar to that of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which some of the team members also worked on along with Crash Bandicoot 4.
According to character design/illustrator Nicolas Kole "Our cancelled project of the last 3 years is officially, truly dead as of today (internal attempts to save it failed), and the embargo on the whole body of portfolio work has been lifted". This means that the only way the game has a chance of resuming development is by raising awareness and spreading the word of it's development. So. Very confused about ProjectDragon like to the point where I have a conspiracy theory about it. It’s crazy to me that there’s so much concept art but no in game models and if the game was JUST BARELY canceled that all these artists are able to post their work without infringing on a NDA.
Someone please illuminate this for me.

I was disappointed when I first saw the cancellation tweet but seeing all the concept art really does make it devastating to lose. As much as I wanted another Spyro game I could see this being an amazing successor to the franchise with the proper care and support, which is impossible for me to say lightly.
Last thing about project dragon / everhaven. If you wanna see more art by these talented artists, please go to nicholaskoles twitter or instagram. He is uploading bit by bit every few hours daily. Theres tons he has not posted yet. This game had a whole 4 years of development behind it, and if you want to see even MORE work regarding it, look at the projectdragon hashtag! There are so many talented artists who got fired who were apart of this incredibly project! They are posting pets, background work, models, animations, etc.
I really urge you to try to use the hashtag #bringbackprojectdragon or @phoenixlabs on twitter if you have one. Its a very small chance this project could be revived, but if there is one nicholas kole said it would be due to groundswell and people talking about it!! I really urge you to consider even just posting the hashtag alone and nothing else to just Show that there is support for this game! 🫶🏽💖

A quick sketch of what my character might have looked like in #ProjectDragon, a game that was scrapped unfortunately very close to Release! A whole Team of incredibly talented artists were layed off. It was an open world minecraft inspired builder and survival game, with multiple playable races, tons of mounts with unique skins and variations, petting animations, and a whole lot more. Here's hoping #bringbackprojectdragon takes off on twitter and the Studio that pulled its funding and layed off this talented Team realized it made a mistake 🌸✨️ people want unique, fun games that aren't just FPS or Remakes.
