[MIYAVI LESSON] MIYAVI and PS COMPANY
This article is to tell you guys how many resources MIYAVI has got from PS COMPANY and his fans, co-miyavi. In my opinion, it was a breach of trust for him to take on someone else's resources and not help the people who provided them realize their dreams, but instead marry Melody and run away from PS COMPANY. MIYAVI, he's a liar! He never liked music or even his fans!!! They were just tools for MIYAVI to marry an American. His daughter, who can't even speak Japanese, and claimed to be "American" at a jazz class in Tokyo in 2024. You can use translation software to understand the content of the article. Thank you so much. m (_ _)m
之后,the GazettE 决定将由 Sony Music Records 发行,Alice Nine 将由 Tokuma Japan Communications 发行。

*Indie PSC.

===========================
Musicman’s RELAY)
——Miyavi
===========================
S.K.I.N., the last rockstars,可以说成员名单高度重合。
S.K.I.N. GACKT from Malice Mizer YOSHIKI from X JAPAN SUGIZO from LUNA SEA/X JAPAN 雅-miyavi- the last rockstars HYDE from L'Arc~en~Ciel/VAMPS YOSHIKI from X JAPAN SUGIZO from LUNA SEA/X JAPAN MIYAVI
也就是年初他游学回来,2007年5月25日加入由YOSHIKI(X JAPAN)、Gackt、SUGIZO(LUNA SEA)组成的S.K.I.N乐队。

timeline of zhai tianlin drama
—aka, why OS s2 is in peril: the tl;dr is that people are casting suspicion on zhai tianlin’s phd thesis’ validity + it’s blown up. this is taken from this weibo post here that tried to give a summary / timeline of events (note that as far as i can tell, OP is biased against ztl...)
note that a lot of (if not all) of these claims are unsubstantiated / based on questionable “evidence.” my heart goes out to ztl for having to deal with the massive influx of hate — tags abt this have been trending all week, and this drama’s even made the news. (link to english article, south china morning post)
avenuex also made a video about it here (which i haven’t watched yet bc frankly i don’t have the emotional energy, but i’ve heard it’s good)
throughout the post they refer to ztl as “翟博士” which is lit. doctor/phd zhai. whether or not it’s snarky... well... i’ll leave it to you to decide. all my additions in the form of links or supplementary info are in square brackets.
一个翟博士引发的惨案 / lit. a massacre that dr. zhai started
background: dr. zhai shared on weibo his acceptance letter to the brilliant beijing university, encouraging himself with the caption “加油 [jiayou], xiao zhai” (approx. keep up the good work, little zhai) 第一波:翟博士不知知网。 the first wave: dr. zhai didn’t know about 知网 [zhiwang] / China National Knowledge Infrastructure (wiki link provided, but it’s a research database similar to jstor in the west). netizens asked if they would be able to read his phd thesis on CNKI. completely confused, he asked: “what’s CNKI?”
dr zhai [later], trying to save his own dignity: “people would believe me even if i said i didn’t know 1+1=2.”
[ie. he commented this to note that he meant it sarcastically. ppl on the net didn’t believe him, sparking the next events...]
the second wave: dr. zhai doesn’t have a paper in the CSSCI (a rather unhelpful wiki link provided, essentially the largest social science publication citation index in china + a measure by which a publication’s authenticity/accredibility is measured). netizens searched across CNKI and found that dr. zhai didn’t have any papers [cited] in the CSSCI, though according to usual university graduation standards, theses must be published [into the system].
dr. zhai had no time to attend class while filming. netizens analyzed dr. zhai’s workload during his phd program [2014-2018] and found that he was always either filming or doing promotional activities — there was no way he could have had time to attend full-time schooling during the semester.
his studio’s damage control: “[ztl’s] doctoral thesis will be organized and uploaded by his university,” “through correspondence [long-distance teaching], his advisor oversaw his studies”
the third wave: netizens continue to question — without a published thesis, how could he defend his dissertation?
fans tried to defend him with an essay he published in “广电时评” [a film-related magazine], but were mocked because that wasn’t a CSSCI publication. fans also tried to defend him saying that beijing film academy [where ztl got his phd] didn’t necessarily use CSSCI. the fourth wave: mama yu [nickname for director yu zheng, notable for shows like story of yanxi palace + yin zheng’s upcoming winter begonia] appears. yu posts a screenshot of their chat history [with picture of attachments sent], proving that dr. zhai had a thesis w/ over 100,000 words, and a file size of over 645 kilobytes, praising that he wrote it well.
netizens call into question why a 100,000 word thesis is only ~600 kilobytes — was there no bibliography, or even a icon [ie. picture file which would increase file size dramatically] of his school[’s logo]?
[unfortunately... this didn’t really help his case, considering yu zheng has also been involved in controversy regarding plagiarism allegations many times]
the fifth wave: classmates are pulled into the controversy + not spared. the list of the other classmates that graduated w/ dr. zhai was dug up. netizens searched each of them one by one on CNKI: they all had 3-5 papers, some didn’t have CSSCI publications.
beijing film academy’s phd students don’t need to publish CSSCI-level papers — beijing film academy’s academic standards are called into question.
the sixth wave: dr. zhai’s plagiarism. the essay [mentioned earlier], published in 广电时评 was ran through CNKI and [supposedly] had a similarity rating of over 40%, with passages plagiarized from papers over ten years old.
professor huang li hua posted on his wechat: “the one who acted on 春晚 [lunar new year broadcast show] as someone exposing cops as fake has to be exposed by me as a fake.”
[ztl’s] studio officially announced that no academic dishonesty had taken place.
[huang later continued, translation from the south china morning post: “The celebrity’s management company claimed Zhai had no academic misconduct issues, but my essays a decade ago were copied paragraph by paragraph. The truth trumps his argument,” Huang wrote on the Chinese social media app WeChat.]
the seventh wave: removal from “academic dishonesty” list. sichuan university listed dr. zhai’s case as an example of academic dishonesty, but deleted it after a few days. [link to the world’s worst screenshot] 第八波:导师被拖下水扒皮。
the eighth case: [ztl’s] academic advisor is dragged into the controversy. dr. zhai’s advisor was dug up — he was appointed phd advisor, but had only an undergraduate degree! another one of this advisor’s students also didn’t have a CSSCI-level publication.
the ninth wave: official state media starts reporting: people’s daily [newspaper], the communist youth league’s weibo, tower of purple light [magazine], etc. publish articles regarding the suspicion surrounding dr. zhai
beijing film academy’s response: an internal investigation committee has been established.
beijing university’s response: we will wait on beijing film academy’s investigation results, and then follow standard regulations to deal with this matter.
[ according to smcp: around this time, essay is also reported to have been taken down from CKNI the tenth wave: a university dean is pulled into the controversy. [one of the] advisors dr. zhai had to defend his dissertation against to graduate, dean zhang of beijing film academy’s acting school, is revealed to have married a student (surname liu) of his born in the 90′s(?), despite being over fifty himself. she was also a classmate of yang zi [this is very irrelevant but she’s a very famous post-90′s actress who graduated from beijing film academy. you might know her for being in ashes of love.]
a movie production studio under beijing film academy invested in producing a movie where dean zhang + his wife liu were the male/female leads, getting yang zi, zhang yishan, and guan xiaotong [all v v v v famous] to play supporting roles, though it only made 750,000 at the box office.
[so i did some digging and it appears that this is the movie they’re talking about. again it’s mostly irrelevant if you ask me, but maybe you wanted to know. mostly the controversy is for like, taking a really young wife and then making beijing film academy pay for his romantic fantasy movie lol.
what does this have to do with zhai tianlin? pretty much nothing tbh] 第十一波:北电侯亮平、阿廖沙再次被提起……
the eleventh wave: previous allegations of professors’ sexual assault cases / misconduct brought back into question ... how much is beijing film academy hiding?
[ the specific cases they reference are 阿廖沙 and 侯亮平, both web names that anonymous posters used on weibo to report/investigate sexual assault allegations at beijing film academy. (the second name is a reference to a character in a tv show who’s a anti-corruption prosecutor); i can talk about those cases but it’d take a whole separate post — tl;dr anonymous poster shares account of sexual assault and ensuing ostracization from faculty/classmates when they tried to bring it to light and ultimately turned to weibo. it was a rly big trending topic for a while back in 2017. ]
douban confers on dr. zhai a new nickname: 靖北侯
[the meaning, v. approx “peaceful north marquis” is a reference back to “平西王,” “peaceful west king/prince,” the nickname for 薄熙来 (bo xilai), a PRC politician sentenced to life imprisonment for corruption — obviously, the 北/bei also refers to beijing film/uni + 候 is a convenient callback to the previous anon investigator into beijing film sexual assault cases]
that was very very long. i hope this was somewhat helpful ;-; chinese social media has been blowing up about this, this is an attempt to capture some of the context. (this has been stressing me and my friends out as well — fingers crossed for ztl to get out of this unscathed.)

Essayghost。com

黄金法则2、Provide a clear structure
1、Tell what you’re going to tell them(Introduction)
2、Tell them(body)
3、Tell them what you told them(conclusion)
黄金法则3、Build a strong case
黄金法则5、Pay attention to presentation
黄金法则6、Beware the ditto simplicities

Growth of The Ipod | Business Dissertations
The iPod is perhaps the most talked about technological product in recent times. It has set sales records that have lave literally destroyed the predictions of all analysts by superseding everyone’s expectations. The interesting issues concerning this topic is how the iPod impacted not only the digital Music electronics industry, but was also responsible for the turnaround of a company on the brink of bankruptcy.
It is this very fact that makes the growth and life cycle of iPod an experience in itself and one that creates a sense of wonder at its success. But how did all this come about and just why did the iPod do so well? These are questions that we look to find answers towards whilst shedding light on the internal pressures faced by the parent company Apple.
The paper takes the reader through the history of the parent company Apple and its declining fortunes until the introduction of the iPod. This revolutionary innovation then dictated the pace at which the organisation was able to turn itself around to become one of the more successful computer companies in the world today. The report also looks at how Apple as a company defines itself with the onset of the iPod boom – can it still call itself a computer company in the literal sense of the word or does it now see itself entering a diversified phase of business operations and hence, would need to re-think it’s overall businessstrategy and core competencies.
The views of different writers expressed through the paper help in building an understanding of the pressures the company has undergone over the last decade and why it has taken the decisions that it has. The paper revolves around the growth of the iPod as the key driving force for all major business and technical decisions, it understand how it had to be re-modelled and adapted to the market needs and demands. The paper also paints the competitive landscape at different stages of the growth cycle and how this impacted or did not impact the iPod.
Finally, the paper looks at the varying consumer tastes, the positives drawn from the product itself and what lies in store for the future of the product and the company. The methods used to create a deeper understanding of the iPod environment were through a variety of primary and secondary sources. Some of this is discussed in greater detail in different section of the paper. However, for the purpose of this report, the researcher took great care in trying to put together different pieces of work by various writers so as to be able to provide more holistic and all-encompassing view of the real scenario that surrounded the iPod boom. On a more generic note, most writers and experts within the industry agreed that the success of this product was unrivalled by others of its kind in recent times.

Biden’s Chance of Presidency
MSM has been painting a world where Biden presidency is a certainty. So let’s examine this a little.
My personal opinion is that Trump still has a better chance of reelection despite Biden’s apparent support in the media. My guess is 55/45 in Trump’s favor.
Let’s get one thing straight before we begin - Americans are simply humans, with human tenancies and desires. They are not just white left-wing bible bashers who follow a cult leader blindly. The most basic human instinct is to subscribe to benefits and avoid harms. Humans can make incorrect decisions at times due to the lack of or having false information, or due to the lack of physical and mental capabilities; for the vast majority of times, however, we follow our desires and choose accordingly. The decision making process for picking a president, consciously or subconsciously, is no different. Therefore we base our analysis on such premise.
Biden’s biggest problem right now seems to be - what is his political platform? Can anyone provide a concise answer?
Trump often acts silly, abnormal or even rude in front the media, without any presidential class. Recall how he shoves his way through a group of leaders at G20 and pushes Montenegro’s PM to the side? Regardless of all the fluff, Trump’s political stance has been clear:
1. Cut taxes and reduce government spending
2. Promote domestic industries; encourage multi-national corporations to bring back manufacturing jobs
3. Combat illegal immigration to boost employment
4. Reduce international obligations such as NATO and WHO
5. Pull out of the middle east and pivot geopolitical efforts towards China
7. Wage trade war against China to bring back manufacturing jobs.
What’s the thought process behind above points? America has fully reaped the benefits of a post-cold war era. The current structure of international trade does not provide sufficient benefit to large portions of US citizens. America’s annual trade deficit stands tall at $600 billion, and is directly caused by the loss of manufacturing jobs. The mass emigration of its secondary industry has hollowed out the blue-collar middle class, particularly in the rust belt. The socioeconomic impact is significant, with cities such as Detroit, Cleveland and St. Louis losing ten to twenty per cent of their population. Tech is great for investors, but does not provide income for vast majority of middle-class. American needs to transform.
Trump’s approach is protectionism and self-preservation. The only way to protect American workers is to disrupt Chinese manufacturing and logistic industrial chain while mandating corporations to bring back domestic manufacturing.
Trump is bold - not afraid to admit America’s key weakness, to frame the problem and to clearly communicate proposed solutions. Unlike most politicians, he avoided political bickering over incremental differences represented by Democrats and Republicans. As such, Trump was the weakest candidate in 2016 in terms of political capital without the backing of the Republican party. While media painted him as a clown in a circus, he focused on one message - MAGA, by guiding blue collar Americans conceptualize the root cause of their problems and delivered a total of 323 rallies to drive home his message. Despite being the least competitive candidate, he beat Clinton who was the hottest political star at the time.
Looking back at the last four years, Trump delivered his promises regardless of how media focused once again on his eccentricity. Though he did fail to build an actual wall on the Mexican border, Trump was able to paint an unwelcome image to deter illegal immigrants. All in all, America needs to transform in order to maintain its dominance, and Trump jump started that transformation whether or not it was in the right direction.
On the other hand, what is Biden’s political platform and his fundamental focus? What problems does Biden hope to solve? There isn’t a clear message.

Decoration, montage and overlying-- Review on Fu Wenjun’s Digital Pictorial Photography
By Peng Feng
Ever since the emergence of photographic technology, it had been struggling for its position in the art field. Why the photography was not considered as an art consists in the fact that, it was determined by the optical and chemical factors, and the human spirit had no way to penetrate. Although photographers varied on their technical skills, the techniques made a difference in a very limited way. Aesthetic scholars has been taking delight in talking about the ontological differences exist between painting and photography. In a court trial, photography could be the evidence, although a little blurred. Painting could not do the same, even if it makes much clearer deion. We can notice that photography is linked to the object, aimed to record such an object; painting is linked to the subject instead, aimed to express ideas or feelings. The technology aims to record an object, while the art aims to express ideas or feelings. So the differences between photography and painting can be conjured up through seeing a part.
However, the boundary of photography and painting drawn by the aesthetic scholars has encountered the twofold challenge of technology and art. From the prospective of technology, the appearance of the digital imaging technology has destroyed the cause-effect relation between photography and the object. Photographer, like a painter, can collect any kind of visual elements to express ideas or feelings. Observers can appreciate the workpiece as if it was a painting, understanding the morale and implied meaning of the photographic work. In other words, if the photography wants to be shown as evidence in a court trial, it needs evidence to prove itself first. From the perspective of art, after the readymades having become artworks, there is no one insists any more on the spirit penetration and advanced techniques. The pick-up readymades and real-happened events, without any working and transformation by the artists, can also be considered as artworks. Then the boundary between art and non-art is completely blurred. In the context of contemporary art, we can not deny photography is art, just like we can not accept painting is art. Today numerous photographic works are regarded as art masterpieces, at the same time a lot of paintings are left out the door of art. The standard to judge if something is art or not has changed. Painting is inevitable to be an art just for its nature, and photography is inevitable not to be an art just because of its nature.
Since the born of digital composing technology, what has happened to the photography? Firstly and obviously, it is the decoration. The Decoration did exist already in the era of using films to produce photography, but the degree was limited with high requirements of the technique. Not everyone could do the decoration, even the technician with superb skill was not able to do it following his inclination. In the digital age, the decoration techniques has become much easier, thus the degree of decoration is highly increased. Just grasping the simple techniques, one can do the decoration as he pleases. The photography is free from to the limitation of the cause-effect relation of the object. So photography is not independent of man’s will any more. On the contrary, it can be arranged completely on man’s will, and be even softer than the painting, as our spirit can go deep inside in an easier way. Consequently, photography has developed into a major method to beautify the reality, becoming a principal way to aestheticize the daily life.
The decoration can make the photography more beautiful than the reality, but the beauty can not make the photography become an art. In the current time of daily life aestheticization, beauty has become a basic characteristic of the daily life. However, art should be different from the daily life. In an era that daily life was not beautiful, beauty could become a characteristic of the art. But in an era that daily life is already very beautiful, for the art, beauty is not useless, but harmful instead. Aiming to distance with the beautiful daily life, possibly the art will break with the beauty. Therefore, the decoration can only turn the photography into a beautiful merchandise, but is insufficiently turn it into the art. For becoming the art, photography should boycott the decoration.
Beside of the decoration, the digital photography technology has also provided convenience to the montage. In our digital times, the montage technique used for the filmmaking can be done with skill and ease. Taking use of the montage for the purpose of producing meaning, expressing ideas and creating dramatic effect, has become a principal method in the contemporary video art. For example, Eyes of Dragonfly, an undergoing film project of artist Xu Bing, has drawn its material from the collected surveillance videos. From tremendous amount of videos, Xu Bing finds out all the necessary elements composed of a story, including characters, plots, places, and makes the montage of unrelated videos, developing into a story film permeated with suspense. Except of the montage, Eyes of Dragonfly does not use any other elements of film, no photography, no actors.
Different from Xu Bing, who uses the montage to produce video art in dynamic state, Fu Wenjun applies the overlying to create photography art in static state. Xu Bing does not change the videos, and similarly Fu Wenjun also does not change the photos. They are not artists who produce cartoon or manga. Xu Bing, with the method of montage, has transformed the surveillance videos into artwork; while Fu Wenjun, with the method of montage, has transformed the ordinary photos into artwork. In his works, Fu Wenjun does the overlying of photos in multiple levels, and creates the series Digital Pictorial Abstraction series featured with the effect of abstract painting. Normally, the artist can change a realistic work into an abstract one by way of deduction and extraction. However, Fu Wenjun has applied the opposite way, creating abstract works with constant overlying and accumulation. Thanks to the overlying and accumulation, not the deduction and extraction, his digital painting abstract workpieces are characterized by special depth and density, just like the repeatedly painted oil paintings, which provide endless aftertaste to the spectators. Probably with regard to his experience with oil painting creation in his early stage, Fu Wenjun uses the photography to pursue the effect of oil painting. Unlike many artists, he does not use photography to assist oil painting creation, but on the contrary, presents the delight of oil painting through the photography.
In the series A Wind from Yesterday, Fu Wenjun overlays the images of a page made from a woodblock printing in Song Dynasty and a Euphrates poplar, leading nature and civilization to set each other off beautifully. Both of the two objects have gone through the test of a long time, so, as symbols of time they can evoke people’s nostalgia towards ancient times. The works embody a taste that is very close to the “classic elegance” proposed by the modern Chinese scholar Wang Guowei. This scholar regarded the “classic elegance” as a very special interest in the Chinese aesthetics. A Wind from Yesterday represents one of the few photographic works able to give expression to this Chinese aesthetic spirit.
Harmony in Diversity can be seen as a variant of A Wind from Yesterday, in which Fu Wenjun replaced the Euphrates poplar with the overlying of Western classic sculptures and Chinese ancient paintings. Then the dialogue between nature and civilization has evolved into the dialogue between Chinese and Western culture. It is evident that they represent two completely different aesthetic ideals: the Western sculptures pursue a perfect form, while the Chinese paintings adore the light and intangible spirit. Nevertheless, with the overlying performed by Wenjun, they do not appear to be inharmonious. In his own special way, the artist interprets the harmony in diversity, which represents a wisdom contributing to the continuous development of Chinese civilization and which can untie the hard knot of culture diversity and clash of civilizations.
Seeking harmony in diversity does not involve ignoring the clash of civilizations. On the contrary, precisely because we are facing directly the clash of civilizations, we need to advocate the harmony in diversity. In the series Game, Fu Wenjun has brilliantly expressed the current relationship of gambling among countries. The dice is chosen as symbol of the game, and the water splashes created from the throwing of dice outline the map of countries. The asymmetric proportion of dice to maps implies that the game has become an essential content of national politics nowadays.
Different from Game, that pays attention to the gambling among countries, Thought Reading focuses on the game among people, especially between the person and himself. The basic elements in the series are some Buddhist statues and pictures of the human skull under X-ray. Fu Wenjun, with ingenious treatments, reveals the relationship between humanity and divinity in our time. The Buddhist statues are relatively small, which possibly implies the shrinkage of the divinity nowadays. The enlarged skull refers to the expansion of the self. However, the skull is blur and will be rotten, indicating that the self is temporary and the divinity is forever. The meanings conveyed by this series give us much food for our thinking, just like a mirror, which make us to see the game between humanity and divinity.
Post-industrial Era is a large-scale photography installation created by Fu Wenjun, composed of five huge tires and four video projections. Chongqing, a mountainous city, is known for its heavy industry. The high-rises on the mountains and cross-river bridges bring people a sense of sublimity that is hardly to find in information society. Post-industrial Era delivers accurately this sense of sublimity created by modern industries. However, it is not a glorious moment for modern industries, but instead their last days. Even though modern industries will leave, they will leave the stage of history in a grand style.
Fu Wenjun not only has paved the way for the technique or school of digital pictorial photography, his works also represent the manifestation of a wide and profound thinking on the society and life, which is very charming. As for Fu Wenjun, photography is not merely a tool to record reality, but a brush to express his ideas or feelings, a proclamation permeated with philosophy.

Essay
2、Provide a clear structure
1、Tell what you’re going to tell them (Introduction)
2、Tell them (body)
3、Tell them what you told them (conclusion)
3、Build a strong case
4、Use formal language
5、Pay attention to presentation
6、Beware the ditto simplicities

Blue study abroad "The Reviewer" Chapter 6 Blue study abroad Body
Blue is about to board the plane, destination Earth. Blue is a recent high school graduate students, he was admitted to a university on earth with excellent results, Blue's parents are very pleased that the eldest son successfully enrolled, meaning that his two younger brothers will get more preferential treatment. Watching Blue walk into the cabin, the mother said to his father, "Finally raised blue, we have more energy to take care of Blue's two younger brothers, they all raised, we can live in old age." " "Child his mother, you don't think too easy, the earth elite countless, can mix out the personal style is not clear." " "If not, go back to Mars and stay with us, where can't it exist?" " The mother and the child, his father finished, and the two got in the anti-gravity car and returned to the estate. Blue sits near the side of the window, and he leaves Mars for the first time, eight hundred years after humans transformed it. The spacecraft lifted off, the distant ground towering oxygen plant became a dilapidated building, no longer the opportunity for it to operate, Mars has been oxygen oxidation, grass bloom, oxygen factory become the symbol of the transformation of Mars, as a milestone in the human conquest of desolate alienstars, as cultural relics, is protected. Every year the Mars Education Bureau hosts a grand oxygen manufacturing plant tour to tell every citizen living on Mars that their hometown is a nearby planet. You have to remember, this is the first time you have seen the brilliant and exciting scene, this is the first time, you finally move to the future! Although there is no wine and food to celebrate, but there will be a time, you will be very happy life. Blue heart is like thinking. The spacecraft leaves the atmosphere and enters the space transit station, where it quickly enters its intended orbit and lands. Blue walked out of the cabin, looking for the road, looking at the number of signs on his head, and he quickly found his way. The distance to the starship is far away, the ground rolling device makes walking simple and easy, the broadcast constantly broadcasts the ship's landings and landings, and the flight instructs the passengers on board to get ready quickly. The road won't be delayed for long, blue hundred boringly standing on the ground, let the drag device take him to the target flight. Soon he arrived at the corresponding lounge, waiting for a little half an hour, and the boarding broadcast rang out. He was communicating with a friend through social software, and his partner in the video said, "I heard your boarding notice there, and you'll email me when you're free on Earth." " "Time is in a hurry, a little reluctant. Blue said. "Maybe you need a girlfriend, long-distance travel boring, and girlfriend spending time on the phone will certainly meet your communication needs." "The friend hung up after he said it. Maybe in college will meet a favorite girl, Blue thought. Blue found his seat, and he was lucky to still be in the window area, able to see the cosmic view outside through the glass window. The spacecraft slowly started, to the acceleration area, Blue saw around a lot of large starship docked, forward just in the television to see the appearance of the spacecraft, can really feel the power of science and technology up close, should have a feeling of excitement, blue as far as possible to let oneself have an emotional feeling, but he did not. Perhaps ancient people would be excited, and things that would have been used to would not be exciting. Blue's heart explains why he won't be excited. The large starship has reached the accelerated orbit, the spacecraft's speed gradually increased, Blue felt a faint sense of oppression, he breathed a sigh of relief, when the spacecraft's speed stabilized, Blue felt much more comfortable. Blue lookout out of the window of the landscape, is still a dazzling sun, this shining star on earth and Mars has quietly existed for billions of years, every day on time on top of the head, people always easy to ignore his existence, like a hero, to provide the necessity of biology and civilization, but never self-proclaimed. The face of the sun through the atmosphere "screening", like the television "false" look, can be so truly experienced the vastness of the universe, with the sun in the suspended universe, so shocking. The process of the spacecraft gradually turn, the sun's light source gradually "move" to the other side, in the distance, you can see the silk ribbon of the Milky Way, like a floating silk scarf in the water, in the dark universe "screen" inlaid with incomparable bright "pearls", stars dot the distant stars of what kind of life? Can humans leave the solar system to develop desirable cosmic resources for nearby star systems? Blue thinks of it here and feels the importance of my studies: if I've achieved something, I might be able to appreciate more. The journey time is up to 50 standard hours, during which time the ship's seats are equipped with a display, passengers can watch their favorite programs, Blue quickly found their favorite program, is the star variety show, his favorite star is driving the air racing race on the program. The ship has free drinks and things, it's delicious, blue can always barely adapt to the environment in difficult conditions, and the food is not particularly unappealing. Although there are many passengers around him who are like themselves, everyone pretends to be busy living their own ideas out of things, there is not much conversation, and Blue understands this behavior, because he does the same. How to open up to talk with each other, become a human problem, topics and environment is always no social premise, we are more willing to talk with strangers in the quantum network, video, if talk, feel the other side also like, may not be far away to meet to celebrate each other become friends, and then leave, do not know when to see, do not know when to see, Don't know when to walk into each other's lives. Or, do not need to see, had a meeting enough, but such a back-and-forth communication, and eventually become bored, may quietly stay in the room, more meaningful. A journey, and will not take too long, 50 hours hurriedly passed, the rest time, sitting in a chair, sleep, the toilet time, slowly walked through the corridor, to the toilet, to slowly walk back to the chair, should eat to drink water, a little food, sitting quietly, Watching on-screen variety shows, or funny movies, TV shows, time quietly. Coming to Earth, the radio informed the spacecraft passengers, everyone is full of surprises and expectations, and soon they saw the moon, a legendary giant planet, around the earth for countless years, they are like a loyal companion, because of a contract and eternally together. A poet from Mars once described the delicate relationship between the earth and the moon: in lonely space, few people believe in love, the origin of human planet, that blue earth, its side, the moon is forever companion, they are connected by love, never separated. This simple love poem, hot for a century, learning more tourists from Mars, have gone to the moon base to enjoy the beauty of the space curtain hanging, or on the earth, night fall, clear sky, raised his head, a clean moon, is accompanied by the earth civilization for countless years of crystallization. Now the poem is a textbook, and when the inhabitants of Mars hear about the Earth, they always think of the moon's fascination. The sight of the moon is short-lived, the spacecraft's tourists stretched their necks and looked out of the window, just a planet, giving it a certain meaning will show a different expectation. To Earth, the blue planet is beautiful, gradually approaching, the spacecraft into the space station scheduled orbit, the space station and the equator built by the direct elevator, in the distance can be seen a section of the elevator carrying passengers up and down. The blue down-plane followed by the flow of people to the "equator lift", the road many large-scale display ads: robot butlers, food, pets, jewelry, scenic travel, the earth to provide foreign visitors from a few displays revealed, so that everyone who came to the earth to produce a lot of expectations. Blue into the elevator, the lift starts, quickly descends in the direction of the earth, the earth's volume also looks bigger and bigger, the edge of the beautiful arc and the dark background of the universe, the earth appears extremely blue and spectacular. Elevators enter the atmosphere, and a sea of endless clouds gives birth to an exciting tremor. In the elevator rapid descent in a weightless state, coupled with the vision of the view, Blue finally does not need to through the inner hint to prove how meaningful the first time, the external shock completely transmitted to the body of each nerve, the burst of fear of the thrill of constantly like a big wave hit the reef as fast swing. Through the clouds, you can see the full of green, distant ocean blue and azure sky harmonious lying. "Is this the earth?" It's amazing! "Blue can't help but come up with such a sentence. Nearby, the city's two buildings towering into the clouds, the city and nature, not Mars messy urban planning chaos, but a picture full of artistic beauty. The schoolmaster is waiting for a new student, and Blue soon meets the schoolmaster and adds communication with the schoolmaster. "In the evening there is a freshman reception ceremony at the hotel, you follow this address to the hotel. "The head of the school said the address to the blue cell phone. Blue didn't say anything to the schoolmaster, open the map navigation, not far from the destination. Underground transfer belt will be blue quickly brought to the hotel, he quickly check-in procedures, into the room, the room is not small, a dry clean comfortable bed, a red sofa, transparent coffee table placed tea sets, white cup simple and cordial, the bottom of the coffee table with plants, seems to smell a smell of grass and wood fragrance. On the walls hang series of television screens, equipped with stereoscopic game boxes, and on the other wall hangs an art poem, "Tombstone", di Ono's early work: Look through the deep rain alley I'm used to seeing the tide rise Listen to the call of the bell Looking forward to the station in the sunset but the ferry that docked for me. Maybe There's going to be a boat to shore for me. And the gravestone on the shore says Wait...... The poem, read several times by Lanmer, he could feel the emotion in the text. "Is it a love poem?" Blue asked himself. "The title is too sad, but the poem itself is very sad. " A room full of artistic atmosphere, Blue feel symhesia is a good omen, he likes literature, the school major is also the department of literature, he believes that he can shine in the temple of words, came to the earth, the lift saw the beautiful scenery, in the hotel, Di on the poetry, his future must have a close connection with literature, he believes. In the evening, the schoolmaster tiredly brought the last student to the hotel and entertained him with a hearty meal. The school master said: "I introduce myself, let everyone know who I am, my name is Yu Wei, I believe that fellow students know the school by the mountains and the sea of the geographical environment, spring flowers blooming, summer water clear bottom." " Everyone said and laughed back to the room, some students piled up to go to the beach to play. Blue entered the room, and when he was about to pull the curtains, he saw such a view: The red moon rose from the hills, and the clouds around it were hazy, opening windows, and there was no wind. Now the time is nearly 10 o'clock, the normal time to see the moon rising in the book is more than 6 o'clock. There was a sea of light lit by moonlight. The whole sea at the end of the light, like a star, that is the channel light, the end of the sea and the sky intersection, countless lights side by side, lighting the sea, vaguely can see the light of the clouds.

Deciphering Jack Ma

Hangzhou, August 1995. Inside Jack Ma's home, there is a TV camera filming what is going on. Through his i486 computer, Jack dials into Shanghai Telecom. The connection is successful. He opens the Mosaic browser and keys in "https://ift.tt/2uNl4Ac". Three and a half hours later, the web page of Lakeview Hotel Hangzhou is fully downloaded. Pointing at the images and summary received from Seattle, Jack is both proud and excited. He has proven that he was not lying to everyone: the Internet truly exists...
Jack Ma was born in Hangzhou on the 10th of September 1964 to semi-literate parents. He became proficient in English from a young age and began fetching foreigners around Hangzhou on a bicycle when he was 13. However, he was poor at math and once scored a whopping one mark in an exam. He practiced martial arts since his childhood, and enjoyed fighting so much that he once required 13 stitches, while in a separate incident, he was disciplined and forced to transfer to Hangzhou Eighth Middle School.
When he was 18, he had dreams of attending Peking University, but ended up failing the college entrance exams. At 19, he retook the exams but failed them once again. At 20, he retook them a third time and was narrowly accepted into Hangzhou Normal University as a junior college student. However, thanks to vacancies in the intake, he was subsequently allocated to the foreign languages undergraduate major.
And so, Jack finally made it into university in 1984. Because the courses were taught only in English, he took to them like a duck to water, and was soon elected as chairperson of Hangzhou City's students' federation. After graduating in 1988, he was assigned as an English language lecturer to Hangzhou Dianzi University, where he earned a salary of 89 yuan per month. He quickly became an "Outstanding Young Teacher" of Hangzhou, and established the first English Corner by the side of West Lake. He also began to make a name for himself in Hangzhou's translation circle, and would subsequently receive more translation requests than he could handle. In 1992, he founded Hangzhou Hope Translation Agency, through which he invited retired teachers to do translation work. The agency amassed a revenue of 700 yuan in its first month, way lower than the monthly office rent of 2,400 yuan. In order to keep the business going, the agency began selling fresh flowers and gifts, and thus Jack had to carry large sacks to purchase stock from cities such as Yiwu and Guangzhou. For a year, he even sold medicine to clients ranging from big hospitals to barefoot doctors. The agency broke even in 1994 and became profitable from 1995. Jack no longer managed it after it turned profitable.
Hangzhou Dianzi University, a week after Christmas 1994. Bill, a foreign lecturer from Seattle, was talking about the Internet with Jack. Though neither man understood the Internet, this was no hindrance. Bill spoke very excitedly about the topic, while Jack listened equally excitedly. By this time, the latter had already made up his mind to become an entrepreneur. "Everything which I've taught my students was copied from books. There's no meaning and fun in misguiding the young." He was on the lookout for an opportunity.
Jack arrived in Los Angeles in early 1995 as a translator for a highway investment project which was ultimately unsuccessful. He took a flight to Seattle to find Bill, who as a believer in the Internet, brought Jack to visit Seattle's first ISP company, VBN.
Cramped within two very small offices were five young men who perpetually faced monitor screens while tapping away on their keyboards. Jack did not dare to touch the computers until an employee told him not to worry and to try using one. The employee opened the Mosaic browser and keyed in "Lycos.com" before telling Jack, "Type in whatever you want to search for." Jack entered the term "beer", which returned results of German beer, American beer, and Japanese beer, but none of Chinese beer. He then entered the term "Chinese", which returned the message "no data". He subsequently tried the term "china history", and found nothing but a 50-word introduction.
He asked the employee, "Why are some things searchable while other things aren't?" To which the employee replied, "You have to create a homepage and put it on the web first. After that, anyone around the world will be able to find it."
Jack immediately thought of setting up a homepage for his translation agency. At 9:30 a.m., he waited beside the machine for the web page to be completed. According to Jack himself, the programmer provided the agency's translation rates, as well as a telephone number and an email address, on the web page. Jack left the company at 12:30 p.m., and when he returned at night, he noticed five messages in the inbox. Four of them were written by clients from Japan, the United States, and Germany, asking about the agency's translation rates. The last message was from an Overseas Chinese student who told Jack that "Hangzhou Hope Translation Agency is the first Chinese company on the Internet." Beginning to feel the magic of the Internet, Jack excitedly told VBN, "You shall be responsible for the technical aspect here in the US while I head back to China to find clients. Let's work together on China's Internet enterprise."
24 friends were gathered in Jack Ma's home on one fine night in March 1995. These people were all foreign trade professionals who Jack had got to know over 4 years of teaching evening classes. He wanted to find out what business needs these professionals would have for the Internet.
He told them, "I want to quit my job and work on the Internet," following which he began to explain and extol the virtues of the Internet. After speaking for a good two hours, Jack became just as confused as his listeners.
After he had spoken enough, his friends asked him five questions, none of which he was able to answer. At the end of the gathering, 23 of his friends opposed his plan. "You may open a bar, run a restaurant, or found your own night school. Anything but this." Only one person said, "You can give it a shot if you really want to."
Internet……”
Jack did not heed their advice. The next day morning, he immediately resigned from his job at the school. He then pooled together a sum of 20,000 yuan, of which 7,000 was his own money while the rest was borrowed from his sister and brother-in-law. Subsequently, he rang up He Yibing, who was a computing teacher at Hangzhou Dianzi University. "Have you heard of the Internet? Let's work on the Internet together..."
In April 1995, China's first Internet business company, Hangzhou Haibo Computer Services Limited, was established. Its three staff were Jack, his wife Zhang Ying, and He Yibing. At this time, China Telecom was still four months away from providing Internet services.
China Pages (https://ift.tt/2uNl4Ac) was launched online on the 9th of May 1995. Jack started to do business with his friends. His method was like this: he would first describe the pros and benefits of the Internet to his friends, and then request information regarding their companies from them. He would next send the information via EMS to the United States. VBN would do up a homepage, print it out, and send it back to Hangzhou via EMS. Jack would show the print-out of the web page to his friends and tell them that it was visible on the Internet. At this time, China was still three months away from being able to access the Internet.
His friends suspected that he was running a scam because they were yet unable to see the web page for themselves. His reply to them was, "You can call your friends in France, Germany, or the US to take a look. I'll pay the call charges. If they say there's nothing, then forget it. But if they can see it, then that proves that it's real, and you'll have to pay us some money." The standard fee charged by China Pages at that time was 20,000 yuan for a homepage with 3,000 words and a photograph. Of this amount, 12,000 went to VBN.
In 1995, China Pages achieved strong results, in large part because there were few Chinese websites on the Internet. The only Chinese hotel which could be found on the web was Lakeview Hotel. Appropriately, during the World Conference on Women that year, many delegates paid a special visit to the hotel while touring Hangzhou. When Qianjiang Law Firm launched its own web page and placed a home number on it, the owner of this number began to be inundated with phone calls even in the middle of the night.
Abandoning Beijing in Quick Succession
In a small Beijing pub on a night of heavy snow in early 1999. Jack and his 18 staff were eating and drinking non-stop to the point of inebriation. They began singing "True Hero" and expressing their wish for more such fun gatherings. When day broke, Jack suggested climbing the Great Wall, and so they did. On the Wall, one of them finally burst into tears. "Why do we have nothing to show for all our efforts?" Jack had no answer, but he checked his emotions and vowed to build a website which every Chinese citizen would be proud of. He pointed at the words "Zhang San was here" which were scribbled on the Wall and quipped, "This is China's first ever BBS." At 8 p.m. that night, Jack and his staff hopped on a train from Beijing to Hangzhou, and never looked back...
After the online launch of China Pages, Jack brought He Yibing to visit his Internet idol Zhang Shuxin, who could afford only half an hour to meet Jack as she was busy.
Stepping out from Inforhighway's office, and after taking another glance at the famous sign which read "How much further is China from the information superhighway?", Jack said to He Yibing, "If anyone dies because of the Internet, then Zhang Shuxin will surely die before me. Firstly, I can't understand her concept, and secondly, her business is about getting people to get online, whereas mine's about getting enterprises to do so."
In July 1995, China Pages created a website for Zhejiang Province's international communication office. The website, which publicized Zhejiang's economy and culture, was dubbed as the "Golden Pigeon Project". As it was China's earliest governmental online project, two journalists of Qianjiang Evening News, Wen Min and Zhou Dan, wrote a lengthy feature on it. One line read, "General Manager Jack Ma has flown to the United States to address the technical issues of Golden Pigeon Project's next step..."
Having made a name in Hangzhou, Jack wanted to become famous throughout China. He once again visited Beijing in December 1995. Through a friend's introduction, he became acquainted with a driver working for Beijing Youth Daily. Jack passed a manuscript together with 500 yuan to the driver. "The money is yours as long as any media outlet publishes the manuscript." The savvy driver sent the document to five media outlets, and it even made the front page of China Trade News, which Jack thereupon recognized to have good foresight. He immediately sought out the deputy editor-in-chief Sun Yanjun, with whom he spoke for two days and nights. China Trade News had already become China's first web-based media on the 20th of October 1995. "Like myself, he didn't understand the Internet at that time, but he could feel its potential. He told me he supported me."
A month later, Jack forked out 30,000 yuan for the opportunity to give a talk about the Internet at Beijing Chang'an Club to an assembly of more than 30 editors and journalists invited by Sun Yanjun from Beijing's various major media outlets. He had to store all of his content on a hard disk because Beijing's network speeds were too slow to connect to the web.
Early that morning, he readied the two i486 computers he had brought over from Hangzhou and waited at the club for the arrival of the editors and journalists. Subsequently that day, he spoke for two hours explaining what the Internet was and what benefits it had.
But no articles regarding his talk were published in the newspapers. This was because the day after his talk, the media outlets received a notice from on high with instructions not to publicize the Internet for the time being. "They told me that they would be able to report on it if I could persuade People's Daily to go online." Jack soon got to know an executive from the People's Daily's office through a friend. One night, Jack was chatting with this acquaintance until it was very late when someone walked over and asked, "What are you two chatting about?" After Jack told him they were discussing the Internet, this person joined in the conversation. He was the director of the development bureau of People's Daily, Gu Jiawang. In the end, he said, "You should give a talk about the Internet to the upper management of People's Daily." Thereafter, Jack gave not one but two talks to the People's Daily and participated in the newspaper's framework and planning processes for its online venture. "The People's Daily treated me well. I managed to make back not only my travel fare between Beijing and Hangzhou, but also my daily expenses." While in Beijing, Jack stayed in his friend's office, and ate McDonald's every day until he will vomit if he sees the golden curvy M today.
Jack's fame grew as China Pages became ever bigger. This caught the attention of Hangzhou Telecom, which began to set up its own version of China Pages, at the domain chinesepage.com, to compete in Jack's market. "Hangzhou Telecom had a registered capital of 300 million yuan, whereas we had only 20,000 yuan. Moreover, Tian Suning's AsiaInfo was also lurking." Jack decided to merge his company with Hangzhou Telecom in March 1996. China Pages was valued at 600,000 yuan and took a 30% stake, while Hangzhou Telecom pumped in 1.4 million yuan and took a 70% stake. Although China's Yellow Pages business made a turnover of 7 million yuan in 1996, Jack was not happy about the partnership with Hangzhou Telecom. "Running a dot-com is like raising a child. Instead, Hangzhou Telecom only thinks about making fast money. You can't ask a three-year-old child to earn money, right?"
Jack decided to give up on China Pages after receiving an invitation from MOFTEC to establish China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC) in Beijing in early 1997. He sold his 21% stake in China Pages back to the company at a price of 20 to 30 cents per share, and received more than 100,000 yuan. At that time, China Pages had 1.07 million yuan of cash and more than 400,000 yuan of receivables in its accounts. "It was all but in smooth operation already. China Pages never made a profit after I left. Individualistic heroism must be gotten rid off in order to do business, for it'll ultimately harm the business instead." MOFTEC provided a start-up capital of 2 million yuan to CIECC and offered Jack a 30% stake in the company. He excitedly brought over five brothers from Hangzhou, and together the six of them rented an apartment of 20 square meters and toiled for 15 straight months. They created a series of websites for entities including MOFTEC, China's Commodity Trading Market Online, China's Technology Export Fair Online, China Merchants Bank, and Canton Fair Online. In particular, China's Commodity Trading Market Online was the Chinese government's first attempt at organizing a large-scale e-commerce business, and it made a net profit of 2.87 million yuan. After they finished their work, however, Jack and his brothers found it difficult to liquidate their shares within the system. "At that time, we received a monthly pay of a few thousand yuan, and nothing else."
The Internet began to boom in late 1998. Over MOFTEC's platform, Jack became acquainted with Jerry Yang and established relations with a wide range of foreign trading partners.
The Alpha of Alibaba
Hupan Garden, Hangzhou, 21 February 1999. Inside Jack Ma's home, a camera is recording the entire scene. Standing or sitting around Jack are 18 people, comprising of his wife, colleagues, students, and friends.
Jack waved his hand and said, "We shall do something noble from now onwards. Our B2B shall revolutionize the service model of the Internet!" He fished out a few coins from his pocket and placed them on the table. "Because the likelihood of failure is extremely high, our start-up capital has to be our own pocket money. There shall be no borrowing of money from family members or friends. We must be prepared for the worst case scenario. But, even if I'm knocked down by Mike Tyson, I'll get on my feet and continue fighting as long as I'm not dead!"
Jack was talking crazy. He poured his heart out fully and impassionedly. He was finally able to explain what the Internet, which he had spoken non-stop about for four years, was. He started by talking about new trends before moving on to his own future. "Now, I want all of you to take out your money and keep only a little for food. All of you can only be 'captains' and 'sergeants' within the company. I'll hire better-qualified people for the upper management."
According to Jack's instructions not to borrow money from family members or friends, the co-founders, who later became known as the "18 arhats", pooled together 500,000 yuan in capital. Their office was set up in Jack's home, which was only big enough for 35 people to squeeze into. He stipulated that every staff must rent an apartment within five minutes of the office. Everyone's pay was fixed at 500 yuan per month, and they would have no holidays for the first ten months. "After the starting pistol is fired, you won't have time to look at how your opponents are running. Your only option is to run as fast and wild as you can." Jack demanded that every staff work for 16 to 18 hours a day. They could sleep on the floor when they were exhausted. He would cook up a few dishes for everyone when work became too tough.
Jack had conceived the domain name "alibaba.com" while eating in a restaurant in the United States in late 1998. He had casually asked a waiter whether he knew who Ali Baba was, to which the waiter laughed and replied, "Open sesame!" Jack went to the streets and asked several people the same question, only to get identical responses. "Everyone, from my maternal grandmother to my son, has read the story of Ali Baba. Practically every language on Earth pronounces the name as 'a-li-ba-ba', and that means merchants all over the world will be able to accept our website name without difficulty." Jack eventually chose the name Alibaba out of more than a hundred ideas.
He had already finalized the business model while working for MOFTEC. The net profit of 2.87 million yuan generated by China's Commodity Trading Market Online was practical proof of the existence of this market and the robust health of this business model.
At that time, China's foreign trade depended heavily on the Canton Fair, overseas exhibitions, and existing foreign trade relations. It was also controlled to a large extent by Hong Kong, which served as a commercial transit point. China's imminent entry into the WTO meant that an autonomously-controlled foreign trade channel became a pressing need for China's SMEs. Jack believed that, with the aid of the Internet, Alibaba could and should undertake this mission.
Jack was adamant about using BBS as the implementation method. "It can publish supply and demand information and classify by industry. That's enough." Some of his staff disagreed, and would bang on the tables as they argued with him. After beating his head, Jack remained convinced that he was right. "Alibaba's users are merchants who aren't savvy with the Internet. We have to keep the interface simple."
In March 1999, Jack sent an email from out of town to his staff, demanding that they complete the design of the BBS immediately. The staff revealed that they remained opposed to Jack's idea. Enraged, Jack made a long-distance call and screamed over the phone, "GO AND DO IT RIGHT NOW, ALL OF YOU! RIGHT NOW! RIGHT! NOW!" He wished he could fly back immediately and smack every one of them on their heads.
This was his fourth business venture already. What Jack needed was not partners, but followers and executors. He Yibing, who had collaborated with Jack all along, became unable to conceal his differences with Jack while working on Alibaba, and eventually went his separate way. Since then, neither man would talk about work whenever they met again.
1999年4月15日,alibaba.com上线。
Alibaba.com was launched online on the 15th of April 1999. After hearing about Alibaba, Joseph Tsai, a vice-president at Invest AB who had spent many years studying at Yale University and working on Wall Street, immediately got on a plane to Hangzhou to negotiate an investment with Jack. After four days of discussion, he said, "Jack, I'll give up my job to join Alibaba!" Jack was most welcoming. "Alright! You shall help me to manage money. I don't know how to manage money. The most I've ever managed is 2 million yuan."
Transpac Capital、Investor AB of Sweden、Technology Development Fund of Singapore
Joseph's addition to the team increased Alibaba's persuasiveness. On the 29th of October 1999, a joint investment led by Goldman Sachs and comprising of Transpac Capital, Investor AB of Sweden, and the Technology Development Fund of Singapore invested US$5 million in Alibaba.
On the 30th of October 1999, the day after Alibaba's first round of financing, Jack jubilantly flew to Beijing to meet Masayoshi Son. That day, Jack neither wore a suit nor thought about seeking investment from Son, for he had raised money just the previous day. Jack simply wanted to talk about Alibaba and the Internet to Son and hear the latter's opinions on them.

Fragments of History Fall Through the Air Page After Page
Everyone lives in a world of their own experiences, and a journalist is no different. China Computerworld ran an exhibition in the year 2000. As this coincided with the publication of my new book, "China Dotcom", I was sent by my newspaper to our exhibition booth to sign autographs and promote my book. While I was happily chatting away, a reader tugged on me and said, "You should pay attention to Jack Ma. A new foreign trade channel for SMEs has been opened by his Alibaba. His experiments at MOFTEC were also groundbreaking and inspiring." I laughed and did not take this reader's words to heart. At that time, I was preoccupied with the Three Gateways, Wang Zhidong, and Ding Lei.
I did no foreign trade and never went on alibaba.com before. Thus, when Jack Ma appeared on the cover of Forbes on the 10th of July 2000, and the media reported that he was the first Chinese entrepreneur in 50 years to receive this honor, I smiled indifferently and continued to not take him seriously.
On New Year's Day 2002, I went to Hangzhou to interview the president of Insigma Group, Chen Chun. I suddenly thought of the interesting West Lake Discussions, and of Jack Ma. I knew that Wang Juntao had a very good relationship with Jack Ma. Wang Juntao had been a distinguished guest at the first and second West Lake Discussions. My relationship with Wang Juntao was also very good, and so I called him up and told him I was in Hangzhou and wanted to meet Jack Ma. He told me that he would get Jack Ma to call me right away. Jack Ma called as soon as I put down my phone. When my interview with him was ending, he told me that his maternal grandmother had just passed away and he needed to rush over, and so he would not be able to treat me to dinner, but that if I had no other plans at night, he could treat me to tea.
In the West Lakeside teahouse, after the interview was finally completed, Jack began to chat about DoNews with me. He suggested for DoNews to market enterprise IDs. "There are a lot of critical comments on DoNews. Enterprises should also have a space and way to speak." Subsequently, this idea was realized as what is Xinwentong today.
Although Jack Ma left a favorable impression on me, I never dared to write about him after returning to Beijing. I was afraid that I would be writing a non-existent magical story. At that time, Alibaba's website remained as distant as the fairy tale's "open sesame" to me. I could not feel it personally, just like I could not find circumstantial evidence that Jack Ma was once kidnapped by an American syndicate.
Taobao was established on the 10th of May 2003. It began to snatch away eBay's C2C market, and after not long, Jack Ma declared that Taobao had already surpassed eBay. I laughed and told myself, "How's that possible? eBay's original market share was 90%."
On the 17th of August 2005, Yahoo announced that it would pay US$1 billion and all of Yahoo China's assets in exchange for 40% of Alibaba's shares and 35% of its voting rights. Yahoo China's assets were privately discounted by US$600 million.
This news made me begin to reexamine the interview I had conducted three years ago. I wrote in my personal blog, "Fragments of history fall through the air page after page. Busybodies pick up whichever page catches their fancy."
Jack Ma has succeeded. Now that he has, does that really prove that all of the stories he told were true? But I, like everyone else, love listening to successful people's stories and summaries of their experiences. This helps me to motivate and inspire myself to achieve my goals. After all, false stories can inspire real ones. Perhaps a journalist may never be able to feel truth, but he can at least feel himself. That's why I omitted from my story "Jack Ma's kidnapping by an American syndicate", "Jack Ma's and Masayoshi Son's financing talks in a restroom", and other stories which I felt were dubious.
On the 9th of October 2005, I treated Jack Ma to tea in the lobby of Grand Hyatt Beijing. He told me, "Only two types of media outlets or websites can survive: one is those which have special characteristics, and the other is those which are large-scale." "DoNews used to be left-of-center, now it's right-of-center." "Stop being so regular. It'll be boring if it becomes like Sina Tech."
That day, Jack Ma, who was reveling in the joy of success, spoke about his views on journalism. "When something has been done, it must be recorded, or else it's as good as not having been done before, and future generations will repeat similar mistakes." "Wang Juntao can write while I can speak." He was very critical of writers who mixed opinion and fact in their articles. "If you're making a wild guess, you have to declare that it's your personal opinion."
That day, I asked Jack Ma a question which seemed like flattery. "Why is it that you can be where you are today, while the equally-clever Wang Juntao, who is the pioneer of China's e-commerce, is still toiling away?" He replied, "While I was talking, giving speeches, doing promotions, and attitudinizing, there was a group of people behind me doing the nitty-gritty and working themselves into the ground. Conversely, Wang Juntao doesn't have '18 arhats' behind him. When I say something, there are people working on it. When he says something, it's just empty talk."
On the 3rd of November 2006, DoNews 5G held a discussion on the topic "Jack Ma paid Huayi Brothers 30 million yuan in advertising fees when he is a shareholder of Huayi Brothers himself. Is this a related party transaction?" When Jack Ma learned about it, he sent a message to Mu Zhengpeng, who was taking part in the discussion, saying, "Haha, I'm not a cheapskate. How could I be successful if I was that kind of person?" This response made me think of his distribution of shares to the 18 arhats, as well as his forsaking of holding and using venture capital to grow Alibaba. These facts show that Jack Ma is someone who only cares about the success of his business and does not bother about cheap gains. But he is undeniably a shareholder of Huayi Brothers, and certainly paid Huayi Brothers 30 million in advertisement production fees... news has also pointed out that Jack Ma's wife, Zhang Ying, is a shareholder of the word-of-mouth network which Alibaba purchased a few days ago...
Fragments of history fall through the air page after page. Busybodies pick up whichever page catches their fancy." Even if they pick up the same fallen page, the 18 arhats and Zhou Hongyi would certainly interpret the writing differently. But the advice to pay attention to Jack Ma which I received 6 years ago was right. Jack Ma is indeed somebody. (Liu Ren)

2.
Dear Mom,
When I was six, you started me out in piano. You took me to weekly lessons with a nice elderly Chinese man who gave me candy and trinkets. At the lessons, you sat by me, learning to read notes and play scales so that you could help me practice at home. You sold your wedding ring to buy me a piano.
When I was seven, you signed me up for classes at the local ice rink. You stood by the edge of the rink, encouraging me as I flopped, floundered, and cried my eyes out on the ice. At home, you showed me videos of Michelle Kwan and Chen Lu. “You could be like this one day!”
When I was eight, you took me to a Chinese dance academy. You wanted me to be more connected to Chinese culture, after I asked you to get me McDonalds for lunch at school. You mentioned that had your parents had the money when you were young, you would’ve become a dancer.
When I was ten, I completed the final level of the state piano tests. The nice elderly Chinese man gave me a graduation certificate, and told you that he was no longer a suitable teacher for me. You sought out other teachers in the area, finally settling with a Polish lady who taught at the local community college. She charged $100 per lesson.
Soon, you were driving up to 200 miles per week, shuttling me from piano to skating to dance classes. I attended some sort of lesson almost every day after school; piano and skating on Mondays, violin on Tuesdays, zither on Friday, dance on Saturday, and Chinese school on Sunday.
When I started middle school, you lost your job. You never mentioned it explicitly, but I could tell that we had less money to spend. Occasionally, when I would slack off at a lesson, you’d remind me of how much the lesson cost. I remember thinking, “well I never asked you to spend that much money on me,” but said nothing.
In seventh grade, school started to get tough, and waking up at 4am for skating classes were starting to take a toll on me. I mentioned quitting skating and violin, but you insisted that I should continue. You reminded me of the time and money that had been invested to bring me this far, and told me that I just needed to grit my teeth to make it through. You couldn’t comprehend why I would voluntarily throw away opportunities that you’d worked so hard to provide for me. You mentioned the word sacrifice—the word made me cringe.
In eighth grade, I started to resent you. My friends at school would talk about how Asian parents were too pushy and demanding, and I started to wonder why you couldn’t be more like the relaxed American parents that let their kids roam free. For some reason, I internalized American parenting as ideal, and anger built inside of me as I thought of how “pushy” you were. I decided that I would need to assert my rights as an “American” child—the right to be independent and make my own decisions. I insisted that you stop sitting in on my piano lessons. I demanded that you wait in the car while I completed my skating sessions. I told you that I would quit skating, no matter what you said.
You were obviously hurt by my actions, and often wondered aloud what you had done to deserve such backlash. You couldn’t understand why I was suddenly pushing you away. You would repeat: “all I ever did was give, give, give, and now this is what I get?” Hearing these words though, only made me angrier. I didn’t understand why I “owed” you something, when I had never asked you to give me anything. Sending me to piano lessons, skating and dance classes, were all things you had volunteered for, I thought. If anything, it seemed like I was the one suffering, being forced to continue with skating when I didn’t care for it anymore.
Even though I’d requested that you sit outside during my piano lessons, you didn’t back down that easily. You insisted that you had the right to listen in on my lessons, because you paid and drove me to them. I tried to counter you with all sorts of arguments and threats—that it was Dad who paid for lessons because he was the one with the job, that I would get my license as soon as I turned 16 and drive myself to lessons, etc. Our relationship devolved to the point where we constantly fought over who had more authority. Looking back, I don’t know why winning that fight was so important to me. Perhaps it was intrinsic pride, or the inclination to model my life after an American ideal, to be independent and have the freedom to do whatever I wanted to.
Eventually, you did let me quit skating. By that time though, we no longer had a working relationship. I still resented the fact that I had been seemingly forced to continue skating. You continued to mention how you’d sacrificed so much but never got anything in return. It made me angry, but more than anything, stemmed an underlying feeling of guilt that still stands as a barrier in our relationship today.
Mom, recently you called me and told me about a concert you’d be singing in with your choir. Our conversation made me think back to how you told me you wanted to be a singer or a dancer when you were young. At the time, your parents didn’t have the money to support you, and you had to spend your time caring for your grandma and younger brother. Later, you went to college and met Dad. He eventually got a job in America, an unpassable opportunity at the time, and you decided to make the move with him. Soon after, you became pregnant, and I was born. It was only after I left for college that you were able to finally do what you wanted—to sing and dance.
You often mentioned giving me opportunities that you never had. I can’t help but think that that was the reason why you wanted to give me the chance to try all sorts of different activities, even if we didn’t always have the money for it. Perhaps you wanted to see me succeed, in a way that you didn’t have the chance to. Perhaps it was to help me achieve the American dream, doing everything you could to make sure I’d live a better life in America.
Regardless of your reasoning, I’d just like to say that I’ve come to appreciate all the opportunities you’ve given me. I realize now that some of my resentment toward you, especially in my high school years, may have been misguided. I now feel lucky to have started out in so many different activities that have given me a good foundation in many areas—music, dance, athletics, Chinese language, etc. So thank you, Mom, for being the driving force behind who I am today. I love you, even though I may never be able to tell you that to your face.

ABOUT CAO YONG
One of the most celebrated living artists in the world, Cao Yong was born in China in 1962 and is now a US citizen, found peace and consolation in drawing at age five, and often skipped meals and pawned his clothes to buy art supplies. At eleven he began studying with a noted artist in Beijing and received his BFA in 1983. He lived for seven years in Tibet, including a now-legendary year studying prehistoric cave paintings and creating artwork while living alone in a deserted mountain cave, which resulted in his first one-man art show in Beijing in 1989. Yong wasrecognized as Japan’s most honored muralist and was extolled as “an artistic genius of our time.” The artist’s most prolific out pouring of work began when he arrived to the USA in 1994, first in New York, and then California. Pouring his talent into oil and canvas to depict scenes he has experienced around the world, Yong has become one of the most collected living artists in America and his paintings have been exhibited in prominent museums and art galleries worldwide, and even in New York’s Times Square on NASDAQ billboards. Some of his most famous paintings include“Freedom,” a tribute to 9/11, “We the People” and works of art featuring European, Eastern, American, Mediterranean, Tibetan and other exciting locales.Yong is celebrated daily within his own art gallery built in his honor in Beijing. Each of his detailed works of art are zealously welcomed worldwide andsold and distributed in over 200 galleries globally. Yong now aims to bridge East andWest in his paintings and to create harmony throughout the world, making it abetter place for all to enjoy. “Cao isnow a wealthy painter of romantic visions of California, Hawaii and the Italian coast, having remade himself in three countries by mustering physical endurance, resourcefulness and a classic immigrant's willingness to adapt.” ~The Los Angeles Times
