#reference sketch

This is my rough idea for the reference designs so far. Going off the book as close as i can to where it makes sense, using a mixture of reptile/bird/amphibian for markings/colors to fit the descriptions better, like ceolophysis with a basilisk lizard since its mistaken for one with how the biologist mistakes it for one until he see’s the girls drawing.

Will be doing other colors like for the velociraptors.

This comic will have an alternative more scientifically accurate version after the book accurate is finished so the designs fit more of the modern day understanding of the animals. Why dakota raptor is chosen since it fits size and description and location on where its being dug up and looks like an oversized velociraptor.

Will eventually get to the characters and the buildings/vehicles

Also including previous sketches/ie size chart and other rough ideas

Im still working to do this, it’s just getting juggled around with other projects as well as while I’m dealing with health stuff and family, so sorry if this is taking awhile.

SEASON 2 IS TOMORROW!

To celebrate let me upload all these reference sketches of episode 1 I’ve been hoarding. At some point in time, I decided that studying Flynn’s work would help me learn how to draw (kind of!) but I didn’t even get all the way through episode 1 (^^;). I swear, they’re some kind of demons being able to crank out content so quickly.

Also, I’m an artistic hack (:p)

But I honestly love these stupid muppet faces.

I wanted to work on a reference, so I worked on one of the characters from my book Dungeon Photographer, Zirko's mother. I really like how it came out and I absolutely wanted to color her. Unlike Zirko, she is another type of troll, to whom I tried to give more animalistic elements

finally finished a sketch of Arcee's face based on her presurgery look in the IDW1 Unicron series as illustrated here. yes this is for a thing (multiple things: 1 practice! 2: we plan to draw her a lot more that's all we're currently saying 3: we need a reference sheet to do that and the face is the first finished bit). used gimp 2 to do this and made a custom paint brush for most of the outlining (size 11, aspect ratio 0, angle 0, spacing 20, hardness 50, force 27, smooth stroke on with standard quality 20 and weight 50), and a pixel brush for the sides of the nose and upper lip, with hardness of the pixel brush lowered to 42 for the lower lip. while we did draw the whole face we did copy paste the left half and flipped it over for referential symmetry (and not because we think most things are irl are perfectly symmetrical thats definitely not the case. we love assymetry adklsfjkasldfj)

Warmup train sketch

Train sketch that I just drew in half an hour. It’s in red pencil because my normal mechanical one is broken atm 😭

Might post my older train sketches in a bit, I’m starting to get back into it I think lol.
