for an album apparently recorded purely out of spite by the frontman of sisters of mercy just to cockblock a couple of members who'd left the band from using the name, "gift" by the sisterhood actually fucks Supremely hard?? 😳

Stuff i forgot to mention in the prior “what music Wesker likes” post
GOTHIC. MUSIC. This music genre was growing exponentially in popularity in the 80s and 90s. It’s practically impossible he didn’t hear at least one darkwave/etherealwave song. Don’t question why i just know this much about music and who listens to what, i don’t know either. The gothic genres of darkwave and etherealwave are typically listened to by those who listen to other alternative genres as well so its likely that Wesker would.
Specific bands and artists i think he would like and my reasonings for some:
Queen: they’re just good. We all like Queen and you stupid if you don’t. Get offended.
The cure: do i need to explain? A proto-gothic band that made some hit songs, he has at LEAST heard of them
Depache mode: similar to the cure, he’s at least heard of them. Their music was and still is incredibly popular, even people outside the gothic and alternative scene have heard enjoy the silence.
Rammstein:i do believe he listens to metal, given my personality based assumption. Rammstein is a great stadium industrial metal band with a large following. Formed in the mid nineties, he has probably heard some of their music. I this he would definitely listen to was ich leiber
Beyoncé: she rose in popularity in the late nineties in destiny’s child and that mixed with the genre of music alone… i have already explained why i think he would listen to that. She gain her own following as time progressed and in certain he was involved in that fanbase.
Ninja sex party: HEAR ME OUT. We all have a comedy singer we like and i think he would like these guys, that is if he would have been alive to see it. Most of the music dose fall into 80s and 90s nostalgia type which would strike a chord with him most likely. They’re also very funny and some of their jokes are things i just think he would find funny. I know ots a stretch but hear. Me. Out.
AC/DC: once more, do i need to explain? Everyone, and i mean everyone agrees that they make good music and i think Wesker would too.
KISS: bro listens to “god gave rock and roll to you” and “i was made for loving you” as he drives to work. Change my mind.
Def lepard: a popular and great rock band from the 80s and 90s. Im hell bent he listens to them. They were extremely popular and even performed in the Freddy mercury memorial performance. They made many good song i think he would LOVE eg; photograph, love bites, women, rocket and kick.

Are there any goth covers of "Sixteen Tons?" I don't care what subgenre (darkwave, gothic rock, trad post-punk, etc); I just want one. If it doesn't exist yet, I give all the musicians following me full permission to rip off this idea.

Every immeasurably annoying Normie™ that went on and on about the (Big Titty) Goth GF shit (or any variation of it) is legally obliged to try goth music in depth since apparently “spooky season” began. NOT ONLY THE MEN, but especially the men.

Deadly Pallor, but literally: racism in the goth subculture.
Deathrock: truly goth, or simply a very close friend?
A history of Goth & Rivethead solidarity (and how cyber“goths” ruined it).
Fast Fashion, Instagram & Influencers: The commodification and near destruction of a subculture.
The “G-word”, curious 90s-00s self-denial: every TRUE goth denies that they’re a goth.
Goth Didn’t Die In The 80s OH MY GOD Please Stop Saying That.
Deconstructing the belief that you don’t need to listen to goth to be a goth. ----OR---- You know damn well that you wouldn’t apply the same logic to metalheads, emos and punks.
Proper goth nightclub etiquette: how to behave like a normal person when no one looks normal.
Goth femininity: How a highly feminized subculture keeps ignoring the contributions of its female participants (outside of modeling).
If you fail to deliver this report in time, you WILL be obliterated by a laser of destruction shot from space. If you make it and your work is good, you get to live through Halloween.

Ghost Frog Trace Bigfoot’s Steps in Trippy New Vid!
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate

By now, most of us living on pandemic planet can probably identify with these two words: "Permanent Hermit." But it's not just the lifestyle we've become accustomed to (or sick of) in this strange, disruptive epoch; it's also the title that graces the latest music video by PNW sound savants GHOST FROG.
I got turned onto these wonderful weirdos over the holiday break and loved their wildly inventive stoner-garage rock meets proto-punk meets darkwave vibe on Astral Arcade. So much so that I added it to Doomed & Stoned's list of "The 25 Most STONED Albums of 2020!"
Some buzz:
Written from the perspective of a misanthropic loner living off the grid and avoiding human contact at all costs, the premise of the song "Permanent Hermit" by paranormal stoner punk Ghost Frog, off their latest album Astral Arcade, resonates with these intensely isolated times, and also brings to mind a certain infamously illusive and legendary mythical creature who has long been rumored to reside within the forests of America’s majestic Pacific Northwest, from where the band also hails (Portland, Oregon).

Performance Photos by Jesse Moore
Hence, it was pretty much a no-brainer for the band, which describes themselves as “inspired by and obsessed with all things pertaining to the paranormal,” to make a cryptozoology themed music video for this monstrous sounding single, so they recruited a film crew comprised of Cody Pullman, and Brandtly Carrow, of the video production company Obscure Visual Arts, and set out deep into the heart of the Oregon woods hoping to catch a glimpse of the fabled Bigfoot.

What they ended up discovering was perhaps much more than they bargained for, however, as they haven’t been seen or heard from since, with their VHS cameras containing this footage you are about to witness being the only belongings of theirs that have been discovered after an extensive search of the area where they were last seen. The footage also offers the only clues as to what horrid fate might have befallen these brave, poor souls, as well as some of the best evidence to date towards proving the existence of the mysterious man-beast in question.
WARNING: the following footage may be disturbing to some viewers. Watch at your own peril!

And now, prepare yourself, as Doomed & Stoned brings you the worldwide premiere of "Permanent Hermit"!
Give ear...

SEEK INSPIRATION: a playlist of various songs that inspired me during the creation of "Seek Comfort". Yes, this is deeply indebted to the ID:YD feature with Male Tears breaking down their influences, but I've long kept extensive notes on my songwriting process and am always excited to talk about the various ways my music comes together.
SEEK COMFORT // 40 Watt Sun - Reveal Patrick Walker is a brilliant songwriter, especially when it comes to his use of negative space and slow, subtle melodic shifts. As you're probably aware, I'm generally allergic to songs of this length, yet somehow he enables 9 minutes to pass almost effortlessly and then that final lift at the end is absolute magic. Needless to say, I take copious influence from Walker's craftmanship, but nowhere more evident than on "Seek Comfort".
DEVOTIONAL // Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American Hate to break it to you: "Devotional" is a pop-punk song and "Bleed American" is top-tier pop-punk. I'm not really borrowing anything specific from this particular track, but I've listened to this album so much that there's no doubt it has greatly influenced on my songwriting. To be fair though, I've also been writing/playing pop-punk since the mid-90s; I just don't usually allow those elements to creep into Harsh R material.
ARE YOU MY PEOPLE? // Distel - Majestik Distel's music is inherently unsettling and that's a feeling I often seek to emulate. Sparse rhythms + discordant tones is always the way.
HIDING PLACE // Die Kreuzen - Gone Away I celebrate the entire Die Kreuzen catalog, from their USHC classic self-titled debut all the way through to their proto-grunge/glam ends, but it's the quieter songs that have always been my favorite. In this particular instance, I'm referencing their mix of aggressiveness and vulnerability for my lyrics and performance -- readily apparent here on "Gone Away", but a common theme across their entire discography.
I WAS NEVER THERE // Kowloon Walled City - Backlit Ok, this one is a straight-up KWC rip. Much like 40 Watt Sun, KWC are another fine example of a band with a masterful approach to space and dynamics. There's a very good reason I had Scott Evans mix my earlier material.
INSTAGRAM WITCH // Trepaneringsritualen - Black Egg The music on this one is essentially my attempt at "P_rnogr_phy"-era Cure, but TRP was a direct reference for the vocal, especially for the timbre on the loud part. Otherwise: magic and darkness, secrets and light.
EMPTY SHELL (ft. RUNOTI) // Years of Denial - Human You Scare Me I've long been a huge fan of European-style darkwave and I think my record shows a marked shift towards that style, but it's most apparent on "Empty Shell". Years of Denial are easily my current favorite genre stalwarts, though they go further by incorporating elements of techno, noise, and beyond; I spend a lot of time picking apart their songwriting and production choices and do my best to incorporate some of those ideas into my own music.
REMEMBER DEATH // Merle Haggard - If We Make It Through December If you want to learn how to write a song then you learn from the best, and there is no one better than Merle Haggard. The chord changes and phrasing in "If We Make It Through December" are subtle and sublime; you'd probably never notice the intricacies until you try to play it yourself and that's exactly what I did. Or at least tried to do - this one goes a fair bit beyond my skill level and it's that challenge that pushes me to strive harder.
WAVE GOODBYE // Sevdaliza - Darkest Hour I've spent a solid amount of time with Sevdaliza's masterpiece "Shabrang" over the past few years (massive thanks to Terror Apart for the tip!) and there are so many ways it has affected me, but it's definitely the emotional tone that hits hardest, like a dark force pressing down on your soul. Also: it's not employed so much on "Darkest Hour", but I absolutely love the way the Sevdaliza manipulates her vocals and that's definitely something I'll be carrying forward into whatever I do next.
For non-Spotify users, check out the BNDCMPR playlist below. It's missing the major-label tracks, but you can always find those on youtube or elsewhere.

Best Of 2018
Can I just not comment on the year overall and get to the good stuff? Cool.
Here are our top albums of 2018, in alphabetical order, with a few honorable mentions and a mix to download that cherry-picks a song from each of the listed albums. Cheers!

Actors - It Will Come To You Full kudos and props to Aversionline (who have been doling out primo reviews, resulting in many purchases since the early 2000s) to keying us in to this one... in fact he said it best, “Thoroughly impresses with its cinematically synthwaved brand of forlorn-yet-danceable post-punk that wanders through an early-2000's Interpol type of take on such influences; plus a lush, modernized air of darkness that brings individuality to Actors' approach.”
The Body - I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer This Portland duo continues the expansion of their sound, going beyond avant-noise-metal-experimentalism and further into electronic realms. The addition of female vocals on multiple tracks, ranging from angelic to war cries, along with carefully placed stringed instrumentation, expand their sonic palate even further. Post-future primitivism at its best.
Candy - Good To Feel Metallic hardcore that’s short, sweet, and to the point (oh, and pissed off). Most reviews/reviewers are really patting themselves on the back as they specifically codify the various genres/scenes this record touches on... However, the most telling thing: this album is nine songs in 18 minutes.
Convulsing - Grievous Admittedly, this is the album on our list, we still need to spend more time with (the average song length is about eight and a half minutes - usually that puts our guard up fast)... but it’s been captivating to see the balance between the visceral heaviness (and speed) when delivered with deliberate, unfolding song structures (RIYL: Ulcerate).
Del Judas - Deity Dark, gothy rock/americana - not unlike King Dude’s earlier releases, but with higher production value and delivered with more impassioned vocals, like from some of the acts of the 80s that crossed over from this style into pop culture (e.g. The Cult, The Church, etc.)
Harm’s Way - Posthuman Metallic HxC that brings the meathead grooves, perfect for working out. Heavy.
Holygram - Modern Cults Drab Majesty didn’t put out a record in 2018 (booo!), but here’s the next best thing. Holygram add a little tweak to the gothy-dancy-yet-mopey post-punk/new-wave motif but introduce a little lightness via shoegaze washes ala White Lies or The Weekend.
Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods Zero innovation has never been more welcome. Icy black metal from the masters, no Abbath - no problem, with just a touch of the classic and anthemic mid-era Bathory. There might be a slight dose of monotony throughout the album as a whole, but when the nostalgia of this sound and style hits, it’s easy to be forgiving.
Jaye Jayle - No Trail And Other Unholy Paths Rustic Americana from the frontman of Young Widows. Vacillates between “dusty ‘ol west” and “noir movie scene with protagonist looking out the cab window driving by a rainy city and grimy neon lights” - each modality is weary and searching.
Jesus Piece - Only Self When there was a face we wanted to melt this year, the song turned to the most was “Punish” from Jesus Piece. Pitch perfect late 90s/early 2000′s metallic hardcore channeled through a modern lens (and yea, yea, some reviews will probably mention the latter half of the record experimenting with more noisy, doomy songs - they’re cool too).
youtube
Kælan Mikla - Nótt Eftir Nótt Icelandic trio that nails the coldwave balance, sometimes teetering into dance territory, sometimes pulling back into melancholic pop, often reminiscent of Ladytron (who we love).
King Dude - Music To Make War To Shouldn’t be a surprise to see King Dude on the list at this point if you’ve been following along for a few years... Also, not surprising: our pithy “review” of his new album... which is the broken record quip of his previous few albums, i.e. “A continued expansion of his sound, blah blah blah...” Dark occult rock with dashes of highly niche sub-genres (e.g. garage, gothy confessional, proto-pysch rock, etc.)
Our Place Of Worship Is Silence - With Inexorable Suffering Bestial blackened death metal that sounds feral and unhinged. Cavernous bellows, but tight and crisp guitars that can crunch as much as provide disorienting dissonance. It’s hard to put into words, but these guys are really doing something unique that is nuanced (at least to those who listen to batshit crazy metal regularly), and checks a lot of disparate boxes simultaneously.
Secret Cutter - Quantum Eraser Biggest surprise of the year. No real reviews or fanfare, just a recommendation or two from a reliable source. But wow! What a great sound and style here: blending downtuned simple, noise-rock riffs, think Unsane trying to play sludge, with flashes of adrenaline in monochrome. There’s something about the dry sounding production and drone-influenced riffs, which are oh-my-god heavy while being angular and repetitive, that gives the whole package a concrete tone and feel that’s very unique.
The Soft Moon - Criminal By this point, The Soft Moon should need no introduction, he’s one of the premiere acts of modern darkwave/post-punk. This go ‘round sees his formula augmented with some more industrial and psychedelic flourishes.
Thou - Magus You’ve already heard all about “The Summer Of Thou” in 2018, these NOLA avant-sludge masters released three EPs, a split, and this: their magnum opus all within the span of several months. That’s a lot to take in, hell, this album is a lot - almost impossible to take all in one sitting, but they’re really operating in a league of their own at this point. It’d be one thing if it was the heavy music alone: but knowing the songs grapple with deeper issues of existentialism, individuality, and philosophy make it resonate deeper.
youtube
Tomb Mold - Manor Of Infinite Forms Grimy deathmetal with no novelties or frills outside of nostalgia for the glory days of deathmetal’s arrival in the late 80s/early 90s. This notion is further cemented with an absolutely NAILED production job.
Unravel - Eras Of Forfeit Beefy, thick death metal that sees these Aussies meld the Swedish HM-2 sound with added muscle and heft. Muscular grooves, impressively burly vocals, and tempo changes galore. Plus, with 11 songs in 23 minutes, there’s absolutely no filler to be found. Also that Dan Seagrave cover art is FIRE.
Honorable Mentions:
Dead Can Dance - Dionysus Cold Cave - You & Me & Infinity Daniel Avery - Song For Alpha Mausolei - Horizont and Vorposten
Cryogenic Husk #82 - Best Of 2018
1) Holygram - She’s Like The Sun 2) King Dude - Velvet Rope 3) Jaye Jayle - As Soon As Night 4) The Soft Moon - It Kills 5) Actors - We Don’t Have To Dance 6) Del Judas - Of Love And Death 7) Kælan Mikla - Draumadís 8) The Body - Nothing Stirs 9) Thou - The Changeling Prince 10) Convulsing - Beaten 11) Jesus Piece - Punish 12) Our Place Of Worship Is Silence - Chronicles Of Annihilation 13) Candy - Good To Feel 14) Harm’s Way - Human Carrying Capacity 15) Secret Cutter - Trampled By Light 16) Immortal - Called To ice 17) Unravel - Carcinogenesis 18) Tomb Mold - Final Struggle Of Selves

Yeah—well—here’s to my own AU canon of the Keltiad (the Grysk are the Coroniad Imperium/also know as the Virathi-nos Virathu—to the FireFly ‘verse), Firefly/Serenity, and StarWars The ThrawnTrilogy (overwritten and combined with DarkEmpire1)…
—How has no one not made the connection of BlueSunCorp and BlackSunSyndicate?? And, Saffron as yet one more alias of MaraJade before CelinaMarniss, and Lando going ‘huhuhuh’ over Zoe, the first time they secure the shipment of cocoa/chocolate…organic, not lab grown…
—Reaver/Noghri hybrid clones requiring a biokinetically gifted Keltoi medic (the female protagonist) to stabilize neural imprinting and gene replication errors to which clones are prone given accelerated maturation into higher cerebral executive function; River Tam and the Operative crossing tactics with Thrawn; Aeron Aoibhell and the Keltoi organizing the Independents on the Fringe into the counter force of Thrawn’s Empire of the Hand—whilst Thrawn has a larger ambition of taking down the DarkMatter entity bent on destroying both quadrants bound by a wormhole, the Galaxy, and the basic order material reality—also-something about a proto-genome in here with bio-quantum variance that allows the enhanced recovery and tissue repair of Reaver-Clone hybrids—yeah, I’m a shameless DeathStalker and LukeSkywalker/ Shadows of Mindor—this includes soundtracks of DarkWave-NewWave-PinkFkoyd-LedsZepps-the Pogues-90s Brit pop angst—and a combo of…oh, and an entire Wasteland Motif, where a large dead zone of the Galaxy neutralized by a massive blast of radiation from the Galaxy’s core 1000 years from Earth’s Great Diaspora holds the secrets, and a great lie of the CoreParliament, going back to Earth that Was, and the smashed moon known as the Skelligs…
Help—how do I organize these made notes in my notebooks into a working draft?? Omg…Ah, an the Impossible Love motif of Rhyanon, Thrawn, and Luke (inspiration from Gypsy Scholar’s the Tower of Song…Leonard Cohen’s lyrics might pop up here too…)…
Imagine Thrawn being cast into the Unknown Regions with Ezra
Imagine Thrawn being found and rescued by the Chiss
Imagine Thrawn being taken back to the Acendancy and his home
Don't imagine Thrawn being taken in front of the Syndicure
Don't imagine them debating whether he should be accepted back into their society or returned to exile
Don't imagine Ba'kif and Ar'alani standing to the side knowing there is nothing they can do
Don't imagine the Syndicure nearly ruling against him
Don't imagine Thrawn standing up and speaking for the first time against them
Don't imagine him shouting at them that he has given his life for the Acendancy
Don't imagine him telling them that though he was ruled by the Empire his actions were for the benefit of the Chiss
Don't imagine Mitth'raw'nuruodo losing his composure
Don't imagine him screaming at his Patriarch
Don't imagine him calling himself a servant of the Chiss
Don't imagine him saying "I only want to come home"
Don't imagine the Syndicure stripping him of his titles
Don't imagine them turning him over to the Mitth
Instead imagine him returning home to his family and being granted a place in the Expansionary Defence Force

new release on Cosmic Brood records!!! “Loveless Adventures” with its 9 tracks is a result of one year making and relentless touring and it's a perfect blend of minimalistic lo-fi darkwave sound of Neon Lies’ early stages when Goran was revisiting his teenage crush for early minimal synth punk and proto-industrial, and the second album, when he was more into exploring experimentation with repetition, noise, electro and up to date sounds and ideas from European underground dance floors."
"This album, recorded and mixed, as always, directly on tape by the man himself, finally brings all of this together in one deeply moving and authentic intimate disclosure of personal loss and gain, euphoria, happiness and sadness. But no matter how much this journey was loveless, it was profoundly lovefull. Dedicated to all the loners and their dealers."
