Carnivean, warbeast
A long time ago, I intended to photograph all tabletop miniatures that I finished painting from around 2010-2013. It's probably better that I did that now instead, having both a better phone camera and an easy way to set up for photos.
I had, and even played, some of the "Legion of Everblight" army from a wargame called "Hordes". It's the only tabletop game where I have ever finished painting the minis (besides the Paranoia RPG minis, but I need to get to those out for a different post someday). I think it helped that they apparently tried to cater to my aesthetic tastes specifically...
The army's concept is basically, endangered winter elves get horribly corrupted, mutated, and controlled by the remaining sliver of an eldritch dragon (who's trying to make up for having it's body destroyed by an even bigger eldritch dragon).
I'll split these into two posts (second post here) so that the body horror can be tagged. This post has the tamer models:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raek, warbeast - (this design is one of the reasons why I have described this army as "xenomorph dragon elves")
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rhyas and Lylyth, warlocks (leaders)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bayal the hound of Everblight, unit attachment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shredder, warbeast - (for some reason I didn't paint the set of 4 together at the same time. That's why there's only one and he has a number 3 on the back)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hex Hunters and Blighted Nyss Legionnaires, units
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The leader models for the same above
I stopped playing because I ultimately realized that wargaming just wasn't for me. At least I can say I gave it a fair shot once upon a time, and more importantly, accrued experience with a form of acrylic painting.

Session One of DnD: Iron Kingdoms Edition COMPLETE! And with no (player) deaths! Admittedly, this first session was intentionally set up to gauge how much more (or less) I needed to adjust combat. Considering we’re playing with....5 ranged DPS and a support caster, I knew it was going to be interesting. Player damage output is about what I expected, gotta tweak enemy health a little (or total numbers), while keeping hostile damage output in mind since the players are all kinda squishy. They do have a warjack (reward for mission complete), which will help soak damage and engage melee targets, but there’s only one of it and a lot of them, so I may give them another ‘tank’ to help as a buffer.
They all seemed to have a lot of fun with plenty of new spells and toys compared to standard 5e, and a few are getting invested in the setting so I’ll take that as a win. They are interested in doing a RP-oriented session next, so I’ll have to get some goodies prepped for that, but they’ll be handling the actual threat of the campaign shortly :D Which I’d love to gush about, but SOMEONE in the party is on here so I have to stay quiet (at least publically :P)

The ungodly realization that not only do I LOOK like a man who spends a lot of time at tabletop game shops, I also SOUND like one. I don't just have the vibe of a man who has opinions on skirmish type war games... I am one...

My Upcoming D&D 5e Campaigns
It occurred to me that Let's Role would be a more universal platform, so it will be my first priority from this point, forth.
Even though my progress is always questionable, and it's not possible to backup on disc, I made my own systems and it's in my hands whether or not "system-breaking" changes will happen, so I can prevent that from happening, myself, when I feel satisfied with my progress in system development.
Obviously, my Iron Kingdoms: Requiem campaign will be in the Iron Kingdoms: Requiem system on Let's Role. If you would like, you could even create your character for my table, right now. The table link hasn't been created, but all you need is a character created under the same system.
As for my Adventures in Oz campaign, I believe I am going to use the base Universal D&D 5E Lite system. There are no changes in 5e rules in the setting and since I need to load in all of the spells from the 5e PHB, as well as setting-specific spells, I believe it would be best to reduce my efforts where they're not necessary. There is enough functionality in Universal D&D 5E Lite to run the Adventures in Oz campaign setting, so I will let it be there. You may also create your characters for my table there at this time, if you'd like.
For both campaign settings, please understand that it will take much more time to load in all of the spells, npcs, images, etc., so if you make your character now, it will more than likely sit there dormant at least until the new year, but you can have it done early if you want to.

Okay, so my DnD game is set in Runeterra. I was doing some session prep today and printing off a card from Legends of Runeterra for NPC art, and I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole. So... here's the best thing in the greater Runeterra canon.
Tumblr media
He is wonderful. For those familiar with LoL but not LoR, he's Malphite's son.
So, turns out that he appears in the extended art of four other cards, and the flavor text of him, those cards, and Malphite all form a tour of the area he lives in narrated by him. Also, I was curious if I could get a plushy of him. The answer is no because Riot seems completely unable to monetize this great game, BUT someone DID make an STL file of him for 3D printing. I have a 3D printer, so I gladly paid the couple of bucks for the files. About 7 hours later...
Tumblr media
The printer kept fucking up his tail for some reason, but I might try again.
Now I haven't talked about this on my blog, but I actually have a decent amount of experience painting minis for Warmachine/Hordes and Malifaux. It's been a while, but I still have paints and gear, so expect further updates.

Rant time
The skaven could've won in the end times. We know that they had the opportunity to contest archaon's landing, and that they had at least 500k rats (a thousand thousand eyes) to do so. While this would not have stopped archaon it would've undoubtedly severely damaged his army. After that the skaven could've applied clan pestilens to ravage his footsoldiers and clan eshin to wreak havoc on his upper command and whatever quality fighters remained (Many heroes of norsca had already fallen by this point). In the meanwhile they could've pitched battles every once in a while as he (presumably) marches on skavenblight to end the skaven. With all this, archaon's army would've surely almost dissolved by the time it was anywhere close to skavenblight in tilea. While archaon himself could likely push forward and battle an effectively infinite horde of ratmen, his soldiers could not and eventually it would be just him left. At that point mass application of clan skryre artillery teams and clan moulder hell-pit abominations would kill or maim/exhaust him enough for the grey seers to pulverise him (as what happenned with morrslieb except archaon isn't a moon). We know that the only thing that can stop the skaven warmachine at full power is nagash with all his strength and chokepoints. The ratmen literally need their own dead turned against them for any enemy to hold them at a STALEMATE, let alone actually WIN.
In conclusion, the rats could've (and should've) beaten archaon.

I'm starting my miniature painting adventure!! Barroth and my displacer beasts had a nice spa day and then got primed! They're sitting inside now as the primer dries fully, but they'll be ready to get painted soon!!! I'm so excited!
I've got a plethora of Animal Adventures dogs and cats and other animals to be painted, in addition to the entire Monster Hunter World board game!! And a few miscellaneous Warmachine and Hordes and Warcaster minis too, but the MonHun and Doggies are my main focus. I picked these ones to start with because displacer beasts have a simple color scheme of mostly black, and Barroth is mostly just browns ~

Bethane, Voice of Everblight & Belphagor. (warlock / leader)
Here is part two of that post about archiving my painted minis from the Legion of Everblight. (i.e. the body horror and gore is in this one). Again these are pretty old ( 2010-2013 ) and I never properly photographed my finished minis until now.
I always thought the concept of this model was pretty cool. She controls her own warbeast, but she can crawl inside its chest and use as a sort of meat suit "power armor" when needed. This was my first experience with putting magnets on a model, as the "open" underside can swap out for an alternative underside that shows her inside wearing the "exosuit". I hope the photos help make it make sense.

The Forsaken, solo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Incubi, unit - (and here's the other reason I describe this as the "Xenomorph Dragon Elf army")
(I have a few more mini models to photograph one day that have nothing to do with this game. Hope I can get to them at some point!)

Why you should try Battletech
If you like Wargames but don’t wanna sell your liver to afford a Warhammer box then I got the game for you. Battletech is a combined arms war game set in a Nobledark setting with a heavy focus on mechs. What are mechs? They are giant walking warmachines. If you like Gundam, Titanfall, Dougram, Macross, than you’d enjoy this setting.
The main appeal to Battletech is that the mechs are treated with semi-realism. Unlike those other franchises things like ammo, weight, heat build up and logistics all play a part. Unlike a game like Warhammer, Battletech is more of a simulator. Your mech can be modified with several variants of the same mech that can change how it’s used drastically. This is tied to your mechs weight class. There are light, medium, heavy and assault. Light mechs don’t have a lot of tonnage but move faster so they’re good as skirmishers or support. Assault mechs carry the most weapons and armor that you could want but are big and slow. There are hundreds of mechs and some of those will have dozens of loadouts and variants.
If this seems like a metagame nightmare, you’d be wrong. Battletech’s immersive approach to mechanics lend itself to having a big focus on roleplaying. This is the game where several mechs are flat out bad and have backstories as money laundering schemes just to make the setting feel more lived in. The Charger is a shitty mech that is fast for an 80 ton Assault mech (so still not that fast) because it’s a stealth scout mech that’s also 30 feet tall.
The setting is also interesting. While not as over the top as 40k’s it’s certainly a fun and wide place to explore. The main setting is the Inner Sphere, a massive region of space extending from Earth that’s dominated by five great houses and their respective nations. They range from aggressive space weebs like the Draconis Combine to United States by way of Yugoslavia that is the Free Worlds League. There’s also Comstar who are like if Verizon became a religion and way too many mercenary companies. If you don’t like space monarchy, you can try the Clans and the Periphery. The clans are like a mix of Red China, Ancient Sparta, Mongol Horde and a dash of bronze age Barbarian. They have 8 foot tall super soldiers with a 50/50 gender ratio and are a freelove society. So a big buff lady can absolutely beat you up lovingly if you want to. The Periphery are space yocals that include Space Texas and what would happen if a bunch of cat girls started a nation based off of Las Vegas.
The number one reason to choose it over Warhammer is that the game has been revitalized with a new line of box sets and a new ttrpg. The box sets are also much more affordable than Warhammer. The beginner box of Battletech is 20 bucks, the core boxset and the Clan Invasion box are 50-60 bucks each. So for the price of one 40k boxset you could get three Battletech boxes. There’s a steady stream of new content and CGL seems to be good about purging chuds on the payrole.
There’s so much more to the franchise but that’s a decent tl;dr
