I HATE CARS I FUCKING HATE CARS not the movie i like the movie :3
Whoever invented society's reliance on personal vehicles I sincerely wish a very die. I've been stuck at my house for the last 3 days because there's like idk, at least 1 mm of snow proabably, and my car SUCKS and it can't move and I have no way of leaving my house without my car because public transportation is just like the tooth fairy and the queen of england and it doesn't exist and I live in the middle of fucking nowhere where everything is too far away to walk to.
I woke up this morning like an hour ago feeling relatively alright (alright enough to be enraged enough to write this) after the 3 most apathetic days I've had in the entire last fucking year all because I'm stuck in my house (which at the very least were a really big sign that I really need to hurry and find a place to rent as soon as possible so like, good motivator I guess). THE WORST PART IS I'M PROBABLY GONNA BE STUCK HERE FOR AT LEAST LIKE 2 MORE DAYS BECAUSE THE SNOW STILL HASN'T MELTED AT ALL AND MY CAR STILL GETS STUCK AFTER MOVING 2 INCHES AAAAAAAAAAA. Nonono there's no way I've developed a trauma response to isolation after 3 years of being stuck in isolation no no never that would be ridiculous this is normal, normal people start panicking after being snowed in for 1 day this is just how the human brain works normally. i'm normaul.
Also the movie Cars is like pretty good, I haven't watched it in like 10 years but it was like one of my favorite Pixar movies as a kid so like, I guess it gets a pass. Mr Inventor of Cars (The Movie) I'll spare you when I go through my anti-car supervillain arc.
Tumblr media
OK made a major mistake when initially postign this, I forgot to add the iconic Plok in a car that I've had screenshotted for 2 days for some reasons, sorry folks, literally thanked you all for comign and forgot to include my main point, big mistake on my part, here you go my liege.

So what do you think happened in between the time that Shadow was ejected from the ark and to earth after the ark raid fifty years ago? I really hope that is explored a bit more in the third film. On top of that, I think that you should treat yourself and go all sciencey with this post well. Mainly because I want to know your thoughts on the matter and I love reading your science posts and whatnot
Hello, my dear!❤️✨
I completely agree. I do hope that this is explored a bit more in the film. It wasn't entirely clear as to what happened within that time-frame in the games. I'm sure that many of us have an idea as to what happened with Shadow as he crashed to Earth from the ARK in Sonic Adventure 2. From my perspective, it seemed like Shadow had a bit of time on Earth before GUN Soldiers came to retrieve him from the escape pod.
Onto to your last bit, are you asking me what would happen to Shadow as he crashed to Earth? Like... in a real world perspective? Something realistic? Uh, I can try and go all science-y like you've asked. Please keep in mind that my background in science is anthropological rather than astronomy and such.
The first thing that I should address is that most of my comparisons are in a modern-day setting. Yes, we can see that everything in the Sonic universe is technologically advanced, but we can't begin to fathom HOW advance they really are. We're only going on the notion that they're incredibly advanced. My logic and retelling of the situation is hypothetical. It should not be taken as a hard fact.
Let’s establish Shadow’s setting before diving into the intensity of the situation. Applying logic of modern day technology to the situation, we know that a shuttle from the earth to the moon is roughly three days (Dobrijevic, 2023). This is made with the assumption of using 21st century aerospace engineering/dynamics. We, as the audience, see that science and technology in Sonic's universe is highly advanced. The problem with this is that we don't necessarily have a strong understanding of how advanced it truly is. We can assume that it's drastically different from ours, but can't place a marker in time how how many years into the future it truly is. The best that we can say is that it's highly advanced. For the sake of my sanity and yours, we'll say that the escape pod's projection from the ARK to earth is in three days or less. (This is based upon the assumption that the escape pod cannot be piloted on Shadow's end).
What we need to realize is that Shadow is in a state of shock. Everything that happened on the ARK is still fresh in mind. That moment replays over and over again. When someone is in a state of shock, your entire body in sensory overload. Blood flow drops and resorts in a plethora of symptoms. Symptoms like irregular and labored breathing, cold and clammy skin, enlarged pupils, changes in mental behavior, and so forth (Mayo Clinic, 2023). These symptoms can vary depending on the intensity of the situation. And if anything, the ability to think rationally dwindles. The popular thought that the fandom has was why Shadow couldn’t teleport back to the ARK when ejected into space. While this may have seen like a logical idea, even if he bypasses his mental state of shock, there is a problem with canon rule. Before the rule change, Shadow could only use chaos control to teleport unless he possessed an emerald (Takashi lizuka, 2013). Chaos Control is different than a Chaos Snap, meaning that distance is a factor. This was the canon rule for when SA2 was released in 2001. Even if he were to rationally think and formulate a plan, he wouldn't get very far. He’s completely trapped in the escape pod.
Other than going through a state of shock, he learns how to quickly adapt to the void of space. These are physical changes. A few queries that are stressed from astronauts is how they must relearn to adjustment to earth's gravity, natural lighting, and sound after space travel. These assumptions could be implied with Shadow as well.
In space, Shadow learns to adjust to the light intake that's around him. There isn’t a lot of light, but there's enough for him to see stars, planets, and the ARK. Since the ARK functions as a space station, we can conclude that he exposed to select adaptations of light cycles is present (Guo et. al, 2014). This means that he's adapted a circadian (biological) clock and sleep cycles. His natural habitat is space; his circadian clock matches space time. Entering into a new habitat with a different volume of light intake may mess with him completely. Other than affecting his sleep cycle, it will affect how he's able to see in a brighter setting. This could potentially result in temporary blindness. So even landing on earth, he wouldn't be able to get very far due to lack of vision problems.
Another factor to mention is his adaptation to earth's gravity. We must assume that the ARK has his own gravitation field and one similar to earth. I stress the word "similar" because it's not a complete replica. It's artificial. We cannot make the assumption that the escape pod possesses a gravitational field like the ARK—we lack that detail in SA2. Therefore, we must conclude that Shadow is subjected to weightlessness. We've learned from physiological study that extended periods of time in space will result a change in how the body adapts to earth's atmosphere (Cranford & Turner, 2021). Since Shadow is isolated in an enclosed environment for a specific amount of time, his perception of spacial orientation, head-eye/hand-eye coordination, general locomotion, and balance might be minimal. There would still be difficulties of adjusting to earth, but he wouldn't spend countless years of his lift trying to adapt.
Finally, there's the adjustment to sound. The unit of sound is measured in a decibel. The decibel value can increase and decrease depending on the environment. Typically, we hear a sound frequency at a decibel of 70 in every day activity (Editor, 2018). This is the equivalent of hearing car horns or a crowd of people talking in a store. Compared to everyday life on the ARK, Shadow is thrown into the void of space. The lack of sound—other than his own breathing (which can be measured at a decibel of 10 in sound frequency)—will be what he’s used to hearing. Once welcomed to earth, the frequency of sound that he’s used to is quickly forgotten. The natural and human sounds that come from earth may be too loud for him to comprehend at first. This could result in ringing of the ears and muffled noises. Since he was not trapped in space for a prolonged period of time in the escape pod, he will adjust eventually.
If Shadow was able to land on earth safely before GUN Soldiers came to retrieve him, then realistically he'd spend some time recovering from his escape. He wouldn't be moving around a lot. Then again, I'm not entirely sure of his recovery rate in order to say this with confidence. It would only be a matter of time before he was found and imprisoned with his creator by the United Federation. As I've said before, this is all hypothetical.
Jesus Christ this turned really dark... I hope this answers your question.

In SA2 Sonic broke out of a GUN helicopter, caused property damage and even attacked a GUN mech tryna capture him without a second thought even though they're the law enforcement of his world(felonies what are those lol?) mean while Archie Sonic just let the freedumb fighters put cuffs on him and passively accepted his fate when falsely accused of treason (replaying sa2 made me see how ooc this reaction was)
When you're told left and right, for years on end, that Archie was the best Sonic of all time, the deepest and most nuanced portrayal of Sonic's universe, and that the games ain't got shit on it, it can be very jarring to go back and see what it actually consisted of.
Spoiler: shite. A lot of mostly-shite.

What are things you like and dislike about the ShTH morality system and 10 potential endings that come from them? On the one hand I myself like the fact you at least get to explore the various ways the people around Shadow impact him and his actions, but on the other hand, it feels a bit... cheap(?) that canonically the True Hero ending is canon and that is that. There's far too many interesting things Shadow learns about in other stories that do not get brought up in that specific ending, as far as I am aware, but you know more about the game than I do, so what is your opinion on it?🍀
I like the sheer replay value that ShTH has. You can play the game in 326 different ways, and have slightly different experiences every time! That is a big number - I'm not even up to 140 paths played! It's a very cool idea :D a massive improvement over Heroes.
I also find fun to come up with stories for each plot! Like there are 3 paths where you help all of the Chaotix. There are 3 paths where Black Doom takes Shadow to the Black Comet without Shadow having helped him once, which I find hilarious. You can play a path where you help Eggman as many times as you can. You can write a scenario where Shadow rebels against Black Doom's manipulation (The Doom Neutral) to backstab him in the end out of retailation (GUN Fortress Hero) - I had a WIP based on this concept. You can make Shadamy canon :P
The Dark path is a genuinely good story that shows Shadow's tragic corruption at the hands of the player, in my opinion lost among the general ridiculousness of the writing.
I don't like how you have to start from Westopolis again every time. I wish you could select where to branch off. The paths overall are fairly short, depending on the mission they take me around an hour each, but still.
I also don't like how the game never reflects your choices. When you help Black Doom in Lethal Highway and Death Ruins, and he still sics the Black Bull on you, "immersion killing" doesn't begin to describe it. And need I say anything about Shadow suddenly deciding he's n android after Air Fleet Hero and Space Gadget Dark, where he never learns about Shadow Androids? Imagine if Black Doom lost patience with you ask you keep acting heroic, imagine Sonic or Rouge being wary around you if you keep acting evil. If I could remake this game, this would be one of my priorities, along with fixing the enemies' AI so that they only attack you if you deliberately oppose them.
I'm torn on the canonicity of the True Ending. I see the point that it makes the whole game kind of pointless because it basically means none of what you played actually happened (not unlike '06 erasing its own events lol)... but I kinda like it? It's like. a fanfic simulator lmao 😂 yes, Shadow would never go evil again... but what if he did? What events would lead him to that? What if Shadow exiled himself on the ARK, why would he do that? And then you ask yourself, what then? What would happen if Shadow deluded himself into believing he's an android? Those are prompts! We are sitting on a treasure trove of fanfiction but no one cares because huehuehue stupid game with guns!
Anyway, that's the short of it. It's a flawed execution, for sure, but I find it fascinating and perfect for Shadow in particular :)

Replaying Shadow the Hedgehog
Honestly, the Hero path in this game seems like a giant pain, since you have to kill all the guys or whatever, and they're all scattered around. It's still really fun to run around, though, and "I Am... All of Me" is still the best Crush 40 song in the Sonic games.
That's a pretty high bar, I rec it. It's on iTunes, I think.
Also, it kicks Sonic '06 in the teeth. That game isn't even playable.
Yes, I don't play console games. I watch videos of people playing Sonic games, though, because Sonic's great. I think the franchise might be dead, but Sonic kicks ass.
Shadow is the best character, ngl. He's got such a deep backstory, and he's such a badass with his giant pump-action machine gun. It all speaks to me.

So...now that the initial hype (and bewilderment?) for the trailer has largely subsided I would like to give my own personal thoughts on Sonic X Shadow Generations
I'm not happy
In fact after the initial feeling of "holy shit they're actually doing this!?" wore off I got pretty goddamn furious if I'm gonna be honest
Putting aside the fact that I am not the biggest fan of Shadow's game, in fact I can quite comfortably say that I hate it, a sentiment that I confirmed for myself after replaying it for a marathon roughly 2 years ago, so much so that, if it weren't for 06 and Secret Rings existing (and maybe Chronicles as well), it would quite easily be the worst Sonic game to me.
Putting aside also the fact that it is very likely to be written by Mr Ian-I can't work with these Shadow mandates man!-Flynn, whose track record on not only the IDW comic but also Frontiers leaves... quite a lot to be desired, especially when referencing past games is concerned
Putting, once again, aside the fact that what little level design we've seen in the trailer seems to be roughly on the same level as Forces', which should make it at least a tiny bit more inspired than Frontiers' though that's not inspiring much confidence in ME
...why?
Really: why?
Why celebrate Shadow The Hedgehog of all games?
Generations is a celebratory game, a game that, very optimistically, looks back on Sonic's story, both the highlights and yes, even the lowlights, which is why Crisis City was included
However it's one thing to include a level from an infamous game that ruined your reputation as part of your historical celebration while also making it far better than how it was in its original iteration
It's another thing to create a whole seperate story campaign dedicated to revisiting one of the most embarassing entries of Sonic's history, one of the titles that is most responsible for Sonic's reputation going down the drain over the years. And no: I'm not claiming that Shadow's game is the biggest culprit, even before its release Heroes was getting a lot of flack, and as early as the mid 90s, after S3K's release, people were starting to dunk on Sonic a bit. But I think we can all agree that it's when Shadow first appeared with a gun in his hand while cursing like an edgy teen that people collectively agreed that Sonic was now washed out and unsalvageable.
And you know I don't wanna act like this thing is doomed before it's out: it is technically possible that they can deliver something decent both gameplay and writing wise and if they do then I'll eat my own hat and praise it like it deserves!
But I am very doubtful about this, given Sega's quite frankly abysmal recent track record with this stuff, especially in light of Frontiers
And I know: it's just an extra mode bundled with a preexisting good game. Why are you bitching so much?
I'm bitching because this is but a symptom of a larger issue that's been going on for over a decade now, which is Sonic as a series being absolutely dependent on revisiting its past in often half assed ways in an attempt to pander to nostalgic fans rather than, y'know, genuinely and fully moving forward! The actual attitude hasn't really changed in 10 years, it's just that now instead of pandering to the classic elitists they're pandering to the Adventure fans, who will gladly eat this up despite whining for years about nostalgia pandering themselves because all their rhetoric during the past decade was mostly bullshit that can be summed up as "Yeah but they're not pandering to the REAL Sonic aka the one I grew up with!"
There's a part of me that would almost like to praise Sega for "taking it on the chin" so to speak, for wanting to take their chances by revisiting an old, hated game and doing something potentially good with it
But let's be perfectly clear here: Sega's not digging up Shadow's game or SA2 for that matter because they want to redeem them or anything, there are only 3 reasons why they're making this
For the aforementioned Adventure-era pandering, Sega have no doubt noticed that the kids who played Shth back in 2005 have now grown up and love it, while the older fans who bashed it have now largely left the fandom so this game is now free to be used as nostalgia bait
It's Shadow and not only is he so popular that everything with his name attatched to it is bound to sell but his playstyle is 90% Sonic's anyway, so they'll mostly just have to make new animations for him
Sonic Movie 3 is coming and they obviously want to capitalize on it. This game is very clearly for newer fans to serve as a "who this guy is and what his deal is" history lesson
The last 2 reasons are especially obvious because honestly, if they're so adamant on pandering to the Adventure Era nostalgia, then why don't they draw from other, better and more deserving sources?
Why not recreate levels from SA1 and 2 or even Heroes? You can even recreate story scenes from them if you truly want, it would still be pandering but at least stuff like Tails and Amy's character arcs in SA1 are far better written and more respectful to their characters than anything from Shadow's game is towards its own protagonist! Hell why not do something TRULY cool, something that is ACTUALLY unthrodden ground and maybe give us for the very first time 3D versions of levels from the Advance series? Cyber Base and Chaos Angel in 3D anyone? Or maybe the Rush games? With a playable Blaze for the first time since forever? I mean Shadow already had his own DLC episode in Forces and it was pretty ok, why not give someone else their own Episode?
Look: if you like Shadow's game and you like what you see? Good for you, I honestly, genuinely hope that you have a good time
But as for me? A (former?) Sonic fan who hasn't enjoyed anything Sonic related to come out of this entire franchise since 2013 (with the semi exception of Mania and maybe Superstars though I still haven't gotten around to playing it), and who's been extremely cynical of Sega and Sonic Team's way of handling this series? This is just the latest in a long list of nails in the coffin

Ohhhh my god though, re the game clone post, I have a visceral need, a fucking YEARNING for a brave soul to give me a good, polished, snazzy looking Sonic Adventure 2 clone. Preferably with cool looking anthropomorphic characters.
I'm talking that high speed high octane shit
I'm talking the gliding and treasure hunting in a somewhat open 3d environment
I'm talking- well, the mech section can be tweaked. Maybe like if Tails from SA1 had his standard moves but the gun mechanics of the mechs.
DO NOT FORGET the level up items. I swear to christ if you do, THOSE WERE IMPORTANT TO THE AESTHETIC.
God I just. I want it. I draw and write like shit but I will help make one I stg. Maybe make it based on the American wild west, maybe from Chinese or Japanese mythology, maybe give it a strong dusting of Mexican inspiration or heavily inspired by 1001 Nights type stuff (basically Secret Rings if it didn't suck to play.)
I swear I am starving for that type of game again. I could replay SA2, but I want more levels and story.
Please, someone do this and just make it fun and colorful and soulful.

PLEASE, the hyper-specific sonic/rgg content is fuelling my existence, had no idea there was even this much of a crossover between sonic kids and yakuza players LMAO. i was more of a handheld user as a kid so i played rush/rush adventure over 06 and the like, but i went completely off my shits when i walked into the darts bar in y5 and vela-nova started playing, like, hello? my childhood???
for real though, they need to get kiryu and his stupid ass taxi into sonic all-stars racing or whatever it's called. literally they have the perfect opportunity. fukuoka highway-based track with machine gun kiss instrumental as BGM, hire me now sega
(kenzan-kiwami on anon cause it's a sideblog /sweat)
SONIC RUSH VERY good game.... i need to replay it sometime omg. the sonic -> rgg pipeline is proving itself real..... they're both sega ips so at least it makes sense but still... lol.. im glad there are people that enjoy these very specific posts HAHA it's very enabling :]
anytime i dream of kiryu featuring in a crossover moment with other characters i just know the dream'll get shot down on account of kiryu not being a candidate for smash bros being that he doesn't want to hurt women and i mean. even if those 'women' would be anthropomorphic animals me thinks he couldn't even settle for beating them in a race...

Well, in Rouge's case, while I imagine her natural abilities is enough to get the job done at the bare minimum, any gadgets she'd have would just mainly be ones for spy work. {This also applies to those who has specific jobs.} (Unlike Tails, who often has to adapt to whatever problem is going on at the moment. Which would mean modifying or hijacking what he has on the fly. What was once a vacuum can be a flamethrower at any moment. In a way, it can actually make him a bit unpredictable, compared to those who have a specific form of combat. {Sonic's a quick thinker and uses his environment to his advantage, but would you catch him with guns?} He could be demolition, a trapper, defensive wall, setup/diversion or a summons lord. Whatever support is needed at the moment.)
In fairness, Rouge, Charmy and even Cream don't get a lot of opportunities to use their flight much other than maneuvering. Tails is more or less the same spot, be it game or adaption. (It comes down to it being used in different gameplay more, like that one Eggman boss from the original trilogy where he essentially has infinite flight. I think Tails Adventure had one too.) As far as shows which are generally free from game limitations, outside of AOSTH and Boom, they seem very keen on keeping him glued to the ground unfortunately.
What's funnier is that in Sonic X; which predates Lost World by nearly a decade, he actually did this before. At the end the episode where the Chaotix try to pair Tails with Cosmo, just before he returns the trinket she dropped earlier, you see it wrapped up in one of his tails. Just like the toothpick. And this adaption had Sega's hand on it. (And just to throw more tidbits out there: Tails using himself as a fan predates Archie and Mania, from a very old minigame from a popcorn machine. Where you see him fanning the flames, to a point where he slides a bit and has to reposition himself. And depending on how he uses this supposed tornado move in Superstars, it could be a "semi-nod" to the AOSTH episode Tails Prevails. {As well as another hc of mine being fuifilled. Tails being able to blow stuff away just makes sense})
Eye for an eye, it's a fair trade. :P (Heh, been trying to explore interactions that don't get touched on very much. Good place to start is to find a base that strongly supports both and work from there.)
Oh, I meant more like. Why can't Rouge use Tails's gadgets?
I do think Tails rebuilding his weapons on the fly (hehe) is a cool idea, and I could totally see it in a comic or a cartoon, how do you implement it in the games? I guess it's not impossible to come up with an explanation... oh it could be really cool if during the game you found a "base" that you can modify into a weapon of your choice (different ones with different strengths and weaknesses), and it would make people want to replay the game to choose a different weapon and try to beat the levels with it. (Maybe there could be a weapon that is harder to use so you pick it if you want to basically pick hard mode) It all sounds really cool but I'm not sure if we could actually get it in the games though. (Plus Tails being the sidekick can't ever be cooler than Sonic, you know how it is)
I also think Rouge has an advantage here too since she can also glide and maneuver with her wings, while the kids need to constantly flap/spin to stay in the air, so I don't believe they'd be able to replicate her fighting style with all of them cool kicks. (What little we see of Rouge(s) fighting in Prime is well done I think. Tails uses a drone :| But now that I started thinking about it, it's starting to make sense but uh. He's fighting in Boom and the comics though, and I'm already suspending my disbelief by believing he can fly in the first place, soo)
(Also I don't think there's infinite flight in Tails Adventure, in Sky Patrol you're forced to constantly be flying but if you don't replenish your stamina and get tired and fall, you lose)
Nooo way. (I need to rewatch X. Someday). It actually makes me feel better because I love that silly thing and if it was even in X we might see it again, I'm taking it as a win.
Also about Superstars, Sonic and Knuckles just get their regular attacks that they have in Modern Games (punching amd homing attack if I'm remembering correctly); I hope it means that the attacks Amy and Tails get would be added to their modern gameplay later on too. (Also interesting that they're using the clear emerald for this, because in Fleetway it also had special powers compared to others even if it manifested a little differently, it was basically the ME before the ME was a thing)
One thing I find interesting when it comes to Tails and Knuckles, is their interest in history. It makes sense for Knuckles, though seems a bit out of left field for Tails (but alas he must be the exposition fairy even when Knux isn't around), I wonder if Tails got into it because of Knuckles. (Also they're both afraid of ghosts, it's funny).

Wiikend Thoughts
I played a bunch of Wii games with my partner over the weekend. I wanted to record my thoughts on them.
Dead space extraction
This one was pretty fun!
We did just the first chapter
I predicted there would be a level 1 plot twist but it was still pretty cool
I was really impressed by the production quality on this spin-off light gun game
Made me happy as a dead space fan
Might play more, might have to play more alone but this is a fantastic coop title
Really enjoyed the coop hacking mini game
Boom blox
Lives up to the hype!
It is indeed a cute, fun little party game
I was expecting much less gameplay variety
Will definitely have to play more together
Sonic colors
I had beaten before on PC but not tried on original hardware
Frame rate is a little low but you get used to it
Biggest beef here is that shaking the Wii remote for wisps is really awkward
I kept firing the laser wisp prematurely because of that
I found the classic controller to be the most comfortable style for me
The short levels make this game great for taking turns on
Maybe later we will do the game land levels
Elebits
This game has a hilariously long tutorial that basically just explains how to even use a Wii remote at all
Partner found it a bit cumbersome
This was my first wii game so I had a super fun time playing my level
VERY katamari damacy
Satisfying to throw objects around
Does feel like a cross between a game and a toy kind of
Didn’t try multiplayer, not likely to
I find the idea of a DS RPG sequel hilarious
Warioware smooth moves
Kind of disappointing that you have to beat single player to unlock multiplayer, especially here where that would give one player a huge advantage
However, this game is classic, amazing Warioware and even taking turns was a ton of fun
These micro games were all new to me and generally impressed
Just a couple micro games had me utterly confused about what kind of motion they wanted
Wii party
I had played Wii Party U, so this wasn’t a huge surprise
The host is oddly similar to Sebastian Tute from wii music
It was fun to play the ship balance game after seeing it on Nintendo Week (which I recently binged)
We completely failed the friendship compatibility test, literally failed all five questions.
It can be pretty funny to see all your miis constantly featured in the backgrounds of mini games
Wii sports resort
I am just god awful at this game
Wakeboarding, dogfighting, basketball, frisbee, biking, all complete failures for me
I’m okay at archery
Based on how bad I am at skyward sword, I think I am just bad at Wii motion plus
Wii music
I was kind of jamming along, but my partner was not having it
Admittedly, this doesn’t even feel like a retail game release
We also watched the awkward E3 showcase of this game
Wii play
This was the main game my partner requested
I narrowly lost the overall competition
Definitely some fun to be had here but not a strong candidate for replay
I really struggled with the pointer controls on air hockey
Klonoa
Yep, it’s Klonoa!
Pretty neat that this exists at all
Ironically, I think I’d prefer a 3D remake of the GBA games because of their tighter level design
The 2.5D wrapping around feels very modern
Sonic riders zero gravity
Precisely one match was enough for us
Opening cutscene is hilariously long
I may have to come back and play alone since I grew up with this game
Did not understand controls
Goldeneye 007
I had fun, partner did not
This game sure isn’t Goldeneye 64 though, for better or worse
Kind of a baffling Frankenstein game really
Mario Party DS
Played on a DS and 3DS
Cannot believe the multiplayer match survived a car ride with no hitches inbetween rounds
Fun minigames, fun board
Surprisingly legitimate Mario party experience

Akari and Pai were originally non-playable in pre-console release arcade versions of the original game. Unlockable, but unplayable in Arcade and Dream Duel Modes in original game's console version. Available as Extra, post-arcade and console release content. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale OnlineĬharacters who appear for playable characters' Special Moves and Climax Skills. There is a maximum of two trump card icons, and in the event of a loss, one is regained in the next round.Ĭharacter Roster Playable Characters CharacterĪnd you thought there is never a girl online? The lightning symbols above the climax gauges are trump card icons, and using one allows the character to use a powerful counterattack or finishing move. In the image on the right, Shizuo is filling bar four, and Shana is filling bar three. Climax arts are powerful moves that will use up to two bars. An EX special move uses one bar of the climax gauge to execute an enhanced special move. Five climax gauges can be filled and are used in special moves. They take time to charge after use.Īt the bottom of the screen, climax meters fill with time and are boosted with attacking and defending. Blast attacks cannot be used when the box says WAIT. Next to the character icons, boxes read BLAST OK, meaning that each team can use a blast attack to 1) break combos and take less damage, 2) boost the character's ability, or 3) use during a combo attack to send the opponent flying into the air. Underneath the health gauge are two hexagonal victory counters that display a V when a team has won a victory. When full, the bars are blue-green, and when low, the health gauge is red. The bars on either side are the characters' health gauge. Each round begins with 99 seconds, and when time runs out, the character with the most health wins. The timer in the top center counts the round and time remaining. When grey, the assist character is either in play or charging after a move. An assist character can be called out when the assist icon is colored. Seen in the image on the right, character icons identify the main and assist characters on each team.

It features backgrounds from Dengeki Bunko series as well as Sega games, including Sonic the Hedgehog. The game was praised by several critics for being easy to learn and enjoyable for anime and Sega fans. In music mode, some of the game's official soundtrack is also available for listening. Aniquilation Review (PlayStation 4)
Tumblr media
For this Aniquilation Review, we play a twin Stick Shooter Multiplayer Action Game set on small planets that can be terraformed as you play! in which not only your shoots but also the enemies and planet environment are your weapon!
Aniquilation Review Pros:
- Decent graphics. - 2.33GB download size. - Platinum trophy. - Works on Playstation 5. - Shmup gameplay. - Four colored ships each with unique stats for speed, strength, and resistance. - Opening tutorial chapter. - Twin stick shooter controls. - You play on a planet and are able to navigate it thanks to gravity. - Homage to Super Stardust. - Zoom out button to change view. - Hit crystals to change your ammo type like ice and fire to shoot particular rocks. - Sword - used to melee but also the time it to hit small ships away or send projectiles back. - Shield - activated by you holding the button down and this will absorb damage. - Health pods are where you dock, when docked you cannot shoot but you can use a shield and sword. - Earn EXP and level up to increase your stats. - In between chapters you do a bonus round of flying in a tunnel and avoid rocks and collect rewards. Felt like Sonic 2 bonus rooms. - Can play with the d-pad and use the X button for shooting if you prefer. - Flashy explosions, very neon. - Level select and ability to replay levels. - Still image cutscenes. - Can skip cutscenes and interactions. - The goal of each chapter is to basically destroy all the buildings. - Pick up different shot types. - Local Vs mode. - You can drop guns if you don't like them. - Big boss battles. - A handful of levels in each chapter. Aniquilation Review Cons: - Cannot rebind controls. - Ships are just colors. - The slowdown in places. - Boss battles are not straightforward and drag on too long. - So many explosions that it's hard to see what's what. - The bonus part in between chapters is never explained and the colors used make it hard to see and judge pickups. - The tutorial is very lacking. - Some boss fights require buildings or enemies in order to be beaten and you can run out of these! - The D-pad doesn't work in the menus. I have been replaying Sonic Adventure and I think I can pin down just why the Chaos 4 bossfight is so hated.
It’s not just that you have to do it 3 times with different characters, but it’s also because of how all the bosses work in that game. The whole structure of the bossfights can be boiled down to: Dodge attacks, wait for the opening when you can hit the boss only once, rinse and repeat. It’s extremely rigid, and honestly, it’s kind of a chore, especially with how the bosses’ attack patterns get longer and longer as the fight progresses.
And this persists through the later 3D games too. Sonic Adventure 2 had this (with the exception of the GUN mechs) you are forced to wait until the boss stops attacking.
Sonic Generations has this problem tenfold as the first 2 bosses are essentially just glorified scripted events. I love replaying the stages in that game but I wouldn’t touch the Death Egg Robot or Perfect Chaos again even if I was held at gunpoint.
Heroes did better with the bosses as they have a healthbar in that game but there is still the problem that the Eggman bossfights essentially play out the same (and also they just threw that out of the window with Metal Overlord but that’s a different discussion).
This is the one thing that the Classic games have over the Modern ones because in those if you know your tactics well, you can just beat the hell out of the boss once there is an opening.
