The Raft Of Medusa
Tumblr media
In 1816, a raft carrying 147 people was abandoned in the ocean. On the second day a mutiny broke out. 65 passengers died while the survivors resorted to canabalism shortly of complete starvation and thirst. After 13 days, a ship rescued the crew by chance with only 15 people left on board.

SCENE DE NAUFRAGE 2023
This has nothing to do with anything. I just thought this image of US Navy personnel retrieving wreckage of the Chinese spy balloon was incredibly painterly and worth saving for future reference.
It reminds me a little of Théodore Géricault's "Scène de Naufrage" (aka "The Raft of the Medusa").

book crozier and little have such a fun relationship from what i've already seen. crozier Gets him on a really endearing level and i am... slightly sad that "hey. ned. come here i need to say something sarcastic that would go down poorly in any other company" didn't make it into the show.

Announcement!
If you saw my Terror Camp presentation analyzing The Raft of the Medusa and The Terror, I'm going to be recording a full version in the new year! There's a lot to expand on, and if you were interested in the discussion (i'll also be working on a full essay for History as a Panopticon), keep an eye on this blog for updates.

I did stop by a pop-up sale and get some nice posters of melodramatic old paintings, so that's something. Goya's Colossus, something Romantic called Spirit of War, and a glorious interior of the Pantheon that's unfortunately peopled with simpering rococo gentlefolk
