Alanik: What are your roles?
Jorgen: I'm the flightleader, and I'm cytonic
Rig: I'm an engineer, and familiar with some cytonic systems
FM: I'm the slug welfare specialist
Alanik: That's...different
Jorgen: Trust us, she's our most important member

ReDawn revelation
Did Alanik really just imply that Tolkien preserved some of her people's language in the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit?!

Title: Skyward
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2018
Genres: fiction, science fiction, fantasy, adventure, dystopia
Blurb: Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realises this dream might be possible...assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. This ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

September Wrap Up--
Tumblr media
Yes, the bare shelves DO mean it's almost time for my husband and I to finally move out of our apartment. And I would have thought my distraction with going under contract for a house would mean that I couldn't focus enough to finish anything. But I've still somehow managed to read 13 books in the month of September. It's not the worst reading month I've had this year, but it's definitely the least I've read over the past 5 months. Given how spacey I was for a full week there, I'll take it.
Comics/Graphic Novels-- 1. Moonstruck, Vol. 2: Some Enchanted Evening by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle (Library)--3.25 stars.
2. Moonstruck, Vol. 3: Troubled Waters by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle (Library)--3 stars.
Novellas/Short Stories-- 1. ReDawn by Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson--3.75 stars (original rating).
2. The Serpent by Claire North--2.75 stars.
3. The Thief by Claire North--2.5 stars.
4. The Master by Claire North--2.5 stars.
Novels-- 1. The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu (NetGalley)--3.75 stars.
2. Iced Out by Veronica Eden (Kindle)--2.5 stars.
3. System Collapse by Martha Wells (NetGalley)--4 stars.
4. The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynn Barnes--4 stars.
5. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh--3.75 stars (original rating).
6. In These Hallowed Halls edited by Marie O'Regan and Paul Kane--3.17 stars (averaged)
7. Suddenly A Murder by Lauren Muñoz-- 3 stars.
Averaged: 3.22 stars for the month of September. I'm not sure how next month is going to shake out with the moving and volume of rereads vs. new reads but I'm not really too disappointed with how this month turned out.

List of Cytoverse characters and why I identify with and/or admire them (in no particular order)
FM - has a very critical mentality towards the world, politics, and sociology. Desires to be the source of strength that others look up to. Loves music. Gets along well with animals. Good in diplomatic situations.
Jorgen - craves constant control, leads by default and expects to be respected in that role, very concrete and systematic approach to learning new things
Alanik - grew up in a relatively peaceful variant of oppression, has not experienced the full harshness of the Superiority's wrath. Nevertheless tries to push for revolution against the status quo and full recognition in a new political system.
Arturo - comes from a rich background and largely rejects it in favor of what he feels is right. Abandoned by loved ones who could not accept his difference in ideals and practices.
Rig - takes joy in tinkering and figuring out how things work. Loves to talk about his current projects and obsessions. Admires the strength of others before crisis and tends to idealize it. Tends towards reclusivity.
Spensa - very straightforward, lacks social tact, a love for mythology and stories, can sometimes view conscience as something that gets in the way, makes decisions independently, places herself outside the chain of command, a bit of a social outcast, distinguishes herself through exemplary performance despite essentially having hacks
Kimmalyn - mild-mannered, doesn't swear, tries to treat everyone with kindness, queer, religious, presents her wisdom through the lens of religion, a sucker for desserts
Hurl - all-or-nothing winner mentality.
Sadie - strong admiration for those with qualities she wishes to emulate. Tries (not necessarily well) to copy these attributes.

Sooo... I... may have gotten into another book series.
Call sign: Spin
This is Spensa Nightshade, the main character of the Skyward book series by Brandon Sanderson, a sci-fi series. Best known for her spicy attitude and incredible flying skills... and for her father mostly known for being a coward, but we don't talk about that
Never thought I would actually find a scifi series that I can actually get into, that isn't Star Trek. I can finally get away from the space commies! lmao

I wish we got to see more of Kimmalyn being a lesbian :( She's so cute and I bet she's hilarious with her girlfriend, but all we got was the tiniest crumb. Never met the girl or even gave her a name, just a little "she wanted to see her girlfriend again"-ish line, and that was it.
When she was asked in ReDawn if she had a boyfriend and she panicked and just said "Bless your stars" I immediately pegged her as gay, and a few books later we just get that tiny line that says she has a girlfriend, and move on. We get to see most of the other attached characters being attached, give me Kimmalyn's girlfriend and let's see how she gets on with Skyward flight! I want to see it!!! 😭😭😭

Something something in Chant II (Mitchell Recording) Persephone says she “let [Hades] lay [her] in the dirt” following other implications in the musical that to enter Hadestown is to die. Something something Persephone retains a connection to the red Orpheus carries throughout the musical, and is often also connected to the redawning of the sun whenever she returns above. Something something Persephone but phoenix imagery. I am tapping the microphone. Persephone dressed in a gown as black as ashes in the time she spends underground. Can anyone hear me.
