The more you know:
[FR] J'ai découvert (thanks tiktok) ce petit site bien pratique qui référence des images qui sont libres de droits et/ou maintenant dans le domaine publique!
Je ne crois pas avoir vu beaucoup de gens en parler par ici, mais sharing is caring donc voilà! Si vous chercher des textures/images pour vos créations, je crois que vous allez en avoir pour un bon moment à hoarder le tout et explorer la plateforme!

These sites can only exist because of the work put in by librarians and archivists to collect, curate, and share these images to begin with. It is a shame that so much of their work was erased so that this site can claim to show you an internet of the future, “rich, organized libraries that expand our consciousness.” (the L word is right there!) I wish, sometimes, that library and archive websites were better looking, more showy and appealing. But more than that, I wish that sites like these honored the work that goes into sharing these images, because the internet is richer highlighting the work of all of us.

hi! sorry if this isnt what you do, but do you know of any blog themes that work / look similar to public.work ? i love the way it moves but have no idea how to make or find something similar
Hi there Anon!
After some digging, I unfortunately cannot find an exact recreation of the website (I agree with you, I love the way it flows whilst we navigate the site) but do consider looking at these themes:
Terra by @kosmique
Lavender by @seyche
Theme 34 and Theme 35 by @yeoli-thm
Unparalleled by @magnusthemes
Fluorine by @xuethms
I think the particular defining aesthetic points of the website were commonly replicated before 2020-ish, something like this, or this.
Hope this helps! :)

Art help/reference web/public domain art
Ok guys! So I found a website with free artwork (is public domain) and since it's from old books and such, it can be both cool décor and interesting references!
The website is called public.work and works as an interactive map where you search for something, click on an image, an related ones appear around it.

#sharing is caring#artists on tumblr#art#website#no gatekeeping#i mean#i would have liked to know about it if i didn't#im going to print s lot of them#i just really like it

Pop Loser Vol. 3, No. 1: You and me and the urinal make three.
VOL 3, NO 1
★

I used to know how computers work. If something broke, either inside my laptop or on my website, I could usually figure it out and fix it. It was a thing I enjoyed doing. Somewhere along the way, I stopped knowing how things work and stopped wanting to figure it out. Part of that is that I bought a bunch of products and started using websites that "just work." Part of it was just me getting older and devoting more of that time to things like learning to make bread, reading books and having a few time-sucking kids. It happens.
Last winter, the arcade cabinet I built a couple years ago crapped out. Screen went black and it wouldn't turn on. I poked at it for about 10 minutes and then walked away, because trying to relearn how I made it work in the first place was too daunting, never mind troubleshooting software and hardware in a rigorous way. Too hard! Too much!
One of the time-sucking children finally complained — he had been waiting months to work on his Pac-Man score. Fair enough. The easiest solution, I figured, would be to buy the same model Raspberry Pi and just swap in the SD card and plug it in, but I didn't know if that was possible. I found a forum, signed up and asked, getting a few pretty quick answers that amounted more or less to "Maybe... but it's probably not that simple." Then one guy suggested I replace the power supply — an $8 plug — because reasons (the specifics don't matter here, but I assure you every response I got was fucking _thorough_. Sure enough, that's all it was and boy did I feel stupid and lazy. Don't tell my kids.
I hope you enjoyed your summer. Welcome to Pop Loser Vol. 3.
