sorry ahead of time if this is a weird Q, i've been a follower for some time! i went to VCUarts but i dropped out when covid hit and for personal reasons i'm probably not going to go back even though i'd really like to, so i've been piecing together my own art education. were there any subjects/projects you were exposed to in the program that changed the way you approach art? one of the last classes i was able to take was a typography class and it opened my eyes to a design world i hadn't considered. you have such strong graphic design skills and it'd be really cool to hear what helped you develop!
Hey, thank you! and not at all - i totally get that, and i love talking about design lol. i rly enjoyed the gdes program but i kinda wish i could take it again now, i dont think i appreciated it as much as i could have when i was there 😭. as is life ig. i think def the biggest thing that i learned was about using typography and trying to develop an eye for it. im bad at the math parts of it but usually i can eyeball the negative space well enough. basically getting used to considering typography as graphic parts of a composition as opposed to just placing text on top of a graphic.
i think whats honestly most helpfully informed my own design work is honestly just trying to look at and collect as much "cool stuff" as possible. i follow a lot of random design instagram accounts (tbh u can just look thru the graphic design tags on insta and pinterest) even if i dont necessarily respect the artist (LMAO) even if they just do one thing rly interesting. also following some more experimental and a lot of art book/publication/zine accounts because theyre def gonna have some of the cooler graphic design work for print format especially.
one thing about insta (and tiktok tbh) thats both annoying and helpful is that with all the promoted posts you end up seeing a lot of whats currently "trending" for design, if ur following enough design accounts. like the truck sticker i just did on twitter is actually using an effect i learned from an insta reel that popped up on my feed lol.
one assignment from a class i rly appreciated was doing "make-a-days" where you basically made an image every day. didnt matter the quality or what it was but you just had to make something. it was good for experimenting and trying new things. also just picking a theme and making fake graphics/posters for my friends comics or something i liked.
i would also say that my personal biggest strength is that im just rly good at the programs, so i can ideate really quickly and its easier to figure out how to get a certain effect i want, and specifically how to copy a style I saw from something cool i saw somewhere :) outside my more bolder lines and compositional style (i dont have enough patience for rendering 99% of the time) i have a pretty flexible style because i usually have an end product or look in mind. also im usually inspired by other artists i follow online a lot too. but honestly just take the time to rly get used to ur program of choice and what effects settings and filters it has.
biggest advice is collect as many cool images as you can find and figure out what you like across them and how you can copy it for whatever ur making.

RANDOM SEIJOH HCs ACCORDING TO GIGI
a/n: this is a thing i cooked up between doing trig exam and ap gov review akdsjfldskfj
Tumblr media
IM PRETTY SURE I ALREADY USED THIS GIF BUT IM WANTING TO RE-DO MY ENTIRE PAGE AND MAKING BANNERS SO THIS IS A TEMPORARY THING AJDJDJJD ALSO I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THE KEEP READING THING ON THE APP BYE
oikawa def listens to indie music just bc he wants to feel unique and the 'iM diFfErENt fRoM oTHeR gUrLs' vibes
i FIRMLY BELIEVE IWAIZUMI HAJIME IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO CHOMPS ON HIS ICE CREAM BC HE LIKES TO FEEL THE COLD ON HIS TEETH AKSJSKSKSK
meanwhile kunimi eats a kitkat like its pizza just CHOMP
makki caNNOT sleep without a pillow between his thighs LIKE LISTEN he has 2 sisters and they all told him its so comfortable and at first he was like,, ??,, then he tried and now cant sleep without it
bUT MATTSUN LIKES TO SLEEP WITH PILLOWS SURROUNDING HIM bc it makes him feel safe and like there are two body pillows on either side of him and hes kinda trapped in the middle aksjskdk
when kyo was younger, he was really short and although he had other pants, he loved this one pair but they were really long on him and he wore it all the time and the part of the pants that touched the ground is torn in shreds
kindaichi steps on the sofa before sitting LIKE puts one foot on the cushion then the other until hes literally standing on the couch before folding to sit with his knees up to his chest (i do this)
watari sniffs his food before eating it no matter if its something he eats all the time or something new, he still sniffs it either way
yahaba is really particular with his feet and he likes to get a really big tupperware (duh one only meant for his feet) and fill it up with warm almost boiling water and he just soaks them
oikawa has sleep paralysis and he oftens hallucinates about aliens in the corner of his room
kunimi does this thing where he makes weird noises with his mouth like sounds of his mouth opening LIKE when youre tastinf something new and you do that sound with your tongue (I DUNNO HOW TO DESCRIBE IT AJDKSKKD)
makki bends his knees just to crack his ankles
iwa sneezes a ton but he has those sneezes where theyre quiet that you dont even notice or really loudly that it just echoes throughout the gym
kyo sleeps with one sock on bc his feet gets cold easily but both socks make him feel really hot so only one sock is perfect
for a tall and hunk of a guy, mattsun is a very light walker like his footsteps are very light and if he wants to, it can be practically silent
watari actually hates vegetables ajssksksk he particularly hates zucchini, eggplants, any vegetables that are that shape
kindaichi likes to stick or lean against walls because to him, they feel cold and can decrease his body heat
oikawa stands and places his feet at V position like \/ instead of ll because his sister did ballet and he was taught that was the right way of standing and it was considered graceful
yahaba has a fear of cactuses
mattsun does so badly in the heat because his body temp runs so high and the hot surroundings make him feel so uncomfortable and so he takes a lot of cold showers
iwa cannot swim like he freaks out immediately when his toetips can no longer feel the bottom and he panics with thoughts of drowning
watari has really small feet that he still buys big kids shoes to save money
kyotani considered playing baseball because he thought baseball bats were cool but he got angry and threw tantrum after missing his first pitch
iwa chomps on a whole raw chili while eating ramen akskksks
oikawa actually hates sweets bc when he was younger, he had cavities and iwa showed him a cartoon of cavities eating his teeth and will make him toothless
kindaichi really really likes hugs but hes too awkward to ask them even from his parents
yahaba chomps on mints so he goes through boxes of them in a week
i feel like theres a boy in the team who doesnt brush their teeth everyday and rubs a towel on their teeth to make it look clean and take mints to hide their bad breath
iwaizumi is actually iron deficient so he bruises super super fast and he even developed iron defiency anemia when he was younger bc his parents didnt catch on which caused him to be put on strong medication for months and still takes it now
WAIT,, OIKAWA IS LACTOSE INTOLERANT BUT HE LIKES MILK SO HE EATS MILK BREAD TO MAKE HIM FEEL NOT SO BAD OR GUILTY OF CONSUMING STRAIGHT DAIRY
seijoh four bonding time is watching gordom ramsey shows and yelling and screaming 'YEA! EXACTLY!' as if theyre also cooking genuises
watari used to eat grapes all the time until his mom got worried and told him if he doesnt stop, he will eventually turn into one. he only eats it every few weeks
when he was younger, kunimi cried because he had befriended a chicken on a trip to a farm and his mom took him to eat fried chicken after and he thought it was Chicky (his chicken friend :"))
kyotani used to stick out his tongue when it was raining so he could taste the raindrops. they taste better than bottled water
one time, during a seijoh sleepover, they dared oikawa to wear his sisters old uniform, skirt and all, and it backfired so everyone turned red and couldnt look at him in the face
their pregame ritual is touching each other's shoe tips
they tried doing yoga at yahaba's house before by watching yoga youtube videos but everyone ended up having to go to the chiropractor after (how did makki even turn into the human pretzel?)
the local gym gets so scared when they see the team coming through the doors bc these men are so LOUD like they HYPE EACH OTHER UP SO MUCH THEYRE SO ANNOYING AKSKSKDK
also never take them to an all you can eat sushi place. if you do, bring them earlier of the day like 30 mins after opening time so the cooks can cook enough for them without running out of ingredients (even then sometimes they still run out)
oikawa used to eat his mom's roses from her garden because he thought it would make his farts smell good like roses
takahiro is a surprisingly good artist like he draws really cool action fighting scenes in the corner of his papers and stuff
in my work: it's canon that iwa is half filo and his nanay used to dress him up in a barong all the time during halloween bc she wanted him to showcase his heritage
yahaba drinks a lot of milk because he hopes to one day grow strong and bulky like the 3rd years instead of being seen as a pretty boy
kindaichi's mom is a hairstylist and she always scolds him for using a lot of gel bc she's always the one who washes his hair
makki never learned how to do taxes and hes had the government knocking on his door a handful of times (BOKUTO AKKDJSKKS)
kyo has a dog: a chiweenie
there's someone on the team who wears those socks with individual pockets for toes
their pinterest is so different from what they look like for example, mattsun has a board of different flower decorations and arrangements
kunimi throws up during intense horror movies
watari's celeb crush is emma watson
the team alternates from different music genres like from ateez and bts to mxmtoon and beach bunny
they still dont know how to pronounce camila cabello's name
theyre all active in social media but only oikawa is on it 24/7 and in all platforms while the others have insta and snap
mattsun has twins as little siblings and he used to get them mixed up all the time that he used to draw a sharpie dot on the girl's forehead to determine she was his sister
watari hates sitting on the floor bc his butt bone hurts really easily so he can only sit on cushions for long periods of time
the team was supposed to have a party but everyone didnt know what to bring so they proved they shared the same braincell by bringing the same thing: a box of pizza
makki's an old soul and prefers to play records on a record player or watch old movies
kyo is surprisingly good at giving massages because he really pushed hard on those tense muscles
kindaichi knows how to crack necks so everyone goes to him a lot to do it (a friend of mine does this and can i say its terrifying yet so good?)
the only one who has a license is matsukawa and thats because granny needs to go to the doctor a lot and he hates her walking by herself and cabs are expensive
kyotani and yahaba are actually,,, lowkey close,,, not like best friends but theyre nice to each other and they got a stick and poke together (yahaba's was: :) while kyo's was: >:))
watari has a collection of mangas (some bl maybe 👀)
WARNING SAD: mattsun’s future job is a funeral person right? he ends up taking care of granny’s funeral free of charge and he had to take a week off because it was really painful for him
oikawa learned spanish SUPER fast to the point he forgets japanese sometimes but there are moments where he forgets both languages and hes just,,,, ???
makki’s unemployed yea but he rooms with mattsun in exchange of cooking because makki’s surprisingly good at cooking
iwa is practically the nutritionist of the team because he knows everything about proteins, carbs, iron, and needed vitamins so they all go to him to know what to eat and what they need
kunimi has lots and lots of shoes but usually only wears 2
kindaichi has a habit of pretending hes chewing gum even though he doesnt have gum, his mouth just chomps and moves with air akasldfjkf
there was a clown phenomenon in america but in their city, they had a mascots and seijoh 4 went around scaring kids :”(
oikawa never manspreads he gets too insecure to spread out like that akdjfkd
kyotani can easily sleep anywhere like he would be standing and just fall asleep or he sleeps with his eyes open
yahaba’s parents own a restaurant somewhere in the city and he works there sometimes
IM REALLY GOING TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS YALL AKSDJFKL

Caraval by Stephanie Garber.
3.5 stars. “Every person has the power to change their fate if they are brave enough to fight for what they desire more than anything.”
my spotify playlist ; my pinterest board and my we heart it collection Well, well, well... Look who it is. Yes, me, your favorite clown. Once more, if you haven't read the book and don't want spoilers, please don't read further. There can be minor or major, so, be careful! I take back something: this book had not been on my shelf for 2 years, bUT FOR 4 YEARS. My dear friend Dai is reading this review, so, hi Dai! I gotta admit that this book had its entertaining parts, and some of them that were weird. Said that, let's start. Plot: Scarlett and Tella live with their abusive father (holy shit, I hate this guy). Scarlett will get married to a count, someone who she doesn't know, hasn't seen in person and who only communicates with her through letters. Scarlett thinks that this marriage will save her and Tella from their father, but suddenly, Legend, the master from Caraval, responds to one of the many many letters that Scarlett wrote to him throughout the years. Legend is inviting her to Caraval. The idea is pretty good, but Scarlett knows what will happen to them if they run away. Tella is conviced she will run and so, she plans to scape with Julian, the sailor with whom she was "kissing". But things get complicated and when Scarlett and Julian arrive in the island of Caraval, Tella is missing. Scarlett, as the good sister she is, starts to looking for her little sister. I don't mind this. The premise and the synopsis was really interesting. But I was waiting to see more magic. I mean, the elements were good and there was some magic, but I felt like me and Scarlett were high as fuck running over random places with some random and suspicious dude. The thing with the clues was very off to me. The fact that Scarlett found all the clues was easy. I mean, no matter where she went, the clue was there. She got them all so easy. And why the other participants didn't get any of them? I know that years' show was especially made for Scarlett, but, really? Many "plots" were predictable. Like, Julian working for Legend and being his brother. Also, when Julian "died", I was like "yeah, I saw that coming". I do, however, liked the vibes and the aesthetic, it was magical. I liked some descriptions. Some names too! There were many places' and people's names in Spanish that was so exciting! The map of my copy was in Spanish and I was like "uhm, there's something wrong with this?" but no, Isla de los Sueños, Castillo Maldito, and many more in Spanish were correct and :') I was screaming for it, jsjsjs. Romance: Uh, your local clown isn't a big fan of insta love. Yes, it felt like it happened a lot of days, but actually they were like 5 and in one of them, they were dead as fuck. Scarlett says to Tella that she can't fall in love with someone who just met... Uhm, Crimson, hun, same with you. *sips tea in the corner* Characters: *sigh* Scarlett was annoying. She's naive (yes, I know because she's been living all her life in a little island, isolated and under the domain of her father. I was reminded of it enough times) and not always just in the normal way. I wanted to kick her several times. Please, dear Crimson, make one lonely decision for your own, is it too much to ask? However, she was brave enough to attempt to jump from a balcony for her sister. She also loves Tella so much and you can see it, her devotion and love. Scarlett is determined to marry someone (even if she might not be happy) to save Tella. The little thing of Scar seeing emotions as colors was confusing for the descriptions. Julian... Well, I can't say a lot of him because I don't know him very well. He lied, several times, but was willing to die in order to help Scarlett. *sigh* Oh, teenage love. His story or plot twists were kind of predictable? When he said his family was related, I got it, everything. He's interesting tho and I wanna know more about him. Tella I actually don't know a lot of her. She's reckless and I like her more than Scarlett, but we just know things as "Tella would make this decision", "Tella would do this", "this is the kind of thing
Tella would like", but we don't get to see her. Yes, I know she was kidnapped and that's why she wasn't there, but like barely in everything Also, the "party" that Legend threw at the end, it didn't feel like a party at all. Like, Scarlett didn't described much more than Angelique talking with Julian and then he explaining everything and them kissing. Look, you see me ranting over little things that I didn't like about Caraval. But I did like many other things. The writting wasn't that bad, the names were cool and, once more, the vibes and aesthetic. Despite of rating Caraval 3.5 stars, I will continue the series because the atmosphere is wonderful, and the prologue left me with questions too. aLSO, I NEED TO MEET THE FAMOUS JACKS AND FALL IN LOVE WITH ANOTHER BLOND ARROGANT AND CHARISMATIC DUDE. Overall: It wasn't bad, tbh. I hadn't many high expectations because lately, many good books end up crushing my hopes and the hype for some books is a fucking lie. Even books break my heart in the most awful way *dramatic air* Anyhow, tHE FUCKING VIBES. I NEED A FUCKING CIRCUS. I have a new guilty pleasure, jsjsjs. Don't mind the "my embarrasing guilty pleasure" shelf. Just guilty pleasure, lol.

Iyia Liu’s Course Review
Iyia Liu’s Course Review
Iyia is a pretty famous entrepreneur right now coming from New Zealand. She’s appeared on the news, and she seems to be among the most successful bloggers right now.
She’s also released a course a few months ago, and it presents a common doubt among entrepreneurs on the internet: should we pay $299 for it?
Let’s answer that question.
Who’s the author?
She’s an insta-blogger who seemingly became a 7-figure entrepreneur, and she’s also been a public speaker in the past. Her course aims towards people who want to venture in eCommerce.
An interesting note, Iyia made the news about a year and a half (give or take) exactly because of the things you don’t want to be on the news. She used to run a cake business, and one of the reasons it was (in)famous was that she started deleting negative comments on Instagram, usually caused by her products that were… mis-marketed.
She sold overpriced products advertised as luxury chocolate arrangements for more than $50, but you ended up getting something looking like a $5 candy mishmash. When people started complaining, she decided to erase everything.
She’s also known because she sold a waist trainer from AliExpress, and she paid Kylie Jenner $300,000 for a single picture on Instagram with it. She claims to have made $3.5 million thanks to that attempt.
She has a mansion over in Auckland, a G Wagon, and a lot more luxuries you can see on Instagram. Let’s see if you can learn how to be the same way she looks.
Reviewing Iyia Liu’s Course
The course hosts in Kajabi, and the sales page isn’t really the best one; it actually makes the purchase process quite difficult. It’s odd how one of the modules here talks about sales funnels after seeing this.
The course starts with an hour and a half webinar, and Iyia tells you what you’ll learn through the course. The course’s key modules cover how you start a business, digital marketing, using influencers, and how to run your PR.
Let’s go through the modules now.
Foundations
The course starts off telling you how you can create your business with a good legal and business basis. You’ll learn about how to structure your business, get a bank account for it, running your accounting, and handling taxes.
You also learn how to brainstorm a business plan. I’m not really fond of doing that since you need to try a lot of things before finding what works. You can think of the general structure of your venture, but you can’t limit yourself to a first-laid idea; if it doesn’t work out, then you may be left clueless.
After that, you have a video detailing how to look up your suppliers and researching them before learning how you contact them and handle their payments. It’s odd how you can see other courses dedicating an entire module to this topic, yet Iyia thinks just one is enough. As you might expect, there’s not much depth here.
You also have videos on how to create your store on Shopify, which is a great platform, and you’ll save money not hiring a web designer or programmer. You also get videos on logo setup, branding, social media, and email address.
It’s good content, but the module is too short, and it needs more.
Marketing basics
The second module is another short one, but the information here is good for beginners. Marketing is the most important side of running an online business, and it does deserve more than what’s offered here. Still, it’s just the fundamentals, so let’s not freak out.
First up, you’ll learn how to create a sales funnel to turn your visitors to sales. You also learn how you integrate it with your store.
There’s also a lesson on how digital and traditional marketing are different as well as running your own PR. You then get a download on how you can find your way into magazines, newspapers, and general print.
You then learn how to market your business with pop-up stores as well as brick and mortar. There’s content missing here, of course, but it’s kind of made up for in the next modules.
Content marketing
Here, you’ll learn how to generate your traffic from the online community, and the main idea is to keep your content from feeling like spam.
You’ll learn how to come up with good content that entices others to buy from you. Yes, that means that you can’t just copy paste your product descriptions from the original supplier listing. You want to write good copies so that people want the product.
You then learn how to build your social media following, increasing your organic traffic. You learn how to do that and keep your audience from unfollowing your business; if you do lose people, you have a lesson on the possible causes. The module closes with blogging and why it’s helpful with traffic.
Influencers
Module 4 goes into how you can use Instagram influencers, but you want to keep in mind that Instagram has been violent against post likes. Luckily, you’ll learn how Iyia approaches influencers, like how she did with Kylie Jenner, so it’s an interesting module; Iyia also touches on negotiating and paying.
There are many different ways you can use influencers for paid engagement, and the course covers that and how you find them, filter the fake ones, and making sure you get good deals from them by studying their engagement.
However, make sure you have enough money to fund this marketing approach. Luckily, there are smaller influencers you can use to generate traffic at good rates.
Paid ads
The 5th module isn’t the best one thanks to how outdated it is. You get some videos about how you can run your video ads and how to set up your Facebook Ads. Interestingly, this module actually convinced me that Iyia doesn’t make a lot of money from her FB marketing.
There’s a lot more you want to learn if you want to run a successful Facebook Ads marketing approach, and there are entire conferences and courses just focused on how to run ads on FB and IG. They’re 2 tools that can turn a random eCommerce venture into a lifelong business that generates up to a million every year.
Moving on, you also learn how to use Google ads to sell your business, and the lack of information from the previous module repeats in this one. Google Ads isn’t just about throwing ads now and then and waiting for hundreds of clicks to come in. You have endless resources and data analysis before you have a successful campaign.
You also learn about how to run your email marketing, and it also covers how to collect leads and use them.
Now, into the topics you won’t find here, you have Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. As you can see, some of the largest marketing platforms are skipped in this section, and those noted are just the most notable ones; Bing and Yahoo aren’t here either, and they’re cheaper ways to get some traffic.
General practices
The last module covers assorted topics, and it’s one of those sections that feel like thrown together and filled with topics the author didn’t know where they should go.
It covers how to scale your business, and related to that, you have lessons on how to outsource tasks and which ones are good for it, how to optimize your website in general, how to turn your customers into regulars and how to provide good customer service.
You also have some personal management strategies like how to pay yourself and knowing when and how you should exit the business. Iyia also shares her own tips.
I’ll be honest, this module has a lot of videos that could go together into a few more modules with added content. I mean, we’re paying $299 here, so Iyia could’ve done a lot better than a few modules with marketing overviews and a final thrown-together section
Luckily, there’s good content here explaining different optimization methods that many successful entrepreneurs (like myself) use, so there’s definitely stuff here you can use. Using a good theme will help you save a lot of money and still increase your store’s performance.
The module closes with how you can sell your store, but don’t think about this just now. You should focus in how to start a store and make it successful before even considering exiting your business. Getting investors into your venture is one of the signs that you should sell your store.
In fact, you might even generate enough traffic and money that you might not want to sell your store for a long time. While it’s a good lesson, just don’t think it’s something you want to do right now.
Final Verdict
Is It Worth It? Final Verdict
This course is a good overview and introduction to how the business world functions, mainly digital marketing and eCommerce, of course.
I still have to mention an issue I have with this course and I didn’t mention earlier. There are no refunds available here after your purchase, and not only does that mean you have to be extremely careful, it’s also an important red flag whenever we’re talking about these courses.
I’ve spent enough time going through courses and reviewing them in-depth to know that most people who avoid refund policies and any type of guarantee almost always are hiding something; it’s usually a bad program, but it can also be a lack of confidence about how much value they’re really offering, and it definitely seems to be like that’s the reason here.
On the bright side, you do get lifetime access to this course, and Iyia has been quite constant when it comes to updating it. I mentioned the marketing needs updates, but she’s probably about to release one (if she hasn’t already since I last checked).
The main problem here is the relationship between the course’s asking price and the actual value it’s offering here. For $300, you’re getting the same amount of content you can find on YouTube and cheaper courses. That’s especially troublesome when you consider how much money Iyia makes.
There’s also a lot of content missing, like the steps to set up your marketing campaigns, and further optimization. Besides, you also can’t expect to fill your store with good products if you don’t learn the proper way to research products and suppliers.
Overall, Iyia is definitely successful as an entrepreneur, but she fails to translate that knowledge into this course.
That’s why I can’t recommend this course, especially considering other courses like eCom Elites, which costs $197 ($297 for the premium package), and it still offers over 200 videos on all the topics covered here with a lot more depth and dozens more strategies.
I hope you found this review useful and if you have any questions, please comment down below. I’ll be more than happy to assist you.
Once again, thanks for reading my Iyia Liu’s Course Review and I wish you the best of luck.
