📚📚 B O O K R E V I E W 📚📚 Yes, I’m back. Again! Work seems to have taken over my life. I really need to learn how to manage my time efficiently. I do not want to miss out on my passion due to work or any other reason. I miss reading so much. I honestly don’t remember the last time I finished a book in a day or two. Those were the days! ☹ Anyway, I read Artemis Fowl in Jan and Feb. Did the first book’s review in Jan. But then decided to do the review of the series as a whole rather than of individual books. I loved the first book. Even though it sounded a bit childish at times the plot was great and I enjoyed it. The book is of course classified as both children’s literature and young adult(?) so the childishness is acceptable. The world building was great in Book 1. It’s been more than 2 months since I read it but I can still see the fairy world vividly in my mind. Artemis Fowl was a difficult character to like in the initial books. As we go through the books, he gradually starts to change and I just couldn’t help but like him! Having said that, Holly Short was my favorite character. She is the first female officer in her division but she stands her ground on what she believes is right. Moving on to what I did not like, some of the characters kind of kept changing to suit the needs of the plot! Especially Mulch, the dwarf and Juliet, Artemis’ bodyguard Butler’s sister. There were many other glaring plot holes and too many coincidences. The series is good for a one time read but don’t expect to be blown away. Even the ending was kind of a let-down for me. 📚 📚 🅱🅾🅾🅺 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 📚 📚 Arjun and Chaman are best friends from school and they also join the army together. Chaman’s sister Vani meets Arjun for the first time when he comes to visit. They just spend one day together and it’s love at first sight. Since the story is set in the eighties, there are no phones or emails. So, Arjun and Vani keep in touch through letters which brought back some fond memories from my childhood. I used to keep in touch with my friends through letters before the evolution of emails. The book was a very easy read. The plot and language were quite simple. Even though there was nothing new in the plot, it was still a pleasure to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The last quarter of the book felt stretched out unnecessarily. While the rest of the book moves fast, this portion was painstakingly slow. Otherwise it’s a good read if you love the romance genre. I had seen this book too around Bookstagram last year. And so I decided to read it solely due to Bookstagram. The title was intriguing enough for me. As the title suggests, it’s about a woman who spies on her neighbors through her window. Dr Anna Fox has agoraphobia, which simply put is the fear of going anywhere outside your house. Anna lives alone and to anyone who asks she says that she’s separated from her husband and her daughter is with the father. She spends her day watching old movies, drinking too much and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move in to the house across hers. A perfect family of father, mother and a teenaged son. But when one night Anna sees something that she shouldn’t, her reality comes crashing down. Her sanity is questioned and she is accused of hallucinating. #QOTD Are you guys still receiving book mail? 📚 📚 At the start of March I was itching to buy new books. I had almost ordered them. I was trying to get the Imagine Me series. But unfortunately Book Depository didn't have all the books. I was trying to decide what else I should order. But that's when all of these issues started and I never ordered anything. Now I wish I had. What if the library doesn't open soon?? I'm trying to read less physical books so that I don't run out of them. I think all shipping are delayed or doesn't come through. #QOTD Have you ever done a beta reading? If yes, how was your experience? 📚 📚 This year I had wanted to do more of ARCs. Never in my wildest dream would I have imagined that I will get a chance to do beta reading. It is such a different experience. I have really started appreciating the amount of hard work that goes into writing a book. It's not as simple as writing whatever comes to your mind. 📚 📚 I feel I have grown as a reader. It's my friend's book and so we have discussions after I finish each section/part. It's when she asks me detailed questions that I reevaluate what a particular paragraph or an event made me feel. This is when I realized how subconsciously I had an opinion on everything. Normally I just read a book and it's only by the end I think about how the book made me feel. But with a beta read, it's so much different. Now I start thinking whether this part can be improved, is this incident really necessary in the book etc etc. 📚 📚 Before I started I was not sure whether I would enjoy it but if you know me, you know that I'm always up for trying new things no matter what. And so I was more than ready to do the beta read. It is a huge book and I'm going slow. So I'm only less than a quarter into the book. But I can tell you that I'm definitely enjoying it. To be honest, this experience has also made me see every book I read in a different light. I've realized that I am also able to write better reviews. And well, I got 4 more! Fear Nothing is the first among those four that I decided to read. This book didn’t disappoint me at all. Almost all of her books are part of a series. But the best part is that they can be read as standalone too. Even though I haven’t read any books that came before this one, I didn’t feel as if I missed reading them. #QOTD What are you reading now? 📚 📚 After reading Touch & Go last month, I wanted to read more books by Lisa Gardner. So on my last visit, I went directly to this section in the picture. I took 4 more of her books. I'm currently reading the first of it which is Fear Nothing and I'm loving it. I only have around 70 more pages left and I still haven't figured out the killer. I do have a few suspects of my own! But I wouldn't be surprised if the killer turns out to be none on my list. Anyways if you love thrillers, her books are a must read. I know I've only read 2 of her books. But these two have been great. I'm looking forward to reading the other 3 I've borrowed.
