As we are talking about books, have you read Frankenstein? Its my favorite and Im so done that I dont know any movie adaptation that satisfies me

i have but it's been a loooong time (at least a decade) so i don't remember it very well. that's also around when i read "moby dick" and i just started re-reading that one so maybe i oughta do frankenstein next

also if you've never read "moby dick" do it immediately it's so much funnier and gayer than you think

I usually watch constantine 2005 sometime during the last couple of months of the year. sometimes several times during the last couple of months of the year. sometimes I even get around to doing a full re read of the vertigo run and find some time to draw the man the myth the legend while I'm on a train.

actually the funniest version of Wicked is where Glinda DOES run away with Fiyeraba after Wonderful (just like Fiyero begged her to in Thank Goodness 🥺🫠), and all three of them end up living together in Kiamo Ko castle 2014 avengers tower fanfic style. cooking waffles, hooking up, getting into hijinks.

but like. they’re still Oz’s most wanted terrorists, elphaba can still probably blow people up with her mind, and the wizard still tries to send a 12yo girl to murder her. it’s chill.

The explosion is white and hot and horrifying, but more horrifying is the way John instantly kicks off the astroboard they were sharing, and propels himself toward it.

“John! No!” Alan dives to catch his brother's arm, dismayed, “There's no way-” but, even with his momentum ruined, John tries to pull away from him - fixated on the flames, on the rescue. Alan has to use every scrap of strength in his wiry body to try and pull him back.

“Alan, get off-”

“John, listen to me-”

“It's on fire, Alan!” John tugs on his arm again, struggling because there are four astronauts aboard that freighter who probably have families to go home to, who- “We've got to get them out of-“

“Look at it, J!” Alan tugs backward, a resistant force. And when did that shrimp of a kid get so strong? “Just… look. That's not- there's not gonna be anything left.”

Things burn hot and fast in space, gobbling through oxygen and fuel like a starving creature. Flames can't sustain themselves in the vacuum, but there'd been enough oxygen on board that ship to light it up like a beacon.

“That wasn't survivable,” Alan curls his fingers in his brother's baldric, right above his heart, “and if there's any ILS fuel and O2 unbreached it's going to catch. We have to clear the area.”

John doesn’t turn to look at him, his gaze fixed to the glowing husk, rapidly being eaten away.

“There's nothing we can do for them now.” Alan tries, much softer - and isn’t it strange for the younger of them to be the one saying that. John is so rarely in the field that Alan doesn’t even know the last time they lost someone directly in front of him. He knows his brother stays on the line for hopeless cases, the ones they don't have time to deploy for, (he's heard Scott and Virgil discussing it) but, from the look on his brother’s face, it's different when you're so close. “They're- They're gone.” He breathes, but John barely seems to hear him: he’s trying to pull away again.

“If there’s any chance-”

“John!” He tries to turn the man, to line up his brother's frantic gaze with his own. Alan is fighting to stay mature, composed - like their Space Monitor would in this situation. “John, if you were on Thunderbird Five, running Ops, you'd never let us go anywhere near that while it's burning.” He insists, “Come on J, you know that wasn't survivable! Give me the odds, right now!”

He has to watch his big brother's face crumple and Alan's heart aches for him. John must know, on some level, that the odds are none, because he refuses to answer - his jaw set tight behind the flames reflected in his helmet.

"We can't just-" John starts, his voice thick. Stubborn tears gather in the corners of Alan's eyes.

“J-ohn.” His voice breaks, and he throws himself at the other astronaut's chest, wrapping both arms tight around him. “I'm sorry, ok? But there's nothing we can do. I- You can't go in there until everything's inert because we can't lose you too.”

And that, loaded with a thousand situations where he had thought the same thing about them, is finally what stills John Tracy.

yknow what actually the fandom does not talk nearly enough about how Percy is technically canonically black. in Demigods & Magicians he says Sadie Kane is exactly how he imagines Annabeth and his future kids to be like, both personality-wise and in terms of physical appearance. Sadie Kane is biracial, which very overtly implies Percy is black. Demigods & Magicians is not ghostwritten so it's not even like this is a different author continuity thing. This is just a fact about Percy that he just indirectly drops and nobody ever talks about it.
