I just finished the first two blocks of the baby quilt! It looks better in person. The one on the left is a little more green than it looks. They’re mostly ironed, but they’ve been in storage for a bit. I’ll iron them again when I put the prices together.
I'm really happy with the second rounds on the two blocks I've pieced so far!
I love how the pale yellow bee print reflects the pale yellow of the floral centre in the top block, and with the way the prints communicate, I feel like the last round needs to match the grey of the leaf!
As for the lower block, I love how the gold in the sunflower print really pulls out the gold in the black centre! I do wish the honeycomb print lined up a little better, but I just batch cut those pieces, so next time I use that print, I might be a little fussier with my cutting. Regardless, I love how the block is turning out and I'm getting the feeling that a black print for the last round might make it really pop!
All the pieces cut out for 25 blocks on this pink and purple ombre quilt. Really excited to see how it turns out once the blocks are ready to be laid out.
There is a Difference Between Pressing and Ironing. It is important when quilting to press correctly. When you iron your clothes, you move the iron back and forth. Ironing your quilt seams can stretch your fabric out of shape, which can cause problems when piecing your quilt blocks.
In some quilt patterns, the blocks are more “at risk” for stretching seams if triangle pieces are cut at an angle. (Due to the weave of the fabric, Fabric stretches more on an angle, also called the bias.)
When you iron the seams in your quilt block, PRESS them. Don’t iron them. Pressing means moving your iron up and down and applying even firm pressure. When you need to move your iron to another part of your seam, pick it up and move it. Don’t slide it.
Got back to working on my Ice Cream Soda blocks over the weekend and finished two more of the ones I started back in February!
The yellow one is much more subtle and low contrast, and I love how it looks! The only complaint I have is that the centre is a golden yellow while the outermost round is a little more lemony. I would have liked them to match a little more closely, but once they're joined with the rest of the blocks, I'm sure it will be barely noticeable!
As for the black and floral block, I really love the way the fussy cut flowers make a ring around the outside of the block, such a beautiful effect!
Shhh... it's a secret, but here's this quilt I'm working on for some friends and their new baby (not posting everywhere so there's a chance they won't see it).
Testing a concept for a radiation symbol using stripped fabric. Made a mouse pad because I happened to have the supplies on hand. The binding is trash.
