Returning Laney College Student Aisha Jordan is doing her part to help better the community by handing out free fruit and vegetables for the Laney College food bank. Every first and third Tuesday they will be out on the quad handing out free food to all students with an active Laney College ID for fall of 2017. It's a beautiful thing. Regarding Aisha Jordan, not only is she a Senator for the Laney Student government but she is also the disability affairs officer for region 3. She was recently selected to represent Laney College at the 47th annual Black Caucus in Washington D.C. which will be held on September 18th. What else is there to be said? The lady is obviously putting it down in a major way. Ever Returning Student- Spring weeks 4-7

    Been a while... things got crazy with weather and trying to make up class time.  During week 4, there was a snow/ice storm that closed the school for one full day and two partial days.  Basically we had class on Monday and Thursday afternoon.  Monday was early lab for one class.  That was interesting as two arrived late and three didn’t even show up.  If they had checked their syllabus they would have seen the early day.  Then again, the instructor did not say anything to remind the class beforehand.  Not really setting the class up for success.  On the Thursday we returned to school there was some debate on when to return.  The school reopened at 11am and the next class was a lab at 1pm.  Four people arrived for lecture at 11am.  There was no correspondence from the instructor to be there.  She just assumed that we would all know to be there. The lecture would have started at 10:30am, but the school did not open until 11am.  To most of us the class was essentially canceled because of when it started and the lack of direction.  Oh well, now we know...     Week 5 we filled with early classes and long days.  It is amazing how much scrambling we had to do to make up a few classes.  This time everyone showed up for the early lab on Monday.  Well, one was late as she was sick.  Nothing extraordinary about the week, just that the days were long and really took a toll on the class.     Week 6 we saw another storm come through.  The school was a bit over cautious this time and was closed for a lot longer.  Monday was an open house for the programs at the college.  After classes I stayed to set up and then got roped into staying a little longer to speak with people interested in the program.  I was finally able to extract myself and head out about 6:30pm.  The school was closing at 8pm due to weather.  When I left it was just starting to rain, more like mist.  Tuesday through Friday the school was closed because of the weather.  We really could have had classes on Tuesday because it was only rain.  After that I was glad that the school was closed.  The roads were all iced over.  Driving was not a safe thing to attempt for a couple of days.     Week 7 was back to slammed classes.  Monday I was not included in the distro list for the freshmen, so I missed out that the early lab was moved to 12:30.  Once I figured that out, I headed back home.  Next class for me wasn’t until 10:30!  Tuesday was supposed to be no classes due to an Advisement Day.  Nope, just a late start to classes with a group advisement slipped in the middle.  Then it was a couple more days of early classes.  I would rather have early days than eat into my spring break.  The quirk in this week was that half the group would be spending time at a shelter while the other half was spread out among clinics in the area.  I was sent to a clinic, by myself.  Trying to take that as a compliment that they trust me enough to send me alone.  I was nervous at first, but the day turned out pretty good.  I am looking forward to going back next week.     I have been frantically studying for a test on Monday afternoon.  The clinic time on Friday ate into my normal studying time.  As I am writing this, I have listened to all the lectures a couple times now.  I also have printed and reviewed my notes.  My brain is a little sloshy and I do not feel confident about retaining the information.  But I need a break and dinner is about ready... so until next time.
