@christless , kai parker required a starter from bonnie bennett.
Tumblr media
bonnie had always been a force of nature, but tonight she felt particularly fierce. the moon hung high, casting a silver sheen over the old cemetery where she had come to confront the one person she never thought she’d face again. the air was thick with the remnants of spells and ancient magic, setting the perfect stage for what was about to unfold.
standing by the gravestone of an ancestor she’d known only through stories, bonnie glanced over her shoulder. there he was, emerging from the shadows like a specter—kai parker. his usual smug grin was slightly subdued by the tension of the night.
" thought you could run forever, kai? " bonnie’s voice cut through the quiet night, sharp and unwavering. she could feel the familiar rush of power and adrenaline coursing through her veins, a stark contrast to the calm facade she maintained.
she took a few steps forward, the heel of her boot crunching on the gravel, her eyes never leaving his. " you really thought you could just waltz back into my life and everything would be the same? i’m not the same girl you used to know. i’ve learned a lot since then. i’ve grown. "
bonnie raised her hand slightly, a flicker of magic sparking at her fingertips, a warning of what she was capable of. " so, what’s the game plan this time, kai? another twisted scheme? or are you here for something else entirely? "
the moonlight caught her determined expression, highlighting the resolve in her eyes. bonnie was ready for whatever kai had in store, prepared to face him head-on. the balance of power had shifted, and she intended to make sure he knew it.

@insidi0sum required a starter from bonnie bennett.

bb. something was wrong with this town. bonnie didn't know what yet but she wanted and was going to find out. even if she had to give a lot of energy to find out what was going on here, she hoped that she wasn't the only one looking for this thing that was bothering her. this feeling of deja vu. she had left mystic falls to be able to have a good time. forget everything she had experienced and overcome. but it was in vain. she found herself in a city where the inhabitants fought to know which side of the city was better. a sigh escaped her as she looked around and frowned when she felt a presence near her. " can i help you ? "

@girlief, elena gilbert sent to bonnie bennett:  “   don’t- don’t say it .   ”
Tumblr media
bonnie knew it had to end now. that her people had suffered enough. how can people takes it? especially them. especially elena. elena deserves a life where nothing, and she thinks and stick by it, nothing and no one could hurt her. she had suffered enough as it was. lost her parents a short time ago. loses her aunt. her brother. thinking about it hurt the witch so much. why was fate always against them? it was as if what they achieved had no meaning because there will always be a new obstacle to prevent them from being happy. but enough was enough. this is why going into the past without telling anyone about her trip seems like a good idea. until elena entered the church. " elena! " the witch was surprised to see her best friend here. moving towards her, she couldn't help but put some distance, pulling a spell to protect her. " i'm sorry. you'll thank me in a little while. " a pained smile appears on her lips as she nods. " just know that it was a pleasure to become your best friend. caroline is there for you. you won't be alone. i promise you. it's for your own good. " she promised as she looked at her, holding back the tears that wanted to flow down her face. " you need to be happy. if i can be the shield, i will be. always. " just like that, everything dissapear around her. only leaving a trail of smoke in her adventures into the unknown.

@insanislupus asked: desperation meme. [ 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 ] : sender carries injured receiver to safety. bonbon.
Tumblr media
bb. bonnie knew she wasn't that strong. she was good at hiding it though. does that stop her from being a hero once again ? no. she was meant, built for that anyway. be a sacrifice. that's what a lot of people say about her. you're always helping those around you bonnie, but who helps you ? who is there for you ? maybe that's what's stopping her from being happy ? she doesn't want to be a burden who gets dragged behind. she wants to be useful and give all her energy for a good cause. although, it may kill her. that's why she doesn't stop reciting those cantations. she needs to save the world. they needed her. she feared no one but her falls. trying to stay strong and not fall, she couldn't help but groan when she felt someone pick her up from the ground as she tried to regain her strength. " i don't need help. i need to finish this. " she plead as she looked at the girl, cleaning her bloodied nose with her sleeve. " you don't understand. they need me. " even at her weakest, she tried to stay strong.

Indebted
A suspicious deal that makes Bonnie indebted to Klaus (also Klaus being a annoying as hell about it).
"Your blood is the only thing that can heal a Vampire with Werewolf venom in their system," Klaus rolled the glass of scotch in his hand. His body was relaxed and expression composed after inviting the little witch to listen to her appeal. The lack of emotion on his face made it hard to decipher his true thoughts. Bonnie couldn't help but wring her hands in repetition. "I know you don't owe Elena or any of us, but I wouldn't have come to you if it wasn't important."
Klaus made an unimpressed sound and took a sip of his beverage. He spread his arms along the sofa's length, and a faint arch stretched his lips. His eyes slowly moved along Bonnie's new appearance. Klaus found that her curled hairstyle flattered her features more than the previous one. Kissing the back of his teeth, he wondered, "I thought you wouldn't put yourself at risk for your little friends anymore." Klaus sized Bonnie up and down with mock condescension before his trademark smirk set over his lips. "Yet, here you are saving Elena yet again."
"Just because I set my boundaries in not being the fix-it witch anymore doesn't mean I'm going to let my friends die." Bonnie replied with the same cutting wit, "I know you have trouble understanding the concept of real friendship, but Elena would do the same for me."
Hiding his amusement, Klaus snarkily commented, "oh, I'm sure your best friend in the world would gladly give her life. She's done so for my ritual. The Salvatore brothers, however, would be less inclined to allow it, I reckon. If they had to choose between you and their precious Elena, who do you think means more to them?" Klaus his tone was bragging, full of bluster. He had the face of someone who knew all the gossip and secrets in town. Bonnie would be more surprised if Klaus didn't make it his business to know simply to be petty, no matter how menial.
Bonnie squeezed her hands before sighing. "You're the only one that can heal her, Klaus." He still didn't budge like he was waiting for something. Bonnie added for good measure, hoping it would thaw the Original's cold, vindictive heart, "Elena is Caroline's best friend too." The edge of Klaus's mouth twitched and fell. His glassy stare narrowed, visibly displeased by her remark. It was too subtle a response, and Bonnie couldn't quite place the emotions. However, she relaxed her hands and tapped her fingers together.
"Well, I don't see Caroline anywhere," Klaus noted, looking around the room blankly, proving his point. He set his glass on the table between them and leaned forward, "instead, you, Bonnie, came here rather than her or Damon or Stefan. The only reason you're truly back in Mystic Falls is to learn more about your family lineage." Klaus watched Bonnie lower her head and study him, lips pressed flat, and openly expressed her annoyance. Kissing the back of his teeth, amused, Klaus leaned back into the sofa. "If I'm going to do this good deed, I want something in return."
Bonnie's viridian eyes darted back to his face, hesitating, but it wasn't as if she expected otherwise. Feeling flustered by her less-than-ideal circumstances, the tenseness in Bonnie's stomach clamped together. Pulling back in her seat slightly, she opened her mouth to argue, then stopped and sighed, conceding. "Fine," she scowled at the failed grin Klaus tried to contain and said, "but I'm not doing anything that will put anyone in danger. No magic."
Elated, Klaus ran his tongue along the inside of his lower lip before adding in a silky soft manner, "it's nothing too excessive or unreasonable, love. I simply want to reserve some of your time to discuss something that will benefit the both of us."
The tension left Stefan's body when he witnessed Elena sinking her teeth into Klaus's wrist and greedily gulping down his blood. The latter willingly fed her, which Stefan distrustfully pushed to the back of his mind. After discovering Elena ingested werewolf venom at Rebecca's party, he called Klaus. The hybrid didn't pick up. Stefan left several voicemails and called the others. However, he couldn't reach Caroline or Tyler. Damon wasn't picking up either. Even Jeremy went off the grid. The last person on his list was Bonnie. Luckily, she was in Mystic Falls and staying at her dad's. Stefan knew Bonnie wanted nothing to do with him or Damon. Stefan texted her regardless. It was an emergency; this was about Elena's life. If Bonnie wouldn't do this for him, then at least for her best friend. So imagine Stefan's surprise when Bonnie walked in tow with Klaus on her heels.
Klaus ignored Stefan when he entered and went straight to check on Elena. He stood by the bedside and gave her a scrutinizing look. Stefan couldn't help but shift on his feet, casting a veiled glance at Bonnie. He was worried about Klaus's atypical behavior. He was neither demanding nor snarky with his comments that, like it or not, if they did kill Klaus, there would be no way to deal with werewolf venom. Leaving out the sire bond, they needed Klaus, a bitter pill to swallow. However, Stefan caught the calculated and predatory glint in the Hybrid's eyes, amplified by the secretive smirk on his face.
Klaus was plotting.
When she arrived, Bonnie didn't acknowledge Stefan and stared at her best friend-turned-vampire with a puckered forehead. No one deserved this fate, and an overall weighted feeling set in her chest. Bonnie thought of what Lucy would say once she found out about asking Klaus Mikaelson for a favor. "Way to stay out of vampire business, Bon. You're barely back in Mystic Falls and already fixing things. Lucy is going to chew on my head for this." Bonnie drew a deep breath through her nose, but it didn't do much to lessen her apprehension that she agreed to Klaus's favor.
"Thank you for this, Bonnie," Stefan said after carefully watching the shorter witch. She'd been staring at Elena with concern. Stefan picked out the fine distinctions in her stiff expression, the clamping of her hands on top of each crossed arm and rigid body. When he voiced his gratitude, Bonnie looked at him before quickly looking back at Elena and raising her chin, showing her alertness.
"I didn't do this for you," Bonnie responded calmly. There was no malice or hatred in her voice, but Stefan knew her words, once again, set a line between them as individuals and maybe even species. Except for those she cared for, like her mother, Caroline, and Elena.
"I know," Stefan acknowledged and looked forward again. "But, I'm still thanking you, even if you didn't." Elena's reddened, swollen veins faded when she unhooked her fangs from Klaus's wrist. Stefan glanced at the ancient vampire, silently inspecting Elena like an examiner, before nodding, satisfied to that effect. Klaus was plotting, and Stefan would find out what it was.
After coming down from her delirium, Elena looked confused at the blur coming into focus. When she saw her savior, she almost jumped from the bed and searched the room for Stefan. Her relief was brief and became joy when she smiled excitedly at the person in the room and nearly cried, "Bonnie!"
"Hi Elena, how are you feeling?" Bonnie smiled genuinely. The first emotion didn't make her feel like she needed to keep her guard up, even if she was still wary.
"All... better, uh, actually," Elena was hesitant to feel relieved, though, and cast a glance at the source of her unease, then away. Klaus was present, arms behind his back and gazing down at her with that familiar shrewd curiosity. Elena looked at Stefan, and Bonnie pushed herself halfway up and wiped the sweat from her flushed skin.
"Well, it seems my work here is done." Klaus turned away from Elena to watch Bonnie expectantly before commenting, "come along, love. We have much to discuss."
"What?" Elena suddenly perked up in her position, and even Stefan took a moment for the words to register. The couple looked at Bonnie, who glowered at a smiling Klaus in silent accusation. Elena hesitantly opened her mouth, asking nervously, "Bonnie, what's Klaus talking about?"
Clearing her throat, Bonnie brought her arms over her chest. The desire to flee sounded better than explaining she owed Klaus. Bonnie didn't want to worry her or mess things up. Besides, Klaus wouldn't hurt her, of that she was sure. "It's fine, Elena."
"You saying that makes me worry more." Elena jerked her head in Klaus's direction and glowered at the Hybrid. He pointedly ignored her and saw how he stared at her best friend. "I swear if you hurt Bonnie-"
"You'll what, Elena?" Klaus raised a brow and offered her a questioning gaze. "I saved your life because your best friend knocked at my door with the request to do so. If I were you, I would be more grateful for the mercy offered. If you all managed to rid the world of me, what do you think would have happened, hm? Let's play that game for a moment." Klaus pointedly glanced in Stefan's direction and called attention to why they would always need him. Their lives were literally bound together.
"Listen, Klaus, whatever you want from me, leave Elena-"
"I don't want anything from you. Your lover is cured, and I have what I need." Klaus's glower sharpened as he sized Stefan up and down indifferently. Whatever friendship they once had in the past was strained. Turning on his feet, Klaus focused on the witch and gestured towards the door. "Bonnie."
"What happened to you leaving Mystic Falls for good?" Bonnie asked as she and Klaus left the Salvatore house. With Elena healed, the dread nestling in her gut intensified. She wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible. There were more important things than being around Klaus and doing illogical favors. Bonnie wanted to go through the Mystic Falls archives to see if she could discover more about her ancestry. So far, the longest line her family could trace back was Ayana, who arrived in the New World 1000 years ago. Everything in between that, where Ayana could've migrated, was a mystery. They only had records of the Bennetts in Salem before their return to Mystic Falls in 1692.

I was scouring the internet for Mel's concept art and they finally released it.
Evan Monteiro did his work. Look at the natural hair references for Mel 🥺😭. I feel so seen and she came out amazing. Also Mel is 26?!?! How young was she when she got into the council? Also, Mel is taller than I expected, 172 cm (5'7).
Shoola's is on the list too. I'd love to see the references used for her. Especially the inspiration for her neck brace and golden tipped finger jewelry/rings.

an honest enemy is always better than a friend who lies
pay less attention to what people say, and more to what they do
their actions will show you the truth
Sworn enemies Bonnie Bennett and Klaus Mikaelson find themselves entering an alliance that hangs by a thread. With trust scarce, and betrayal lurking from all sides, they turn to each other. Better the enemy you know than the one you don't.
The process is simple: you feed, or you die. There is no third option. Bonnie doesn't accept that and, desperate to save her mother taps into the dark arts to prevent Abby from becoming the monster she fought to destroy. Predictably, the consequences of such a dark spell quickly rear their ugly heads.
Yet, Bonnie never imagined that her actions would be the spark that unchained a supernatural war. Regardless, her sights are set on curing Abby and reversing her wrongs. All while maintaining a shaky alliance with the Mikaelsons… again. But this time, the stakes in their forced unity are becoming more complicated, with clashing ideologies and difficult feelings lingering from their previous alliance.
Meanwhile, a new threat is awakening - a new enemy sets its devastating plan, spanning for millennia, in motion. Allied with Esther Mikaelson, this force seeks the destruction of the vampire specie as a tribute. It shows a particular interest in the Bennett bloodline.

Nancy Drew has the 10 typical cliche CW tropes but does it way better (ft. The Vampire Diaries)
Note: This is not exclusive bashing of TVD, I did like to binge watch it but it isn't a secret the development of its storylines is monumentally problematic and sometimes racist. This is a comparison between the common CW tropes that the creators of TVD and Nancy Drew have shown albeit with varying stages of maturity.
1. The dead parent(s) trope:
Both TVD and ND start with the protagonist, a young girl in the age range of 17-18 losing either one (Nancy- Kate) or both parents (Elena- Grayson & Miranda). In TVD, the effect of the loss is downplayed to purple prose/angsty monologues/an excuse to visit the cemetary. We see no actual emotional vulnerability of losing a parent shining through, nor any financial consequences. In ND, we see the death of her mother making Nancy's life reel back, making her do things she never thought she could do (despise with her dad and his grieving methods, tank her grades, ditch her plans for Columbia). We also see Carson trying to deal with the bills later on throughout season 1 and 2 and also the aftereffects of the grief with his rebellious daughter: side storylines that exists to maintain the reality that a loss isn't always an emotional but a financial and a mental one as well.
Tumblr media
2. Person of colour treatment:
Bonnie Bennett is the resident witch of Mystic Falls, our favorite go-to for the residence of power. It was good that TVD creators 'gave' her that much power but it was barely consequential to the plot as her character plainly existed to be a magical power bank. Bonnie was undertreated, underrated, purposely given lines like "Can I say she's a tranny mess", made a supernatural racist (there's a difference between dislike for other supernatural species and constantly planning their demise because they are 'monsters'). Moreover, all black/brown people in TVD were either witchy sidekicks or killed inconsequentially. In ND, one of of the main characters is Nick whose storyline evolves to erase the myth of internal racism, the senseless 'I will judge you mercilessly because others judge me' trope. He is treated like any normal character, but the writers have been careful and true to the heritage by including plotlines that would make Nick stand out as (a) an individual character (b) a person of colour with the most heart touching and realistic behaviour. The same can be said about the Asian American character George Fan, who is a hero in her own right. Amanda Bobbsey is shown to have her own dreams out of the town and is currently in pursuit of them. Gil Bobbsey is a bad example, I know. The fact that he is stereotyped into all the preconceived notions about South Asian men is the only thing that irritates me. Fortunately, we're getting Tom Swift as the spinoff with Tian Richards playing the handsome lead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Antagonists who turn out to be morally grey and wronged in their past
TVD creator and executive producer has, on many occasions, boasted her syntax of giving every villain a tragic backstory to redeem them. Katherine Pierce, Klaus Mikaelson, Esther, Rebekah, Sybil etc. Sorry to break it to you but a tragic backstory doesn't redeem all the horrible evil things they've done, it just makes them more human while STILL committing the wrongs. Writing an evil character to stay evil, but as a humanised evil, is established in ND with the Aglaeca who is actually the soul of a French heiress turned into a sea monster. Odette Lamar was wronged by her husband, her life taken aboard a ship in a very brutal sequence of events and her fortune hijacked by her sailor husband Captain Marvin. The writers made sure to distinguish between the supernatural evil Aglaeca that Odette had become versus the still grieving human anger of Odette's ghost.
Tumblr media
4. Adoption storyline:
Elena Gilbert was John Gilbert and Isobel Flemming's daughter, raised by Grayson and Miranda Gilbert as their own after Isobel gave her up post partum. In TVD, Elena, once getting to know this news, doesn't express any humane emotion of being bereaved of an identity (which is the reaction expected). Though she tries to look for Isobel and vents on Damon when she gets to know of his relationship with her birth mother (still gross btw), she barely deals with it. The storyline would more or less remain the same if Elena wasn't Isobel and John's daughter (make Miranda a descendant of Katherine and boom). But in ND, Nancy finds out that she was adopted even when she doesn't ask for it. The fact doesn't come out of nowhere, the reasons and foreshadowing are laid out there like breadcrumbs from the moment the pilot's story begins. Nancy going through the loss of identity phase and the 'grieving someone I don't even know' phase is beautifully crafted. Nothing is added just for the drama, there is a meaning behind it.
5. Small towns, bonus- surrounded by woods:
Mystic Falls is supposed to be a souther small town larger than life, always hosting council parties that aspire to be the Virginian version of Gossip Girl. The writers just considered the town a backdrop but didn't venture at all into making it seem like a real-life community. In Horseshoe Bay, a coastal town in Maine that was filled with superstitions and gossip mongers, there is an effort to make some of the town events actually hold meaning to the plotline or to realize the image of the community itself - we have history buffs actually seen doing history research, archaeological digging, pageant queens having snobby rivalry, flower shops, cafes, indirect racism (which is more prevalent irl than you might think) etc. Even 3 season in, Horseshoe Bay of Nancy Drew is more fleshed out of a town than Mystic Falls ever was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Toxic men:
Okay, big setback for all Damon and Delena stans, but canon!Damon was toxic af. He made decisions for Elena, killed people for her and pretended he did her a favour and let's not even talk about the sire bond or the cure hunt or the killing Jeremy storyline. Elena actually got an endgame with such a personality, which is a supremely bad example. Because though Damon had turned over a new leaf after season 6, he had still been horrible to Elena while she was still alive and not in the coma. In ND, Gil Bobbsey is the toxic man. Manipulative even with his sister, desperate for attention, ready to bereave Nancy of her friends just to get her for himself, that kind of toxic. And because of this, it is extremely satisfying to see the toxic man NOT get the girl for once. Nancy dumps his ass when she realizes the effect his gaslighting had on her life. Go Nancy!
Tumblr media
7. The 'older men who want to show the girl all the world has to offer' trope:
There isn't a soul in the TVD fandom who hasn't smiled at Klaroline at least once. Klaus is the man who has lived longer than Caroline and exudes the wordly riches vibe. Caroline is a small town girl who dreams about all that the world has to offer. Klaus more than once propositions a getaway to all places like Paris to show her the taste of love and history and art. It would have been a good dynamic if only Klaus weren't a literal heart-wrenching, boyfriend-enslaving, mom-killing supernatural psychopath with anger and daddy issues. In ND, Nancy has Owen - a relatively older businessman (not too old, a human age gap) who enables Nancy's need to get away from her life in her town by offering her a trip to New York while they're dating. Owen's a pretty vanilla guy, and among his sole purposes was this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. No one dies and when they do, they don't:
Bonnie Bennett is crying from hysterics at this. We've seen her die so many times and every time, Julie went 'Ha no that was just a test speed bump, Bonnie is actually alive lol'. After the first three times, it became as overlooked as Dean's deaths in Mystery Spot. Elena died thrice, Damon and Stefan too. Alaric and Matt are cackling. The thing is, the writers can kill off their characters and revive them as long as it has some meaning. Sometimes not everything exists to further the plot, it also needs its own air to breathe as a concept. In ND, George dies because of an impalement. But Nancy, in her desperation to save her friend, revives her with the shroud. This is indeed consequential to the plot and also to George as a character when she is challenged to share her mental space with the trauma of being revived as well as now sharing her body with a French lady's ghost.
9. Vintage cars (and beaten down trucks):
Damon and Stefan, both, are proud owners of old classic cars (Chevy Camaro and Porsche respectively). I'm going to make a very specific joke here and say they love their cars on fire. Though we often see Damon's possessive side over his car, I find Ace's relationship with Florence nore endearing and calm. After seeing Dean Winchester loving Baby more than his dad, and Damon and Stefan leveraging towns over their own cars, Ace's sweet talks to Florence makes my heart to plop. Nancy also has her mother's blue Mustang (book classic). Both Matt Donovan (TVD) and Nick (ND) have the same type and colour of truck too but Nick's holds a bit higher canon significance (what with them dying in it and all)
10. Whole town under mysterious hypnotic influencing:
I'll write this comparison after ND 3x04 or 3x05 comes out but I'm somehow sure that they're going to do it better than TVD season 5 Silas
(I haven't mentioned sexual representation as a point because TVD didn't have much diversified sexual representation to begin with and though lesbian relationships are a big strp from that in ND, I do wish there was more differences in sexualities written into the show)

I'm actually watching the new Roswell, NM and I've stumbled across the anti carina tag due to some drama on her twitter. I don't understand what all the hate is about though, I never watch TVD or TO so am at a loss. Any chance of a quick summary? I'm worried about investing in RNM if there's a problematic show runner.
If it’s Twitter drama that first got your attention that’s where I’ll start.
TVD and TO have some of the most unprofessional crew I’ve ever seen. Julie Plec (who, while not showrunner, is an exec producer) has repeatedly started up drama to try to get various different facets of her shows’ fandoms to fight each other. She outright demonized one group and made it out like they were a bunch of basement dwelling psychos trying to ruin the show and the lives of everyone involved. Also, Plec is an expert at throwing people under the bus. If an idea lands well, then it was her idea. If it flops, then it was someone else’s and she had nothing to do with it. She did this to three people that I know of, all of whom wound up leaving.
Carina Mackenzie is effectively Julie Plec’s protege, and shows a lot of the same attitude. Starting twitter fights and then trying to play the victim. During season 3 or so of TO, someone involved in production got annoyed enough at someone or something that they started sending out spoilers. This was mostly in the form of anon asks to @klarolinedrabbles and @hellsbellschime. Carina tried to make them (mostly hellsbellschime even though she wasn’t the one who got most of the spoilers) out to be misogynistic harpies who were trying to sabotage the entire show…via answering anons on tumblr blogs.
Now then, onto the meat of it all: the writing on the show.
Julie Plec and Carina Mackenzie are awful writers. Seriously, Mackenzie published a book that @cbk1000 did a read through of it and it is bad. The prose is bad, the grammar sucks, the characters are idiots. And while a writer on TO, Mackenzie’s episodes were almost always of lesser quality. Their writing is also very plot oriented as opposed to character motivated. They come up with an idea and then hack at the characterization until the characters will do it, whether it makes sense for that character or not
But beyond that, The Originals is the most misogynistic show I have ever seen. The entire premise of it is built on the fact that Klaus’ daughter, who in season 1 was not even born yet, will heal 1,000 years worth of parental issues, abandonment issues, possessiveness, sadism, cruelty and a bunch of other things because Klaus Mikaelson was a horrible person who really should not have been raising children. And this theme of ‘it is the duty of the child to therapize their parent and make them better’ is something that comes up repeatedly throughout the series and it is not something the audience is meant to question.
@hellsbellschime did a good meta on two of the most prominent female characters on TO Camille O’Connell and Davina Claire (http://hellsbellschime.tumblr.com/post/143777003046/cami-davina-and-the-problem-with-women-on-the).
TVD is grossly misogynistic as well, Caroline’s mom gets brain cancer and that entire plot was contrived as a way to guilt Stefan into dating her. A lesbian couple commit suicide because one of them gets infected with a fatal blood born illness
Bonnie Bennett, resident witch and only black woman in TVD literally died at one point and none of her friends noticed. She had a guy who could talk to the dead send text messages and post cards (WHICH WOULD BE WRITTEN IN HIS HANDWRITING) but no one hears her voices for months. No one tries to call her after her father gets murdered. The only realize it when they need her to do something and she isn’t there. Which is a constant for her. She’s the one who fixes everything, she has to stand tall, bury her pain which no one will help her heal from, and fix other people’s problems.
Sorry this is rambly, and there are over a thousand other things but the gist is: Julie Plec and Carina Mackenzie are awful writers. Their writing is misogynistic, homophobic, racist and just all around bad. From what I’ve heard, they already sidelined one of the major characters after casting a black woman to play her.
My honest advice would be to stop watching. It’s not worth it to get invested in their work because their work is shit. They do not care about their characters, they do not care about their audience and in my opinion they do not deserve to be employed in the industry.

Rebecca West (wikipedia)
Dame Cicily Isabel Fairfield DBE (21 December 1892 – 15 March 1983), known as Rebecca West, or Dame Rebecca West, was a British author, journalist, literary critic and travel writer. An author who wrote in many genres, West reviewed books for The Times, the New York Herald Tribune, the Sunday Telegraph, and The New Republic, and she was a correspondent for The Bookman. Her major works include Black Lamb and Grey Falcon (1941), on the history and culture of Yugoslavia; A Train of Powder (1955), her coverage of the Nuremberg trials, published originally in The New Yorker; The Meaning of Treason (1949), later The New Meaning of Treason (1964), a study of the trial of the British fascist William Joyce and others; The Return of the Soldier (1918), a modernist World War I novel; and the "Aubrey trilogy" of autobiographical novels, The Fountain Overflows (1956), This Real Night (published posthumously in 1984), and Cousin Rosamund (1985). Time called her "indisputably the world's number one woman writer" in 1947. She was made CBE in 1949, and DBE in 1959, in each case, the citation reads: "writer and literary critic". She took the pseudonym "Rebecca West" from the rebellious young heroine in Rosmersholm by Henrik Ibsen. She was a recipient of the Benson Medal.
Fiction
*Indissoluble Matrimony (1914), a controversial short story which was first published in Blast No. 1. Edited by Yolanda Morató for the Spanish publishing house Zut, it was also published in the Spanish edition of Blast No. 1 (Madrid: Juan March Foundation, 2010). This novella challenges many issues about feminism and women's involvement in politics in pre-war Britain. *The Return of the Soldier (1918), the first World War I novel written by a woman, about a shell-shocked, amnesiac soldier returning from World War I in hopes of being reunited with his first love, a working-class woman, instead of continuing to live with his upper-class wife. *The Judge (1922), a brooding, passionate novel combining Freudian Oedipal themes with suffragism and an existential take on cosmic absurdity. *Harriet Hume (1929), a modernist story about a piano-playing prodigy and her obsessive lover, a corrupt politician. *The Harsh Voice: Four Short Novels (1935), contains the short story "The Salt of the Earth," featuring Alice Pemberton, whose obsessive altruism becomes so smothering that her husband plots her murder. This was adapted for "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" as "The Paragon" starring Joan Fontaine (season 1, episode 20) in 1963. An additional story from the collection, "There is No Conversation" is the tale of a romance as told in hindsight by both parties, one a caddish Frenchman and the other a coarse American woman. This story was adapted for an hour-long radio drama in 1950 on NBC University Theatre and featured a commentary on West's story and writing skills by Katherine Anne Porter. *The Thinking Reed (1936), a novel about the corrupting influence of wealth even on originally decent people. Perhaps a disguised self-critique of her own elegant lifestyle. *The Fountain Overflows (1956), a semi-autobiographical novel weaving a fascinating cultural, historical, and psychological tapestry of the first decade of the 20th century, reflected through the prism of the gifted, eccentric Aubrey family. *This Real Night (1984), sequel to The Fountain Overflows published posthumously *Cousin Rosamund (1985), final, unfinished installment of the "Aubrey Trilogy" published posthumously. *The Birds Fall Down (1966), spy thriller based on the deeds of the historical double agent Yevno Azef. *Sunflower (1986), published posthumously, about a tense love-relationship between an actress and a politician, reminiscent of West's relationship with H. G. Wells. *The Sentinel (2002), edited by Kathryn Laing and published posthumously, West's very first extended piece of fiction, an unfinished novel about the suffragist struggle in Britain, including grim scenes of female incarceration and force-feeding.
Non-fiction
*Henry James (1916) *The Strange Necessity: Essays and Reviews (1928), a blend of modernist literary criticism and cognitive science, including a long essay explaining why West disliked James Joyce's Ulysses, though she judged it an important book *Ending in Earnest: A Literary Log (1931) *Arnold Bennett Himself, John Day (1932) *St. Augustine (1933), first psycho-biography of the Christian Church Father *The Modern Rake's Progress (co-authored with cartoonist David Low) (1934) *Black Lamb and Grey Falcon (1941), a 1,181-page classic of travel literature, giving an account of Balkan history and ethnography, and the significance of Nazism, structured around her trip to Yugoslavia in 1937 *The Meaning of Treason (1949) *The New Meaning of Treason (1964) *A Train of Powder (1955) *The Court and the Castle: some treatments of a recurring theme (1958), excellent revisionist interpretations of literary classics, including Hamlet and Kafka's stories *1900 (1982), cultural history and fascinating "thick description" of this pivotal year *The Young Rebecca (1982), West's early, radical journalism for The Freewoman and Clarion, edited by Jane Marcus *Family Memories: An Autobiographical Journey (1987), West's autobiographical musings which remained unpublished during her life, assembled and edited by Faith Evans *The Selected Letters of Rebecca West (2000), edited by Bonnie Kime Scott *Survivors in Mexico (2003), posthumous work about West's two trips to Mexico in 1966 and 1969, edited by Bernard Schweizer *Woman as Artist and Thinker (2005), re-issues of some of West's best essays, together with her short-story "Parthenope" *The Essential Rebecca West: Uncollected Prose (2010)

@insanislupus, gets a little thing from bonnie bennett.
Tumblr media
" what was that back there? " arms crossed against her chest, the little brunette stared at the blonde, eyes showing anger when a shake of her head is given to the other. " she is just a friend, jackie. why did you have to be so... arrogant like that? she was uncomfortable during the whole dinner. " jealousy was a good look on her, she has to admit that. what she doesn't love though, was the fact that what her behavior screamed to the world was, she's my mate, not yours. something she has to get used to since she was dating a werewolf now. " i know your kind are very... overprotective and territorial, but i want you to understand that i will have girl who are my friends. the sooner you accept that, the better. "

bb. she wanted to forget her legacy. she wanted to live her life as a future adult without having problems or bad people around her. around her best friends. even though she knew deep down that it was going to be impossible, especially when it came to protecting one of them, she would have to accept now that being the only witch in the gang was beneficial for their future. brown eyes trailing on the young salvatore, bonnie couldn't help but add with a sigh. " if i say yes to helping you now, you promise it's the first and last time this will happen ? i may be nice now but i can be very mean when necessary. "

For the week of 1 April 2019
Quick Bits:
Amazing Spider-Man #18.HU is Gibbon’s tale from Nick Spencer, Ken Lashley, Erick Arciniega, and Joe Caramagna. It’s a gut punch, a kick in the teeth, a few tosses against a tree, and then an attempt to turn you into a porcupine via arrows. While it does do a good job of telling Gibbon’s tale and attempting to make you care about him, it’s not a pleasant comic. It’s kicking the crap out of a z-list character to make you feel “the stakes” and this is really starting to feel cheap. Maiming and killing characters to up the gravity of a story, especially ones we’ve not see for some time, it’s not fun. It’s not shocking. And I’m tired of it. Which is somewhat sad, because this is some of the best art I’ve seen from Ken Lashley for a while. He seems to be channelling bits of Jack Kirby and Keith Giffen into his normal style and it looks really damn good.

Amber Blake #1 is another partnership with Glénat in France, this one a fairly moody crime story from Jade Lagardère, Butch Guice, Christa Miesner, and Robbie Robbins. It’s a fairly dark beginning, delving into sexual assault and human trafficking, but interesting. The art from Guice is incredible.

Avengers: No Road Home #8 breaks out some art from Carlo Barberi as we head towards the home stretch of this series. Very nice character moments for Hawkeye, Hercules, and Conan this issue, though the build up of seemingly insurmountable odds from Nyx is adding some incredible tension.

Bronze Age Boogie #1 launches Ahoy’s second wave of series and it’s awesome. The lead story is a bizarre mix of Doom Patrol-esque superheroes, Planet of the Apes alternate realities, and a teenager from nearly 4000 years ago fighting in a world of wizards and zombies. It’s glorious madness from Stuart Moore, Alberto Ponticelli, Giulia Brusco, and Rob Steen with so many ideas you can barely keep up. Rounding out this issue is the usual prose pieces and a wonderful back-up comic of Major Ursa, an astronaut bear, from Tyrone Finch, Mauricet, Lee Loughridge, and Steen that elevates the entire package even further.

Champions #4 unleashes Kaldera on the team looking to get revenge on Sam, while Miles and Kamala have a confrontation about what happened in Dubai. Lots of wonderful emotion in this one, beautifully depicted by Steven Cummings and Marcio Menyz. Also, Kaldera wanting to eat everyone is just weird.

Conan the Barbarian #5 is another great issue from Jason Aaron, Mahmud Asrar, Matthew Wilson, and Travis Lanham. This one taps into Conan’s life as a thief and a pirate while unleashing eldritch horrors from stealing the wrong idol. Great tentacle beasts and a wonderful feeling of dread throughout the story as Conan fights to survive adrift at sea.

Dead Kings #4 gives us some more dark humour as Maria and Sasha get closer to launching the rescue attempt on the prison, while Gena plans a little revolt of his own. Great artwork from Matthew Dow Smith and Lauren Affe.

Deathstroke #42 continues the “Terminus Agenda” crossover with Teen Titans as Slade looses the bonds of his prison in Robin’s underground supervillain jail, then hangs about and seemingly attempts to needle Damian as their attempt to take down another villain goes awry. This story is odd, but entertaining. Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan, Jason Paz, Norm Rapmund, Jeromy Cox, and Willie Schubert are doing something interesting here.

Die #5 gives us the conclusion to the first arc and it’s pretty dark. Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles make us question here whether or not our heroes actually are “good” as they systematically start to take apart some of Sol’s toys in order to try to get home. Also, there are some horrifying hints at worse things waiting.

Giant Days #49 sees Esther go back home for Easter break to try to write her dissertation. And fight a vampire with the 11-year old sister of one of her friends. Wonderful bit of how time changes you from John Allison, Max Sarin, Whitney Cogar, and Jim Campbell.

Tumblr media
The Girl in the Bay #3 chronicles a bit of Hugh’s side of the story to his monstrous clay-like hallucination buddy, as Kathy continues to try to make sense of her double existence and the older version of her’s death. There’s definitely something else at play here as JM DeMatteis, Corin Howell, James Devlin, and Clem Robins keep building this mystery.
| Published by Dark Horse / Berger Books
Tumblr media
The Green Lantern #6 is relatively muted compared to previous issues, but still has an incredible impact as Hal goes through seemingly the last of the Blackstars’ tests and is granted an audience with Mu, from Grant Morrison, Liam Sharp, Steve Oliff, and Steve Wands. Mu here definitely seems to be insane, which is chilling for someone trying to control everything. There are some very interesting twists throughout, including another form of sacrifice from Hal, leading him to a strange place and a very old character who should give a hint as to where they are now.

Tumblr media
Immortal Hulk #16 is another incredible issue from Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy José, Paul Mounts, and Cory Petit. This team really seems to be able to do no wrong and each subsequent issue is another masterpiece in horror, weaving together an impressive amount of Hulk history in a compelling and enticing way. Along with a very interesting development for Betty.

Impossible Incorporated #5 concludes what has been an excellent all-ages series from JM DeMatteis, Max Cavallaro, and Gabrielle Gomez. This final issue leans heavy into quantum reality and divinity experiencing itself through permutation and self-reflection.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media
Justice League #21 is another interesting chapter in “The Sixth Dimension” from Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sánchez, and Tom Napolitano. This issue it become explicitly clear as to how it progresses the broader arc started in Metal as the stakes seem to be raised again. Stunning art from Jimenez and Sánchez.

Lodger #4 gets a little messy as the Laphams deliver the penultimate chapter of this series, inching closer to Ricky’s final confrontation with Dante. The disparate threads of the past, present, and Dante’s travelogues converge to a very strange perfect storm.
| Published by IDW / Black Crown
Tumblr media
Marvel Team-Up #1 is an entertaining debut from Eve L. Ewing, Joey Vasquez, Felipe Sobreiro, and Clayton Cowles. This first issue teams up Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel presenting both sides to their day as they attend a speech from a noted ESU alumnus who has created a mind transfer device. Those things always go well. There’s some interesting contrast between wanting to be young again and wanting to be older faster.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Oberon #3 continues to twist the tale as Oberon is confounded a bit by what Bonnie isn’t, from Ryan Parrott, Miloš Slavković, and Charles Pritchett. It seems as though nothing is as it seems in this story which leads to some intriguing surprises.
| Published by AfterShock
Tumblr media
The Punisher #10 has some great incidental humour as Frank continues to cut a swath across a country of villains in “War in Bagalia”. Very entertaining work again from Matthew Rosenberg, Szymon Kudranski, Antonio Fabela, and Cory Petit.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Red Sonja #3 is another excellent part of the story from Mark Russell, Mirko Colak, Bob Q, Dearbhla Kelly, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. This one hits hard on the value of mercenaries and what actually breeds loyalty.
| Published by Dynamite
Tumblr media
Self/Made #5 takes off in yet another direction as Amala tracks down a scientist who has been searching for proof that ours is not the top level reality and is actually another simulation. It’s truly amazing as to how Mathew Groom, Eduardo Ferigato, Marcelo Costa, Mariana Calil, and Troy Peteri keep turning this story on a dime, with new revelations and new changes each issue without any of it feeling like a trick and delivering an engrossing narrative each time.

Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider #7 focuses on some of the odd jobs that Gwen is getting through her website, pushes forward the problems she’s having with her headaches, and complicates her personal life a bit more. Seanan McGuire is very nicely developing Gwen’s character and relationships, all with some beautiful artwork from Takeshi Miyazawa and Ian Herring.

Summit #14 concludes this arc with Val and co. attempting to rescue Fiona and JB from Agent Wald’s clutches. The team-up with Noble and further development of Jamila helps re-emphasize the broader shared universe of Catalyst Prime. Also, how far all of the astronauts involved in the Event have come. Gorgeous artwork from Marika Cresta and Bryan Valenza.

War of the Realms #1 begins the culmination of almost seven years worth of storytelling as Malekith’s forces finally invade Earth. This is epic. Young Justice #4 goes into some of the politics and problems that Amethyst was having on Gemworld prior to the disparate youth of Young Justice arriving to the realm. @salvatoraes, stefan salvatore sent to bonnie bennett: you stay here . they're trying to kill me.
Tumblr media
bonnie's eyes were on alert, the danger she was facing clearly visible on her expression. it can't happen right now. they had a way in. they hadn't talked about a plan yet, but with her power and his vampire ability, she thought they would have a chance into saving more people from that evil group. but now, everything was ruined. why would they try to do something like this without talking about a plan first? why would they put themselves in danger when they should have just walk away? question that was left unanswered as her voice trembled slightly, her hands gripping stefan tighly by the arm. " what are you doing? if i have to stay there, you stay here too! ” she said, her tone leaving no room for argument. " they’re not here for you, they're here for me, stefan. i don't want you to come. " she took a step closer to him, her voice dropping to a whisper as she continued. " if you come with me, it’ll only put you and the rest of the gang in danger, and i can’t have that on my conscience. " she know it was a suicide missions. the thing is, she didn't wanted to live in a world where her friends weren't there to witness the happy thing in life. letting a tear slide down her face, she whispered a spell that forbade him to follow her as she turned around, smiling. " just trust me on this, okay? i will find a way out of this. you know i always do. but it will have to be without you or the others following me. " with that being said, she left his sight, awaiting for the worst to come her way. what they don't know though, was, that bonnie bennett never run or hide. she face and is willing to take any risk to save what she cherished most in this world: her family.

bonnie eyed camille with a mixture of curiosity and caution. " you know, you have this way of showing up just when things get interesting, " she said, her tone both welcoming and wary. she folded her arms and leaned against the brick wall, studying camille. " i’m guessing you didn’t come here just for the company, " bonnie continued, a small smile playing on her lips. " so, what’s your angle? or should i just assume it’s something big? "

bb. she liked people who were interested in her. it's not every day that someone would ask questions like, " how are you ? " or, " can I help you ? ". it reminded her that she wasn't only there when people needed her. even if she couldn't blame anyone. she never said no when it came to helping others, a rare quality that her family tried to make her forget for her own good. she can hear them telling her " you should think of yourself. you always come first. " but why have powers if it's not to help people in need ? being too nice can sometimes backfire on the person. she thought as she looked at the boy who was sitting across from her adding. " i'm bonnie and i have to admit that not worrying about other people is something i should do at least once a week ."
