today i deleted three text threads that were way overdue. i do this back and forth thing where in one moment i'll feel my worth and be ruthless in checking people who waste my time, but i am also sentimental and empathetic, so within hours i'll remember that everybody has their own shit going on, and remind myself not to take it personally if somebody else has not reached a point in their life and growth where they are ready for an energy like mine, and i soften and reach out. i backtrack and try to send love out. i sit with my fickle-looking text threads and simmer in the knowledge that to the recipients, all of this will look like madness, like weakness. but here's where the strength is: i don't care. from each interaction i learn my limits, i am reminded that i exist outside how i am perceived, and i become firm in the knowledge that i would rather be loving than be nothing. i will reach for you and reach for you and reach for you and then i will stop. so today i stopped. i removed those names from my inbox. then i left the house without my ID, and tried to buy cigarettes, and the man literally would not sell them to me. i am 33 goddamn years old. shit is already making me look younger. #BELOVINGORBENOTHING #radicalsoftness

I want to talk, as briefly as I can, about love and community. It's been an emotionally trying time full of tears and anger and moments that caught me beautifully off guard. Some times I felt loved this week: -seeing so many people share and amplify my work when I was simply too saddened by recent events to do it myself -witnessing the droves of people continue to protest despite being met with violence. -every time someone refused to let #breonnataylor be forgotten -seeing @convictjulie and the people around her showing up despite how poorly ACPD behaved. In All About Love, bell hooks asks us to understand love as a verb, a PRACTICE of continually showing up. She tasks us with defining love as tangible actions so that we may know love and love others as they deserve. I am a full believer in Richard Wilbur's words "love calls us to the things of this world" and that's in large part due to this book here. Earlier this week I stated that I wanted to share some necessary reading with you guys and started with Anne Braden's Letter to Southern White Women. I hope you read it. It's a short, powerful read that's unfortunately still relevant. I'm sharing these because I recognize the fact that I am sharing space with and selling to a far more diverse group of people than I ever have before and I want to show up in this space with you as my full self, safely. A lot of you expressed sincere intentions but feared you didn't have the words because I trust and love as my neighbors in this world I believe you and am choosing to help as an act of love. I encourage you all to develop a practice of love that the people around you truly feel and can see. It begins with doing the work.
