Hi! Sorry if this ask is quite random for you to see, but is it ok to ask you that
On a scale of 1-10, how sexist and/or misogynistic would you rate the book Watership Down being?
I’m considering checking out the book, but I’m unsure whether I should do that or not due to the possible sexism within it. Thanks!
If you can't handle sexism, I would skip Watership Down. It's pretty bad in that aspect, enough that Ursula K Le Guin uses it as a major example of how misogyny expresses in xenofiction narratives.
In spite of how doe rabbits are the ones responsible for founding new warrens, the main characters are all bucks.
Does are spoken about a lot in terms of reproduction, and mostly that.
There is a massive plot point later where the all-buck party realizes they need women, and set out to get them.
There's an evil rabbit warren, and they show that this warren is evil partially because of some implied sexual assault of the does they control.
It was also written by a White British Man Of A Certain Era. It will sometimes drop a line that we find VERY racist in today's standards, particularly near the beginning where it compares the rabbit culture to... "other primitive societies."

Btw if you see any TikTok with the caption ‘What I Eat in a Day as someone who eats a lot’ skip that shit cos chances are, they don’t even eat a lot and are just promoting unhealthy ideas surrounding food. You don’t need to feel guilty for eating when it’s a prime source of enjoyment and is literally something you need to do to like, survive.

i feel like fem narrator would be really into friends (the tv show). she would totally buy into the whole nineties craze over it. not enthusiastically, though, more so in the sense that she’d just watch re-runs of it for hours on end with her eyes glazed over. maybe she would even get “the rachel” haircut. but she wouldn’t be able to do the upkeep it requires so it would grow out uneven and shaggy. but she’d definitely *try* to style it every morning and probably end up with crazy heat damage.

Bro fell down the Power Rangers Zord Variety rabbit hole, allowing me to bring up my joking annoyance that Toei has not yet done the obvious and given us a dinosaur-themed Precure season.
Come on. Look me in the eye. TELL ME it wouldn’t be sick as hell. It’s new and fresh when the blue PRECURE’s the Triceratops!

Thinking about that one YT video that goes in-depth about liminal spaces in video gaming by sorbino, and how people that view them fall into one of two categories: those that are endowed with nostalgia and the sense that they've been there before (regardless as to whether or not they were born in the era those spaces originated from), and those that feel the looming dread and fear and the hint of otherness, that sensation of wrongness that scrapes along the surface of your brain just looking upon them.
I guess I would fall into the first camp, although not so much with the familiarity and nostalgia; it's more like I can relax and put my guard down when I see them. It reminds me how, as silly and goofy some of these places used to look, they at least had heart to them. Not like today, how you'd look at them from your window out of the car you're in and see the buildings that once were colorful and bombastic are now just redesigned to have the same cold, sterile, corporate aesthetic.
(That's a deeper dive I can get into that sort of goes outside of the bounds of this topic, but I think you get where I'm going with it.)
