scholars have yet to come to a conclusion on the purpose of this tool. it greatly resembles the tools we use for farming, but the handle is much too short relative to the size of the prongs for it to be practical. if it was used that way, it has interesting implications about the proportions of the giants - their hands must have been very small!

how do you choose color schemes for your art cos they're always so good, also i looove your horror magical girls <3
<3 receiving this ask made me SO excited i love talking about processes and techniques. anon i hope you enjoy the essay
note: for anyone wondering how i get the different color strokes in my art, that's color jitter! I can answer a different question on that, but it's just a brush setting that changes the color for each stroke. This answers how I choose the base colors :)
GENERAL RULES
I think the first thing to know about my process is that I'm weirdly strict with the colors I use? I see people who color pick and wiggle the color around a bit each time and it's really cool! But my brain doesn't like me doing that, so it makes most of my color palettes a pretty closed ecosystem.
As a overview, I have 3-4 "types" of colors with their own color gradients. Be aware of tone! Don't make the types of colors the same tone. Additional colors are made from combining the types. I use 25-75% opacity for new colors instead of blending them.
This is a good example of the closed ecosystem concept:
Tumblr media
My 3 types of color are brown, green, and pink. The circles of colors are the ones I manually picked from the color wheel. The rectangular blocks of color are the new, in-between colors.
Tumblr media
Something to note is that my new colors aren't 25% opacity, then 50% opacity, then 75% opacity. I draw a rectangular strip of the base color and draw over it with a 25% opacity brush. Then, I draw over half of that again with the 25% opacity brush. I keep doing this until I'm satisfied with my colors.
This character is a dryad and I wanted to add more interest to the bark skin, so I used the pink for some highlights. The brown and pink are both warm colors and it made the most sense to use them together. This is how it looks without the pink accent:
Tumblr media
It ties the brown and pink together pretty nicely, right? I usually do this because I don't really like having two types of colors that are very similar in hue. If I have a pink-red color, then all pink-reds in the piece should be a color from its gradient (or a new color made from it). This makes sure all colors in the piece have a distinct relationship to each other.
Tumblr media
(If I'm drawing something that's predominantly one or two hues, the threshold for merging colors is higher)
If that's not the case, then I prefer to manually include a gradient relationship. This particular instance was a little weird, where the brown seems more red than it is. It's actually an orange, but because I never used a medium or light toned variant of the color it just seems red. Changing its hue to pink would be pretty noticeable, so I chose to use the gradient method here.
Tumblr media
Here's some other examples with the types explicitly added
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and some with just the swatches
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a rule of thumb, there are usually at least 3 types of colors: skin, hair, and clothing base colors. Skin and hair are generally unique, but not always.
CHOOSING GRADIENT/SHADING COLORS
This might change in the future (i want to experiment), but most of the time* when choosing my shading colors I move counterclockwise from lightest to darkest.
Tumblr media
I originally started doing this because I use the same color for skin shading as the blush, which was tinted red. In general, this works pretty well because when moving counterclockwise from yellow the average tone of the color decreases. Purple has the darkest tone, so red/blue/purple are often my darkest colors.
*There are exceptions to this, particularly when I'm using green or blue-green. If that's the case, then I do the same thing but clockwise. Purple is still my darkest value.
Tumblr media
It's a personal preference, but I very rarely use a yellow as the light color in a shading gradient moving towards green. You'll usually see me use yellow and then move towards orange/red OR use a yellowish green and move towards blue/purple. I'm not the biggest fan of yellow-green and use it extremely sparingly. Consequentially, this does pretty distinctly separate my warm and cool colors. It's not intentional lol
HUE RELATIONSHIPS
To be honest, I usually have two types of color schemes: Boldly different colors or similar colors with a bold accent.
If anyone has seem my art then they know i LOVE a good contrasting color scheme. I know there's actual contrasting colors-- yellow-purple, orange-blue, red-green-- but in this context I'll be using "contrasting color" to refer to the actual contrasting color and it's immediate neighbors. For example, red and blue would be contrasting in this context. Red and purple would not.
The reason I want to make this definition is because I think that you can get the same visual impact of actual contrasting colors as long as a color is the opposite mood (warm/cool) AND not next to the base color. Using the same example, red would be a warm color with green as its actual contrasting color. Yellow is also warm, so we can't use that despite it being green's neighbor. Blue works. Purple is red's neighbor, so we can't use that despite it being a cool color.
Here's some examples of color schemes with really prominent contrasting colors:
For purple/orange
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For red/blue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For pink/green
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the other type of color scheme, it's 2 or 3 neighboring colors and a contrasting color (which is usually very saturated)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In some cases, the "contrasting color" is just a very light grey/white
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In both cases, you just need a color that pops from the rest! Because my color palette is so limited, this accent color ends up being used for jewelry, trimmings, embroidery, etc. It helps tie everything together.
FINAL NOTES
I can (and will!) break the rules established here. I experiment, I make the objectively bad decision, I want to try other things. That's art. If you find something here that's interesting, try it out! Make it your own! (maybe tag or dm me, id love to see it)
If anyone has any questions, please let me know! I love answering these and it's really cool knowing someone might take inspiration from this :)

⸻⸻ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒌 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑟 ;
create the mask your character will wear to the banquet. choose the material, then answer the corresponding question. you must choose for all categories.
base. 𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐂 — what intention, drive or secret underlies the way your character presents themselves to the public?
yuri feels she is a thousand faces held together by what she can only fathom as good intentions. as an army general, she leads by example, embodying strength, discipline, and control. to the ruthless general, nothing is what it seems, and it is in accepting it that sets one apart. she believes that strength can be terrible, that there is freedom in discipline, and that there is beauty in control. although her methods to demonstrate them are not entirely amicable, some even think them retribution than a lesson, she stands by it without any doubt.
as a princess, the harshness becomes all but hearsay, possessing a bewitching face worth going to war for. every look, every smile, and every gentle word is for family. while she capitalizes on might as a warrior, yuri plays to her femininity in court. she understands that power takes many forms, that not every war is fought with weapons on the battlefield, and that one misunderstood gesture can topple down what has been built and strengthen for years.
eye holes. 𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐓 — if your character were to manipulate someone to their will, what methods would they employ?
yuri is very particular about how she convinces someone. she thinks human are complex, layers upon layers of nuances, honed by the multiple factors. as much as she can, she does not put herself in the middle of the deception. she peels the layers, the milieu, the context, and the very world the person lives in. she ties red strings around the wrist of those around them, paints over the canvasses that is their environment to the hues and shades she prefers, and takes control of the pace and the timeline as she sees fit. while the target believes they are still making their own decision, when the curtains are drawn, they'd come to realize that they are exactly where the princess wants them to be.
nose piece. 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍 — what is your character’s most used coping mechanism?
there are significant events in yuri's childhood adolescent years that have were subjected to repression. believed by most to be mature and wise, yuri held great control over her emotions growing up. not a tantrum, or complain was heard from the princess ever. she did what is expected of her without so much as the fire lord and the fire lady needing to give her knowing looks. there was no an instance when she needed to be taught a lesson, because the princess demonstrated wisdom way beyond her years, taking it upon herself to do only what is right. the princess has not committed any mistakes. but in the rare instances that she has, they were severe. her involvement always dealt with, the mess cleaned up. to this very day, not a soul alive, not even the princess, admits knows of any problem she had caused. there is no secret to be uncovered if the slip-ups simply did not exist.
mouth opening. 𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐔𝐌 𝐓𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐆𝐄 — describe your character’s typical manner of speech — their accent, pace, cadence, loudness, etc.
yuri speaks in the language of the fire nation with a hari bulkan accent. her tone is often assertive, some say imposing and all-knowing, especially when she delivers her words in her calm, low-pitch voice. in court and amongst the ranks, she speaks formally, straight-to-the-point and impersonal. her tone low and dominating, not a stutter or filler whenever she speaks. with people she is comfortable with, she has the tendency to speak more casually, tone more amiable. it's rare for the princess to raise her voice, not even when she is delivery a good scolding, or when arguing her case.
embellishments. 𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐑𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐒 — which items of jewelry is your character fond of? | 𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 — does your character have a signature piece or accessory that they frequently wear? if so, what significance does this piece have? if not, why so?
yuri is fond of wearing floral hair ornaments. she can be seen sporting them when she's not in uniform, in gatherings, and special ocassions. she has them in varying styles, kinds, and colors. they are intricately made by hand based on the princess' instruction, inspired by the fire nation's flora, especially rare ones not typically seen in the cities. she wears two notable pieces, one with gold five-petaled flowers adorned with pearls and entwined with green flowerlets, and lilac-dyed glass shards blooms and leaf-shaped beads perched on vines. the two hair ornaments were inspired by the first flowers she read on books and sought all by herself to see in person.
fastenings. 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐃 — what is your character’s worst fear, insecurity or vulnerability?
yuri fears, more than anything else, for her dragon to be hurt as it attempts to save her from danger. though she's not sure to what extent black fire understands, yuri likes to believe that he does, and that he will be obedient and listen to her to the very end. the experience they shared during the trip to the spirit world made her uneasy, not knowing what can happen and how it will affect her dragon. should the time come when yuri feels she's no longer able to protect anyone, including black fire, she wishes for him to save himself and fly far away to leave her instead.

Hello, and welcome to a post with a poll on the Princess’s Wimbledon style and a look at designs she has worn in purple. After seeing the Princess in a purple dress at Wimbledon, many of us tried to recall other instances where she has worn that color. I thought it would be an excellent exercise to see just how frequently or rarely the Princess has chosen purple designs. It turns out she has not selected this color as often as I thought she had. We begin with the Issa dress worn in Canada in July 2011.  The occasion was a concert on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill to celebrate Canada Day. The Duchess of Cambridge’s dress featured a deep vee-neck, horizontal and vertical gathers at the front, a fitted waist, long sleeves, and a concealed back zipper. She accessorized with her bespoke Anya Hindmarch ‘Maud’ clutch (£485) in black silk and her black Prada pumps. The Duchess wore deco-style diamond earrings and a matching bracelet believed to be a wedding gift from then-Prince Charles. She also wore the late Queen’s diamond Maple Leaf brooch. In April 2016, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a purple half-Kira when receiving a ceremonial welcome in Bhutan. A woman’s Kira (also spelled Kera) is an ankle-length dress that is a traditional Bhutanese look. The Duchess and Queen Jetsun Pema. Her wool cape was by Paul and Joe. The Duchess did not wear a full Kira or dress but a skirt. The purple and teal fabric for the piece was sourced and woven in Bhutan by noted artisan Kelzang Wangmo. She wore LK Bennett’s ‘Floret’ heels ($375) with Lavender Amethyst & Diamond Earrings (£4900) by Kiki McDonough.   In February 2017, the Duchess debuted a suit by Oscar de la Renta when attending a health writer’s conference with Prince William. The skirt suit was from the label’s Fall 2015 collection. Made in stretch wool boucle, the tailored jacket had a fitted bodice with a pleated, flared hem. The full skirt was constructed of the same material; it featured box pleats and a hidden back zipper. The Duchess accessorized with her Mulberry Bayswater Wallet Clutch, Gianvito 105 Black Suede Pumps ($795), and her Mappin & Webb Empress earrings. The Duchess repeated the look in January 2019 for an engagement at the Royal Opera House. On that occasion, she wore black patent Rupert Sanderson pumps, carried her black Aspinal Midi Mayfair bag ($865), and had on her Asprey Woodland Oak Leaf earrings ($12500). The Duchess wore the suit for the third time when formally opening the EACH (East Anglia’s Childen’s Hospices) Nook Hospice. The Duchess wore her Gianvito Rossi Piper Suede Pumps ($795) and Catherine Zoraida ‘Fern hoop’ earrings ($181). She also carried a clutch from the Aspinal/Beulah London handbag collaboration; a portion of the profits were donated to the UN’s Blue Heart Campaign Against Human Trafficking. Below, a look at the three different engagements. Initially, I wasn’t planning to include this in the post because the color looks more magenta than purple, but in certain light (particularly the January 2019 engagement), the color seemed close enough for inclusion. The brand’s name for the color was “ultraviolet.” In March 2019, the Duchess wore a Gucci blouse in a color called ‘pale violet orchid.’  The engagement was at a children’s center. The  Gucci Silk Crepe Pussy Bow Blouse blouse was 100% silk satin georgette. It featured a loose silhouette, covered buttons on the back, a high collar with bow, and a straight hem. The Duchess wore her blouse with the buttons to the front (“backward” per product descriptions). We saw another shade of purple in September 2021 when the Duke and Duchess were in Northern Ireland. The separates were by Emilia Wickstead. The double-breasted Dida Jacket and slim-cut Gus Trousers were created in a custom color for the Duchess. The Duchess repeated the styles in November of last year for an early childhood symposium. In 2021, the Duchess wore her Emmy London Josie Block Heel Pumps ($595) in navy and carried a navy Jaeger handbag. In 2023, she wore her navy suede Gianvito 105 pumps ($795) in navy suede.  The Princess wore a close-to-purple design, believed to be by Emilia Wickstead, during welcoming ceremonies for the South Africa State Visit in November 2022. The midi-length design featured a fitted bodice, peaked lapels, an applied waistband, and a pleated skirt. The Princess wore Queen Alexandra’s Three Feathers Brooch for the first time and the Collingwood Pearl Drop earrings. Her hat appeared to be a Sean Barrett design. Her other accessories were all in the burgundy family: her Gianvito 105 Pumps in Bordeaux suede, Mulberry Bayswater clutch, and UFO gloves. The Princess has worn lilac and lavender designs, including the Alexander McQueen gown worn in Los Angeles in 2011 and again in 2021 at the Earthshot Awards. There is also the Emilia Wickstead dress worn in Germany in 2017. and then again for a 2018 mental health summit. But they are not purple. This brings us to the Princess’s Wimbledon appearance in a purple Safiyaa dress.  The Safiyaa Cecilia Dress name for this dress color is “lilac.” The A-line midi dress has structured sleeves, an applied waistband, and gathers across the bodice. As you can see, purple has not played a significant role in the Princess’s wardrobe.  UPDATE 7:30 PM JULY 26: Here are three additional dresses I did not include in the post because I did not think they fit the “purple” description. In a comment, Cam asked about the LK Bennett Dee Crepe Shift Dress worn to an Early Years function in June 2021. In the center, the LK Bennett Madison seen in June 2022 for engagements in Cambridgeshire. On the right, the Marie-Louise Midi Dress by Faithfull the Brand worn when the Duchess helped plant the garden at The Nook Hospice. It is great to have your input in the comments and via email because you never know what I’ll forget and leave out! The designs shown above weren’t included because they were not strong purple pieces, much like the Alexander McQueen gown and Emilia Wickstead dress shown just above the Wimbledon Safiyaa dress.  One dress I should have included that is definitely in the purple family: the Prabal Gurung worn in Singapore on the first leg of the 2012 Jubilee Tour. Thank you to Janet on Facebook for her comment mentioning this one. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ And now for our poll on the Princess’s Wimbledon outfits. Because we’re looking at a total of 25 ensembles, I have divided the poll into three sections. The first is on repeated styles, and the second and third are on new designs. Next week, we’ll take the top two from each category and do one final vote.  We’ll begin with Wimbledon ensembles that were repeated looks. From left to right, you see the Alexander McQueen sailor-style knit dress, the Joseph Vanessa Dress and Nessie Tweed Jacket, the cream Zimmermann Roamer Day Dress, the Jonathan Saunders Evelyn Dress, the yellow and white custom version of Roksanda Ilincic’s Ryedale Dress, the green Dolce and Gabbana dress, the polka dot Alessandra Rich skirt paired with the oft-worn One-Button Blazer by Smythe, the azure blue Alessandra Rich Pleated Embellished Silk Crepe de Chine dress (initially worn in early June), and the yellow Roksanda Ilincic customized Brigitte Dress. Here is the poll. And now for our first batch of new looks worn to Wimbledon. From left to right, the white Temperley London Moraiah Dress, the red LK Bennett Cayla dress, the Alexander McQueen Obsessions Print dress, the Dolce & Gabbana black and white polka dot dress, Catherine Walker’s Wildflowers Print dress, the Jenny Packham ivory Tennis Ball dress, the yellow Dolce and Gabbana dress, and Suzannah London’s white Flippy Wiggle Dress.  And now, the poll. And now, our final group of dresses. On the left, the Emilia Wickstead light blue dress, the green Emilia Wickstead Denver Dress, Beulah London’s Ahana Dress in blush, Alessandra Rich navy and white polka dot dress, Balmain’s minty green Two-Tone Crepe Blazer and UFO pleated skirt, the Self-Portrait Boucle Collared Chiffon Midi Dress in lime, Roland Mouret’s green Ruffle-Detail Asymmetrical Midi Dress, and the Safiyaa lilac Cecilia Dress.   And here is the poll.   (function(d, s, id) var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.0"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); (document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Source link

The Art of Gifting: Luxurious Scarves for Christmas and Beyond
When it comes to gift-giving, there’s a fine balance between thoughtfulness and extravagance, especially during the holiday season. A luxurious scarf is one of those rare gifts that embodies both, making it a timeless present that speaks volumes without saying a word. Whether for Christmas, birthdays, or other special occasions, a beautifully crafted scarf has the power to make the recipient feel cherished, stylish, and pampered.
Let’s explore why scarves make the perfect gift for any occasion and how to choose the right one for your loved ones.
A Gift That’s Both Useful and Beautiful
Finding the right gift can sometimes feel like looking for a needle in a haystack, but a premium scarf is one of those rare gems that ticks all the boxes. It’s thoughtful, versatile, and something that’ll actually get used, not just admired from afar.
Picture this: your best friend wrapping herself in a warm cashmere scarf as snow falls softly on Christmas morning. Or your sibling tossing on a bright silk scarf that turns their usual work outfit into something a little more put-together.
A scarf is a kind of gift that’s practical without being boring, and beautiful without being over-the-top; a win-win for any occasion!
A Gift That Fits Everyone’s Style
One of the best things about scarves is how well they work for just about anyone. They suit every age, style, and personality, making them a safe yet thoughtful choice for everyone on your list.
Is your wife a no-fuss kind of woman who sticks to the classics? A luxurious wool scarf in neutral shades would be right up her alley.
Got a friend who loves making bold fashion statements? A vibrant, printed silk scarf could be the perfect pick.
Scarves say, “I get your style,” which makes the gift feel personal and special.
Help Them Find Their Signature Look
Some of the most stylish people in history are known for their go-to accessories. Grace Kelly turned silk scarves into a style statement, and Steve Jobs made black turtlenecks iconic. Accessories like these become more than just something you wear, they become part of who you are.
By gifting a luxurious scarf, you’re giving someone the chance to build their own signature look. It could be a vibrant wrap they’re known for at holiday parties or a cozy piece they always reach for when the temperature dips. A scarf isn’t just a gift; it’s a chance to leave a mark.
The Beauty of Craftsmanship
Premium scarves, especially those from brands like Maneesha Ruia, aren’t just accessories, they’re wearable works of art. From handwoven cashmere to intricate silk designs, every piece carries a story of skill and dedication. Gifting one of these masterpieces is like saying, “You deserve something truly special.”
It’s not just a scarf; it’s a keepsake, a token of care and thoughtfulness that will be cherished for years to come. In a world where so much is mass-produced, a hand-crafted luxury scarf is a gift that truly stands out.
A Gift for Any Season or Moment
What makes scarves such a wonderful gift is their ability to adapt to any season or occasion. On chilly winter evenings, a soft cashmere scarf feels like a warm hug. As the weather warms, a lightweight silk scarf can be tied around a handbag or styled as a headscarf for a fresh, polished look.
Gifting a scarf isn’t just about that moment, it’s about giving them something that they will appreciate and use all year long, well after the holiday season is over.
Add a Personal Touch
To make your gift truly unforgettable, put some thought into tailoring it to the recipient.
Choose a scarf in their favorite color or go for a material that reflects their personality. For instance, an embroidered scarf can be perfect for someone who appreciates intricate details, while a luxurious cashmere piece is ideal for someone who values comfort and warmth.
Adding that personal touch shows just how well you know them and turns the gift into something uniquely theirs.
A Gift That Keeps on Giving
A luxurious scarf is a gesture of thoughtfulness, warmth, and style that lasts well beyond the festive season. It’s a gift that can adapt to any wardrobe, create lasting memories, and even become a signature piece for the person receiving it.
Whether it’s a soft cashmere wrap for cozy winter nights or an elegant silk scarf for a pop of color, there’s no better way to show someone how much they mean to you. This holiday season and beyond, give your loved ones the gift of warmth and let a luxury scarf speak for itself.

Handmade rug craftsmanship-a time-defying testament to the element of skill and artistry
Handmade rug craftsmanship basically represents an art that was passed from generations over hundreds of years where artistry formed part of a time-immerging process. It is in the intricately woven artifacts made with loving hands by varied cultures and regions over centuries that this era of patience and perseverance manifests as today's artisanal units. Today, the handmade rug is no longer only beautiful but also a product of careful workmanship put into the making of it. Indeed, every rug stands as a story of the craftsperson and his or her effort, artistry, and perseverance. Not only pieces that serve function, they are unique art pieces that bring in character and warmth into every space.
Handmade Rugs: Art
Hand-Knotting: This is the most time-consuming and complex technique in making a handmade rug. Individual knots are tied by artisans to a foundation of warp and weft threads to create a rug design and texture row after row. Determining the quality and the intricacy of the rug is through the KPSI, or the number of knots per square inch-the greater the KPSI, the more intricate and thus more durable it would be. The pure material from which hand-knotted rugs are made ensures that they shall be resistant as well as luxurious at the same time.
Hand-Tufting: In this process, weavers use a special tool to push yarn through a pre-designed backing fabric. This technique is a bit faster and cheaper compared to hand-knotting but gives an elegantly designed rug with intricate patterns. Hand-tufted rugs can be assorted in different textures. They could be plush or looped textures according to the aesthetic and feel one wants.
Flat-Weaving: With this type of weaving a rug is made directly on the loom there are no knots. Although there are less flatwoven rugs than some others, for instance Dhurries and Kilims, such rugs by definition are so light in weight that one can turn them over and they are reversible. With often geometric design work they are very sturdy and easy to maintain.
The Artisan
The art of handmade rug making will always remain in the craftsman's hands, whose abilities and imagination place life into every single rug. The craft is rarely acquired by tender, young years; and even if it is learnt from parents or grand-parents through whom continuation takes place from generation to generation. Not that it's any pattern or something, but I guess one really has to be a designer with proper knowledge of colour theory and materials, which brings due respect.
The rug designation starts with the cultural motifs, nature, or personal experience of the artist. Some rugs will be heirloom, while others will be fully new designs. All this ascertained, the weaver then starts a long process in order to create the rug entirely by hand using ancient tools and unchanged techniques from centuries.
The artisans are equally observant when picking the material. The natural fibers usually selected for these kinds are wool, silk, or cotton. Wool is commonly used for rug making since it endures. Wool also feels soft to the touch and naturally resists stains. Silk gives a gorgeous shine and a very delicate feel to a rug that's actually part of the designs in higher-end ranges.
Creating a Masterpiece: The Process
These are the steps to making a handmade rug. Of course, each of them may be related in terms of design and requires great finesse for execution:
Designing: Before the work is done, a design of handmade rugs is thought about. Some rugs have some traditional designs while others have a rather modern or abstract design. Many artisans draw their design on paper or make use of a chart as a guide.
Dyeing: Hand-spun yarn to be used for the handmade rug gets dyed in this stage. The usage may either be of natural dyes or synthetic dyes. The former ones yield earthy shades as they originate from plants and minerals, while synthetic dyes always result in brighter colors. Dyeing is one of those integral steps that ensure the colors of the rug hold out for centuries.
Weaving: This is the last process of preparation. Here, the actual weaving is done, whereas in hand-knotted rugs, each knot is tied by the artisans, which is a process of extreme labor and at the same time depends upon a great concentration of mind. Hand tufted and flat-woven rugs are quicker to make, yet it needs much expertise to ensure such a design will be carried out perfectly.
Hand washing and finishing: Once the weft is done, the rug will undergo hand-washing to wash off all the residues that were left on the rug or excess dye that may have stayed on the rug as well and softening the fibers of the rug. Some rugs are then sheared, which provides an even look and pile height, but others are left just the way it was, with its original surface texture. Then, there are loose ends that are trimmed before being inspected for flaws.
The Worth of Handmade Rugs
In addition to their aesthetic value, handmade rugs have worth as a product of the skill put into them. Every hand-knotted or handwoven rug is unique as a piece of art and manifests the craftsmanship, culture, and artistic brainstorming of its weaver. Being unique in nature, handmade rugs differ from mass-produced machine-made rugs, and so they are produced with care and attention. This factor ensures that hand-luxury rugs are exquisite and tough because handcrafted ones can stay with a homeowner for decades or even longer-a century.
And then there are handmade carpets, which are organic. The natural fibers and dyes put into them bring one with much less of an ecological footprint than the synthetic mass-produced carpets. More over, every sold piece of handmade carpet goes directly to small communities of artisans who keep alive precious art forms and maintain economy at local levels.
Conclusion
The handmade rug craft is an art that dates centuries back, combining skill, art, and culture. In this regard, from the very first step of delicate material selection through a long, intricate process of hand knotting or hand weaving, each rug echoes the expertise and ingenuity of the artisan. Buying a handmade rug is an investment into beautiful home decoration-but it's also one aspect of investing in history and the continuation of a centuries-old craft.

Unveiling the Spectrum: Can Lab-Grown Diamonds Have Color?
In the world of diamonds, color holds a captivating allure. It's not just about clarity and carat; the presence or absence of color can significantly impact a diamond's value and aesthetic appeal. Traditionally, the color of a diamond has been attributed to natural processes occurring deep within the Earth over millions of years. However, with advancements in technology, the emergence of lab-grown diamonds has revolutionized the jewelry industry and sparked a pertinent question: Can lab-grown diamonds have color?
To delve into this inquiry, we must first understand the fundamental processes that govern the coloration of diamonds, both natural and lab-grown.
Natural Diamonds: A Tale of Geological Evolution
Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth's mantle, subjected to intense heat and pressure over millions of years. During their formation, various elements and impurities can become trapped within the diamond lattice structure, influencing its color. For instance, nitrogen impurities often impart a yellow or brown hue, while boron can result in rare blue diamonds. The presence of other elements such as hydrogen, nitrogen, or even structural defects can contribute to a spectrum of colors, including pink, green, and red, among others.
Lab-Grown Diamonds: Science Meets Artistry
In contrast, lab-grown diamonds are cultivated through advanced technological processes that mimic the conditions found beneath the Earth's surface. While natural diamonds rely on geological occurrences, lab-grown diamonds are created using two primary methods: High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
In the HPHT method, a small diamond seed is subjected to high pressure and temperature, allowing carbon atoms to crystallize around it, forming a larger diamond. During this process, the addition of specific trace elements or color centers can replicate the natural coloration seen in mined diamonds.
Similarly, in the CVD method, a diamond seed is placed in a chamber filled with a carbon-rich gas, such as methane. Through a series of controlled chemical reactions, carbon atoms are deposited onto the seed, gradually building up layers and forming a diamond. Again, the introduction of certain elements or defects during this process can imbue the diamond with desired colors.
Exploring the Palette: Colors of Lab-Grown Diamonds
The versatility of lab-grown diamonds extends to their coloration, offering a spectrum of hues that rival their natural counterparts. Manufacturers can precisely control the presence and distribution of impurities or color centers, resulting in diamonds of exceptional clarity and vibrant color.
Lab-grown diamonds can exhibit a range of colors, including traditional white or colorless diamonds, as well as fancy colored diamonds in shades of yellow, blue, pink, green, and beyond. Through meticulous engineering and scientific innovation, jewelers can create stunning pieces featuring lab-grown diamonds with hues that cater to individual preferences and design aesthetics.
Ethical and Environmental Considerations
Beyond their aesthetic appeal, lab-grown diamonds offer a compelling proposition in terms of ethics and sustainability. Unlike mined diamonds, which often raise concerns regarding environmental impact and ethical sourcing, lab-grown diamonds are cultivated in controlled laboratory settings, minimizing the ecological footprint and eliminating the potential for human rights abuses associated with traditional mining practices.
Moreover, the transparency and traceability of lab-grown diamonds provide consumers with peace of mind, knowing the origin and journey of their precious gemstones. As awareness of ethical and environmental issues continues to grow, the demand for lab-grown diamonds as an ethical and sustainable alternative to mined diamonds is on the rise.
Conclusion: A Kaleidoscope of Possibilities
In conclusion, the question of whether lab-grown diamonds can have color is unequivocally answered: yes, they can, and with remarkable precision and variety. Through cutting-edge technology and scientific ingenuity, lab-grown diamonds offer a canvas for creativity, allowing artisans to craft exquisite jewelry pieces that rival the beauty and brilliance of natural diamonds.
As the jewelry industry embraces sustainability and innovation, lab-grown diamonds stand at the forefront of a revolution, offering consumers a guilt-free indulgence in luxury while preserving the planet for future generations. Whether it's a classic white diamond or a radiant fancy colored gem, the allure of lab-grown diamonds knows no bounds, promising a kaleidoscope of possibilities for jewelry enthusiasts worldwide.

Every Couple or Ring Fan Should Check Out These Amazing 4 Wedding Band Inlays
Traditionally, the beauty of a ring or wedding band has been determined entirely by the style of the ring and the metal from which it’s forged. Of course, the design of a ring and the beauty of its constituents are still essential to its charm and style. However, the emergence of a whole new definition of what rings could be, from ceramic and silicone rings to the mens black wedding band, changed that. Part of this fascinating alternative generation of wedding bands and rings is a trend toward much of a ring’s beauty being derived from amazing inlays.
Tumblr media
Precious Metal and Stone Inlays As unique and exciting as modern wedding bands and rings made from tungsten, cobalt, titanium, and other more exotic materials are, there will always be a place for precious metals and dazzling stones. Incorporating those elements as an inlay pays tribute to those timeless materials and makes for beautiful rings. Look for options like a white cobalt ring with classic 14K yellow gold inlay. A more striking example would be a black titanium ring set with black sapphires. Exotic Wood Inlays Womens and mens tungsten rings are popular for their scratch resistance, tungsten being one of the hardest metals in existence, and their versatile attractiveness. Ranging in color from the deepest black to white as brilliant as platinum makes them an ideal option for an exotic wood inlay. Look for tungsten, ceramic, and gold rings inlaid with black walnut, mahogany, rare Koa wood, wood from whiskey barrels, and many more options. Opal, Turquoise, and Other Colorful Inlays For truly eye-catching brilliance, it’s hard to beat the kaleidoscopic vibrancy of opal, turquoise, or abalone shell inlays. The opal inlays vary in shade from a stunning emerald and sapphire blue-green to a fiery red. Both abalone shell and mother of pearl glow with a prismatic, opalescent sheen you’re sure to love. Browse some of these radiant, iridescent rings for yourself. Meteorite Inlays Then there are rings with inlays that are as extraordinary as they are attractive. For instance, while tungsten rings are impressive and sure to be a conversation piece, what if you found one that featured something from elsewhere in the universe? That’s what you get with a tungsten carbide ring featuring an inlay of the famous Muonionalusta meteorite. Being able to wear a ring inlaid with a truly alien metal is an exceptional opportunity. Like similarly astonishing rings featuring fossilized dinosaur bone inlay, this band is an ideal choice for the science or science fiction buff. In your dreams, there was only water.
It surrounded you in a sense of peace: everlasting yet frighteningly silent. It was the same scenario, a quiet quarry, water unmoving, no ripples could best the surface - no matter what you did.
The woods were a swaying tranquil joy, swaying and thriving, they moved as one and as individuals; one then two then all.
You found yourself by the river, as usual, staring at the waters in every dream. How did it change or anything at all? The water remained still, no matter how many pebbles you threw, it remained motionless, drained of life.
In your first set of dreams, it had been just yourself, until small changes began to cloud your judgement, your perception beginning to warp.
You would hear the sounds of whispers: the trees whispering to one another in chorus, growing ever so louder the more you listened out for them. The quarry grew from a bright, vibrant hue to share shades so gloomy and clear of life. It was a gradual change, none that you didn't realise until the more times you visited.
Finally, when it seemed nothing else had changed, they appeared.
It was something so small, you had not noticed them at first, until you spotted them in between the trees, hiding between shrubbery and brambles.
In the following dreams did they draw in closer, appearance was hard to distinguish what they were, but from what you gathered, they seemed to of been taking a more humanoid form for you.
Only recently, did they seem a bit more approachable to you, appearing to be floating across the waters without moving the surface, bare feet barely touching their form.
"Rain."
"Sorry?"
"Rain," they repeated, their voice a strangled, garbled mess with words jumbled together. "It rarely rains here."
You stared at them, yet found no void of a humanoid face. Their face was guarded by their long, flown black tresses, blowing in the windless air on their own, never seeming to pass to present themselves. Their willowy figure remained floating just above the water's surface, long legs and arms dangling languidly.
"I see," You found yourself speaking, yet I was unsure what to say to them. "How long have you been here for? These are my dreams after all."
"Yes, you have been here quite some time." They said and it only grew confusion to flood your mind.
"But I wake every morning when this is over. Am I wrong?"
The creature did not answer, instead, they hovered away from you, ignoring your calls to come back, until no trace of them existed.
You decided to call them Rain from then on.
Rain came and went in a whisk of nothingness: appearing as they went with little regard for holding conversations. They seemed an enigma, holding more knowledge of the world than you could have predicted. In some instances, they drew you to people you knew in life, people you had long forgotten of.
When they appeared again, did you have the courage to ask.
"It feels as if I know you."
"You do, to some extent." They whispered. "I am your friend, your lover from the past, a lover from the future. I am those you could love and cherish and those you could despise. I can be anything you wish of me."
You watched as if his face had turned into a picture book, flickering through many faces, morphing in sizes and shapes, different eye colours and skin tones. It was as if they were holding your memories in front of you, using them to their advantage. "It is a lonely one, so many faces, yet I do not recognise my own."
"Would you show it to me?"
Rain paused, outweighing your words, as they drifted closer to you. To your surprise, they took a hold of your hand, gently running their lithe fingers over your knuckles. "I'm afraid the true face I show may is not one many mortals can stomach."
"Please."
You gingerly took their face into yours, cradling their shadowed face. Even from up close, their face was guarded by their dark hair, and only up close did you see their watchful gaze, small yet curious eyes the colour of coppers.
Rain accepted your touches, cradling you with ease into their chest like a babe as you stared up at them from the comfort of their long arms. Through the embrace, Rain finally answered mournfully, "Very well."
The hair unravelled from their face, and through the embrace of their arms, you sighed in bliss and relief, recognising the face you had thought you had longed to forget.

You are haunted.
Those words simply sound so strange to utter. Ghosts, ghouls, demons, and poltergeists were fables and myths meant to strike fear into the godless. But here you are. A living testament to those false "tales".
Ghastly shades and haunting phantasms have stalked your movements since you were 11. They fed on your life force and manipulated your fate with their bony fingers. You rarely felt a moment of rest until their presence all but vanished one day. The dark ages.. or what you so affectionately refer to it as. From age 13 to 14 your life was just one large blank spot. You couldn't remember what you did, or the events of that year. On your 14th birthday, it was like waking up from a long nap. It was just another day for you. But to your family; that day meant everything to them. You were unfazed and blase at the concerned and crying faces of your family. Nor could you understand what exactly happened to you that year. No one talked about it, and they weren't willing to tell you what happened.. all you knew was that the spirits no longer plagued you. And for that you were happy.
Your life has slowed down significantly in terms of ghostly encounters. Your past demons have been subjected, and you may finally be able to move on with your life. However, you can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong… Oh, so very bad.
Your once peaceful dreams have become recurring nightmares.  You dream of desecrated churches, burning red skies, and overflowing rivers teeming with dead fish. Shadowy figures with malicious intent and distorted cackles grip your soul. It’s just dreams; is what you tell yourself. But the choir of voices that hum melodically in your ears when you wake is too daunting to dismiss. Your spirits are back, and they refuse to be ignored.
The daily horror you experience and the constant stress of your life is beginning to take a toll on your psyche, and it is all too much. Your best friend Tama Shirosaki recommends an experimental VR game called ”A Trial of Horror” to destress, but something about the company and its website rubs you the wrong way. You don't understand how Tama would think this is a good idea, but an incentive of $10,000 to play is too good to pass up, especially when you have loans and bills.
The VR feels too real, every scratch and scrap, you gain burns with pain, and your lungs feel like they are on fire as you run. This game you are in may not just be a game; every mistake you make has real consequences. If you want to get out, it would be in your best interest to survive, but your survival does not mean the game is over. It is just the beginning...
Stuck within a vicious cycle, you struggle to find the truth behind these sinister plots and get yourself permanently unsubscribed from the company’s beta testing.
Perhaps you may finally get some rest after this is all over. If your ghosts will let you.

Some RO options may already know each other due to the games or for other reasons. These past relations can make romancing opposing RO’s difficult. There may be potential for more RO options, but I really want to play it by ear.
Alexander (M) / Alexandria (F) Adakai: Alex seems to be a pretty simple person from what you’ve seen. They know what they like and don’t like and have no problem letting you know it. However, you’ve realized that anyone chosen to play the games is far from simple. Passionate, warm, and supporting, you’ve found Alex loyal to a fault once you’ve earned their respect (or affection) and know that they would willingly follow you into hell, but is that necessarily a good thing? [Has a predetermined ‘relationship’ with Moore]
Meridith (F) / Micah (M) Moore: Moore is arrogant and confident, overly confident if you ask their friends, individual. They are an up-and-coming lawyer working in Napa Valley, California, at one of the most prestigious law firms in the country. With their put-together suits and overpriced cologne, you can almost smell the privilege rolling off them. For this reason, you cannot fathom how they got involved with the game. Is something hiding behind their well-placed façade, or are they really as arrogant as they seem? [Has a predetermined ‘relationship’ with Adakai]
Nasir (M) / Zahra (F) Faizan: An aloof and cranky player that seems hellbent on pretending that you don’t exist. They haven’t participated in the game for too long, but they already have a reputation. Considered an omen and not the good kind, it’s known that anyone who partners with them dies shortly after. Is their attitude towards you justified? Or do they just need a bowl of raisins to clear up that ever constipated expression?
Felix (M) / Jalissa (F) Alvarez: A computer programmer from New Mexico, the way you two met wasn’t exactly the best. To be exact, you almost get them killed, but they seem to still want to be your friend despite the blunder. Self-nominated as the cinnamon roll of the group, you can’t help but want to go to them for all of your emotional issues. You’ve found their optimism and gentile attitude to be precisely what you need in this game. However, behind their too-wide grins and hearty laughs, you can’t help but feel that something is wrong. Oh, so wrong.
Yue Tu (M): An entity that’s guile has only grown stronger with his age. He needs you, but for what, you’re not sure. Catching the attention of two eldritch horrors cannot be good, but you notice that he seems to regard you with a special kind of affection. However, you cannot help but wonder that his love for you will fade once his need for you is over. He is a wanderer, but once he finds himself committing to you. He will never let you go. Not even death will keep you two apart, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
As of now. here are some important NPCs that show up in your journey.
The Magdalene: An ancient and powerful entity with which you have crossed paths on multiple occasions. She’s too sly and coy to fully trust; however, she has no problem going after what she wants. And what she currently wants is your help, whether you wish to give it to her. Her purpose is not fully known to you; hell, you don’t even think she knows what she wants. What you do know, however, is that you’d instead not get into ancient business, but when she laughs, you can’t help but be drawn into her like a moth to a flame. She can either become your biggest ally or your biggest enemy depending upon your interactions with her. (Please don’t piss off the thing that could probably rewrite the world at the flick of her thumb). Has a predetermined relationship with Alvarez, Faizan, and Yue Tu.
Jin Yeong (SO): A player that has a predetermined relationship with Faizan, and Adakai. He seems to possess a strange ability and moves through the games as if he was wading through water. He is looking for someone, but he cannot quite remember who that person is. He comes off as easy-going. However, you can’t help but feel that everything he says has a double meaning. His trademark expression is a smirk; however, you catch that lost expression he tries to hide.
Michael Samson: Has a pre-determined relationship with Faizan. They know them best and often worry about them. For whatever reason, they seem to always glare at you whenever you’re around
Charlie “Ahiga” Adakai: Adakai’s 4-year-old nephew. He is a strange child, and you have caught him seemingly talking to no one on more than one occasion.
Erika Smith: A player in the games with a predetermined relationship with Moore. She seems to spend too much time scheming and not enough time actually thinking.
Carlos(Meech) Perez (SO): An dealer with a sorted past, Meech loves the flashing lights and rhythmic beats, something that is far and few between in your large city. Being a South Nevada Native, you wonder just what he’s doing in Wisconsin? The dreary state just doesn’t seem to be his vibe, and refusing to get involved with the game, you have no idea why he’s so interested in you. But from what you heard from Jin, he’s chasing after a client with a huge bill and having fun along the way.  Has a predetermined relationship with Moore and Jin Yeong. {Meeting Meech is contingent on having met Moore and expressing interest in them.}
Satinder (Sati) Singh (SO): A former player of ATOH, Sati has definitely moved up the food chain as she is now the North-Western regional manger for the Information Department for the gaming company Ego Tai. Sati is not what you expected from a former player. She is meek, and always apologetic; seeming to be afraid of her own shadow. Because of this, you don’t understand how she could have lasted as long as she did. Rumors are that she made a deal with something in order to get out of the game, but they’re just rumors... Right?
Khalid ibn-al Bakir(SO/RO): Alex's self-proclaimed best friend, he and Alex are joined at the hip; their dynamic reminds you a lot of your own relationship with Tama. As long as Alex thinks you're cool, then Khalid will find no problem with you. However, if you cross Alex, your may as well have crossed Khalid. Pre-determined relationship with Adakai, Jin Yeong, and Alvarez
Nola (Nora) Jenkins (SO): Daughter of Maribelle. After completing your first mission, you had begun to receive a bunch of strange emails and messages. All with subjects titled, ‘The Truth’. She’s a bit of a conspiracy theorist, and acts as if she knows something about the producers of the game. You’re sure it’s just a her being crazy, but after several incidents that she predicts come true, you start to believe that she might not be as crazy as you think.
Emiko/(Yuna) (SO): The older sister of Tama Shirosaki. You’ve never met her or the entirety of his family before, so when she arrives at your tiny apartment sobbing, you are thrown for a loop. You have no idea what she wants from you, but what you do know is that she’s pissed.

I discovered that my local library's ebook selection only had "First Lensman" out of the whole series, shrugged and checked it out anyway, and - well - long story short, my cosplayer's heart went all a-flutter over Jill's "violent shade of 'radio-active' green" dress from the Ambassadors' Ball.
I'm leaning kind of "Iris van Herpen but 1950s spacefuture" as I try to design something based on the description given (the nature of the bodice in particular made me think of her designs), but then I realized you'd probably know if there was an illustrated edition out there to use as further reference. So - is there? Or am I flying blind beyond the implicit influence of eveningwear styles in the year the book was published?
(Either way, I finally have an excuse to dip my toes into constructing an evening gown! Thank you for selling me on this series!)
I am delighted to hear I inspired you. My statement there was not entirely serious and I never expected anyone would do it. I'd like to see what you come up with. You should consider looking into the works of my personal favorite fashion designer, Charles James, active from the 40s-60s. One of the most striking things about his outfits are the simplicity. This, for instance, is all one piece of cloth, the emphasis is not on frills or ornamentation but streamlining, calling attention to the silhouette.
Tumblr media
There are a couple moments in the Lensman books you should probably take a look at, if you're interested in costume ideas for women that are evening gowns. The first is the Grand Ball for the Grand Fleet in Chapter 2 of Gray Lensman. I always liked that one because it was a rare glimpse of what everyday life in the Lensman Galaxy looked like. We spent too much time with Lensman and in the criminal underworld and with battle fleets.
Tumblr media
The city's largest ball-room was a blaze of light and color. A thousand polychromatic lamps flooded their radiance downward through draped bunting upon an even more colorful throng. Two thousand items of feminine loveliness were there, in raiment whose fabrics were the boasts of hundreds of planets, whose hues and shades put the spectrum itself to shame. There were over two thousand men, clad in plain or beribboned or bemedaled full civilian dress, or in the variously panoplied dress uniforms of the many Services.
"You're dancing with Miss Forrester first, Kinnison," the surgeon introduced them informally, and the Lensman found himself gliding away with a stunning blonde, ravishingly and revealingly dressed in a dazzlingly blue wisp of Manarkan glamorette--fashion's dernier cri.
To the uninformed, Kinnison's garb of plain gray leather might have seemed incongruous indeed in that brilliantly and fastidiously dressed assemblage. But to those people, as to us of today, the drab, starkly utilitarian uniform of the Unattached Lensman transcended far any other, however resplendent, worn by man: and literally hundreds of eyes followed the strikingly handsome couple as they slid rhythmically out upon the polished floor. But a measure of the tall beauty's customary poise had deserted her. She was slimly taut in the circle of the Lensman's arm, her eyes were downcast, and suddenly she missed a step.
I don't recommend dressing up as a Lyranian at all, unless you wish to be very very popular. Although there is one notable and terrible female villain, in a series for which that is a rarity: one of the Black Lensmen, the evil counterparts created to counter the Lensmen, is a psionically gifted female Lyranian.
Another outfit that probably suggests itself is in Second Stage Lensmen, when Clarissa becomes the Red Lensman, the first female Lensman in history. Clarissa MacDougal was prone to Midwestern modesty to the point it was hysterical:
Tumblr media
It was, and very shortly Sector Chief Nurse Clarrissa MacDougall appeared in her wonted immaculately-white, stiffly-starched uniform. She would not wear the Grays to which she was entitled; nor would she--except when defying Kinnison--claim as her right any one of the perquisites or privileges which were so indubitably hers. She was not, never had been, and never would or could be a real Lensman, she insisted. At best, she was only a synthetic--or an imitation--or a sort of amateur--or maybe a "Red" Lensman--handy to have around, perhaps, for certain kinds of jobs, but absolutely and definitely not a regular Lensman. And it was this attitude which was to make the Red Lensman not merely tolerated, but loved as she was loved by Lensmen, Patrolmen, and civilians alike throughout the length, breadth, and thickness of Civilization's bounds.
