venus if she was awesome

speedpaint and more thoughts under the cut

venus has always been one of my favorite characters, though i feel her design is pretty underwhelming with a lot of wasted potential. this is kind of a redesign, kind of my own personal headcannon, and kind of how i imagined venus in my head as a kid.

this is supposed to be my version of g1 venus, more similar in facial features and keeping the straight hair. i absolutely love her new hair and face in g3 but im hesitant to call the new outfit an improvement. both g1s outfit and g3s outfit are bad in their own ways. i dont want it to seem like im shitting on the new design. again i think the face sculpts, hair, and body types of g3 are so awesome. its great to see more diversity being included in the designs. i just decided to go with g1 venuses look because thats the venus i grew up with

i definitely took some inspiration from g3s outfit for this design. i like the idea of it but the execution is just not great, not to say her original outfit is any better. i feel like out of all of tge original monsters she was the one with the most waisted potential. i love her personality and the abilities she has but the way she was styled has always bothered me.

in the movies shes described as “eco-punk” which is SUCH a cool style to go with a plant monster character. i just feel like the “punk” in “eco-punk” was never really represented in her outfits. i personally love punk music and clothing; ive been an active member in my local diy scene for many years and i love seeing all the outfits people put together.

i thought i would give her an outfit that shows off a couple of my personal favorite staples of punk style. big chunky leather boots with lots of straps and buckles. kept the shoe mouths from the original because they cool as hell. lots of leather, studs, spikes. i gave her denim cutoff shorts inspired by her gen 3 outfit, same with the torn black top. punk style has a big focus on comfort, practicality, and making things yourself. i imagine she cut a pair of old pants into shorts, roughly cut her “undead kennedys”band shirt tank into a crop top, and probably repurposed the remaining fabric. i also totally didnt draw this whole thing as an excuse to use that pun. i included asymmetrical leg accessories, with one fishnet stocking and one torn up sock. i also feel like she repurposed these, continuing to wear her old torn up socks instead of just throwing them out. i gave her a big chunky studded belt matching one of her cuffs with a recycling symbol belt buckle. i feel like it communicates an important aspect of her personality just at a glance, plus i just love big belt buckles. lastly i added piercings because 1. theyre cool and 2. i for some reason remembered her having an eyebrow piercing but i guess she never had one.

i mostly kept her body and hair the same. changed her ears and hair color slightly but thats just personal preference. i decided to make the vines on her body look more like tattoos instead of being 3d. i imagine she can make them grow into real vines, but when shes not using her powers theyre just flat against her skin. gave her a facial expression that made her look a little more unhinged. she might only do things for the good of the earth but she can still mind control people at will.

i wish i leaned a little bit more into the plant theming but im overall still super happy with how this came out. maybe ill made more monster high redesigns in the future

OC-Tober 4: Re-design

or one of my most drastic redesigns I've done yet. Meet, Rocket!

I'll explain why the change was this huge later on in this post

also hey! Another new pic!

An aerial combat android who fought during the rift era (a war between earth and the demon world that ensued when the two merged). Years afterwards, she's long retired from demon hunting to run a farm for a small village.

Her original design and story was drastically different...

In her original story, Rocket was a human-turned fighting robot who gave up her humanity to be part of a Kaiju fighting defense team & was supposed to be the new girl learning the ropes.

The thing is, I still really like her old design, but the main reason I decided to change it was due to putting her in a different OC universe. I got detatched from the original project idea. A longer thread on that can be found on my website (Magia Mechanica - Thoughts on a Canned Project).

But for the complete overhaul, it was because I felt the design didn't fit the current tone of the story with it being slightly more grounded & having a 'dark sci-fantasy' tone upfront. The story change was after experimenting w/writing a more experienced version of her in a private story (it's private since it was something I wrote to work through some personal stuff)

For some of the notable changes, I changed her color-scheme since I wanted to reserve unnatural android skin-tones to specific characters in this universe, & the main character of the story at the time was pink, so blue for more variation. I made her plating more rugged & added a scar to her face to represent her now being a very old android who's been through years of combat. She's also been given a proper buster, and has been made slightly bulkier as I'd imagine she'd need more power cells to fuel both her ability to fly & use said buster

Some Thoughts!

Man, I haven’t done a post like this in a while! But I figured I might as well before I work on one of my numerous WIPs XD

—So, I’ve been back on a Zula Patrol kick like you wouldn’t believe. Though that should be obvious with all the memes I’ve been making, haha! I promise this won’t become a Zula Patrol only blog, haha!

—I’ll be working on building my graphic design/editing skills so I can properly redesign my blogs ^^ You can expect a few graphics throughout the month! :)

—Chapter 4 of The Zula Patrol: Dreamscape Crusade Remastered is also coming along pretty nicely. I’ve been enjoying adding the layers of mystery and horror to the world that Multo ends up in. Oh, and a couple of new characters are making their appearance, too. And that’s all I’m going to say about the subject!

—I’ve also been steadily working on Love Language for the last couple of months. I thought FOR SURE that I’d be posting its first chapter by the end of the month, but life happened—not to mention that I keep coming up with MORE headcanons for Multo and Zeeter that I just have to write down and put in the story. XD Also, the story’s grown to the point where I had to break it up into FIVE chapters, now, with the fifth being the actual conclusion. This story’s been so fun to work on, and I hope you’ll all enjoy it when I finally publish it.

—That being said, I did have a few insecurities regarding the writing of Love Language. I wondered if anybody would actually read this story since 1. ZP isn’t a very well-known cartoon, and 2. Even for rarepair standards, Multo/Zeeter sure seems like it came out of left field. And for about a few weeks, I did leave it alone, out of worry that nobody would read it. But then I came across posts in my feed that said that it’s important to write the stories that you’d like to read, even if they don’t get any readership, because telling your story is what matters. I’ve dealt with this a lot since writing all of my stories, namely my Zula Patrol series. And while I struggle with it occasionally, I’m not going to let that whole “nobody will probably read this” mentality stop me from writing about these goofy aliens, and my favorite opposites-attract ship, of which I’m the sole captain.

—While I’ve been working on Blazin’ Trails content off and on, I’m having a deuce of a time trying to work on the final chapter of the original BT. I’ll literally sit down and open the document, looking for something to leap out at me and inspire me to work…but nothing’s working. And I really want to get things started with Blazin’ Trails Redux as well…*sigh*

—As for Super Why stuff, I’m looking forward to seeing the new shorts that are debuting next month! I got to see the first short, and it’s adorable. And I also can’t wait to see more of Power Paige in action! I just really hope that Woofster and Alpha Pig aren’t written out of the show :(

—Speaking of PBS Kids stuff…I kinda sorta got back into both WordGirl and Arthur. GOD, I feel old! And now, I’m half-tempted to have WG guest star in SRBA like Santiago will. The SRBA ‘verse? More like Into the Reader-verse, LOL XD

—Sodor Magic Crusaders MAY be getting an update in the near future. I thought about working on it for the first time in months, and I remembered that I only have a few episodes left until I can get to write the second season.

—Slowly but surely getting back into Honkai Impact 3rd. I still haven’t gotten a chance to watch the part 2 trailer, but it looks like it’s gonna be interesting!

—One thing’s for sure. Power Paige will definitely appear in the SRBA ‘verse. I just have to figure out what her backstory would be as well as her powers and what kind of fighting style she’d have. I know for sure it won’t be a sword—we already have four sword fighters in SRBA thus far (Super Why, Presto, Muse and Jackson).

—In Super Why news, I HAVE been working on the fifth chapter bit by bit, and I’d like to say that it’s about 65% finished. I don’t think it’ll be quite as long as the last update, but I don’t want to speak too soon ^^;

—I haven’t drawn anime in ages, not since I first started uploading on DeviantArt. And I admit, the pic that I’m going to post of Usagi isn’t the best..but you know what? Screw it! The only way I can improve is to practice, even if it’s wonky or incorrect! ^^

Hey guys! So... Bit of a nerd talk time where I go about one of my less used muses, I guess

And probably one most people don't expect me to have, I guess.

Or at least, the franchise related to them. Yeah , I'm talking about Power Rangers. Because I be a big ass nerd, and new issues of the comic have come out reminding me of an old post I made a while ago.

So, ever since 2016, we have had an ongoing series of Power Rangers comics done by BOOM! Studios and they are great. Amazing even. Over 150 issues over all, when you combine every run and spin off and such. And outside a few writing hiccups... They've been glorious.

So, one thing the comics have always had and been amazing with.... Are OC Ranger designs

And we've had a lot.

So I thought I'd go through them a bit to show them off and talk about them

So first off... We have their first original Ranger, Lord Drakkon

This suitbis glorious. Lord Drakkon as a character is an evil future version of Tommy Oliver, one who fused the powers of the Green Dragon coin and the White Tiger. And the fusion of their designs works oh so wonderfully well~!

And also, yes. They did make a live action version of the suit. And yes, JDF did wear it, for a live action trailer for the Shattered Grid event that really showed off Drakkon and how dangerous he was

In his world he defeated the Rangers and ruled his world. Killing Billy and stole their powers, seperating the powers across his army to make... Well a literal army of rangers. But not gonna go into them because they are just armoured variants of ranger suits

However Drakkon did evolve three times over the Shattered Grid event

Evolution 1 adding the powers of the Samurai Dangers and (if I remember correctly) the Black Dino Thunder ranger to his form.

And the samurai style real fits.

But following this came....

Evolution II. Using the Zero Powers and several other mophers. The black overtaking everything else just looks so gorgeous, like the corruption of the rangers powers seeping through his very body

Until finally....

Oh what can I SAY about this suit?!

The black, grey, gold and red colour scheme being so beautiful?!

The badass cape?!

The evolved armour and subtle detailing?!

10/10!

Delicious~!

But beyond him.... We have my muse

Ranger Slayer

While most of you who see my Muses sees the Pink MMPR Ranger, Kimberly, you are mostly right

But only mostly. She is only an option for her

Because my muse is ACTUALLY the Ranger Slayer!

An alternative version of Kim, from Drakkon's world. Won't go into too much detail because she's gonna get a solo post. Long story short, she was mind controlled into being Drakkon's assassin. And time travel/multiverse shinanigans, she was freed

But for now.... Look at this DESIGN~!

The white/ black inverse, along black the focus colour, and so much more

Oooh~!!!

Also the extra armour to mimick hear worn by actual archers?

Amazing!

Also... Something about the coloured palms does it for me, lol

Portable part of why I like the Pokémon Salazzel, hehe.

But yeah, Ranger Slayer also further evolved when she eventually returning to her home world. While not a power up, she did her a redesigned suit to show she was now the queen of the world with Drakkon gone

This one, I'm not a big fan of. But I love the slight phoenix motif it has

That's also not the only power up/alternate power set Kim had in the comics

Introducing... The All-New Power Rangers!

Okay, so, long story short. These are basically budget powers that Kim made. Set after she left in season 3, she had enough of a connection to make boarderline bootleg powers to help save her family from a fish man invasion in France

Because of their almost fake nature, and their powers being drawn from Kim, all the rangers have a very 'street' look, as well as some pink

And I love it, again!

Like, it isn't my favourite, but... It works.

It's a cool 'street level' redesign, if that makes sense

....

And I realise I have no space for any more posts

This one is MUCH newer. Like, three issues ago.

The Zed Ranger

Zedd and the rangers where forced to team up not too long ago, and Zedd hard that as a chance to steal the Rangers tech. Making himself a Morpher for an emergency

An emergency like when Rita returns, super charged, and almost kills him. Leading to a three way war between him, the Rangers and Rita

And do I have to EXPLAIN why this is awesome, from a story or design aspect?!

KH OC Week Day 1 Part 1 - (Re)Introductions

Hello again! I’m back with my Scala Survivors AU OCs, although they and the AU as a whole have had some changes since last year’s entries and the Dark Road finale. (RIP 75% of my DR era headcanons lol, but I did mostly enjoy how the story played out in canon.)

Major spoilers for Dark Road ahead (for this post and the rest of my entries this week)!

The premise of this AU: Due to the meddling of a certain dark witch, the events of Dark Road played out a little differently in this worldline. TL;DR - Hermod, Urd, Vor, Vidar, Hoder, and Bragi survived Baldr’s rampage. With the exception of “Bragi” (as Luxu had to wait a while to finally swap vessels for Plot Reasons™), they lived all the way to the BBS era where they’ve taken on apprentices just like Eraqus and Xehanort. My OCs for this week are said apprentices.

(Fair Warning: This is not a fix-it AU, this is a “break more things” AU. Just throwing it out there now.)

We’ll start with the two characters that underwent the least amount of changes since the finale dropped:

Name: Sophia

Gender: Female (She/Her)

Age: 19 years old during the events of BBS

Biggest changes: Sophia got a redesigned keyblade with a new name and new outfits, but not that much has changed for her story-wise. Her post-timeskip design now includes matching scars with Brandr and Virdandi (but in different places for each of them) due to the attack in Traverse Town. (To go along with the emotional scarring, of course!)

Name: Ferrum

Gender: Male (He/Him)

See his art and full character profile here. (He’s gone by the time of BBS, but he haunts the narrative like it’s his job.)

Biggest changes: Besides aging up by two years, Ferrum also made it out of the rewrite relatively unscathed. Most of his changes happened as a result of fleshing out his backstory and motivation for being a keyblade wielder, as well as adding a “supporting cast” for him in the period of time before Brandr and Virdandi were apprentices.

Speaking of those two, of course my two OC fankids were the most affected by the post-DR rewrite, especially:

Name: Brandr

Gender: Male (He/Him)

Age: 18 years old during the events of BBS

Biggest changes: Oh boy. Obviously my “Bragi is just a red herring because giving him a name that’s only one letter off from Braig is way too obvious, even for Nomura” theory didn’t really pan out. (At least his cool but anachronistic jacket makes a lot more sense now.) With the timeline established by the events of DR, a lot of plot contrivances would have to occur for Brandr to exist at all now… but I did it anyway!

In his new backstory, Brandr is being raised by his single mother (a free spirit who’s into older men) and Bragi/Luxu isn’t a presence in his life at all. In fact, Luxu has no idea Brandr even exists due to being distracted by the previously mentioned Plot Reasons™ and he didn’t think to check up on the gorgeous lady from Scala that he’d had a brief fling with before finally swapping vessels.

If he had known about Brandr, Luxu would be freaked out to discover that his son has developed the same rare power that the Master of Masters had. Whether due to centuries of Luxu’s body-swapping doing weird things to his genes or just a cruel twist of cosmic irony, Brandr has the ability to glimpse visions of the future. Except Brandr doesn’t have the same level of control over his powers as the MoM and the uncontrollable visions that resulted from this socially ostracized him from most of his homeworld and basically ruined his childhood until Master Urd taught him how to (mostly) manage his condition.

Brandr’s driving motivation as a character has also changed pre and post-timeskip. When he meets Sophia, his greatest desire is social acceptance. After the events in Traverse Town, his main goal is to learn how to change the terrible futures he foresees for himself and his friends. Destiny doesn’t really work like that though. And the power of foresight alone doesn’t make one a competent chessmaster…

Design-wise, pre-timeskip Brandr has clothing more appropriate for the world and time period he lives in instead of t-shirts and sweatpants. I wanted to keep the anachronistic clothing concept for his post-timeskip look, but this time he’s dressed like someone from a past era. Due to Brandr’s newfound interest in history (as the past is the only time period he can only experience through books), Sophia and Virdandi (but mostly Sophia) got him a coat in the style of Scala’s Gothic era for his eighteenth birthday. He might’ve cried a little.

(And that’s my in-universe justification for why he’s dressed like a knockoff Bloodborne cosplayer lol.)

Brandr’s keyblade has been slightly redesigned, with the most important new detail being the Gazing Eye on the token. Brandr might not know who the eye belongs to but he knows they’re watching him, so Virdandi’s dad made him a metal cover in the shape of an apple to encase the end of the keychain.

Name: Virdandi

Gender: Gender: Female (She/Her)

Age: 17 years old during the events of BBS

Biggest changes: Virdandi’s story also has a lot of notable differences compared to the previous year. Due to Dark Road using the previous name for one of the upperclassmen, Virdandi’s dad is now named Magni. (Sigyn, who is now Virdandi’s little sister instead of Brandr’s, doesn’t need a name change because the Norse mythological figure she’s named after is different from Sigrun I think?) Neither he nor Urd get a statue this time due to the surviving keyblade wielders trying to cover up the details of the “Calamity” and Baldr’s corruption. (But that’s a story for another time.)

Speaking of Virdandi’s parents, due to the canon timeline established between the events of DR and BBS, the only reason Virdandi exists at all (since Urd should be old enough to be a grandmother by the time her daughter is born) is because of a helpful scientist who owed Urd a favor after she saved her from an experiment gone terribly wrong. Virdandi is biologically Urd and Magni’s daughter, just grown in a tank for the first nine months of her existence. (She’s mostly just sad she didn’t get any superpowers from it.)

Aside from Sigyn, Virdandi also took on Brandr’s burden of expectations from having a Keyblade Master as a parent and the strained parent-child relationship resulting from that. In Virdandi and Urd’s case, however, the issue is that Virdandi actually wants to be a keyblade wielder but Urd doesn’t have time to train her because she’s busy trying to help Brandr manage his powers. Virdandi’s reaction to this lack of attention from her mother is to act out, causing issues with not only Urd but Hoder as well until another keyblade master steps in.

With Bragi out of the picture due to the Dark Road finale reveal, Vidar is now Virdandi’s keyblade master (mostly because I thought it’d be interesting to see what would happen if he lived to face the consequences of his actions in DR). Their relationship is a lot less antagonistic because Virdandi admires him for having wandered the worlds as a Seeker and Vidar has the patience to deal with Virdandi’s idiosyncrasies and shut down any of her temper tantrums.

Aside from the story additions, Virdandi also got a new keyblade design and a different post-timeskip haircut. She adopted Urd’s weird turtleneck thing into her post-timeskip outfit as a sign of their relationship improving.

This post has been written by two rottmnt fans, Char (@pepperimps01 ) and Meg (@nostalgiaruinedme ). We wrote separate parts of it and sometimes use "I", but you can safely assume these "I"s stand for both of us.

Warning for spoilers btw.

Rise of the TMNT is all about changes, from simple things like adding mystic powers to changing up the species of the turtles. It's so great and so wonderful, and to me felt like it could bring old and new fans together. Sure, not everyone liked the changes, but there seemed to be an overwhelming positive response.

Cassandra Jones was one of those changes. For a while, not many people suspected the Foot Recruit would be the new incarnation of Casey. It's easy to see why. One, she was a girl, a WOC, and a member of the Foot Clan. Still there were hints throughout the two seasons and the chaotic energy that past Casey Jones have had really made her connected to them, while still being unique.

The big reveal happened. Cassandra was in fact the new Casey Jones. I, like many others, was ecstatic. A POC, female Casey Jones with a badass fighting style and a shaved head ready to be redeemed and join the good side. I couldn't wait for her to appear in the movie, to develop her story as she truly became a member of the team.

Then...the Rise movie trailer dropped.

Instead of Cass, we got a new Casey. A generic guy Casey from the future. There was no Cassandra. Not even a mention. It was like she never existed. And I'm angry. I'm hurt.

Many people in the Rise fandom have been excited over the new Casey, and have been arguing non stop against anyone who has been pointing out the flaws. Here, I'll be covering why each argument does not fix what the new movie has done to Cassandra Jones.

Argument #1: "He's probably her son/grandson"

Sadly, this doesn't change much. The problem is that this new Casey is taking over the role of Casey Jones in the movie and looks to be the main character (excluding the turtles obviously). Female characters have been pushed aside for male ones throughout all of history and this is no exception. I'm so tired of female characters being important because their kids or descendants are going to be important. That's blatant sexism and fixes absolutely nothing.

This IS a misogyny issue.

Argument #2: "He's not erasing her - there'll just be two Caseys now!"

But that's still an issue. When Rise first made Casey Jones Cassandra Jones, they were doing something new and different (just like their redesigns of the turtles and April). So many people were pissed the new Casey was a woman, and a woman of color at that. But Rise stood their ground and kept her as Casey Jones and it was beautiful! They made an amazing redesign of Casey that was so different and unique and had an amazing backstory and look, while still keeping the things that made Casey Jones "Casey Jones" (her impulsiveness, fighting ability, willingness to stand up for what she cared about, etc). She was an amazing representation for girls of all ages: she had a shaved head! She was badass! She was a woc! She showed little girls that they could still be Casey Jones too even if they werent a skinny or muscular white guy like all past Caseys have been.

They undid all of that progress by adding in a second male Casey Jones who looks, sounds, and acts exactly like his predecessors. The main 6 in the movie are the turtles, April, and the new, male Casey Jones. If you compare him and Cassandra, it is obvious who people are going to consider the "real Casey''.

Now, when people are upset there's a female Casey Jones, we can't tell them "well that's just who Casey is in this universe". Because there's two. And one is exactly the character everyone wanted Casey Jones to be.

Argument #2.5: "And he'll probably leave afterwards"

So? The damage is still done. New Casey Jones is established in the universe. New Casey Jones took the main role of the 6th member of the team instead of the Casey Jones we already had.

And, let's be real: if Cassandra Jones was a male to start with, they NEVER would have made a new Casey Jones. They'd have no reason to. They'd NEVER have replaced her to begin with.

Argument #3: "Andy said to wait and see!!!"

You know what? Fair. Maybe Andy, the NFT guy knows what's best. Maybe he, Ant and the crew have big plans for Cassandra that we haven't seen yet. Heck, she could have a big surprise reveal. This doesn't really solve the other two complaints we've had though.

Furthermore, why even have this build up of a girl Casey and then backtrack and bring Future Casey in anyway? What's even the point? It's not like his design is clever at all, or his backstory, considering we have had multiple time traveling characters (Renet, Fugitoid) that could have filled this role just fine.

It seems like poor planning at best, and lazy writing at worst.

Argument #4: "We shouldn't judge based on a trailer"

I like to keep an open mind whenever I watch things, and you're right, judging by a trailer alone is usually not the way to go. But this trailer told us a lot, mainly that this new Future "Casey" is the driving point of the story, the person who brings the plot into motion. It's hard not to feel discouraged.

The point is this: no matter what they do in the movie, the trailer alone reveals how much they've hurt Cassandra Jones' character. Short of undoing the entire movie (or making New Casey a trans guy who used to be Cassandra), the damage is done. I can't think of a single thing they could do with either character to fix this. His existence is the problem.

In conclusion… This movie had so much potential, but destroying Cassandra Jones' character is not helping it at all. It puts a bad taste in my mouth every time I think about it now. And that's so upsetting, because so many of us have been waiting for this movie for years!

Even if the new Casey Jones is the most interesting and loveable character in the franchise, his mere existence destroys another character completely. I don't see a single way this can be fixed… and that's really sad.

Motor Replacement

Time for another model railroad project! The victim this time is this little Kato N-gauge tram:

Kato just calls these DUEWAG tram and reissues them every now and then with different liveries (this one features Cologne). Technically, they’re Aufbau- or Verbandwagen, two types that were built by a number of companies in post-war Germany, sometimes on the basis of older vehicles, sometimes new. Kato’s model is relatively cheap and based around their two-axle chassis that is also used in their pocket line trains, and it’s okay at best. No flywheel, old motor, just two wheels for power pickup, you can’t really expect much here.

Recently, Kato introduced a completely redesigned version of this chassis, with a tiny coreless motor with a flywheel. The difference is night and day: These new trains run perfectly even at low speed and are incredibly quiet and smooth. Kato sells replacement chassis, and if you have any pocket line train from them, you should really consider buying it, even if DCC installation is a big hassle there.

Sadly they don’t sell a tram version of the replacement chassis yet (they do sell exactly one tram with the new chassis), and since all the plastic parts were completely redesigned, you can’t fit the new mechanics into the old chassis.

So I decided to convert this to a coreless motor myself. A coreless motor is a DC electric motor where the spinning part does not contain an iron core, which decreases weight and undesirable magnetic effects. They used to be very expensive to manufacture, and you could only find them in the most expensive model trains, or in super-expensive conversion kits. A motor by brands such as Faulhaber or Maxon can easily cost 50-100€.

But these days, you can also find really cheap tiny coreless motors for like 20€ or less. I’m certain they’re not as good as the brand name ones, but they’re much more attractive. I bought mine from micromotor.eu (via a big green retailer), but there are plenty of other sites available as well.

There’s notably no flywheel here; the tiniest motor they sell with shafts on both end, like the original, is the 0816D, which stands for 8 mm diameter, 16 mm length (both approximately) and dual outputs, and that makes it as long as the original. There’s no space for a flywheel, sadly.

To fit the motor into the train, I designed an adapter that would give it the right size, and then 3D printed it (not myself, I use Shapeways for that).

I stole that idea from micromotor.eu, which sell kits with such adapters for many different types of trains, but sadly not this one (yet). The motor is glued into the adapter with superglue, through the hole in the adapter. It needs to be wired up manually, but since I’m running DCC, that’s literally no change; I just added some longer leads here.

So, how does it all work? Well, I’d show you, but apparently I can’t insert a video in the middle of a post and I’m not changing the post type now and loosing all formatting. What I can tell you is that it runs at all, which makes me happy.

The downside is that I don’t have the relative positioning between the cogs on the wheels and the worm gears perfect, so the result is that it can be loud at times (and that is after putting a lot of cardboard shims in there). Also, the lack of flywheel is really noticeable. Power pickup remains as poor as ever, and the tram remains very sensitive to dirt on the track.

Overall, the result is… pretty much useless, actually; it was a lot of effort to get back to about the same behaviour as before. On the other hand, I had fun and learned things, so it isn’t all bleak. But still, I cannot recommend you try this yourself.

..That’s.. That’s a good point.

I’ve noticed recently that I’ve been trying very hard to get all these projects done, but I just cant seem to get past this writers/artist block.. Ingo and Emmet part 3, my FNAF AU, the Rosalina comic.. all of it has just felt really draining. I think its because I’m turning these projects into work, instead of a fun hobby.

I actually was working on the Petey Piranha comic last night, but I just couldn’t get past the sketching stage. So I took a break to draw what ever I wanted and.. I had a lot of fun.

I think I’ve overwhelmed myself thinking I have to do all these projects and get them done quickly for.. what ever reason. And its made art really draining.

I think I’m gonna take all of my projects (aside from my FNAF AU) and just. Put them on the shelf for now. I’ll draw them if I ever feel like it.

I had planned that he could eat a fire flower and spit out a fire ball, but I later took away that ability. Yoshi ain’t got no fire powers :(

They do exist, and Bowser does care about them.. but he doesn't show it as much as he does in canon. He’s a lot more stern and ruler like. A lot less touchy feely you know?

The idea is that the 1-UP mushroom has fully left Mario’s body. So any effects or pain he experiences all lies in his trauma related to the incident.

Now, if Luigi were to die and be revived by a 1-UP? It would be the same. If the experience was traumatic and he suffered a horrible injury, he would probably deal with phantom pains too..

For most of them I just referenced clothing that relates to the attraction/style they have in the game.

For Chica I looked up kids rock star costumes and took reference of what I thought looked good. For Bonnie I looked up old vintage bowling ally shirts and referenced the one that looked closest to his canon shirt. For Foxy I referenced pirate coats and costumes. For Monty I looked up old golfing outfits and picked out aspects that I liked and mixed it with punk/rock and roll. For Roxanne I referenced punk rock I think..? And old racing fire suits.

For Freddy though I mostly made it up.. but I looked at a bunch of different artists that made redesigns for Freddy and tried to capture the vibe of the ones I liked. Mostly the collar on his coat was something a lot of those artists drew-

For Gregory I just gave him a new outfit based on the story. When he went back to the Pizzaplex his clothes were dirty and worn.. so Freddy went and got him new clothes from one of the gift shops. So I went to google and referenced the sweaters and clothes you find throughout the game and gave him stuff that looked similar. Hope this helped! :}

When I was designing my sona, I wanted something on my hands. At the time my hands were covered in Band-Aids due to cat scratched and dry/cracked skin. So I thought hey! I could have bandaged hands! So I added them.

Oh he’s in the AU, he’s probably one of the smaller gorilla types that just kind’a vibes and does old man stuff. He probably has to eat the sweeter fruits though because his jaw isn’t so strong anymore. Much to his dismay..

She didn’t cause any problems per say, the Toads didn’t even know she existed. Although she does create these shooting stars every time she comes to the planet.. but that doesn’t bother the Toads either, In fact they celebrate them. So the toads have no issue with Rosalina.

Also she apologized to Mario and Luigi for “disturbing” them because they heard her crying and they went to investigate. :(

The reason why Mario experiences phantom pain is because his first death was very traumatic for him. So whether or not he experiences phantom pains with his future deaths all depends on how he died, and how it effected him mentally.

Same goes for Luigi. If he dies a horribly painful/traumatic death.. he’ll likely experience phantom pains too..

There was a comic planned for how they met him actually.

They got lost in the woods and stumbled upon King Boos mansion. Like an idiot Mario goes in and Luigi follows. They both ended up getting tormented and pranked by the Boos. They were separated at one point but then met back up on the second floor. Mario sees a fire flower in an old flower pot and grabs it.

As soon as he becomes fire Mario.. the entire mansion goes completely silent..

Then, all the windows and doors slowly shut. Some of the lights come on and Mario and Luigi follow them. They follow the lights down the hall, down the stairs, through the main room and wind up led to the front door..

The front door is wide open. Mario and Luigi walk out.. only for the door to slam shut behind them. Locking them out.

Mario harnessing a fire flower was so bizarre, so impossible! That King Boo knew he was outmatched against him. So King Boo just silently let them out of the mansion without a fuss.

I’m not sure how they would react to the Koopalings, but I imagine they wouldn't hurt them. It doesn’t take a genius to tell that the Koopalings are just kids..

As for their behaviors.. I think its close to the canon interpretations, except for Ludwig and JR. I had planned that Ludwig was going to be much bigger and more stern like his pa. Because he is the heir to the throne.. but then google told me that Roy is the oldest so there goes that plan-

For JR though his plans stick. JR is supposed to be smaller and younger. More like a toddler then a kid. He’s the youngest and the one Bowser is most protective of.

If Bowser had gone straight for Luigi, first of all he would have to land a fatal blow twice. Because the power of the Ice Flower would Protect Luigi from one big hit. That’s actually why Mario died in one shot. Because the Fire Flower had just run our of power.

But anyway- after loosing the ice flower and getting hit? Luigi would just die.. and stay dead. Only Mario had consumed a 1-UP mushroom at that point..

I imagined them as these strange monsters that live in the woods. They don’t work for Bowser, or Peach, they just do their own thing. I also imagined them to deal with dark magic and rituals and stuff.

Wanna hear how Mario and Luigi first met one?

The plan was that the bros and Yoshi were exploring when they found a shy guy with its leg caught in a tree root. Mario carefully approached to try and help.. but the closer he got. The longer and more deformed the shy guy became.

Yoshi ended up snatching them both up and running away. Mario mysteriously had a fever that lasted for a few days after that..

If the Monkeys were to eat the red beets they would gain more muscle mass overtime. But its not a matter of them not being able to eat them, they just don’t like them.

The blue fruits are very sweet and juicy, and the beets are dry and bitter. The kongs that like bitter flavors eat the beets and grow to be huge. and overtime they develop a dislike for sweet tastes. And vice versa.

Phew, okay - so pending shadows and highlights, and colors are likely to be tweaked at least a little (except for the baby in the middle; heckin' PERFECT!), but this is the first new ground broken in a while for my Fakemon project (with redesigns of old concepts being the art-production focus up until now). @v@;

Part of the excitement of revamping an old project is embracing new possibilities... and with that creative liberty, things have entirely spiraled out of control and now the region is based on a mashup of concepts (including but not limited to Post-Apocalyptic Cottagecore) rather than any real-world location.

In addition, the player is the only human in the setting — and to avoid drawing unwanted attention — can disguise themselves as a 'mon! These are your 3 options, which each align with a given "deity" (read: Mythical/Lesser-Legendary) you choose.

Rambles under the cut if you're as interested in the concept/process as I am!

Aside from signature accent colors and modified/added features of your chosen savior and one personal apparel-item, these are based on mutated variants of canon single-stage Pokémon. While these are super-derivative, I had fun with the concepts!

Each base is changed in type which the new designs reflect. Kecleon took on a Bug-Psychic typing; Indeedee became an Ice-Fairy type; and Heracross became an Electric-Ghost type.

Heracross changed the most of the 3, shrinking considerably and "hollowing out" to an extent, with the flakier texture of its altered carapace allowing for friction/contact-electrification to help generate current. Heracross was also the most-thought-out in terms of a Pokemon mutating to survive in a post-fallout setting; the others were just designed around reinforcing the themes/motifs of the deities I associated them with. ^^;

That said, the deities each have a theme that is reflected in the 'mon-avatar you can adopt through them. Let's go over each, respective to their avatar above, from left to right:

~ Celebi is coded as "The Illuminator", which is why a Psychic type is attributed to you as a mutant-Kecleon, and is the ideal choice if your priority in the "game" is exploration, discovery and mystery/problem-solving. ~ Suicune is coded as "The Protector/Rescuer", and I chose Fairy because out of the supernatural-leaning types, it felt most thematically appropriate. Despite mutant-Indeedee's primary ice-typing, the path associated with Suicune is about the gentle, cozy vibes, warmth and compassion, rewarding those who want to find comfort in rebuilding. ~ Victini is coded as "The Champion", and Ghost-typing was assigned via process of elimination, as I knew I wanted a "mystical" secondary typing for each (though that did make the conceptualization extra fun - deciding that mutant-Heracross attained this 'ghastly' subtype out of sheer tenacity, refusing to 'properly' die. XD). Even though the Heracross species is a tiny shell of its former self, it has lived to fight another day with newfound power, so it follows that this is the primary option if you prefer combat in gameplay!

I'm kind of invested in the hypothetical story now... as even though you assume a Pokémon form (at least while you're awake), you can still befriend a "starter" Pokémon out of 3 options (this is decided when you pick where in the "region" you want to start the game, with your options being the Cottage Zone, the Meadow Zone and the Twilight Zone); this First Friend will likely eventually find out that you're NOT a Pokémon, and that's when things will get interesting — because there's a reason you're hiding the fact that you're human, and there's a reason there are no other humans around...

"What do you mean trip?" Storm asked.

"We're going back to Bangtan first, so I can kill my father and then I'll go back to Ringstar and take my kingship on both planets and conjoin them as one." Jungkook casually answered.

"We're? You mean you right? Cause I'm staying here to get my degree." She argued.

"No, you're not human Storm. You need to be with your people. Besides all those therapy classes couldn't help you fix your brother's anger issues."

"I am human, you never seen my eyes turn pink or purple or whatever rainbow colors you guys do."

Jungkook picked up a tablet before pressing a button making a loud ring come through the speakers. Storm groaned covered her ears with the nearby pillow.

He turned the sound off. "You see that sound was 50,000 Hz. A frequency humans can not hear so unless you're secretly a dog or cat than you have half Ringstar blood. Just like me."

"So what? I'm still not going to your planet. If you're really right about Taehyung then I need to stay here and make sure he stops."

"Now you're just trying to be annoying Storm. You're almost 20 years old, that man isn't your responsibility. He got his own issues he need to work out." Jungkook reasoned.

"Maybe you're right. But I'm not staying here." She said getting up to approaching the door. She uses the handle to try to open it but it won't budge.

"That handle is designed to only open for me. You're the only person who has ever been in my room so don't expect anyone to help you." He said before opening the door to get out himself right in front of her face.

"This spaceship is huge, I've hired people to clean it and redesign it so our voyage to Bangtan will only take two weeks. I've also supplied food and water in it." Jimin bragged to Jungkook.

He nodded in praise at the spaceship. "I want to leave today."

"Today? That's short notice but the spaceship is ready."

"Yes, i'm tired of being weak on this planet. We will leave tonight."

"Ok, I'll have to promote the COO to CEO while I'm gone. I'm not done with Earth yet." Jimin tells his younger brother.

"Very well hyung, but you're still going to help me rule Bangtan and Ringstar right?" Jungkook asked.

"Of course, but Earth is my vacation spot."

"I'm going to get Storm ready and put your little wife on the spaceship."

"You're back!" Storm gasped internally cursing herself for sounding happy.

Jungkook laughed quietly at her reaction. "You missed me babe?"

"No, the tv got boring." She defended.

"Look, I need you to come with me somewhere."

"Where?" She asked full of suspicion.

"To the spaceship, we're leaving today. I would advise you to go willingly, I wouldn't want to use my powers on you again." He warned.

She figured it was no way out of this so she didn't try to argue. "Can I atleast say goodbye to Taehyung? I have to ask him about my mom."

"When Taehyung found out I was taking you he got mad and I had to put him in a cell but Jin will open it as soon as we leave. He will get to have my house and the money in it. I don't think saying goodbye to him is a good idea. It will only anger him."

"Ok." She quietly spoke. Jungkook walked over to her taking her hand.

"No argument or fight?" He questioned.

"What's the point, I wouldn't win." She conceded. Jungkook was happy she didn't fight against him. He didn't want to use his brainwashing abilities on her.

"What are you thinking about?" Taehyung asked. His arms was chained to the cell. His only company was Rosé who was in the nearby cell.

"I don't know maybe how I could've gotten away if you wouldn't of ratted me out." Rosé yelled.

"Our plan would have never worked. Now he's going to take Storm away." He groaned.

"Don't worry, i'll keep her safe Taehyung. You need to worry about yourself now." Rosé suggested.

"You don't understand, taking care of someone else keeps me sane. Putting someone else needs before mine helped me get rid of the dark thoughts that just wants to destroy everything." He explained.

"Take care of yourself then Taehyung. I don't know why you are a murderous dick but i'm sure you can change. You need to find the root of your problem."

"Abandonment. Storm always tried to help people like her who was abandoned but me? I just want kill every privileged person who ever tried to wrong me. Storm found her parents, I already knew mines. My parents hated me, they beat me for the smallest things. I made a pledge that if anyone tried to harm me again they will end up dead." He explained.

"Killing people is only destroying yourself, worst than your parents did. You have talent Taehyung. I've seen some of your fashion designs. Don't waste it on revenge and trauma. You deserve better and its time you start treating yourself better."

Taehyung might didn't agree with her at the moment so he only nodded.

Their heads lifted up as Jungkook entered the room with keys in his hands.

"Jungkook let me out of here! I want to see my sister." Taehyung yelled at him.

"Really? Your sister knows what you did to her mother. I doubt she wants anything to do with you." Jungkook replied as he looked through the keys for the right one.

Taehyung eyes widened as he angrily banged his head against the bars.

"It's launch time Rosé." Jungkook stated as he opened the cell. He lifts her wrists to unleash her from the handcuffs but she had other ideas. Using her strength she headbutted Jungkook who didn't even move. He rolled his eyes before headbutting her back causing her to be knocked out.

"Really Jungkook?!! You couldn't of just commanded her to calm down or something?" Taehyung scolded.

"Atleast I knocked her out and didn't kill her. Besides she tried me first." He defended.

He dragged Rosé body out of the cell. Looking at Taehyung depressed figure in the cell he had sympathy.

"It was nice knowing you Taehyung, I mean that. I hope you change yourself for the better. You've been helpful to me and because of that once I leave tonight you will be free. Free from me and this cell. Be satisfied knowing that your sister will be taking care of and my assets will be given to you."

Taehyung scoffed at his words but part of him was happy he will finally be away from Jungkook. Owning his assets was also a plus. Yet he could never be satisfied now that his sister was gone.

"And Taehyung if I ever come back to this earth and I find out you're still murdering people, i'll kill you." Jungkook threatened as he continued to drag Rosé's body out the room.

Storm sat boredly at the main area of the spaceship. It was bigger than she thought, almost like it was a medium sized house. So her mother really flew in one of these to get to Earth?

She did miss the little time she did have with her mom. But she also resented her for leaving her as a child.

"You look deep in thought." Jimin observed. Jimin was on babysitting duty making sure she didn't try to run but he was too busy admiring the interior of the spaceship to really be babysitting.

"I'm surprised you agreed to this. Why would you want to go to Bangtan when you own a big company on earth." Storm questioned.

"Maybe because I'm a prince of an entire planet on Bangtan." He scoffed.

"True, that was a dumb question to ask." Storm admitted.

"I'm surprised you're so calm for a girl leaving her home." Jimin observed.

"There's no use of throwing a fit. I don't think any of you are trying to kill me."

"Please, Jungkook would never hurt you, let alone kill you. Even if he wasn't in love with you you're still an innocent being. He doesn't hurt innocents. Plus I'll be there to keep him in check." Jimin reassured.

Jimin eyes turn to the attention of the door as Jungkook entered with an unconscious Rosé.

"What did you do to her?" Jimin worriedly asked making his way to check on her.

"She tried to attack me so I knocked her out."

"You couldn't of did it a safer way?" Jimin questioned sneering at his younger brother.

"Don't hurt innocents my ass." Storm thought to herself. Jungkook caught her eyes glaring at him.

"Don't look at me like that, I wouldn't do that to you." He said glancing over to Rosé. Storm said no words and ignored him making Jungkook roll his eyes. "Whatever I'm going to launch this ship."

Storm noticed as Rosé slowly woke up. Jimin rubbed her back encouraging her. She moaned in pain as she touched her bloody forehead. Looking around the room she noticed where she was and who she was in the room with.

Her eyes focused on Storm. "This is all your fault you stupid bitch! I told you to follow me to the car yet you refused." She spit. The younger girl shudder at her anger in guilt.

Jimin looked at Rosé, shocked at her words. "Your plan would have never worked. It's not anyone's fault. You two girls belong at your family's planet."

"I've could have gotten away if Storm would've just admitted to her obvious crush on Jungkook. 'Oh no Jungkook stay away from me please! But also please talk to me I miss you. Oh no Jungkook is killing people for me! That's not a red flag at all, I should just sit back and do absolutely nothing!'" Rosé mocked.

"What do you want me to say Rosé? I'm sorry for being stupid and naive! But if you really felt that way you should have just tried to leave Greenwood without me? It runs in the family to leave don't it?" Storm retorted.

"Admit you liked the attention Jungkook is giving you. It's probably helped with your daddy issues. You know I've met your father Storm, before you even did. Did you even try to look for him after you turn 18? Or were you too traumatized by your mother's death. Right, Lily's death is on you. Because she would've been alive if you would have saw how dangerous Taehyung was. But you don't run from the danger, you like it."

"That's enough Rosé! None of this is Storm's fault I don't know what's gotten into you." He scolded.

Rosé's words did hurt Storm. Deep down she knew she was right. This whole time she liked the attention Jungkook gave her. As an inspiring therapist she seemed to know everyone's problems but her own. She knew that Rosé wasn't really mad at her, just mad that she didn't listen to her. She knew that Jimin was loyal to Jungkook because he felt he owed him loyalty because how deceiving his father and mother was. She didn't fully understand why Jungkook was obsessed with her as much as he was. Just like she couldn't fully figure out why she couldn't hate him.

When Jungkook entered the room he saw tears come out her eyes. He quickly ran over to her embracing her in his arms. "What's wrong baby?"

Storm shooked her head refusing to tell. "She's not even trying to get out his arms." Rosé said chuckling at the scene before her.

Jungkook looked at her noticing the culprit of Storm's tears. Seeing Jungkook's detest Jimin spoke up. "Shut up already Rosé or I'll be knocking you out this time."

Storm continued to softly cry in her hands as Jungkook held her. "Poor baby, you're probably so tired. Let's get you to bed." He picked her up and started to carry her into a room.

The bedroom was fairly large for a spaceship with minimum and new furniture, thanks to Jimin.

Jungkook gently placed her onto the bed. "Oh gosh! Why do I like you?!" She screamed in her cries.

He couldn't take her cries seriously and laughed. "I mean why wouldn't you?”

She wiped her tears with her shirt finally stopping her cries. Jungkook went into the drawers and threw her nightclothes and underwear. "Get dressed while I'm in the bathroom."

"How do you know what size I wear?!!" She asked but he was already in the bathroom. She quickly got dressed wanting to avoid the fear that he will walk in on her.

Storm covered her ears as she heard a loud noise. She looks out the small window and see that the ship in launching and they are leaving Earth's atmosphere. She gasped in amazement of the stars that seemed like it was right in her reach.

However her eyes averted somewhere else as Jungkook jumped on the bed shirtless, only wearing nightpants. "What are you doing?" She asked.

"Going to bed?" He answered in an obvious tone.

"But this is my room!"

"It's a spaceship not a 5 star resort babe. There's only two rooms. I highly doubt you want to share one with Rosé." He explained. He was right Rosé probably will try to choke her in her sleep.

"Do you really have to sleep shirtless?" She asked.

Jungkook looked at her shirt with a smirk. "Do you really have to sleep with no bra on?"

She quickly crossed her arms to cover herself. "Girls don't wear bras to sleep idiot!"

"And most men don't wear shirts to bed. Now come on to bed it's dark outside."

"We're in space its always going to be dark outside." She retorted getting into the side of bed opposite to him. She got under the covers and looked at Jungkook. "Don't try anything."

"Someone's not into space sex I see."

"Sex?? We've only made out once and you're talking about sex."

"Space making out doesn't sound as exciting as space sex. Space making out doesn't even sound right!" He defended.

"Well you're not getting either." She said turning her back away from him.

"Goodnight love." He said softly pecking her cheek.

"What was that?”

"That was a space peck." He chuckled earning a slight grin from her.

He wrapped his arm around her torso cuddling her. "Do you really have to be all close to me?" She complained.

"Yeah, what if you try to escape."

"Escape where? Do you think i'll jump out of a spaceship?"

"Hmm. Who knows?" He mumbled before they both fell into a deep slumber.

I redesigned Merlin. You’re welcome.

I’ve actually had this idea in my head for a while. To be more specific, June 2021.

Here’s how this whole saga began:

June 18th, 2021: I found his gorgeous concept art for the first time and got the idea to give him a ponytail. I wasn’t going to change anything else about him.

June 22nd, 2021, four days later: I decided to make his eyebrows white.

July 26th, 2021: I got the idea to give him earrings.

August 27th, 2021: I had the idea that he would realistically be muscular.

December 30th, 2021: I gave @draal-the-deadly and myself a basic summary of his redesign; more realistic proportions, long hair, earrings, and muscles.

February 7th, 2022: I decided to make him look more intimidating, partly out of a desire to make him look more like one of his beautiful storyboard versions.

July 29, 2022: I had the idea to make a portrait of him in Artbreeder.

July 30th, 2022: I started making his portrait.

July 31st, 2022: I completed his portrait!

If this makes it seem like I have an impeccable memory, I don’t; this is from looking back at old Discord coversations between @draal-the-deadly and I.

Below’s his portrait, general looks, his armor and his sword! I’m redesigning those too! :D I also gave him a helmet because fuck that skullcap.

Armor:

I actually wasn't going to give his armor a redesign at first. I just wanted to make a couple of changes, like making it bigger/less formfitting like his concept art, and adding gauntlets like this piece.

Then I started wondering if I should redesign it, and what I would do if I did. I thought about ideas, but I was never actually able to come up with a solid one.

But finally, I got inspired! I had the idea to give his armor a night motif, like Morgana's is day.

Originally, I decided that its main color would be black like this concept art, with white engravings like canon!Merlin’s armor. I also decided to add a cape, again, like his concept art.

I really, really wanted to see what it could look like, so I used Artbreeder’s semi-new Collager feature.

I entered "black armor with white engravings and medieval cape covered in stars and galaxies" as the description because I was trying to make it as exact as possible. I made three main designs, but I wasn’t able to choose any of them until I decided to mess around with it again, and his armor got rendered with stars. Eventually, that design became my favorite.

The cape unfortunately didn’t get rendered, but I made a design!

Cape:

I got the actual idea for Merlin having a cape covered in stars from Stolas’ in Helluva Boss, but I also remembered Nyx’s design from Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Its current design is now mostly covered in nebulae, but it does have some stars.

When Merlin has all of his magic/is at his full power, the stars shine and move just like real ones; same with the nebulae. After Morgana steals most of his magic, they’re both dim, along with his armor’s stars. They also don’t move.

To make the design for his cape, I again took advantage of the Collager feature. I used a photo they had (Image One) and Galaxy as the description, and this (Image Two) rendered!

But I wanted to see it on a cape, so I made my own cape template, and added the picture to it using the Magic Wand feature in ibisPaint X.

Then I figured out how to combine it with his armor in Adobe Express!

It’s actually a lot longer, going to about his ankles, but y’know, photo compression.

Helmet:

We’re finally onto his helmet! After making several designs that I was never happy with, I finally have a finalized one, combined with two photos.

I always wanted his helmet to match his armor, being black with white stars, but the photos never came out right because of colors, being too modern, etc. But two photos finally came out right, and gave me the design that I wanted. The first photo is what its main part looks like, except for the horns. It has a visor I guess? like Jim’s helmet, with the ability to magically collapse and materialize. When his visor is up, the only part of his face that can be seen is his eyes. The second photo is what the visor looks like when up, and what I want the horns to look like.

Sword:

A long time ago, before I’d even come up with the idea for his redesign, I did a sword Picrew and made one with a night theme. When I was coming up with his night motif, I remembered it and decided it would fit!

I wanted it to have a more realistic look, though, so I drew a sword using his canon one as a reference. Then I added some of the star photos I made in Artbreeder to it with the Magic Wand feature.

I wanted to give his staff a slight redesign because I feel like DR!Merlin gives off more straight up fantasy design vibes than canon!Merlin.

Instead of always being a staff like canon, Merlin usually keeps it shapeshifted into a ring, which he wears on his right hand’s middle finger.

I also made a shield for him because of his Adaptational Badass characterization!

But besides the new day vs. night symbolism of him and Morgana -which I’m a sucker for- DR!Merlin’s night motif shows that he isn’t a threat to the good trolls; Morgana’s day motif shows that she is.

It would also thematically make sense, given that trolls are creatures of the night. There are a lot of star and night motifs in Trollhunters, but the main one I can think of off the top of my head is the starry sky in the Void.

And here’s a blurb from Jim’s POV as he and Toby learn about Merlin!

Before Blinky started reading, he raised his hand. “Hey, uh, Blinky?” “Yes, Master Jim?” he asked, looking up. “I have a question I wanted to ask you.” “Of course, Master Jim.” he responded, smiling. “What is it?” “The Amulet’s incantation has ‘For the Glory of Merlin’ on it. Is Merlin the guy who created the Amulet?” “Yes, Master Jim.” he answered. Then he paused, confused. “Did I not tell you that?” “You didn’t tell us anything about him,” Tobes pointed out from beside him. All we know about him is from pop culture and speculation, and who knows how accurate any of that is.” “Oh, goodness. I shall fix that immediately!” He shared an excited grin with his best friend before he quickly pulled out his phone. He was definitely recording this. “But before that, I must fetch another book!” the troll exclaimed, making both of them groan. “I will return quickly, I assure you. “AAARRRGGHH!!!, will you hold this?” he asked, holding up the book. “Yes.” “Thank you, old friend.” He handed the book over before walking to the entrance of the Forge. Soon Blinky was back, with another book that looked less old than the one about Killahead. “The Life of Merlin,” he said, gesturing to the book he now held. “An ironic title, because so much of it unknown despite his ancient age.” Wait. Merlin is ancient to them? “But what we do know is compiled in this book- oh.” He stopped, finally noticing Jim’s phone. “What are you doing, Master Jim?” “Recording this to show Mom later.” “Oh, alright. Continuing on-” “Blink, wait. What did you mean that you think he’s ancient? How old is he?” “That, Master Jim, is answer no one knows. But he was around as long as anyone could remember. He was one of the oldest creatures alive, if not the oldest.” Jim saw Toby raise his hand out of the corner of his eye. “Yes, Tobias?” His best friend’s expression was skeptical.“No offense, but you don’t seem to know very much about him despite him being so old.” “That’s true. But he was a very mysterious person. He was the type to never talk about his past unless something reminded him of a past event, or he was asked. And even then, only sometimes.” Toby hummed thoughtfully. “Okay, I’ll buy that. But why can’t we meet him? Did he just leave you like a coward or something?” And Jim might not have known Blinky that well yet, but Toby’s question seemed to make him… sad. “No, Tobias.” he quietly answered. “But that would have been better. He… he died 900 years ago, two weeks after the Battle of Killahead.” Oh. “That's... that's really sad.” Jim said softly. Blinky nodded, his eyes still sad. “The tragic nature of his death only adds to it.” He zoned out for a minute before he shook his head, clearing his throat. “Do either of you have any more questions?” “I think I’m good.” Tobes nodded in agreement.

“AAARRRGGHH!!!, should I start with his physical appearance or his armor?” the troll asked, cracking his knuckles. “Armor.” AAARRRGGHH!!! answered. “Armor?” Toby gasped, eyes shining. “You’re saying that the Merlin wore armor?” Oh, Tobes, he thought, smiling at his best friend. Excited as always. Blinky nodded, grinning. “Whoaaaaa.” Toby whispered, awestruck. “Actually, I probably should have expected that. He literally made Jim’s.” “What did it look like?” Jim asked. “His armor was black, and covered in white stars. His breastplate and pauldrons were dotted with them, and his breastplate also had a giant one in its center. Along with that, he wore a blue, black, purple, and pink cape, also covered in stars. His helmet was black with stars like his armor, and it had two horns like the Daylight helmet. He even wore night themed accessories in his normal attire, such as moon earrings. It was his way of signaling that he was always safe to good magical creatures.” He smiled sadly after that, looking down at the book he was still holding. “Wowww. Wait. How come Jim didn’t get a cape?” “He probably thought inexperience might make a Trollhunter trip over it, or get it snagged in something.” Toby thought about that before nodding. “True. What kind of weapons did he use?” “His usual weapons were his sword and his staff, which was most often shifted into a shield. “Now, onto his physical appearance. “He was quite tall for a human, and his posture was always straight, befitting someone who was a warrior for centuries. He had warm brown skin, with completely white hair. His eyes were a beautiful blue, much brighter than yours, Master Jim. Many have said that they were his most stunning feature, and I agree with them. They were soul-piercing, and you could literally see the millenia that he’d lived in them.” “Whaaaaat? He sounds beautiful.” “On the contrary, Tobias, while his armor was, his face was actually rather hideous.” He opened the book he’d been holding in his top left arm, flipping it to a page before turning it to face them. “I will warn you that some of this is artistic expression because he never fought without his helmet, but otherwise it is very accurate.”

The picture showed Merlin in a moonlit forest, positioned in an awesome fighting pose with his weapons. It looked like he was looking right at them, and a fierce expression was on his face. There were a few seconds of silence. “Blinky, he isn’t hide-” he began. “Oh my gosh.” Tobes suddenly exclaimed. “What?” he asked. “He really was hot.” “TOBES!” he shouted, mortified, but his best friend just started cackling. It was contagious, and he started laughing pretty quickly. Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! seemed confused at first, but soon they were laughing too. “But like I was trying to say,” he finally managed to get out, “He wasn’t hideous at all.” Blinky looked at AAARRRGGHH!!!, who shrugged. “Well, he was to our standards.” Tobes started studying Merlin’s picture again. “He looks like he came straight out of a fantasy novel. Albeit, far older than the typical protagonist. And far more powerful, right?” “I’m not quite sure of what you’re referring to, but most certainly.” “You never did say how he died.” Jim said softly. “He… was killed. By his own former apprentice.” His mouth dropped. “What?” he asked quietly, shocked. “Damn.” Tobes said, weirdly calmly. “Morgana le Fay betrayed her master, and in the Battle of Killahead, wounded him. Very fortunately, he was still able to win their fight and seal her away. He made it back to Camelot, where he fell asleep. And he… never woke up. Two weeks later, he succumbed to his wounds. “Before those… events, it seemed like nothing could kill him, or even harm him. Sometimes it’s still hard to believe that he’s… gone.” “That’s terrible.” Jim felt his brow furrow. “But also sounds kind of strange. No offense.” Instead of getting annoyed, Blinky nodded vehemently. “I also always thought that the circumstances of his death were strange, as did many others. But he never came back, so he must have died.” Tobes looked skeptical again. “Are you sure he didn’t just fake his death and leave like I said?” “Of course, Tobias.” he answered, and he said it with such conviction that Jim was convinced. “He would have never done that.” Tobes, however, still looked skeptical. “You seem awfully certain of that.” “I am. His personality had many traits, and being sarcastic, brutally honest, abrasive, and stubborn were just a few of them. But he was curious. And kind.” He let out a small laugh. “And he was brave. So very brave. In fact, I would say that bravery was his strongest trait. “During the times of Camelot, Arthur’s wife, Guinevere, was killed by a stalkling, and the grieving king ordered the magical world to be wiped out. Most of us fled or hid, but Merlin stayed in Camelot, right at Arthur's side. “Humans either thought he was foolish to, or praised him for his loyalty. But Merlin was secretly protecting us, committing treason in doing so. He took on a new identity and alias: Myrrdin Wylt. “He actively fought against the bloodshed in any way he could under that disguise. He started by showing up at executions being held, and freeing the poor creatures sentenced to death. Such blatant acts of rebellion, of treason, didn’t go unnoticed, of course, and he was brought before the king. “He stood up to Arthur, calling him out on his vengeance against all of us when it was one stalking. He even asked the humans in the room how they would feel if the situation was reversed. “He didn’t change his mind, so Merlin doubled his efforts. He started to make the Amulet to help defend us against the Gumm-Gumms and humans, and he kept breaking us free and helping us hide. “If he was requested to help capture or kill us, he always made excuses or conveniently disappeared. If good trolls were killed and brought back to Camelot, he revived them and made illusions of them in their places. “Does he really seem like someone who would just leave now?”

“…No.” Tobes finally admitted. Yes! “You guys seem like you really love him.” “And he loved us. Humans tended to think of us magic-kind as monsters, but he never treated us any differently than humans. “He always loved magic and discovering new things about it, while most humans found the very idea of magic and its potential frightening. “I already explained how he was our protector.” Blinky continued. He picked up the book and flipped the pages to more pictures, of Merlin laughing, playing with whelps, and holding a child. “He was our hope bringer. He was the mightiest wizard and greatest wielder of magic to have ever lived, and he always used his power to help us. “Heartstone Trollmarket became the beautiful safe haven it is today because we just did what we thought he would have done.” He stopped, sighing. “Sometimes… I like to look around here, our home, and think about how much he would have loved it.” “Now, onto the history of Killahead!” He took the first book he’d given to AAARRRGGHH!!! back, opening it. “It used to be just an ordinary bridge, but during the Battle of Killahead…” Jim didn’t feel himself begin to fall asleep.

I’ll probably flesh this out even more later.

Anyways, it’s set during “Gnome Your Enemy”! Jim stays awake for the explanation about Merlin, then he falls asleep during the retelling of the Battle of Killahead like in canon.

A couple of days ago I decided I wanted to redesign the Carnage boxes. Why? Because A. Their theming was all over the place, saying that they were dinosaurs and then only 3 out of 5 are. B. As a person who’s favourite dinosaur is the Spinosaurus Kikyo is an atrocity to me.

So in redesigning them I have changed the theme to mythical creatures/monsters, since I didn’t have to change that much that way. Plus it goes with Byakuran’s angel wings and dragon box weapon.

This was very fun to do! also down below is what they are and the changes I made.

Daisy - The one with the biggest amount of changes done, I chose the phoenix to fit his unable to die quirk of how powerful his flame is. additionally Phoenixes tend to heal very quickly from injury. Though I didn’t want to fully get rid of his lizard like form, thanks to an earlier suggestion from @neko-mama I took a bit of inspiration from the Cockatrice/Basilisk to keep some of that.

Zakuro - Keeping with his impenetrable skin and general fire abilities, a dragon would have been a shoe in. However since Byakuran already had a dragon box weapon I wanted something very distinct, so I chose a Tarrasque, specifically the old lion/tortoise/bear version of it in myth. Especially since it’s well known for it’s toughness.

Bluebell - Bluebell was very easy since she was pretty much already a mermaid. But I always hated just how plain she looked in comparison to the others so i decided to spruce her up a bit with some bioluminescence, adding some gills, and new fins.

Torikabuto - What was extremely hard to actually decide was what the fuck creature he was. I was starting to get so specific that it wouldn’t be known or at least would be hard to tell what it was. Thankfully @chierry gave me the helpful suggestion of a fairy which broadened the horizon and pulled me out of the narrow scope i put myself in. I did change the design of his wings in addition to adding arms to give him a more moth like feel and give more emphasis to the eyes. The original wings were a little too cluttered at least to me.

Kikyo - Oh man he was a doozy, not in design but he took 2 days to draw. It was obvious that he should be a hydra, since that was of course literally what those heads did. I wanted his design to be more cohesive because I found at least for me personally, there was too much difference between the main body and the actual heads. Random maroon colours splotches on his face, horns that kind of confused me as the why they were there since spinosaurus never had any horns. Green on the dinosaurs despite them being supposedly his teal hair. The whole thing felt like a mess. Hopefully I did fixing it up justice.

Hi! Since you were disappointed with how MLP g4 turned out by the time it ended (as was I), I was curious if you have any opinions on Equestria Girls? Personally I think it had a ton of potential, as to me Sunset Shimmer is one of the few positive elements that the new writers added to the franchise, but they sacrificed any expansive world building and overall narrative integrity for forced ship pandering, much like the MLP finale did (though in this case with rarijack and sciset and on a much bigger scale), which ofc the fans eat up. I actually think if Sunset was included in the main show, it could’ve let to some interesting and cool plot lines (plus imo she brings the best out of Twilight). I’d like to know what you think! :)

Just like old times, it took me a whole day to finish writing this. But anyway it's been a while since I watched this crud so let's see...

Equestria Girls (EQG) was a very obvious cheap cash grab for teen girls. A really successful one, though, since it let Hasbro steal the Disney Princess license from Barbie.

With this in mind... the first two EQG movies are surprisingly decent. The second being the far better of the two with the exception of Trixie repeating her stupid strip club song over and over.

The third movie is garbage other than its songs and the fourth is meh. I despise "Sci-Twi". She has zero of prime Twilight's charm; they didn't expressly address or play on the analogue to prime Twilight having the least connection to the other girls out of the six so we get only the drawbacks of that lack of connection; and Sunset covers all of her contributions to the show from being the leader to having the most impressive powers to formerly being a monster. Sci-Twi is a boring nothing-character there for creeps to drool over a shy nerd girl. Sci-Twi is completely pointless.

Beyond the movies, I saw I guess a couple of the specials and that's about it. So I have no clue what you're talking about with the character shipping. Either that's more apparent in the shorts I didn't watch or the fandom is once again going "Two characters who appeal to my confused understanding of queerness I developed as a coping mechanism for being bullied at school are talking? I can't believe this gratuitous sex is in a children's show!"

EQG is surprisingly good for what it is, but that doesn't mean it's good good. The most obvious problem is how it looks. While the content they designed specifically for Equestria Girls looks okay, existing characters they had to redesign usually look abominable.

The worst casualties are the Princesses.

They kinda tried with Celestia, who has the right eyes (maybe) barely fitting on her face, but the others have completely new eyes (as an awful lot of characters do) and oh yeah Luna's a totally different color.

I mean, some of Luna's toys were also that color since MLP toys often look like bootlegs of themselves...

But also she is now "human", so EQG was bound to irrelevant and racist ideas of "acceptable" human skin color. Big Macintosh couldn't be red, lest the country bumpkin stereotype be mistaken as an indigenous American stereotype, so I presume no one could be too dark either because "NOBODY could be THAT black it MUST be a caricature". This is of course completely ridiculous, but someone pretended to be angry soccer moms and tried to sue Hasbro at least once over bullshit wokery (The Last Roundup), so they were wise not to take such chances.

This original-good / returning-bad rule of thumb applies even to new outfits. EQG Pinkie is kinda gross in her standard outfit, but looks much cuter in the new outfit she gets while working as a waitress - partially because she no longer has giant elephant feet.

(I think they intentionally worked Alice Liddel into the waitress design as a reference to "Pinkie is secretly an ax murderer". See Cupcakes, American McGee's Alice, etc.)

Because it's made for teen girls, EQG stories are incredibly daft and mostly rely on girls being superficial wenches. Literally every single major EQG antagonist except maybe Gloriosa is motivated by ego, jealousy, or otherwise a concern with their public image or vanity. Even Wallflower, who tried to get everybody to forget her, did this because she was embarrassed she was cringe af for real I can't even.

In the comics, someone - I think it's Sunburst - actually writes a college thesis on how Starswirl the Bearded is the Worst Pony and why everything is his fault. One of the reasons is that he recklessly chucked the Sirens (originally from prime Equestria) into a random other dimension, assuming this'd be OK since it had no magic. In the comics Starswirl's abuse of Luna is part of why she became Nightmare Moon and he also accidentally created the changelings.

I don't remember if the Sirens are mentioned in the core show, but other than them, the only EQG character who is ever recognized is Sunset, because she's the only one who ever interacted regularly with the prime Equestrians (being one herself), and because Sunset was already shown in her impossibly adorable pony form in EQG anyway so they didn't need to make new assets for her or have goofy moonfaced "humans" appear in the core show.

Reverie Equestria doesn't incorporate EQG per se because EQG is completely at odds with everything about RevEq and generally incredibly stupid, but the prime Equestrian versions of EQG characters will appear. I know some of them appeared in the comic, usually just in cameo roles, but the RevEq versions won't necessarily match the comic versions.

For instance, here's a sprite for Wallflower Blush if and when she appears in Out of Season.

In the comics, Wallflower appears as an earth pony. In RevEq she's a unicorn, because she does the memory-wiping thing herself. Every magic character in RevEq has a signature spell, and Wallflower's is the Oblivion Spell that lets her wipe memories.

And yes, in RevEq, applicable characters consistently have bushwooly hair covering their faces when seen from the right. This is a half-joke about how all MLP characters are designed to look good from the left, since that's how they're put in the toy boxes, and some of them like the Princesses clearly have the entire right side of their face blocked off. It also lets characters like Fluttershy or Wallflower hide their faces from the player's perspective. Maybe I'll have a stealth segment where you can sneak past someone because she can't see to her right.

If you play the very early, not-remotely-finished Out of Season right now, you'll notice Rainbow Dash even has different colors of her hair visible left vs. right, whereas the show just flips her over.

Anyway.

EQG is okay. I didn't expect much and I didn't get much. It has some interesting ideas to transform into better forms for fanfic AUs. Humans suck, pone not munkey.
