Matt

Matt's faith in the show is really important and well explored; one of the first scenes of the show is Matt going to confession (or, well, talking to his priest since he's not really confessing at that point). Matt struggles a lot with what he's supposed to do; everyone's telling him to kill the villain and he kinda wants to, but he literally says: "I know my soul is damned if I take his life". He struggles with his faith and goes with his doubts to his priest, and it's beautiful—also when he finally gets a costume for his vigilanteing he chooses to dress as the devil, lol. (His priest tells him that nothing makes people run to Church faster than the feeling of having the devil on their heels.)

honestly i dont wanna type too much but i feel that matt is a great example of someone who battles with his faith because he rarely loses his faith but rather fights with why he was made the way he was and put through what he was. ok in the comics barring the most current run matt has Mostly been a non-practicing Catholic that very rarely actually does any catholic Activities but ends up falling back into the Mindset and very occasionally dramatically taking confession (ex. in that one issue where he takes confession, basically tells the father that he is uniquely terrible and is thinking about violently murdering someone and when the father says "you can be forgiven" hes like "AUGFH-- NO!!!!!!!!!!" and runs out) when he's gone through some shit. and i love that its so relatable

his catholicism is a huge piece of his characterisation he was raised by nuns in a catholic orphanage, the first scene we ever see him (as an adult and not a flashback) is him going to confession, he is good friend with his priest and has regular debates with him, etc also in s3 he has a huge crisis of faith after he lost A Lot where he stops believing for a while and it's linked to his identity crisis where he actually wants to kill another person (a hard line he previously chose never to cross) and wants to be only daredevil and not matt murdock, when he is both and needs both to exist also when he was a kid his grandmother used to say "watch out for the murdock boys, they've got the devil in them" and it created a surprising lot of his issues

So he's both catholic in the comics and the show but he's More Catholic in the show. Like, raised in a catholic orphanage by nuns (ONE OF WHICH IS HIS *MOTHER*), second scene in the show has him in a confession box kind. Matt Murdock goes out and gets the shit beaten out of him nightly and also beats the shit out of other people and purposefully leaned into devil iconography as his theme. When his nurse friend says, he takes a lot of punishment without one complaint he says "That part's the Catholicism." It is a Core Aspect of his character (at least in the show). He makes me insane. So Daredevil struggles with his mission as a crime fighter because killing criminals goes against his faith. He makes it a point to not kill criminals, believing that even bad people deserve a second chance. This philosophy puts him at odds against The Punisher, who is a relentless killer. As a Catholic myself, while I love the concept of a morally conflicted superhero, I think the worldbuilding around Daredevil is lacking. If he struggles with violence and killing, why doesn't he pray to warrior saints like Saint Michael, Saint Ignatius of Loyola (a former knight), or Saint Joan of Arc? Why isn't there a community of other Catholics he can turn to for guidance, considering New York City has a sizeable population of Catholics? And why are the churches he goes to always empty? Doesn't he know that the Catholic Church supports the just war theory? I think that would have made his burden more bearable.

He goes to church and confesses to punching people and says "imma do it again can i apologize in advance" and the father dude says "no you're meant to stop now" and Matt says "no" and they do this everyday. I'm not remembering it properly but this is a canon interaction i swear

Not everyone is called to service. In the day he works at a defense lawyer to help people. Not for the money but to help people not get screwed over by the law. And at night, he dons a mask and beats up assholes when the law fails them. Is he perfect? No, that's the point. Matt is a broken man who is just trying his best to do well and live like Jesus.

Okay so i marked yes because the wiki says he was raised catholic but i can't find a source on that so here is what i for sure know: He does the sign of the cross with his gun when you play as him in the mercenaries mode and a major part of his character was that he grew up in an extremely backwater part of Spain. The head of the village when he lived there had the title of Father so thats Probably Catholic. A side novel released with the game about the village describes the village head as a priest and everyone in the village attending church on Sunday as well.

this guy drives me nuts for a variety of reasons including same age as my mom (not now but the game is set in 2004 so he would be now) he's very goofy and silly in a pretty scary kind of game, he eats floor three times in his second cutscene, and he has an extremely emotional and touching death scene (yeah he dies and im not over it). Also in the OG version of the game the protagonist literally never pronounces his name right even as he is dying (he dies in the original too yeah) so he deserves a break.

Duo

Canonically he was an orphan taken in by the Church and raised by a priest, whose name he takes as his own. Obviously raised in the faith, even if he expresses doubts and is lapsed during the events of the series. He wears a clerical shirt the entire run of the series.

One of my very favorite characters, Duo Maxwell was the first Catholic anime character I ever saw who wasn't a nun with a machine gun. He does struggle with his faith: as a child learning from the priest (in the mostly canonical prequel Episode Zero) he expresses doubt in God, because he sees no miracles, but he does see a lot of dead people, so perhaps there is a god of death (shinigami). The priest laughs and says that Duo will make an excellent priest one day. When he takes up fighting in his Gundam Deathscythe, fitted to have a grim reaper theme complete with scythe, he calls himself shinigami, and speaks of himself as evil and destined for hell, which shows classical Catholic guilt over his role as child soldier/guerilla/terrorist.

He is ironically catholic, only believes in gods of death, yet becomes a Catholic Priest in the sequel of the series.

Catholicism doesn’t really exist in the game but it also kind of does. Basically, Johnathan didn’t know that God existed until one day all the angels started coming down from heaven to have a war with the demons from hell. And then Johnathan made a pledge to go serve god and heaven and kill all humans living on earth because they were like “unfit” or “unclean” or something. So then Johnathan’s friend Walter goes to hang out with satan and then they become enemies :( But he’s basically catholic even if he doesn’t directly call himself that so i’m gonna say yes.

And then i don’t really remember what happens but johnathan was essentially the most catholic guy in existence considering i don’t know anybody else who was chill enough with god to do steven universe fusion with him.

Being catholic is literally the only thing he allowed himself to keep that he got from his father (who was a priest who turned out to be cannibal feasting on children in the orphanage he built). Ex thief/assassin after her ex-girlfiend leaves her for dead she tries to go on a revenge quest but fails and becomes a nun to repent her previous sins. During the first game she joins your party because she had a vision of God telling her to do so (nevermind that her faith belives that god has left humanity to die after the death of his human spouse). If she survives the events of the game, meaning you don't try to destroy an extremly valuable religious relic in front of her causing her to turn on you and fight you to the death, she goes on to become the spymaster for the pope. During the third game she becomes your spymaster and you can even make her the new pope, if this happens her policies bring her many enemies but they all misteriously disappear after challenging her publically. If she dosen't survive the first game she still shows up in the third one with the same role but instead of beign a normal person she is a magic ghost of misterious origin that is somehow connected to rocks that are also blood and is pretending to be a normal human beign. She is even bisexual

her introduction is her walking up to you and going 'god told me to leave being a nun and help you.' she's a spy who worked for the pope. she's bisexual. she can have an elven mage partner and then immediately go 'okay guys mages and elves are cool now also the clergy can fuck now' and then she goes and fucks her (well known) elven mage partner. her views on religion are really accepting but also she founds An Inquisition with the intent of threatening someone into the position of 'inquisitor'. (This never happens but she would have done it.)

early leliana dragonage propaganda. the way leliana is introduced is by walking up to the player and telling them she got a vision from god saying to help them defeat evil. she also works for the catholic church and can be the literal pope. she helps start the second inquisition, which is like, really bad morally, but also very catholic of her. if you defile the ashes of her prophet you have to kill her and she comes back as a magic ghost to work for the church

She is the archbishop of a religion she created surrounding herself, and her mother.

Not really evil, just went a bit crazy trying to bring back her murdered mom, and kind of controlled a continent through religion, and the bones and blood of her fellow dragon/people that were killed along with her mother, along with some of her own blood.

He is, first, called a bishop, and ministers to a diocese. There are archbishops and a high single leader, as well as many schisms and heresies. The degree of control his religion has in choosing and in the government emulates that of pre-Enlightenment Europe. The Bulb (his god) is very Christian God. There isn’t really so much of a version Mary analogue (sad because I love her) or a Jesus analogue, though.

So far this man has only existed for one episode but GOD does he have some shit going on!! Described as being "built to lie" by his player, Raphaniel has mysterious motives and loves to play the part of a sweet old man. Even when someone questioned his sect of the church to his face (I'm sensing a church split is about to occur) he just smiled along and talked about how the Bulb shines on them all.

She was raised by a very Catholic-looking nun (tho they never actually say that she's Christian or catholic, just a nun who is visually obviously Catholic) who tricked her into being immortal. We see her in the present praying in a church that looks very Catholic for the main character's health.

She tries to help the Holy Brittanian Emperor and a few friends kill "God" (actually not God, just the representation of everyone's individuallity that, if killed, would turn humanity into a hivemind, who the Holy Emperor calls "God"), gives up being the leader of this plot when one of these friends "dies". By pure coincidence she meets this friend's son (the main character of the show, Lelouch) and tries to trick him into being immortal, and ends up falling in love with him, praying that he survives his dumb sacrifice. He dies. There's a movie about "what if he didn't"

She’s immortal and was on board with a plan to kill god at one point but she is indeed canonically Catholic which really just elevates that up to 11

ok so his family runs a church and some of his cards are like. prayer and Catholicism themed and all that so there’s that. but also it’s used in a funny way. he taught one of the other characters the word “amen” and the other guy started saying “I’ll amen to that!” and now there’s both a 4koma and official Line sticker about it. he’s also a dogshit terrible driver and one of his cards is him sitting in a car at the wheel. the card title is “Godspeed.” its so inexplicably funny to me.

He is so fucking insane man it's enstars. People have killed other people in this game. And this is just an anime boy idol rhythm game that looks normal on the outside...

Post game, he and whatever wife he may have taken, build an orphanage and raise lonely children like he once was. He is courted by both men and women alike, and is widely believed to be the reincarnation of Naga(basically lady Dragon God)

Knuckles is very heavily Christ-coded - walking on water, resurrection, prophecies, the whole nine yards. Not necessarily Catholic specifically, but I feel like there’s a comparison to be made between the Brotherhood and the Catholic Church as a structure. Also he’s made it to the semi finals of the Christ coded tournament if that means anything to you

Father Anderson

He’s probably on some kind of crack during the entirety of the series, I literally don't remember any aspects of him other than the fact that he just goes “AMENNNN” sometimes and has a habit of stabbing the shit out if anything that isn’t catholic. He’s the founder of deranged catholic bastard gaming, he has to be.

Semi immortal scottish priest who works for the vatican's secret vampire killing order. He can carry an absurd number of bayonets on his person and teleport using bible pages. Hates the protestants and has beef with Dracula at the point that while they are both fighting against the army of nazi vampires who are invading London he tries to kill him because Dracula makes himself vulnerabile. He's more than ready to lead a crusade against England but when his boss (who Anderson himself raised) admits that it's for a personal power grab and not for any kind of religious reason he dosen't hesitate to kill him in cold blood. Eventually dies after becoming an holy abomination by stabbing his hearth whit a piece of the cross

He’s so out of his mind he battles jacked up twink Count Dracula, AKA Alucard with bayonets. Not a rifle, just bayonets. He’s merciless, constantly spouting off bible quotes and speaking of his hate for Protestants. He’s a member of the Judas Iscariot Organization, Vatican Section XIII, within the Irish Catholic Church. He becomes so obsessed with his desire to kill the Vampire Alucard, formerly Dracula, he impales himself through the heart with the Nail of Helena in order to transform into a humanoid monster of holy thorns. Though his attempts fail, as Alucard rips his heart out and returns him to dust, Anderson is described as “his beloved rival”. He is complex, badass and wickedly devout.

Michael

Michael is the BEST CHARACTER in the ENTIRE SERIES. I'm not just talking favorite characters here, he's the final moral authority in the series. He is the Big Good. When the nonreligious MC has a problem of morality, Michael is the one he and the entire narrative turn to. He is tempted. He has struggled. And he's trusted by archangels and is a paladin in a real-world setting and he and his wife are deeply in love and have eight kids and. He makes me happy, okay.

Michael is a Knight of the Cross, working closely with Father Forthill and Saint Mary of the Angels. His power literally comes from how strong his faith is. The man's Catholicism basically gives him superpowers.
