explanation: its for a story set in a post apocalypse hundreds of years after a nuclear war. a mutated version of the rabies virus has infected humans and animals all over the world, creating zombie-like highly dangerous creatures.

pros/cons for A pros: because living in the post apocalypse right? the whole world is out to get you, your constantly being hunted. this allows me to have things like birds and shit which is nice cons: wolves man. and coyotes and foxes and lynxes and etc. theres a lot of cool wolf imagery that i am a SUCKER for but it just wont be possible.

pros/cons for B pros: this means only mammals and basically only predator animals. also the symbolism bc even though some of them might feel invincible, they very much can get the disease, which wouldnt be as goof for say, a bird character, bc birds dont get rabies. cons: but birds!! i had an idea for a bird character that i rlly like but... wolves...

Naturally, my take on the infection begins with a miscommunication inside the gruesome Rainbow Factory. RF and Cupcakes are canon to this AU of mine, though they diverge from the stories. Scootaloo hasn't taken the flight test yet, and Pinkie pulled a different Pony's number.

Dash tries to keep this upset under wraps at first but it somehow got out in Cloudsdale. It mutates, going from the Pegasi, and starts to infect Unicorns and Earthponies.

I'm slowly working on 6 Special Infected, based after the Mane Six! I have three done so far, but I'll wait to post them when I finish the rest.

This whole au is also heavily inspired by Left 4 Dead!

Rainbow Dash facts: She was holed up in the factory for a while, attempting to direct her efforts into hiding the virus to keep the perfect image of the Pegasi. However, it gets out regardless and infects the employees and civilians of Cloudsdale. She takes her work to Twilight, who has her own suspicions on Dash and the origins of this disease.

She had to cut some of her tail to escape the Factory from those infected.

Rainbow Dash's Main Items:

Cattle Prod, meant for the Flight Test Failures. It can hook to the loop on her flank. It still triggers the muscles inside those infected.

Secret Files. She was lucky enough to grab them before they got ruined. Typically something only for her eyes, but she has no other choice but to head to Twilight for added help.

Pigment Samples, infused with the infection. The glass vials are strong, and won't break easily.

Zombie stories would be far more interesting if you didn't know if a particular bite turns you into a zombie. If you know, then that character is already dead and hiding the bite just makes them a danger to everyone for no good reason. But if you don't? Then you might have weeks of watching and waiting and tension as everyone tries to figure out if that person will live or is already dead but walking. It also gives the writer the opportunity to have a society's behavior reflect the choices of bite victims. Are people with bites thrown out even while it is not yet certain if they have the illness or not? People will be more likely to hide bite, in turn endangering the community. Support and care, on the other hand, are more likely to cause people to be honest.

You can even turn it into a story about medical care accessibility. The prevention exists but is very expensive and that bite probably wasn't deep enough. Right? Right???

So with the rabies virus you have time after the exposure to get a vaccine but if you don't it's like 100% fatal and I think there should be a zombie story where that's how the zombie infection works, so you could have a group of people trying to get their friend to a clinic while the apocalypse is happening and Fighting of zombies and bandits

She lost most of her sanity after the first month of the infection. She got excited to be herself and slice other ponies to pieces, and maybe even share the joy with her friends.

She's been bouncing around Ponyville with reckless abandon, until she found Applejack looking for Applebloom. With a new task to find her apprentice and family, she teams up with her friend.

Pinkie Pie's Main Items:

Unicorn Horns from previous harvests. Jabbing one of these suckers into the heads of those infected get the job done, just as well as bashing them in with a shovel.

Bag of Flour she uses to throw and take the zombies off their hooves.

Slabs of Cut Out Cutie Marks from previous harvests. Tossing these around, she uses colors she has to drag zombies away from certain areas.

Kitchen Knife for impossible situations
