The new Netflix movie MIXTAPE is quite the movie. As I worked at a record store 1993-1999, the movie really works for me. One of the plot points of the movie is that the band The Quick was difficult to find. 22 years later you don't have to find some lost record, you can buy the Mp3s on Amazon & places. Cupid (2009) did a similar thing w/ the 45 of Otis Redding's You Left The Water Running in S01E06 Left Of The Dial. Power pop band Pointed Sticks we're equally difficult to find in the 90's. Proto-emo double feature! Embrace & Rites of Spring - s/t . So much for a running start to my summer vacation. I got sick on the second day and am just recovering now. Tonsillitis is balls. . But what’s totally not balls is Fugazi. In fact, they’re the total opposite of this definition of balls. . And it’s been a mini-mission of mine to find the debut albums by the two bands that would break up after one LP and eventually come together as Fugazi; the two bands that directly preceded Fugazi but gave a sneak preview of a legendary future sound; I’m talking about Ian Mackaye’s Embrace and Guy Picciotto’s Rites of Spring of course. . And you know what? I didn’t give up hope of a “physical” find (as in, I didn’t just go on Discogs and order these babies home). I was patient boy! I waited I waited I waited! Then it happened, right in my own neighborhood (@petsoundsrecords)! Mission complete! . It was a glorious moment, topped by the fact I didn’t have to spend a fortune on them. No disrespect to Discogs (I happily use that marketplace), but this is one of the main reasons why I collect records. For these discovery moments, in a physical record store. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. They were BOTH there in the new arrival bins of the second hand section. Just waiting for me... . Anyway. Long story short. Here are the other records we picked up from both Recycled Records and Antiques & Treasures. We picked up this Van Halen record from Antiques & Treasures for Rays fathers birthday. When this record came out he was in high school but he never picked it up even though he really wanted it. Although, he did buy every iteration of this album on recorded audio since. Started from the cassettes, CD's, MP3's, and now he's finally been united with a vinyl record version! ZZ Top's Eliminator was bought up at Recycled Records as a gift from reno to Rays father; a souvenir from a great record shop. Today I rescued a few CDs from a terrible fate in a bargain bin. This must be how normal people feel when they go to an animal shelter. Included: Black Sabbath - 13; Black Label Society - Catacombs of the Black Vatican; and Opeth - Pale Communion. 
I’d never listened to an Opeth song before today, although I was vaguely aware of the band’s existence. This album was not what I was expecting, as somehow I came under to understand that Opeth was a death metal band. Pale Communion sounds like a prog rock record from the 70s. I did enjoy it, though. What’s the next Opeth album I should try?
