What's next?

Well, I have to make the bracket itself. As you can see, there's a bit more cats than I was intending to have, which means that certain polls in round 1 will have more than just two options. I can already tell you that a lot of the cats from the same fandoms are going to be eliminated in round one. That's why I kept them in. I'm planning on making up the first round match ups based heavily on the similarities between cats and the fandoms they're from. ALSO as you've probably noticed, some cats come in a bundle. That's because they're a family. I'm not doing this to Kitty Softpaws and Puss (at least YET), because even though they also get married in the end, there's a huge gap in their submission numbers. Werewolf Ray final part (I just wanted Ray to get to be a happy pup)

They say the Holy Father has an affinity for stray animals. He feeds birds out in the Vatican gardens, tells stories about the trained pigeons in Kabul. When he takes time to rest in the gardens, stray cats wander into his lap. Even the turtles, normally indifferent to the comings and goings in the Villa Pia, gravitate towards him when he comes to visit.

The strangest one, however, is the stray dog that comes to visit the gardens every so often. They have no idea how the creature gets in or out - or even if it is indeed a dog, no matter how hard his Holiness insists. To most of the guards, it looks suspiciously like a wolf.

Nevertheless, in spite of his size, the Pope's stray dog is both gentle and playful. Vincent likes to throw a ball around for him from time to time, though this game is usually short lived - the dog's fur is coarse and grey with age after all, and he tires out easily. But that doesn't matter, because the two of them seem to enjoy each other's company no matter what they're doing. When the weather turns cooler, the Holy Father can still enjoy the gardens with the help of a large dog to warm his lap. He scratches through his companion's fur, and laughs with delight at the happy whine this elicits.

"Remember that wolf that got loose in the gardens a few months ago?" tries out of the guards, tentatively.

"Oh yes," smiles Vincent, "yes, I remember. The poor, ragged thing. I hope he's alright."

He pets the fur of the animal currently sighing happily against his chest, as if to demonstrate that they could not possibly be thinking that creature was the same one as the healthy, happy pup currently nuzzling into his hand.

Similarly, the observation that Raymond O'Malley seems a lot happier these days, that he seems surprisingly close to the Holy Father all of a sudden, is met with that same polite confusion. Of course he's close to the Holy Father. They work closely together, after all. Ray was the first to clothe and house him, when he'd arrived here at the Vatican. Of course they've become friendly.

Ray never thought he'd be excited to see the full moon. It still hurts, of course - having his body broken apart and pieced back together is a painful process, one that not even Vincent's attentions can fix. But what a difference it makes, having someone there to hold him through it all.

cannot stress enough that my mental backstory for these guys is just those photos of dogs before and after adoption where they're all scraggly and terrified and then afterwards they are soooooo happy and healthy looking. that's raymond o'malley
