Protectorate of Menoth battle group.

Woof, the second half of painting these guys took up 90% of the time. It looks like I just slapped some paint on them but the sheer detail creep on these models is astounding. There are so many various material types and patterns that aren't intuitive. There are dozens of decision points regarding which spike or armor plate is what color. This is compounded by the fact that battle group kits were budget plastic kits that were very chunky and gritty. Makes me yearn for metal. My scheme is close to the box art but I went with a cold white by applying a green grey on top of a red grey. Do not blend white with a brush on a large flat surface! you will create a grody texture. Privateer press had their own paint line of menoth white and menoth highlight which are warm yellow whites that I don't care for. I made a token attempt at Object Source Lighting.

The big one is a heavy warjack and they are the most fun to paint. Light warjacks I find are not as fun to paint due to how gangly they are. I like these models, some may dislike how the pose is compromised by the mechanics of the game (how the model is faced matters) But they are cool and I got a bunch of them on clearance.

Probably the last Warmachine mini I’ll do, because I hate Warmachine. Infinity seems kinda interesting, though - I’ll probably sell my unpainted minis for Infinity stuff.

This thing was a nightmare, too. Some 14 parts, only 3 points where gluing differently poses it rather than just makes it look like a disaster. Lots of areas that needed full paint coverage that would not get it fi you painted it disassembled first.

I learned a lot about mounting pieces for painting while working on this. (Notably: use big beefy electronics clamps and then just touch up the bite areas later.)

Some fast and loose fire effects on this, but they turned out pretty well. I’m impressed. (Just put yellow and Ferrari red on a wet palette. Red base, black at the ends of the flames, yellow at the bases, and then blended paint for the mid area.)

I learned that black wash on pale colours doesn’t make them TOO much paler; much better than trying to guess the proper colour to wash them with. (My last crotch banner looked like it was made of caramel....)

Base went really, really well. “Painted” it with white glue, dumped a brown gravel flock mix on it.Then after it dried I soaked some superglue into spots and poured on some grass flock. The grass flock holds better than the non-superglued gravel, of course.

Onto some quick kitbashed buildings next...

1/2 - Some photos of last nights game, we decided that one player would have the package and be making a dash to the boat from the warehouse while the other two were trying to catch them. After dicing for it the protectorate were going to have to make the run, with mercs entering from behind the church and cygnar from the inn side of the board. We timed out but not before the protectorate had done a sneaky double back to cause the mercs and cygnar to start scrapping for the better ambush position. It was fun :)

Last week end was the 2017 edition of Chaos Ludik in Montreal (Qc) and it was my first time attending. It was a great week end, with events for Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40k, Blood Bowl, Warmahordes, Infinity, Saga and Guildball. There also was a painting competition in the building next door.

I participated in the Warmahordes Casual event, which was a smaller, 50 points Steamroller. Most of my friends were competing in either the Blood Bowl tournament, the Age of Sigmar tournaments (yes, plural) or the Warmahordes Masters Steamroller, but my friend Jocelyn M. was in the Casual with me, and so far he is 2-0 with his Retribution of Scyrah army againt me so I really was hoping to face him and get my revenge. 

I only had 1 list, playing Reznik1 and my list was 100% painted.

I won’t go into details as I don’t remember everthing that has happend during the games. My first game was against a fellow Menoth player who dropped a Kreoss2 and he won by assassination after a very effective Feat on his part. My second game was against Khador led by Sorscha1. My opponent was still learning the ropes and he gave his all but he failed his assassiantion run (I opened my Warcaster a little, and in my opinion he might have used his Feat 1 turn too early) so even after he fled using Wind Rush, I was able to charge his Warcaster with Reznik using Engine of Destruction and I won by assassination.

My last game was the match up I was hoping for, Jocelyn. He is an awesome guy and a great opponent so I know I was in for a fun time. He dropped Ossyan, with a few warjacks and units I had never faced before. Unforunately for him, the dice were not, but really not on his side. I have had some bad rolls before, but rarely of this level. Jocelyn tried his absolute best to keep on smiling, but as he said himself, he “tilted” and it threw him of his game. As his clock went down and down he went “All or nothing” but could not do enough damage to successfully pull an assassination run. I let Reznik do what he does best, and wracked Ossyan.

I was shooting for either Best Sportmanship or Best Painting, and I learned that there was no prize for Best Sport. I hope my painting, finished at 1 AM before the tournament, was good enough… and it was! I finished 4th overall but took home the medal for Best Painted. 

Above are two pics of my army taken by the event’s photographer. I’ll have to take more myself as I have finished painting Reznik1, an Allegiant of the Order of the Fist, a Reckoner Heavy Wajack, a Guardian Heavy Warjack, Wracks and a full unit of Temple Flameguards.

Completed this guy to night, Just in time for month long challenge/contest for a community I am in. So with out further a due I give you the ‘Eye of Truth’ character Warjack to the Warcaster Malekus ‘The Buring Truth’ from the game Warmachine.

I just finished painting my Iron Kingdoms mini for my Protectorate Paladin. Her name is Zakari and she’s very tall, very broad, very quiet. Her job is to protect the heretic gun mage from dying (because he’s dumb) and keep the elf from causing trouble. I’ll have better pictures later when I finish our game and do the basing.
