I feel like what's been sticking with me about the Trolls films is that they really didn't have to be as bad as they are. Like each movie contains elements that could have combined into quite good movies but I guess the will to do so wasn't actually there among the people making the movies.

The first one could have actually leveraged the bi-directional prejudices of the Bergens and the Trolls being constructed on false assumptions as a plot point but instead it's just kinda vaguely there like the worlds most disinterested ghost almost-but-not-quite haunting the narrative. I assume that they didn't really acknowledge or explore this because doing so would have actually required discussing some kind of repirations for the captivity and murder of the trolls before the movie starts? This entire film just kinda stinks of the filmmakers having zero courage in regards to the plot of the movie they were making and it frustrated me endlessly.

The second one needed Poppy and Barb to be long-time pen-pals before the movie started and to have actually gone in a sapphic direction with their character arcs. Also like, maybe do some sensitivity consulting at literally any point during production, jesus guys your movie is kinda fucking racist and in the lazyest fucking way.

The third one could only be salvaged by having the plot they chose instead be the B plot and focus most of the movie on Bridget's honeymoon roadtrip.
