Going to talk about the state of Dutch politics again. If you ever pay attention to them, please let it be now.

So like. We're now about 18 hours after the polls closed. The PVV has gained 2 more seats than even the exit polls estimated. The major left-wing parties have both immediately positioned themselves as opposition parties, so unless a big shift happens, the slight hope for a center government is pretty much shot through. We are looking at a (far) right cabinet that is going to do their best to fuck everything up and reverse even the little bits of progress that the past half a dozen or so center-right cabinets still managed to pull off.

And yeah I know that Wilders has been acting like he's going to be "milder" than he's been in the past. And I know that half of what the PVV wants they can't do from a simple constitutional and legal standpoint. But the fact is that they got 37 out of 150 seats. Almost a quarter of our electorate. OVER 2.4 MILLION PEOPLE, are apparently willing to agree with the hateful, islamophobic, racist, queerphobic, climate-denying, insane fucking ideas of Geert Wilders and his PVV. Or at the very least, they're willing to be okay with it. Sure not all of them will agree, but a FUCKING QUARTER OF OUR POPULATION is willing to say "okay yeah I'm fine with you saying those things. I'm fine with you implementing these ideas." And that's not even considering those who voted for other parties that hold similar ideals.

That's the worst part of all this to me. I am dreading a far right government. I am dreading which changes they WILL be able to implement. But above all I'm terrified of knowing that over a quarter of our fucking country is just, okay with it. A quarter of the country is willing to vote for the "less morrocans" guy. A quarter of the country is willing to vote for the guy wanting to ban islam. Wanting to pretty much stop taking in any refugees and sending them all back. Wanting to ban fucking LGBT education and what not. I am not even close to being their primary target. Sure I'm trans and queer and what not. But I'm still white and Dutch. I fear not just for myself. I fear way more for those in this country who look at this election, and see a party who downright says they don't belong here. They will face more hate. And I can't do much about that. But the least I can do is not shut up. I can try and show them that there are still plenty people here who do stand with them. And while I don't agree with him on some things, I do agree with Frans Timmermans in saying that at this point, we need to stand up straight, we need to look at the people who feel they might not belong in this country, and tell them we Have. Their. Backs.

And I know there's more shit going on in the world. I know most people on this site don't care much for Dutch politics. But I need to talk about it for once because honestly it's fucking terrifying. We looked on when Trump got elected. We spread your news on all that. Maybe this once, now our own Trump has pretty much won here, you'll look to our country, and at least, see what's going on. It might not be a war or anything on that order of magnitude. But it still fucking matters

Why is right-wing populism outmatching left-wing populism across the Globe?

It’s so much easier to make people feel afraid than it is to make them feel hopeful or safe or supported. Right wing populism preys on people’s fears and stokes pre-existing anxieties, while also providing an individual “strongman” that people can look to for resolution. Simple and effective.

If we look at left-wing policies or general ideological talking points, they require both:

an inherent empathy/sympathy for strangers and community alike

a strong persistence to work against pre-existing institutions/structures to achieve that which isn’t often simple

It requires more effort, more funding, and occasionally can’t be simplified into layman’s terms, which ostracizes those who can’t reach higher education. This, above all else, is what makes right-wing populist rhetoric so effective - it’s approachable. It doesn’t ask you to care for others (quite the opposite) outside of your own interests. It’s comforting to have a powerful leader who “isn’t afraid to speak the truth” or “tell it like it is”, when the preceding leaders have all spoken outside your comprehension and made you feel isolated from your country in their education, class, and/or status.

Really, right-wing populism is in vogue because it’s so much easier to understand and so much easier to exercise. It doesn’t ask for much - it certainly doesn’t ask for us to follow rules or facts. It’s chameleon, and its rhetoric shapes to what would reach the most people regardless of how plausible, reasonable, or respectable it is.

Yeah of course Wilders brought the government down to prompt snap elections. He's banking on the PVV sweeping into power so he can then DOGE everything.

And it will probably work, too, because everyone else is fractured, leaving him the biggest and loudest focal point of the entire political scene. Which means politically disengaged people, who are also mildly racist, will rally to him as the "cool, badass" option.

We hebben allemaal gezien hoe het is afgelopen met BREXIT, hoe zijn jullie als volk zo naïef dat de angst van volk anders dan poldermodel jouw stem volledig beïnvloed

Ik wed dat de meesten nog nooit met immigranten om tafel hebben gezeten. Jullie hebben ons nooit in de ogen gekeken en gezien als mens. Ik vertik het om rond te lopen als geslagen hond, verdomme. Ik heb tanden en ik bijt.

Tetsu-san, ik heb een vraagje voor je: Wat is jouw mening over Geert Wilders van de PVV?

Ik heb daar toevallig al wel eens over opgelaten! (trigger warning: als ik mijn eerlijke mening moet geven over Nederlandse politiek, dan moeten we het ook hebben over mijn verleden met seksueel misbruik- het is relevant) Zelf ben ik centraal, niet links of rechts en Geert Wilders gaat af en toe echt te ver. Maar hier en daar heeft hij wel een goed punt en bijna geen enkele politicus zou slechter zijn als Premier in vergelijking met zijn voorganger. (VVD aanhangers kunnen mijn kont kussen net nadat ik heb gescheten- Yesilgoz is Rotte's slijmbal). Ik HAAT Rotte (Rutte). Hij naaide Nederland naar de putte. Ik kan doorgaan met kutrijmpjes. Zíjn voorganger, Premier Balkenende werd altijd 'Bal ellende' genoemd en hij heeft die specifieke bal echt doorgegeven aan Rotte. Ik heb al eens in een post gehint dat er wel meer schandalen zijn zoals de toeslagenaffaire maar die zitten nog in de doofpot. Dat weet ik, want ik ben een van de slachtoffers. De post is een beetje een rant want ik was zo emotioneel en de reacties rondom de Quiet On Set documentaire maakte veel in mij los, maar wat ik zei in mijn post over veranderingen in het zorgsysteem dat mijn seksueel misbruik heeft veroorzaakt- dat is wat ik bedoel. Mijn ex die mijn misbruikt heeft was slachtoffer van dit schandaal en heeft van mij indirect ook een slachtoffer gemaakt. Tot de dag van vandaag is dat ook mijn voornaamste reden dat ik nooit aangifte heb gedaan. Want hoewel hij het heeft gedaan, het is de schuld van kabinet Rotte, en ik zal nooit een echt excuus van hun krijgen, laat staan een schadevergoeding voor de emotionele littekens. Ik haat weinig mensen, maar Rotte is iemand die ik echt haat. Ik zal nooit die ene speech vergeten. Het was misschien zo'n 7 jaar geleden(?), en hij had het over 'normale Nederlanders'. Maar zijn uitspraken sloten bepaalde groepen uit. Als je denkt aan mensen met een handicap/aandoening als een van die groepen dan geef ik je een koekje. Want Rotte's beleid ging ten koste van het zorgsysteem. Moest er bezuinigt worden? Het zorgsysteem en andere fondsen voor mensen met een aandoening zoals uitkeringen voor arbeidsongeschiktheid waren ALTIJD de klos. Geert is tenminste eerlijk dat hij een minderheid haat. Rotte zei het nooit, maar de manier waarop hij continu mensen met een handicap/aandoening naaide en buitensloot spreekt boekdelen. Mijn hart brak tijdens dat interview al die jaren geleden. Ik weet nog precies wat ik dacht. 'Zijn wij niet normaal voor jou? Ik gedraag me als een goede burger... Waarom behandel je mensen zoals mij alsof we geen normale mensen zijn?' 'Jullie hebben mijn onschuld verwoest en ik zal het nooit terugkrijgen, en jij DURFT je bek nog open te trekken en mij een na-trap te geven?' 'Waarom is die man zo harteloos? Ik heb nooit iets gedaan om dit te verdienen. Ik was een kind godverdomme! Ik was maar een meisje van 15, jij ouwe lul!' 'Ik ben een mens. Ik ben een mens. Ik ben een mens en ik verdien respect.' 'Hij wilt mensen een klap voor hun bek geven? Hij verdient er zelf een!' (hij had in die tijd ook nog relschoppers rond Oud&Nieuw bedreigd) Dus ja, zelfs Wilders is nog beter als je het mij vraagt. Hou zo'n MONSTER nu ook nog die NAVO positie heeft?! Hij en moraliteit?! Alsjeblieft, er is geen ziekere grap.

Also to the people who aren't from the Netherlands, being like "good job electing a fascist Netherlands. Time to never go there bla bla you fucked yourself up!" Shut up. Go fuck yourself. Yes. They got a quarter of the votes. Yes it fucking sucks. But first of, three quarters of the country still didn't vote for him. And secondly. WE DON'T FUCKING NEED YOU TRYING TO PUSH US DOWN EVEN MORE.

If you're going to speak on what's going on, yes recognise this fucking sucks. But how about instead of blaming the whole damn country, you try and stand with the people who didn't vote for Wilders. Stand with the people who will be his victims. How about instead of just blaming everyone, you simply stand against the shit and with those who need fucking support right now. And if you can't do that, if all you want to do is bitch at us about it, just don't. We have enough of that already. We don't need to be pointing blame.
