I have high standards.
Do I?
Everytime we watch a random couple reel where partner is putting in efforts for the person they love, the most common thing you'd read in comments is "Oh they have raised my standards" or "Not going to settle until I find the person like him”.
And it is too good to be true.
No one these days want to settle for the bare minimum.
I use to think of myself the same.
“I have high standards”.
I just kept saying this thing to myself.
But when I actually took a decision to share a part of my life with someone else, I realised I don't have any standards in general.
The least I'd expect from them is being honest and loyal towards me and to update about their whereabouts.
And that's the bare minimum. The literal bare minimum.
I realised I don't have standards in general. It's the Instagram that made me think that I've raised my bars very high.
Yes ofcourse my father treated me the best way possible - forget bare minimum, he literally did anything and everything that could make me feel like 'his princess'.
But that doesn't mean I can expect the same from my partner.
I prefer my mind to be realistic about everything instead of delusional.
I can't feed my mind that I'll only marry someone if that boy fills up this or that criteria.
Because somewhere we all girls know - fictional world is something else.
If you are getting that treatment in real life, than you are lucky (read God's favourite).
But not every girl in their future can get what they had dreamt of all their life long.
Not every boy acts like Virat Kohli or some Wattpad/movie hero to make you feel special.
Being too much delusional about things can only ruin it all later on. You will end up expecting too muchh from the partner.
Reality is somewhat different.
Because when you get married - you'd accept what you have.
You won't say at that moment, “no my man didn't call me from office just like Virat Kohli did to Anushka from field to share his win with her”.
And not to forget, if there are guys like Virat Kohli making weird faces on the video call while being on field and getting recorded, there are also guys like Rohit Sharma who'd scold the cameraman right away to record him impromptu.
Every person is different. Every person's profession is different. Every person's life is different. Then how come we can expect the same treatment?
At the end, it will all about adjusting to what your current life status is and not what others life looks like.
Afterall, it's your own story - it has to be different than others.

Bulbbul Review
Tumblr media
June 27, 2020
by Inakshi Chandra-Mohanty
In the last few years, Indian filmmakers have reinvented the horror and supernatural genre for the Indian audiences. Taking inspiration from Indian mythology and literature, these new-age films have left behind the conventional use of jump scares and ghosts in havelis, that dominated the narrative of early Indian horror. Many of these tropes were directly lifted from Hollywood films and placed in an Indian setting leaving little room for innovation. But lately, filmmakers are exploring different territories in this genre. From Pari to Tumbbad, the conventional horror film has been transformed into a vivid display of mythology and fantasy, and now the latest edition to this list is Bulbbul. A supernatural period drama, the film traces the life of a child bride as she matures into young woman presiding over a fragmented household. In the midst of her reign, a series of murders take place and her London return brother-in-law decides to uncover the truth behind the rumors that this is the work of a chudail (witch).
The film is nowhere near perfect. The progression of the story is mundane and predictable. Yet, it is difficult not to marvel at the ambitious nature of the concept and the novelty with which it is executed. A lack of suspense and thrill don’t take away from magnificence of the tale being told. The slow, brooding nature of the story revels in the horrific themes explored in the film. Based in patriarchal sentiments, the film emerges as a feminist tale and twists the age-old terrorizing legend of the chudail into the story of an audacious young woman, plagued by a traumatic past. The roles are reversed as demon becomes human and human becomes demon. The film isn’t meant to be a horror film set in a fantasy world with unknown evils. Instead, it is reflective of the world that we live in, and the demons within us that bring out the demons within others.
Writer-director Anvita Dutt has built a fantasy aesthetic out of a real world in her debut film. The film is meticulously put together. As a director, she has excelled. However, as writer, she falters. Conceptually and structurally, the writing is strong, but some of the character are half-baked. The two characters, which are extremely well written and have the strongest arcs are Bulbbul and her sister-in-law, Binodini. This may be due to the unusual bond between them. They are the antithesis of one another. Bulbbul defies all odds to do what no other woman would dare, while Binodini is the one to conform, relishing in the luxury. Yet, they are not much different. They have both suffered. But, Bulbbul’s suffering becomes her strength as she refuses to become another Binodini. While she had many complaints with the latter, a victim turned victimizer, she also held a bit of sympathy for this woman who had suffered a similar plight to hers.
Compared to these strong female characters, the male characters are poorly written. They are all written in relation to Bulbbul, thus their own personality and motivations are clouded by Bulbbul’s character development. Satya and Dr. Sudip are the most disappointing. They are the characters that compose the conflict in the climax. Yet, that conflict is only believable when the characters’ arcs are clear. Satya’s anger towards the chudail and his behavior at the end isn’t justified, while Sudip’s mysteriousness remains a mystery. Maybe this can be attributed to the fact that the writer is a woman, making a film about women. Thus, the focus heavily shifted towards the female characters.
These characters would be just words written on paper if the actors hadn’t brought them to life. Tripti Dimri essays the titular role, Bulbbul, and masters the role with elegance. This is the most layered character in the film with the strongest shifts in personality. The same smile that propagated innocent charm as Laila in Laila Majnu displayed cunning boldness as Bulbbul. While in her former film, she fit the part and provided a great companion to Majnu, in this film, she owns every frame and displays consistency in complexity. It’s not just an improvement. She has truly reinvented herself for this role. Paoli Dam as Binodini is equally as admirable. She emotes so seamlessly, though her screen time is considerably less than the former. Avinash Tiwary, Rahul Bose, and Parambrata Chatterjee are apt in the roles written for them.
While Anvita Dutt is definitely the master of this project, due credit must also be given to Clean Slate Productions, helmed by Anushka Sharma. The company has been backing ambitious, content-driven projects with a focus on new talent. Even though Bulbbul and the company’s previous horror outing, Pari, are not perfect, both have had a large impact on the approach to horror in Indian cinema. Hopefully, as more and more artists begin to experiment with the genre, these great concepts will lead to great cinema.
Though with its flaws, Bulbbul scores on many points including story, acting, soundtrack, camerawork, editing, and direction. This is a film that I would have loved to watch on the big screen just for the visually stunning imagery, consisting contrasts of red and blue, and the haunting background music. It has a charm, an elegance, and a vision that is unmatched. This fairytale with a sinister twist is one to remember.

10 Modern Bollywood Thrillers To Watch
A genre that has always been one of my favorites is thriller. The suspense building up slowly and steadily leading to a plot twist, which makes the much-awaited conclusion satisfying and jaw-dropping. Experiencing thrillers is always fun and exciting, but making them is one of the toughest jobs. So here is 10 modern bollywood thrillers that will surely keep you on the edge of your seat.
1. ANDHADHUN (DIR. SRIRAM RAGHAVAN)
Tumblr media
One of the biggest successes in the industry in 2018 is the film Andhahun by Sriram Raghavan. Inspired by a French short film ‘The Piano Turner’, the film follows a blind pianist witnessing the murder scene of a former actor, who happens to have a gorgeous yet deceiving wife. That’s all I can give you as I am afraid if it would spoil the entire experience for you. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I recommend you to do so on Netflix. You won’t be disappointed.
2. KAHAANI (DIR. SUJOY GHOSH)
Tumblr media
One of the best thrillers Bollywood has to offer is Kahaani  by Sujoy Ghosh. This award-winning film is about a pregnant woman navigating the huge city of Kolkata to find her missing husband. The amazing storytelling accompanied with Vidya Balan’s acting skills is a roller coaster of a ride and the plot twist at the end is just mind-blowing! Definitely watch it on Netflix.
3. SPECIAL 26 (DIR. NEERAJ PANDEY)
Tumblr media
After impressing us with A Wednesday, Neeraj Pandey comes out with Special 26. Based on the 1987 Opera House Heist, the movie is about a group of con men disguising as CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) officers to perform raids in many politicians and businessmen’s homes and the real CBI officer attempts to catch them in their upcoming raid at a jewelry store. This hit movie will definitely keep you captivated and is available of Netflix.
4. BADLA (DIR. SUJOY GHOSH)
Tumblr media
The duo of Pannu and Bachchan is back at it again after their hit movie Pink, with the thriller Badla by Sujoy Ghosh. The story revolves around a rich businesswoman accused of murdering her ex-lover and her lawyer helping her. The entire movie will keep you guessing and give you an astonishing but satisfying conclusion. Definitely one of my favorites and accessible on Netflix.
5.  KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK (DIR. VIJAY LALWANI)
Tumblr media
From the director Vijay Lalwani, Karthik Calling Karthik is about a man’s life spiraling out of control and just when he is about to lose hope, he starts getting calls from an unknown person who knows all about him. Being the first film to make me fall in love with thrillers, it holds a special place in my heart. This movie is intriguing and nail-biting and it will make you think about it for days and days.
6. DRISHYAM (DIR. NISHIKANT KAMAT)
Tumblr media
The movie Drishyam is directed by Nishikant Kamat and is a Bollywood remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. The movie follows a humble man making drastic decisions to protect his family from going to jail. Although the movie is a remake, it still has great direction and performances and even though I knew what would happen as I watched the original, it still managed to keep me on the edge. The movie is available on Netflix.
7. TE3N (DIR. RIBHU DASGUPTA)
Tumblr media
At first I wanted to avoid watching this movie because I didn’t want to feel the sadness of Bachchan’s character as I was going through my tough times too. But when I finally got to watching it on Netflix, I was not at all disappointed. The film by Ribhu Dasgupta is about a grandfather trying to search the kidnapper of his granddaughter with an inspector and a priest. The movie is unpredictable and keeps you glued to the screen.
8. A DEATH IN THE GUNJ (DIR. KONKONA SEN SHARMA)
Tumblr media
Marking the start of Konkona Sen Sharma’s directing venture, A Death in the Gunj is about a university student that spends his vacation with his relatives and learns about what it takes to be a man. Exploring themes like masculinity, the movie is visually stunning and is heartbreaking. Although it isn’t an extreme thriller like the ones mentioned above, it is still very beautiful and underrated. Catch this masterpiece on Amazon Prime.
9. BADLAPUR (DIR. SRIRAM RAGHAVAN)
Tumblr media
Another one from Sriram Raghavan, Badlapur concentrates on a husband whose wife and son was murdered and is now set on getting revenge on people who did it. Walking in to watch this movie, I didn’t expect Varun Dhawan, an actor predominantly working in rom-coms, to give such a terrifying performance. So along with that and the supporting cast and amazing script, the movie was one hell of a ride to witness and is a definite must-watch.
10. NH10 (DIR. NAVDEEP SINGH)
Tumblr media
A true gem from Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Films, NH10 is about a woman avenging her husband’s murder after they witness an honor killing. Easily one of Sharma’s best performances, the movie is brutal and vile and shows you the ugly side of India well. The script and premise is intriguing and gripping and the cast gives their best (especially Kumaar as the villain). Give it a watch and experience the intensity it yourself.

The past decade has changed the Bollywood content arena, and it looks like audiences are spoilt for choice, but what about the next decade?
youtube
The film is directed by Ramesh Sippy, starring Hema Malini, who is making a comeback in a romantic comedy. The film Shimla Mirchi has been stuck for 5 years, and no distributor was willing to take it up, but after a long struggle the film has finally been released in cinemas today. This film is an ensemble with stars such as Anil Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Shruti Haasan, Anushka Sharma, Raghuram Rajput, Sushant Singh Bhushan and Manish Tiwari.
The trailer of Shimla Mirchi begins with a charming guy named Avi who has no problem wooing a girl and confessing his love for Rajkummar. He falls in love with a free, spirited girl named Naina Rakul and decides to write her a letter in which he confesses his love for her.
Rukmini immediately falls in love with the letter and wants to date Rao, who is her age, but his daughter Naina Rakul (Preet Singh) is desperate for him to get on with his life and pass on the love letter he wrote her.
The Shimla Mirchi film directed by Ramesh Sippy had a fantastic playground performance to which the audience reacted with laughter and a good amount of positive feedback from the audience. Bollywood films are great in their category - duper, but this supposedly funny plot is so ridiculous that the funniest part of this film is Malini supporting Kent's real-life water purification meta-product. The film was originally supposed to be released last year, but has already been postponed five times and it has been decided that it will not be released until the second half of 2020, after the release of the first film.
The film consists of Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpai, Anil Kapoor, Shashi Thakur, Raghuram Rajan and Anushka Sharma. The story follows the story of two young women who fall in love with the same man while he plays the role of a young man in his first film Dabangg.
When the trailer for the film SHIMLA MIRCHI appeared on the Internet on December 26, 2019 without any hint, moviegoers and trade experts were surprised. The trailer begins with a confident Avi Rao, who lacks the courage to express his love for Naina Singh.
The film is said to be a sweet little romantic story set in Shimla and directed by Ramesh Sippy in 2014. Directed by SHOLAY director Ramesh Sippy, the film is a long-delayed romcom set to hit theaters in its first week in theaters on December 26, 2020. Our Shimla Mirchi Movie review predicts an opening week for the film, which will probably add up to a good collection.
Ramesh Sippy cheered on the audience in the theatre when it occurred to me that I had pre-ordered my double ticket for drama and film. As a director, he brings out the stars of the film and their best performances to date, as well as the film itself.
The film may have had a bearable opening because it's weak, experts say, but what happens next is fairly predictable. The 2 hours and 20 minutes of the film are almost unbearable and even make the audience survive the climax. As fantastic as the film's reviews may be, it still doesn't match the performance of its stars in the film.
The sole merit of the film belongs to Rajkummar Rao, and he is the only reason why you can see this film. Hema Malini is beautiful beyond words, but the weak script has little to do with it. In fact, she, too, is undeniable and pulls off her role with ease and grace.
Rakul Preet Singh looks cute, and her pairing with Rajkummar may appeal to audiences, but this love story requires a bigger - than - movie star to work for it. Despite the best efforts of Rao and Singh, their romance is frisson - free. As the stumbling and passionate Avinash, he channels his inner Rukh Sharma, a man with a heart of gold and a love for his wife.
SHIMLA MIRCHI, a newly released Hindi drama starring Hema Malini and Rajkumar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh as its co-stars. The café where Avinash works and which is owned by Naina has one of his favourite Lecher as manager and one Lecher as owner.
Shimla Mirchi is directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by Rajkumar Rao, the son of Ravi Shankar - son-in-law and co-producer. The director, whose credits include Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta and Andaaz, is returning to directing after nearly two decades.
The trailer for the film has been released showing Rajkummar Rao in the role of a man who proposes to the woman he loves. He writes a letter professing his love for Rakul Preet, who accidentally ends up in the hands of his mother, played by veteran actress Hema Malini.

Wait your brown right? Do you watch hindi movies? Could you recommend some thriller or mystery ones? I've been watching ddlj and k3g my entire life lol I wanna broaden my horizon
Hi! Yes I am, and I most definitely do! Of course I can give recs (also, I’ve been bingeing the (psychological) thriller section of Bollywood these days, so this is perfectly timed haha!) So, in no particular order:
KahaaniThis is by far one of my absolute favorite ones. Vidya Balan is incredible in this. It’s about a woman who comes to India in search of her husband who came there for a business trip but never returned. It’s so well-crafted and ties together so well, it leaves me speechless every time.
Barot HouseI watched this just last week, and despite being a low-budget film, it is by far one of the most amazing psychological thrillers I’ve seen in a very long time. It’s a little odd and confusing initially, but stick through the first 20-25 minutes, and it really takes off from there.
NH10First of all - female oriented film!!! With Anushka Sharma, who’s so talented!!! Need I say more? The plot surrounds Anushka and her husband travelling on National Highway 10 (hence the name NH10) and accidentally witnessing a murder, and then trying to escape the murderers. It’s amazing. Anushka’s performance is brilliant in the film.
Ittefaq: It Happened One NightI haven’t seen the old one, but the remake (?) of it with Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna is absolutely amazing. I know it didn’t garner the best critic reviews, but I found it really interesting and captivating. Essentially, Sidharth is accused of murdering his wife and runs away before he can be arrested, only to land in another house where a murder takes place (Sonakshi’s house). Akshaye Khanna plays the police officer and works to find the truth. The twists in the story until the very end leave you on the edge of your seat.
Special 26Akshay Kumar. That’s enough said. This man delivers such fine works of art, it’s commendable. Basically, it surrounds a group of people who pose as CBI officers and lead fake CBI raids to loot politicians and businessmen, and Manoj Bajpayee (also a fine actor) and his CBI team working to catch the conmen red-handed. It’s a really gripping story, right up until the last 60 seconds.
RustomOnce again, Akshay Kumar. It’s based on the real case that led to the end of the jury system in India. Basically, a very respectable naval officer returns home, only to find out that his wife has been having an affair. He kills the man she was involved with, and then pleads “not guilty” in court. He represents himself in the case, and as it unfolds, it gets more and more interesting. Absolutely delightful performances by everyone involved.
DrishyamAjay Devgn has delivered stunningly in this movie. It’s the story of a school-dropout yet amazingly intelligent man who believes in justice and honesty, who takes desperate measures to save his family when they commit an unintentional and unexpected crime. It’s so smartly crafted, leaves me speechless every time.
KaabilThis had me on my toes the entire time. It’s about a blind couple (Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam) who fall in love, only for things to go horribly wrong. It’s essentially about how a specially-abled man struggles with the apathy of the judicial system and takes matters into his own hands. Also, Ronit Roy is the villain. If you know him, you know what a fine actor he is and how well he contributes to his works.
There’s quite a few more, but these were the ones I could think off the top of my head! Hope this helps and you enjoy some of them, if not all! :)

kasautii zindagii kay 25.09.18 lb
don’t expect these regularly. pehli ep dekh rahi hoon toh kar rahi hoon. first impressions and all. will be watching this show veryyyyy sporadically.
also, i went and watched the first ep of the original before this to revive memories and do an accurate comparison.
lmaoooooo i’d forgotten and kinda missed ekta’s predilection to start every show with SUCHHHHHHH gratuitous shots of bhagwan.
show kolkata mein based hai toh mumbai ka siddhivinayak mandir kyun dikha rahe ho?
but also some durga maa shots and the bengali ululation to reassure us ki haan haan, kolkata mein hi hai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lol just look at the sizeeeeeeee of that “middle class” house.
watching an ekta show after agessssss and discovering all the little balaji quirks are still intact is a trip and a half.
waah re, exaaact same aarti as the original they’re using. nice.
oh i realllllly appreciate the little captions telling us the name of each character. coz this show has tooo fucking many. and i could never keep track of them in the original.
idhar already attempt to establish anurag as hero. ki dekho dad takkkkk is late to aarti, but bhai apna has already started.
MAN THESE FAMILIES ARE TOO BIG. HOW MANY DAMN KIDS YOU PPL BE HAVING??????????????
Tumblr media
oh ho ho shekhar has a cuteeeeeeeee smile.
mohini ji toh abhi bhi 2002 paro waale hangover mein hain.
i really love this actress (shubhavi chouksey) tho. she plays balance of bitchhhhh and weepy bits quite well.
also lol i still remember her “mihirrrrrrrjiiiiiiii” from kyunki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
really relate with her being 1000% done with her husband. excuse me sir, aap bhi late hi aayein hain. you get no moral superiority points.
this chick is still asleep????????
there’s no fucking way you ppl (prerna, and whoever this jogging chick is) can get ready in time before aarti ends.
oh no. jogger girl does notttttttttttttt look good. waaaaaaaaayyyy too OTT. like not in a fun way like mohini or komolika. in a fire your stylist way.
oh it’s nivedita.
wtfffffffffffff is anupam wearing my god. it’s like one of those silver rescue blankets but in florescent orange. jesus.
anupam still a dgaf cartoon here also. cool.
tapur’s just rolling innnnnnnnn. also lol at her passive aggressive snark smile.
MY GOD THIS AARTI IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. IT’S CLOCKED IN AT OVER 6 MINUTES ALREADY. MATLAB BHAGWAAN KO AUR BHI KAAM HAI MY DUDES, POORE DIN TUMHARI IS AARTI MEIN HI BAITHE RAHEIN KYA??????
also what kinda fucking upper body strength does anurag have to keep going like this????? need no arm workout for the rest of the week.
um prerna, wearing paayal jhumka and all that is not the priority rn. JUST GET YOUR ASS DOWN THERE SO THIS NEVER-ENDING AARTI CAN FINISHHHHHH.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
poooore suit se zyaada kapda iske dupatte mein lagta hai.
Tumblr media
yeah these two are just toooooooo bland looking for my taste.
blah blah blah waqt issues.
ok so these guys don’t even have to do any work in writing the show. literallly just taking alllllllllll the dialogues from the original, huh.
anurag is a real stick in the mud, taking the ladoo back from his dad. asshole.
yeah i can already tell shubhavi is gonna act circles around the rest of this cast. multiple times.
this show is just maaaaaaade for the negative characters to shine, over the boring goody-goodies.
ok i’d forgotten how irritating erica’s voice is. she sounds like she’s perpetually phlegmy.
CHEATER PRERNAAAAAAAAAAA. original mein phool apne aap gira tha. chal jhooti. koi khaas dosti nahi hai teri bappa ke saath.
weird how they didn’t bother covering up erica’s cross tattoo. prerna sharma would never have a tattoo.
props to daddy sharma for being progressive papa and not seeing beti as bhoj.
blah blah blah humaari beti kitniiiiii pyaaari hai nonsense.
pft moloy and his dumbassery.
lmao “classes. business management.” who talks like this? who says the name of their degree/major when their mom asks where they’re going?
............ which parent in this day and age would resist their kid going to fucking college????? lol get real. a business family like this would push their kid to get an mba for fucking sure.
ok his voice is just as, if not even more, annoying than erica’s.
i won’t be surprised if mohini spits in moloy’s chai every now and then. he’s kinda asking for it.
bhaaaaaaaaaari cgi on college building. achcha hai, anyway script likhne mein paise ki bachat hui hai, toh ispe hi kharch kardo.
prerna’s friend is a horndog.
lol “JERSEY mein dikhta hai” as if it’s something great. kabhi aarti ke time jao uske ghar pe. tab shirtless hota hai.
ok this is creeeeeepy as fuck how all the girls are peeping into the boys’ locker room. just think how it’d look if it was reversed.
pehchaan waala hai toh why is she looking at him like it’s the first time??? yaa pehli baar “jersey mein” dekha hai?
jeeeeee bhar ke taadne ke baad, bol rahi hai “mujhse nahi hoga” lol, ok.
prerna’s friend has acquired another suitably horndog companion.
oh greatttttttttttttttt, casual homophobic statement. first of many, no doubt.
why is this chick getting SOOOOOOOO hyper about prerna/anurag talking? calm thy tits, madam.
OH GOD THEY’RE EVEN RECREATING THIS NONSENSE SCENE FROM THE ORIGINAL, WHERE THIS RANDOM DUDE PREDICTS THE CONVERSATION. IT’S SOOOOOOOOO DATED AND LAME AS A STORY-TELLING DEVICE. CRINGE!MAXXXX
wow, bothhhhh their annoying voices together is truly mind-numbingly grating.
ALSO MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST BORING CONVERSATION EVER.
Tumblr media
prerna has the same oh god kahan phas gaye face that i have rn watching this.
ouff random expository dialogue on aane waala toofaaan.
this random bystander needs to shut up with his commentary and predictions. mostly coz he’s so wrong.
annoying horndog’s name is saloni. and she’s being annoying some more, this time towards prerna.
my god who the fuck is like ‘omg don’t tell me you DIDN’T fuck him’ to a total random stranger, in the very first convo they have with them??????? saloni needs to learn how to interact with ppl in polite society.
prerna like sorry, i don’t like rational men. lol good luck with that. it should reallllllly serve you well in life.
AND NOW SALONI’S LIKE CAN YOU FIND OUT IF ANURAG’S STRAIGHT?????? OMFG THIS CHICK IS REALLY ASKING FOR A JHAPPAD.
AND PRERNA’S LIKE OK I’LL TRY. JFC.
seems like papa sharma has seen band baaja baarat too many times, ki anushka ki “vyaapaar aur pyaar” waali baat kuch zyaada hi dil pe le li.
15 lakh ka loan for what exactly?
ouff khudddaari dialogue. itniiiiiiii khuddaari hai toh loan bhi mat liya karo?
yeah mohini is srslyyyyyy just taking all her styling inspiration straight from 2002 devdas.
moloy is getting on my last damn nerve.
the dubbing of this show is really bad. at some points the mouths are just moving completeeeeeeely outta sync with the sound.
i really like prerna’s mom.
yes yes we got it, sabse bada pandaal yahi hai. you have convinced us.
i don’t get ppl who live in india and have zero patience for random things like roadblocks. like.... this is just how life IS here????? stop being a dick. itni jaldi hai, toh fucking get out and walk the 3 extra steps.
ouff prerna and her manic pixie-ness. i’m so tired of this HAR WAQT PHUDAKTI MACHALTI type heroines, who are unable to keep the ~~~excitement of lifeeeeeeeee~~~~ inside themselves and are constantly squirming.
lol the way mohini’s face instantly changed on having to interact with middle class person.
lmaooooooooo i’ve read a lot about erica and her weird way of saying “auntyji” and i finally get it.
.... why is she interrupting mohini’s conversation with her friends with her random tippani on anurag? unka beta hai, jo chaahe kahe; kissi ne tumse raaiii maangi?
damn, that was cold how she just abruptly walked away tho.
chandrika looks like SHE’s the one who came here in the back of a tempo, instead of prerna, who has not oneeeee hair outta place.
lol prerna’s mom is like hmph my daughter is soooo much better.
some more time waste on establishing just how big pandaal is.
pregnancy ki complications ki wajaah se mummy is STILL babying onuuuu, like 25 years later. waah bhai. jai ho aisi moms ki. inka bas chale toh umbilical cord kaate hi na.
nivideta waali actress’s hair and makeup is really doing nothing for her. esp. the hair. it’s making her forehead look bizarre. like i get she’s supp to be OTT, poonam was too in the original, but it suited her. this here is just not working.
some more casualllllll misogyny from moloy.
foreshadowing regarding prerna being anurag’s own personal toofaan.
mohini cannot stand a middle class girl even being within a 10 ft radius of precious baby boiiii. kahin uske exhalation par middle class waale co2 molecules na pad jaaye mere onuuuuuu pe!
they really need to put a flashing images warning on this show.
lmao tapur’s sheeeeeeer discomfort at being made to do aarti. #relatable
mohini’s not happpppppy ki prerna kahin se ghus aayi hai to do aarti. aadat daal lo AuNTyJiiiiiiiii. ab toh yeh har jagah ghusne waali hai.
ppl pray for peace of mind and this dumbass here is asking for a toofaan in her life. well i hope you’re ready, miss thang. coz this is going to be the last peaceful day of your godforsaken life. good luck.
thank god mohini didn’t see raja beta touching the hand of a mere commoner.
ANJALI IS STILL CAUGHT UP ON THIS BS.
AND OMG PRERNA ARE YOU SRSLY GONNA DO THIS???????
prerna, are you trying to find out if he’s straight, or signal to him ki you’re gay???? coz your opening line on how many cute girls there are here sounds like the latter.
.... i can’t believe she just asked him that. srsly. how the fuckkkkkkk is it any of your business?
god her verbal diarrhea. girl please stop.
yeah i really won’t be able to watch this show because her voice is just.... intolerable.
“haan mujhe ladke pasand hai. i like boys.”
pls. i wish. this would be an infinitely interesting show then. those would be some real kasautiiis. trying to navigate indian society in every way as a non-hetero.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“gooooood choice. baaaad luck.”
lol at least he has a sense of humour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pffffffffffffffft.
i don’t like these nonsense gay jokes but this kinda felt like a befitting reply to her dumbass intrusive question.
mohini really rude af. but i also kinda admire her attitude of not dealing with ppl she doesn’t want to. i wish i had it.
LE YEH PHIR AA GAYI ISKE PAAS.
at least she’s apologizing.
WHAT IS WITH THESE TWO AND ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE WEATHER. JFC. SO BORING.
some pretty heavyyyyyyyyyyy handed exposition re: mahishasura.
who dis character tho??????
ouff too much dramatics with the sharaab ki bottal phodna and pandit ki commentary and the chunari over those two. it’s alll TOO MUCH.
lo shahrukh bhi aa gaya gyaan dene.
Tumblr media
MY GOD WHY IS HE AGING LIKE THIS JFC IT’S LIKE WITNESSING MY CHILDHOOD DECOMPOSE IN FRONT OF MY VERY EYES.
overall impression
production values and all are amazing, as expected. the two actresses playing the moms are the best. the fathers are that special desi dad brand of benevolently annoying. the leads have zeroooooooooooo personality and appeal for me though. they’re just too bland and boring (like, that ~*SPARK*~ shweta tiwari had???? sorely missing.) too early to tell about chemistry right now, but they both really need to work on their dialogue delivery, because my god, it’s truly the worst (esp. erica’s.) the only draw of this show for me personally is mohini and komolika’s bitchery, and that isn’t a good enough reason for me to watch it regularly and put up with the rest of these characters. like i’ve said before, maybe someone who hasn’t watched the original would enjoy this, but i’m mostly meh. i’ll keep up with updates and like, check in and watch an ep or two occasionally but overall, naaah.

‘My characters normally come from my personal experiences of growing up in Delhi!’ : on the 2nd anniversary of the much-acclaimed Sui Dhaaga, director Sharat Katariya reveals his formula on creating real, heart-touching characters in his films Film-maker Sharat Katariya is considered a force to reckon with in Bollywood today. He has delivered two back to back hits with Dum Laga Ke Haisha starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar and Sui Dhaaga, starring Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma and has also given audiences some of the most real, charming and endearing characters seen on screen in the recent years. From Sandhya and Prem Prakash Tiwari in Dum Laga Ke Haisha to Mamta and Mauji Sharma in Sui Dhaaga, Sharat has won the hearts of audiences with these lovely, small town people who everyone can relate to. On the 2nd anniversary of his much-acclaimed Sui Dhaaga, Sharat reveals his secret when it comes to creating such heart-touching, middle-class characters who are rooted and made in India. Sharat says, “I was born in Delhi. The characters normally come from personal experiences of growing up. All these characters whether its Prem-Sandhya or Mauji or Mamta or other characters, like their parents, their family, their neighbours, whatsoever you write or you are influenced from, are people who you come across. Most of these people in the films are the characters one has come across in life while growing up. Sharat’s films always make a subtle social commentary. Ask him if he is trying to bring a positive social change through his cinema and he says, “When you are writing you are not thinking about all these things. You write what you feel for, that's the most primary thing. Anything that you feel for has a resonance to the social environment and it automatically reflects in the script. One doesn't start from there, one starts from an incident or something that inspires or moves you, that's where is the beginning.” Sharat explains, “Dum Laga Ke Haisha’s genesis was seeing the character of a wife winning a championship. I was not thinking of social relevance or anything like that. I was thinking of a story but when you are developing characters, a woma https://www.instagram.com/p/CFxgw44AVB0/?igshid=jdp1r6hvpqup

MY CHARACTERS COME FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
Tumblr media
The Varun Dhawan-Anushka Sharma starrer Sui Dhaaga released two years ago on this day. Director Sharat Katariya, opening up on his creative process, says the characters in his films come from his personal experiences.
The 2018 release “Sui Dhaaga” was Katariya’s third directorial after “10ml Love” (2010) and “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” (2015). He also contributed as a writer in films like “Bheja Fry” (2007) and “Titli” (2015).
Katariya, who also penned dialogues in “Fan” (2016) and “Befikre” (2016), has carved his niche for crafting critically acclaimed commercial entertainers that celebrate realism, as a writer and filmmaker.
“I was born in Delhi. The characters normally come from personal experiences of growing up. All these characters whether its Prem and Sandhya (Dum Laga Ke Haisha) or Mauji and Mamta (Sui Dhaaga) or other characters, like their parents, their family, their neighbours, whatsoever you write or you are influenced from, are people who you come across,” Katariya said.
“Most of these people in the films are the characters one has come across in life while growing up,” he added.
His films always make a subtle social commentary.
Asked if he tries to bring social change through his works, Katariya said: “When you write you are not thinking about all these things. You write what you feel for, that’s the primary thing. Anything that you feel for has a resonance to the social environment and it automatically reflects in the script.”
“One doesn’t start from there, one starts from an incident or something that inspires or moves you. That’s where is the beginning,” he added.
Citing the example of “Dum Laga Ke Haisha”, Katariya says the film’s genesis was seeing the character of a wife winning a championship.
“I was not thinking of social relevance or anything like that. I was thinking of a story, but when you are developing characters, a woman is overweight and a man is thin and it’s a marriage which is not working, then automatically all the social conflicts and stigmas will automatically come into the story,” he said.
“Because the characters grow up in real environment and they have their own prejudices and conflicts and hence the social commentary.”
He added that it was the same with “Sui Dhaaga”.
“I saw a man under a tree, who was working as a tailor to make ends meet and from there it began. These are the real people, these are the real heroes. For me, he is a superhero. Superheroes are not just about flying in the air. Superheroes are also about making their ends meet in the most difficult scenarios,” the filmmaker said.
“That’s how it came in and became social commentary. The idea is never to manipulate writing in a way that it becomes that,” he summed up.

★Ali Abbas Zafar is all praises for Salman’s act in Tiger!
 Dec 11, 2017
Abbas confessed to having learned a lot from Salman and how they often get into argument over work.
Director Ali Abbas Zafar, who is the directing the second installment of 2012 hit film Ek Tha Tiger, can’t stop expressing his love for the movie’s lead actor Salman Khan, and the ease with which he romances all his leading ladies.
“Actually, anyone will fall for bhai. Woh ankh utha kar dekhte hai to sabko unsey pyaar ho jata hai (The moment he lifts his eyes and looks at you, you are surely going to fall in love with him),” he says.
Talking about the chemistry Salman and Katrina Kaif shared in real life before they broke up, the director of Tiger Zinda Hai laughs, “Main toh chata hoon phir dobara ho jaye (I wish they get in back again).” But immediately corrects himself, “Nevermind that, I keep talking rubbish sometimes!”
Praising the ease with which the actor romances all his female co-stars he quips, “Even in Sultan he shared a great chemistry with Anushka Sharma. Usually people feel Salman is a great action hero, but actually he is a real romantic hero. He has the quality of the real Indian man. His emotions and romance that he portrays are so true to his persona, there is no cheapness. He portrays romance in a sophisticated manner and not in an obnoxious manner. Thus, his chemistry with all his heroines looks great.”
On reports of Salman doing a kissing scene for the first time in this film, Abbas maintains that such stories are idle chatter. “I am following Salman’s footsteps. We are making a pure outright Hindustani film; an out-and-out a family film. Tiger Zinda Hai is a film people of all age groups can sit together and watch. There are no smooches at all. Bhai has never done it and I dare not bring it in at this point,” he affirms.
Further, clearing the air surrounding Salman’s late entry on the sets, he says the actor in fact makes his routine as per the scenes planned for the day. “Until now all my films with Salman have had a lot of action and body show. So, Salman accordingly chalks out his programme and is on the sets from 9 am. He gets up early and starts off with his workout. Undeniably, he is doing this for the film. And till 2 in the night, he stays with us to complete the shoot,” he adds.
Abbas confessed to having learned a lot from Salman and how they often get into argument over work. “Owing to his wonderful experience, we do discuss a few things and may get into an argument. But these arguments are for the betterment of the film. However, he will always like to give his best. Until he feels satisfied, he will keep asking for retakes. But when he is done he will say ‘This is the best I can give’. He is a simple actor to work with,” Ali concludes.

★ Bharat is the complete Salman Khan thali, says director Ali Abbas Zafar!
Ali Abbas Zafar speaks about his relationship with Salman Khan, the story of Bharat, and the effects to age the ever-young Salman Khan.
16 May 2019
Tumblr media
With the trailer for Bharat receiving a good response, director Ali Abbas Zafar looked confident and rested about the future of the film. During a media interaction held at Yash Raj Studios, Zafar revealed that he was looking forward to taking a break after the film's release.
"I am nervous, but also excited. It is a good feeling," he said.
Bharat marks the third time Zafar has teamed up with Salman Khan after Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). An official remake of the Korean drama An Ode To My Father (2014), Bharat features Salman Khan as the 70-year-old man whose journey runs parallel to the journey of a nation.
Zafar said, "It is a simple story of a displaced family. And a man trying to keep the promise to his father. Now what does this man do to keep that promise? That germ was very beautiful."
The film also features Katrina Kaif as the curiously named 'Madam Sir'. Speaking about her character, Zafar said, "I am very happy with the way Katrina has pulled it through, because it is very new for her. The role is of a government employee, sitting in a room, recruiting people, and then a plain Jane, wearing a sari, no makeup, and speaking in a language... it is very different from her entire career."
Bharat is set to be released in theatres on 5 June 2019. Following are excerpts from the interaction with director Ali Abbas Zafar:
You have a blend of content and commercial cinema that few contemporary directors have managed to deliver on a consistent basis. How do you manage that? Through the concept or the script?
I have always felt that there is nothing bigger than the story in a film. The story is the biggest hero. Now, when you have a good, powerful story, and when it has Salman Khan's star power attached to it, it is amplified when it reaches the audience.
The first step is to pick a story that resonates with India's people. If I am happy with that, only then do I start writing. In this case, Salman sir gave me An Ode To My Father and asked me to watch it. It is one of Korea's most famous films. I always thought I would never make a remake before this.
I realized why he gave me this film, because it had a very simple, sweet story. It is a simple story of a displaced family. And a man trying to keep the promise to his father. Now what does this man do to keep that promise? That germ was very beautiful.
I went back to Salman and said, "The core is very beautiful, but to bring it back to India, we will have to do a complete rewrite. Now, Bharat is very different from An Ode To My Father. But the inherent story is still simple."
Once I understood that, the name of the character was simple to find. A man who has gone through things from 1947 till date, has lived as much as the country. It was important to find a character name that was a parallel to the journey.
Did you find it easy to come up with the title?
The title was the most difficult. We were not finding a title in the beginning. When you think of the heroes of this country, you think of Ram, Arjun, Karna, heroes from our mythology. Then I wanted to name the character after the country because the film is about the evolution of the country as much as the character. One day when I was sitting on the bed, I realized there could not be a better title than the word Bharat.
We were all excited, and decided to check who had the title. Luckily, it was with Sajid Nadiadwala, and he is part of the Khan family in a way. It was fortunate.
Is it difficult to present Salman Khan as an aged man. What was the research process?
We did a lot of research into it. The whole film took a year and a half in scripting because each and every chapter of his life had to be carved out. Each part is like a small film. Each chapter is a product of the time it is set in.
For instance, the 1950-60 decade saw the rise of the circus culture, which is almost dead now. Mera Naam Joker was part of it. I had a struggle that when the audience meets Salman Khan for the first time, how do I portray him? That is when we came up with the idea to cast him as a daredevil in a circus.
The Maut Ka Kuan is a part of our subculture for many years, and very few films have portrayed the fascinating part of it. Then if something happens to the character here, it will affect the story differently.
Every chapter in his life is very important and showcases why he is there and what he is contributing to the main theme.
How difficult was it to create the looks for Salman Khan?
The looks were researched heavily. The early look has a Russian/Elvis Presley style going on. There was the 'Chashni' song, with Katrina Kaif, where he has the Guru Dutt moustache and a kurta-pyjama. That look was part of the era.
We went through albums of people's families. I took out my own family album, my art director brought his family album. We saw how people, our parents, grandparents evolved over a period of time.
These threads were then worked through the writing. The looks and the diction of the film also changes through time.
If you look at the appearance of Salman Khan as the old man, there is not just makeup involved. There is also prosthetics, and VFX, which took over a period of time. We did tests of him, and the entire family which was ageing with him. So, it was a long and experimental process.
Were you worried how fans might react to the change in Salman Khan's look?
I think fans relate to Salman in the context of the story. Everyone knows Salman is going to age in this film. The only thing is that when he ages, does that look like what Salman is? Fans must not feel that 'Salman is not looking like a gracefully aged Salman Khan'. I was also very clear that when you see the old man you should see the 70 years of struggle and adventure that he has lived through.
So the moustache, his tweed blazer, his walk have the experience and achievements of his life.
Is this one of the more challenging films of your career, considering it has such a huge star cast?
I think this is a very ambitious project because it covers 70 years of a man's life and you also see the parallel journey of a country. What the film is talking, at its heart, is a very relevant question. There is this line in the trailer, 'Ek insaan ki pehchaan uske parivaar se hoti hai.' It comes to the idea that the nation is one big family.
What we need is to co-exist with a lot of love and harmony, which I think are the pillars of this country. The whole idea that when you travel outside the country and people ask 'who are you?', then you say 'I am an Indian', in a nutshell, it talks about your togetherness and love. Where does this start from? It starts from the family you belong to.
The film is about the fight to keep everything together.
You have always had strong female characters in your films. Like Anushka Sharma's character in Sultan, for example. Katrina Kaif in Bharat seems to be playing the boss. How is that character?
Actually, it is as strong as in Sultan. The same here, the reason he calls her 'Madam Sir' is because she is stronger than Salman's character in the film. That equation carries forward for the next 40 years. She is always the person who tells him the reality. She can tell him, 'What you are doing might be right, but right now it is very selfish.' When this comes from a very important person, automatically the character becomes the soul of the film. Bharat is his life journey but the soul of the film is Sonu (Katrina Kaif).
I am very happy with the way Katrina has pulled it through, because it is very new for her. The role is of a government employee, sitting in a room, recruiting people, and then a plain Jane, wearing a sari, no makeup, and speaking in a language... it is very different from her entire career.
Does the box office play on your mind? Before you start a film, is the budget and its return on investment pre-decided?
On a film like this the budget is very important. I was fortunate that I had the producers to back my vision. They gave me full liberty to make what I wanted to make.
Box-office numbers, yes, at times they bother you. But if the film is good, it will automatically make bigger numbers. There is a certain expectation when Salman and I do a film together. People say they will do something that is worth their time. For two and a half hours they will get what we are promising to do. I never expected Tiger to do so much [business], but the film outdid our expectation.
How easy or difficult is it to work with Salman Khan?
There is no comfort level. With Salman Khan, the point is that he does not change. He is constant, like time. My relationship with him is more than a director-actor, more like a younger-elder brother. Our relationship is honest. If he does something that I don't like, then I don't hide it from him. If he doesn't like something I have done, then he will let me know to my face. He doesn't disguise it because I am the director and he has to be diplomatic.
That is a good thing. Somewhere that shows when we work together. I was very clear, no matter what happens, if I make a mistake, it has to be my mistake. It won't be anyone else's mistake.
Talk about the chemistry between Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the film.
We all know their chemistry, but I tend to write scenes which look real in the film. If the most difficult thing is that two people have unspoken chemistry, and you write a love scene, it starts looking fake. I try and try as many real scenes as possible so that it takes out the machinery. That has been the quest.
In the trailer, we get a glimpse of all the characters except Tabu. There is a lot of speculation about who she is playing. Is that a conscious decision on your end to keep her hidden?
It is a very conscious decision because Tabu is a very important part of the film which I want to keep hidden. Not only Tabu, there are a lot of other characters like Satish Kaushik, Kumud Mishra, Sonali Kulkarni.... See, it is a very packed film. If you watch it in the theatre, you will say there are so many stories in here. But I couldn't compress it within three minutes for the trailer.
I initially didn't want to do the trailer, because how was I going to manage to tell the journey of a man over 70 years? Luckily, we cracked a story. We decided to tell the story of an old man who has just had a great time in his life. That is how the structure of the story came through. But when you see the film, within 15-20 minutes you will feel like you have seen half the film.
There are six films of Salman Khan packed within one Bharat. There is a lot happening in the film.
Talking about the chemistry between Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, was it all natural or did you have to direct a lot of it?
You have to direct it. You have to direct every actor, pick and choose what you want and what you don't want. What is good about Bharat is that they are so different from characters written on paper.
Even when I write a character for Salman Khan, I don't write thinking this is a blueprint for a Salman Khan film. If I will write an old man, I will write it in a real way, and Salman Khan will make it his own. The same goes for Katrina's character or Kumud's character. I do this for every character, which the actors make their own.
Even though I know Tiger 3 will be played by Salman, I will not write the character thinking it is for a Salman Khan film. The story then starts getting into the clichés of what an audience expects out of such a film.

His highest-grossing releases came with a supporting role in the satire PK (2014), followed by the titular role in the sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). For his performance in the latter, he received his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Rajput went on to star in the commercially successful films Kedarnath (2018) and Chhichhore (2019).
NITI Aayog, the policy think-tank of the Indian government, signed him to promote the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP). Apart from acting and running Innsaei Ventures, Rajput was actively involved in various programmes like Sushant4Education, as a part of efforts to help young students. In June 2020, at age 34, Rajput reportedly died by suicide at his home in Bandra, Mumbai.
Early life:
Rajput was born in Patna to Krishna Kumar Singh and Usha Singh. His ancestral home is in Bihar’s Purnia district. One of his sisters, Mitu Singh, is a state-level cricketer. His mother’s death in 2002 left Rajput devastated and it was in the same year that the family moved from Patna to Delhi.
Rajput attended St. Karen’s High School in Patna and Kulachi Hansraj Model School in New Delhi. According to Rajput, he had ranked seventh in the DCE Entrance Exam in 2003, and secured admission in the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) class in Delhi College of Engineering.
He was also a National Olympiad Winner in Physics. In all, he cleared as many as 11 engineering entrance exams, including that for the Indian School of Mines. After he started participating in theatre and dance, he rarely had time for studies, resulting in several backlogs which ultimately made him leave DCE. He completed only three years of the four-year course before dropping out to pursue an acting career.
Career
Early years:
While a student at Delhi Technological University, Rajput enrolled in Shiamak Davar’s dance classes. It was only later that the idea of making a career in acting came to him, as some of his fellow students in the dance classes happened to be interested in acting and were attending Barry John’s drama classes. Influenced by them, Rajput also joined the acting classes.
Here, he found his passion for acting: “I found the experience liberating. I realised that I could communicate with the audience. I knew I wanted to do this forever.”
Within a few months of joining the dance class, Rajput was selected to be a member of Davar’s standard dance troupe. In 2005, he was chosen to be one of the group of background dancers at the 51st Filmfare Awards.
In 2006, he was part of the troupe that went to Australia to perform in the cultural program at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games. By this time, he was tired of engineering. He was happy and successful in the dance and drama classes, and decided to do what he was good at. He dropped out of engineering and devoted himself full-time to dancing and acting.
To make a break into films, Rajput moved to Mumbai and joined Nadira Babbar’s Ekjute theatre group, which he remained a part of for two and a half years. During this time, he was featured in a TV advertisement for Nestle Munch, which became famous throughout India.
Television (2008–11)
In 2008, the casting team of Balaji Telefilms saw Rajput’s personality and acting talent while he was on stage for one of Ekjute’s plays. They invited him to audition for them and Rajput landed the role of Preet Juneja in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil.
His character was killed quite early in the show, but he was such a popular character with the viewers that he was brought back for the series finale in the form of a spirit, looking on as his family celebrates after going through difficult times.
In June 2009, Rajput began starring in Pavitra Rishta as Manav Deshmukh, a serious and mature character working as a mechanic to support his family. His work in this serial received wide appreciation, and Rajput received three major television awards for best male actor and most popular actor.
This performance was his breakthrough and gave him a stepping stone into films. Initially when producer Ekta Kapoor cast him as lead for Pavitra Rishta while playing the parallel lead in Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Zee TV did not accept him. However, Kapoor convinced them to accept him.
In May 2010, Rajput joined the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha 2. He had already proven his acting talents by winning awards for his performance in Pavitra Rishta, and he wanted to establish that he had good dancing skills and could be trained further.
In Zara Nachke Dikha, Rajput was a part of the Mast Kalandar Boys Team. He did the shooting for both Pavitra Rishta and Zara Nachke Dikha 2 at the same time. On the Mother’s Day special episode, his team dedicated a performance to his mother, who had died in 2002.
In December 2010, Rajput participated in another dance-based reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4, where he was paired with choreographer Shampa Sonthalia.
In October 2011, Rajput decided to quit Pavitra Rishta to pursue a filmmaking course abroad, and in November 2011, Rajput quit the series and was replaced by Hiten Tejwani. However, in October 2014, Tejwani paved way for Rajput who appeared in the final episode aired on 25 October 2014 as Manav.
Film career (2013–20)
Rajput auditioned for Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! and was selected to play one of the three leads, along with Rajkumar Rao and Amit Sadh. Based on the Chetan Bhagat novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life, the film proved to be a critical and commercial success.
His portrayal of Ishaan Bhatt, an ex-district level cricketer who is a victim of politics in the cricketing selection fraternity, was praised. Critic Rajeev Masand wrote: “…it’s Sushant Singh Rajput, making his film debut as Ishaan, who it’s hard to take your eyes off. The actor has an indescribable presence and it’s clear from his confidence and distinct likeability that a star is born.
His second movie was Shuddh Desi Romance, alongside Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor. Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film deals with the subject of live-in relationships and was completely filmed in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama praised Rajput’s performance, saying: “After leaving a tremendous impression in his first Hindi outing, Sushant Singh Rajput… brings a lot of freshness with his unpretentious and spontaneous act.” Sukanya Verma from Rediff stated: “After a dynamic debut in Kai Po Che!, Rajput channelises his abundant energy to convey the childlike ineptitude of a man who wears his heart on a sleeve.
“Sushant’s next role was in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2014 film PK. Although his role was relatively minor, the film gave him the opportunity to work with Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma. Upon its release, the film proved to be the one of the highest-grossing Indian films.
In 2015, Rajput’s sole release was Dibakar Banerjee’s mystery thriller Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015), in which he portrayed detective Byomkesh Bakshi, created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The film was produced jointly by Yash Raj Films and Banerjee’s own film production company Dibakar Banerjee Productions. Set in Kolkata in the 1940s, the film was released on 3 April 2015
In 2016, he appeared in Neeraj Pandey’s biographical sports film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, in lead role of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The film was a critical and commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2016. Rajput’s performance was widely praised by critics and earned him his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
In 2017, he appeared in Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta, co-starring Kriti Sanon.
In 2018, he appeared in Kedarnath, a love story set in the backdrop of the 2013 floods in Uttarakhand, co-starring Sara Ali Khan. In this film he played the role of Mansoor Khan, a Kashmiri young man.
In 2019, he appeared in Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya opposite Bhumi Pednekar. He appeared in Nitesh Tiwari’s Chhichhore opposite Shraddha Kapoor that released on 6 September 2019. Later that year, he starred in Drive alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, which was released on Netflix.
In 2020, he starred in Mukesh Chhabra’s remake of The Fault in Our Stars titled Dil Bechara. The film was slated to be released in May of that year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Projects cancelled
In 2016, it was announced that Rajput would appear in two films Chanda Mama Door Ke a science-fiction space film, along with R. Madhavan and Takadum a musical drama, opposite Irfan Khan and Parineeti Chopra was supposed to be directed by Homi Adajania. He later withdrew from the former, citing date conflicts. He was also set to essay 12 real-life characters, including political strategist Chanakya, poet Rabindranath Tagore and former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam, in a biopic series on Stories of India
