Liu Mingyan is wild. She wrote RPF about her brother’s crush getting it on with her brother’s nemesis, made it a multipart series, and started a book club for it. Family is nothing compared to her OTP.

I'm like 99% sure that if Liu Qingge wasn't her brother, Liu Mingyan would write a LiuShen book. She would be a multishipper, if we also include Yue Qingyuan, Zhuzhi-lang, Gongyi Xiao, Shang Qinghua, etc. And all her books would be banned on Cang Qiong mountain lol yet everyone would read them, Poor Shen Qingqiu and his thin face lmao
Although I do fear what Binghe would think if she wrote any other ship besides Bingqiu

Shen Qingqiu's mental gymnastics are impressive. He even assumes Sleeping Willow Flower is a straight man. He mentally curses the author of Regret of Chunshan to be "forever unable to find a wife!"

I have just noticed this but. Oh my gods.
The devil may work fast but Liu Su Mian Hua works faster. It could not have been longer than a fucking week, when she first heard the alternative version of what happend between sqq and lbh from Lu Liu and somehow our girl was able to write a whole bawdy dramatic ballad about them, get it published and famous?!
I am in awe of her. Truly an inspiration to us all and the true head of the fanclub.

Binghe would probably be into choking, but he wouldn't know how to do it safely and he'd end up almost actually choking Shen Qingqiu. And then he'd cry.

You know it would be really funny if Luo Bingqiu are considered to be a really cringe couple in the demon realm whereas Moshang are like...epic lovers
Like if you ask a demon about Shen Qingqiu they'd be like: "Sure, I guess he's a peak lord but he died a lot. Weak. Why would you take someone who can't take torment as a spouse? Also he doesn't scheme at all AND he and Lord Luo are all soppy with each other. And he's never murdered anyone for Lord Luo even once :( seems kinda cringe to me"
But if you ask about Shang Qinghua they're like "He took the beating of Mobei Jun for years! Three times a day I heard! That's old school romance that is! And he fought off Linguang-Jun twice! That's not to mention the scheming and cruelty he employed when helping his lover exact revenge against his ancient foes! That's true love right there. That is a romance of the ages! They murder for each other a lot! True love!"
I like to think there is a Moshang equivalent of the regret of Chunshan but it's written by demons for demons
Maybe Sha Hualing writes it to snag her girlfriend idk
Whereas even though Bingqiu has it's detractors in the human realm it's still widely considered to be an epic pornography romance
While they probably find Moshang just confusing and out of left field

Just posting some svsss quotes from the extras:
After Luo Binghe finished reading, he said, “As for this disciple, he never could have forced you like this. If Shizun merely furrowed his brow, this disciple wouldn’t have been able to continue. How could I let Shizun sob like this yet still not stop? The depiction here is a bit unrealistic.”
Not only was it unrealistic... It was OOC. Completely OOC— OOC all the way off the map!
—Chapt. 29: Regret of Chunshan and Song of Bingqiu
Just for funsies:
“Luo Binghe, even though this master has allowed you to... I never allowed you all this variety,” Shen Qingqiu said in a warning tone.
Luo Binghe started. “Oh. This disciple understands.”
He looked a bit disappointed, but he didn’t push the issue. Now Shen Qingqiu was the one feeling uneasy.
Luo Binghe had never made any requests of him when it came to these matters. Because of his lackluster skill, he was always cautious in the extreme, and he even somewhat capitulated to Shen Qingqiu. Now he had finally acquired some instructional materials and found a bit of self-confidence, hoping to try them out together, only for Shen Qingqiu to toss a basin of cold water over his head...
Shen Qingqiu squirmed in his seat. After a while, he finally picked up his fan to cover his face and said with some reserve, “How do you want to do it?”
—Chapt. 29: Regret of Chunshan and Song of Bingqiu
And wow, would you look at that:
Their limbs were intertwined, both of them sticky with hot sweat. Luo Binghe’s waist and back shone with moisture, and Shen Qingqiu nearly couldn’t hold on with his legs alone, so he hooked his arms around Luo Binghe’s neck to stop himself from sliding down. This drew them even closer, until the space between them was practically nonexistent, and he left a smattering of passionate kisses on Luo Binghe’s face in encouragement.
—Chapt. 32: Wedding
It’s almost as if… Shen Qingqiu is an active participant in wholly consensual sex with his partner. As if… Luo Binghe isn’t coercing him into sex.
When he woke up the next morning, Shen Qingqiu’s first thought was that he wanted to smash himself to death against that extremely well-developed short-haired beast on Qing Jing Peak.
He swore up and down that he’d lost his entire life’s worth of face last night. He absolutely couldn’t suffer another moment more embarrassing than that!
—Chapt. 32: Wedding
It’s almost as if Shen Qingqiu’s only issue is that he thinks the loss of control he experiences as a result of his passion for his husband (!!!) is embarrassing—but an embarrassment he’s willing to live with in exchange for unconditional love.

Thinking about the way Shen Qingqiu talks about the female characters at the end of Vol. 3 — that he still has an “intensely curious feeling” but can no longer “hold onto” the veneer of ‘male gaze’ sexualization he’d been covering it with — and how this seems to particularly apply to Liu Mingyan.
Honestly, the connections between SQQ and LMY are so fascinating to me. Particularly his slight fixation on her face covering, because once he admits that it’s not an attraction thing, it becomes sort of obvious what the real significance is; after all, who else is notably in the habit of concealing their face (and gets uncomfortable/agitated when lacking the means by which to do so)?
(One has to wonder if this is part of why Liu Qingge is so consistent about bringing SQQ’s fan back whenever he loses it: because he’s already familiar with the ‘please don’t perceive me as having a physical form’ instinct from his sister.)
And, of course, the irony of SQQ’s deliberately-adopted ‘male fantasy’ mindset when juxtaposed with the implication that LMY wrote Regret of Chunshan, which is objectively the more extreme example of sexualizing people you know in real life lol.
Even the way he describes her (lovely, cool, elegant, radiating integrity) doesn’t feel at all dissimilar to the impression SQQ gives off from an external perspective, at least when he’s not caught out while Binghe-wrangling or assaulting Airplane.
Anyway I would love to see more interactions between them as SQQ’s subconscious recognition of the self in the other gradually becomes a bit more conscious~

just wanted to say thank you so much for this wonderful blog!! i enjoy it a lot and feel like i’m learning a lot from it. it seems to me that out of the three mxtx books, that sv is the one with the most prevalent fanon attached to it - or maybe the one with the most fanon confused for canon. i wonder if this is because of the nature of the text as a kind of au of pidw- there’s sort of more than one canon in text, and due to shen yuan’s relationship to the original book, and his narrative POV, maybe people kind of take on this more meta-textual approach to sv itself as a novel
You're very welcome! All I really want out of this blog is to learn things & also to share things with others to learn too!
While I won't necessarily say that SV has the most fanon of the three novels, since I'm not overly active in MDZS/TGCF fandoms, what you say does make sense. Because, even in SVSSS itself, we also are dealing with Shen Yuan's fanon the whole time! And as we find out through the novel that SY's original ideas of PIDW's background weren't all correct, then it's easy to wonder if there are also other things to blame on SY's PIDW fanon (such as the argument in real-world fandom as to whether SJ abused disciples other than LBH), or on his unreliable narration in SV canon (something like, were the three daoist nuns actually interested in LBH, or were they actually blushing upon seeing him after having read Regret of Chunshan and the like?).
Since a major idea in SV itself is that Shen Yuan as the reader didn't know everything about PIDW, it creates a situation that is so very ripe for speculation among fandom-- and of course, when there are different kinds of ideas, some of them will take off more than others based on who relates to them and in what way.
That, aside from the multiple timelines in the novel itself, can make it very easy for fanon to become so common that it gets mistaken for being canon.
And, of course, the fact that even with all the worldbuilding that does exist in SVSSS, there is still so much that hasn't been explained or gone into-- so of course, in transformative works, fans will have to come up with their own explanations.
