Confessions of A Bookworm

As an avid reader, I always look for more books to read. I may also share some of the books I have come across on my path, that I feel have shared some useful information.

I am a read-for-knowledge type of person. My husband and children sometimes make jokes, because the books I am into can also be used for what I do for work, but I love expanding on my knowledge so I can be more well-versed on the subject matters.

The books I read are often educational, spiritual, metaphysical, medical, health and wellness, self-discovery, and self-help-based. Although I also read sci-fi, comics, graphic novels, fantasy fiction, and magical realism. I am a writer and have written poetry and expression pieces most of my life, with tons of journals and notebooks filled with over 20+ years of my writings. So I also enjoy a good poetry book as well.

Being a heavy reading couple, it also brings me joy to know that our children have inherited the same nature, with a love for reading, and writing as well, and between all of us, the libraries never know what to do with us, because we will go through entire sections, often having to request books in advance.

I would love to receive book suggestions if anyone has any they would love to recommend.

I have also posted a picture of some books I own that contain helpful information, different perspectives on certain things that allow room for growth and development, and personal improvement.

Why Not...

“With a quick, sharp movement, she made a tiny rip in the page, her small act of revenge, splitting the words Kill Joy.” ✨🔪✨ Kill Joy by Holly Jackson is the prequel novella to A Good Girls Guide to Murder trilogy! Following Pip as she attends a murder mystery party, this book was a fun and quick way to see how Pip got into solving murders in the first place. Showcasing various characters from the original trilogy, we get to see a little bit more of their personalities, which was a really cool aspect of this novella. It was also really cool to watch Pip get so into the fake mystery, which was helped with the inclusion of the pamphlet provided by the company for the game. Despite being a novella, this book had a little bit of a creepy atmosphere and had a couple of twists I didn’t see coming. I also very much loved the slight foreshadowing the end of the novella had. First of all, Thank you @gargsachin for sending this signed review copy to me. It was an absolute delight for a bookworm to receive a book like that.

Next, coming to the book. This book is an amagamation of letters from an Indian man Havaldaar Ghulam Ali Limb-Fitter and his beloved Zahira. Ghulam Ali, after serving the East India Company as an Indian soldier in the WW2 (1939- 1945), by his misfortune finds himself posted in Lahore during the time of partition in 1947. He tries his best to come back to his hometown Lucknow, but by then Indian Government recognized him as a Pakistani soldier, and Pakistan recognized him as an Indian spy. He somehow manages to come back to Lucknow for a few days, when he meets Zahira and falls in love, but gets dragged away to Pakistan soon enough. Since he had no Pakistani documents, he gets thrown into the Hindu Refugee Camp of Lahore, where the letters begin their story.

The story is inspired from true events, and what I loved is the strong bond of love between Ghulam Ali and Zahira, even though they met only for a month or less. The author’s choices of words were easy flowing for everyone to understand, and the story was built in a fast paced yet a little mysterious way. There is nothing I disliked in the book honestly. If you are a historical fiction lover, and a fan of the age old correspondence using letters, I will urge you to go and read this book. It’s an absolute 5* from my end.

“Unlike the internet, information on paper wasn’t forever. It could be burned, consumed, never seen again. Love letters could be forgotten. Secrets could be destroyed. Stains could be scrubbed away. Ink was not forever.” ✨👹✨👹✨ The Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovalino is a young adult dark academia horror thriller that I’ve wanted to read for quite a while, and I’m glad I finally did! Following Tess and Eliot as they accidentally set the devil free from his binding, this book was dark, atmospheric and twisty, which made it hard to put down. I was a huge fan of the school/library setting, which just added to the atmosphere of the novel. I have to admit that I wasn’t all that invested in either of the characters, but I found Eliot’s backstory incredibly interesting, especially as he was involved with magic. I found that the relationship between them was a little bit unrealistic, especially as it was so rocky for the majority of the novel. That being said, I think they balanced one another out while challenging each other, which is always a fascinating combination. Beautifully written in a way that it both lyrical and captivating, this book had all of the dark academia vibes. Bovalibo managed to capture both the beauty and wonder alongside the horror and fear.
