bo, bo, bo.....please please how did revan become Tarre's master?
why is revan in the clone wars now? please how does this f-- up palpatine's plans please. i need to know
the typical way a padawan gains a master actually laksdjfl;sdj revan just Chillin' at a outer rim temple, sees this funky little mando initiate and gets very curious. the fic i'm writing(ish) for it actually goes over t his in more detail
i am assuming though you mean timeline wise! this also answers for tcw: they are just. Immortal for some reason (the Will of the Force, or as Revan says, 'The Force Won't Let Me Die'), a la Legends Jedi Master Fay (though they're older than her, even). I have a lot of issues with the novel and SWTOR's treatment of revan but i'm using the sith emperor using revan as a force battery as the closest thing to an explanation for why they stopped aging.
they actually don't mess up with palpy's plans Too badly at first because like. They're not omniscient, they don't know palpy is the sith lord. they're Sus as Hell but at first just going through the motions of War (and then palpy does get nervous when they are Much better at war than any other jedi).

So I had a thought for an AU
13-14 year old Obi-Wan Kenobi is on Melida/Daan, and he's fighting a guerilla war with an army of children, and everything kinda sucks. There's not enough food or medicine, and the Elders are kinda too happy to keep the war going without any thought as to what comes after.
And, like, okay. Neither do the Young? But Obi-Wan gives them some leeway on account that the oldest member of the Young is 16, and teenagers don't have the best forward thinking even when their healthy, his source? He's also a teenager.
Anyway, things continue as they're meant to, up to certain point, except Qui-Gon never comes back for him. Maybe Obi-Wan's comm never went through, maybe he was on another mission- it doesn't matter. In the end, no one comes to help.
And then Xanatos shows up on Melida/Daan, as if the situation wasn't bad enough. And he comes with an army of slavery, and in the end it doesn't matter if the Melida called him or the Daan, but the ending is the same. Xanatos enslaves everyone.
Well. Almost everyone.
You see, Obi-Wan's best friend was a shadow in training, and some things that Quin definitely didn't teach him because that would be against the rules came in handy.
So Obi-Wan sneaks onto Xanatos' ship- there's no way he's staying along on Melida/Daan- and maybe he can't save everyone, but he can save one member of the young, a younger girl who had been playing medic for the Young, who Xanatos was stashing on his own ship.
It makes a little more sense when he notices that she's very minorly force sensitive. Not enough to be a jedi, but enough to catch Xanatos' attention.
And Obi-Wan doesn't know how or why, but the pair of them manage to remain hidden from Xanatos for as long as it took for the ship to land on the next planet, and they made a break for it.
Eventually, Obi-Wan and Ry, the little medic, make their way to an abandoned Jedi Temple. A temple home to the ghost of former Sith Lord and former jedi master, Revan. Revan, who has an intense loathing for all things sith, was more than happy to drop some hard truths on Obi-Wan and Ry. About the current sith and about Sidious and Plageous, and he lays the responsibility for helping him on their shoulder.
(Look, he's 1500 years old, and Jedi haven't always been the best as to "age appropriate missions" anyway-)
Needless to say, the war starts early, because of Obi-Wan (trained by Revan to be more than a Jedi but less than a Sith) and Ry (bullied into training by the ghost Tarre Vizla).
Well, at least, the commission of the clones begins nearly ten year earlier than it should have.
Ry lands the Nightwing on one of the landing platforms, a doubtful look on her face. "There's no way this is going to work, vod." Ry's Mandalorian now, raised and trained by Tarre Vizla to become the next Mand'alor, though she wants the position about as much as she wants a bullet to the brain.
"It'll work," Obi-Wan, now called Ben, replied as he pulled his hair into a knot on the back of his head, "Do you remember the story?"
Ry rolls her eyes, "Yeah. You're Jedi Knight Ben Evans, you're a Sith who's undercover in the Jedi Order and we're here to claim the Clones for the Jedi."
"And?"
Ry rolls her eyes again, "Ka'ra, you're annoying!" She bites out, "And, we need the biochips deactivated and removed due to splintering in the Seppie army, and we fear the war is going to last much longer than anticipated, so the enhanced aging needs to be reversed."
"And you're going to distract Jango Fett."
"Ugh. That's literally the worst. I don't want to talk to that...that...dar'buir." Ry grumbles.
"But you will?"
"Yes, yes. I remember Revan and Tarre's orders."

Another piece of my Star Wars AU, this time looking at my take on a preexisting character; Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi Knight.
For the purposes of my AU, Tarre's story takes place during the events of the Knights of the Old Republic games and comics, as I quickly became attached to the irony of a Mando Jedi coming into being during the Mandalorian Wars. Around the time Tarre was introduced, I also got attached to a series of headcanons and ideas of that very concept explored by @naaklasolus, which I contributed to via anon messages (this was long before I made this blog). With that out of the way, let's get into character history.
In my AU, Vizsla was born on Mandalore in 3988 BBY, becoming a fully realized Mando warrior just in time for the initial raids of the Mandalorian Wars. However, the young Tarre and many of his clansmen quickly became bothered by the atrocities committed by their people, Tarre's uncle Lord Laax Vizsla specifically taking issue with the actions of the field marshal Cassus Fett. The genocide of Cather was the last straw, the pointless butchery made all the worse by the death of Tarre's cousin Dutoa, who attempted to stop the killing (her mask was later found by Revan when the attack was discovered). Laax lashed out at Fett, but was killed in the ensuing duel, forcing the 15 year old Tarre to flee with a handful of other Clan Vizsla defectors. Valuing Mandalorian ideals ahead of their warmongering leaders, the renegade Mandalorians reluctantly surrendered to the Republic and provided valuable military intelligence. It was during this mission that Tarre's Force-sensitivity was discovered by Revan, who offered to take the young man as a Padawan, an offer he accepted. As the war progressed, Tarre distinguished himself as an incredible frontline commander, while his training under Revan, Alek and Meetra Surik allowed him to develop into a formidable Jedi. However, despite embracing Jedi philosophy, Tarre retained his reverence to Mandalorian ideals, gradually learning to balance the two cultures. At the same time, he began to notice the toll the war was taking on his master and quasi-father figure, a growing darkness growing in Revan that disturbed him. When the Battle of Malachor V arrived, Tarre led the ground battle and personally defeated Cassus Fett in single combat, though the use of the Mass Shadow Generator further worsened his strained relationship with Revan. After the battle, Tarre elected to return to Coruscant with the Republic fleet while Revan and Alek traveled into the Unknown Regions, both to vouch for his masters and be a much-needed companion to the traumatized Meetra Surik. The Jedi Council, despite their reservations about the boy, agreed to let him remain a Jedi and offer him Knighthood. Tarre initially refused in protest to the council's heel-dragging and subsequent scapegoating of Meetra, but Meetra convinced him to stay, saying his can better serve both his people and the galaxy at large as part of the Order. When Revan and Malak returned to terrorize the galaxy, Tarre stepped up to lead the Republic military to counter the Sith. His reputation from the Mandalorian Wars preceding him, the Senate granted him the title of Supreme Commander, the irony of a Mandalorian leading Republic forces not escaping them. During the Jedi Civil War, Tarre suffered several close Jedi friends falling to Dark Side, his own Padawan killed by Sith assassins, and a cruel session of imprisonment and torture at the hands of his former mentor Malak. Despite this, he remained strong and endured, becoming a legend to both the Order and other scattered Mandalorians. Revan's capture and amnesia allowed Tarre to interact with and slowly repair his relationship with his old master, though Revan remained ignorant of the truth until after the confrontation aboard the Leviathan. After Malak's defeat, Tarre joined Canderous Ordo in helping to repair and reorganize the splintered Mandalorian clans, took the redeemed Dustil Onasi as his apprentice and completing his training, and was even invited to join the Jedi Council. However, victory was short-lived for the Mandalorian Jedi, as Tarre's reputation and heroism made him a priority target for the Sith Triumvirate's Jedi Purge. Forced into a confrontation with Darth Sion on Naboo, Tarre Vizsla gave his life to allow Dustil to escape with a ship full of younglings. Tarre Vizsla would be memorialized by both his clan and his Order, the two organizations revering him for his courage, justness, and will.
Other notes; -The Darksaber was built in emulation of the distinct beskad sabers of Clan Vizsla, the clan reknown for producing exceptional swordsmen. Tarre owned his own blade while serving the Mandalorians, but it was appropriated by Cassus Fett after he went rogue and abandoned altogether after Fett's defeat on Malachor. -Despite his sour relationship with the KOTOR era Council as a whole, Tarre eventually became good friends with Master Zez-Kai-Ell, who helped the young man adjust to life on Coruscant after a lifetime of war. -Tarre died in 3952 BBY at the age of 36. He had no children of his own, so leadership of Clan Vizsla went to his second cousin, the great-great-grandfather of Shae Vizla. -Tarre possessed a gift for tinkering and modifying weapons. Aside from the Darksaber, he also constructed a shoto short lightsaber calibrated to resemble the kal daggers carried by Mandalorian Crusaders. -Naturally for a Jedi coming from a martial society, Tarre was an exceptional lightsaber duelist, mastering Forms 1, 2, and 4 alongside Jar'Kai dual blade fighting. -Tarre is not particularly gifted with Telekinesis, but he compensates by focusing on Control and Sense based Force abilities; Healing, energy diffusion, and various subtle telepathic powers are his specialties. -One of Tarre's lasting ambitions was to aid considerably in rebuilding and resettling the Cathar people, his way of making amends for his peoples' actions. -Tarre's dying words were "Ogir cuyir nayc kyr’am, ogir cuyir te Force" ("There is no death, there is the Force" in Mando'a)

i was rereading the verse with the mandalorian empire and in-hiding jedi n i was curious- do you have any world building details you'd like to share? i find that particular setting really interesting (it's the secret identities, love that stuff)! thank you for sharing your writing, it's truly a joy to read :]
Mm, I'm trying to leave myself some wiggle room in case I want to wander off on a tangent, but at this exact moment:
- The basic premise of the AU is that Revan from the KotOR games was revealed as a former Jedi very early on, so the Jedi got blamed for a lot of what happened when he was fighting the Republic. There ended up being an attack on the Jedi Temple by people within the Republic that killed a lot of Jedi, and rather than stay and risk more people being massacred, the Jedi disappeared in the middle of the night and scattered.
- Generally, Jedi don't meet in big groups, and they tend to be wanderers more often than not. One or two from separate lineages will come together once in a while, but otherwise Jedi who don't have a reason to know each other that can be proved will stay separate.
- There are places where large groups of Jedi gather, but they're incredibly secret and only the oldest Masters tend to know when they're happening and where they'll be. It's the kind of thing that only happens once or twice in any given Jedi's lifetime, but when it does happen in a way that can be hidden well - usually on Ilum or places entirely outside the Republic - It's a thing of pure joy.
- There's no longer any sort of division between youngling and padawan - given how wary the Jedi are of being discovered, and the fact that they just don't exist in any real way to the galaxy at large, any Force-sensitive child who is at risk/under threat is taken and quickly trained on at least the basics of control. Ironically, in this AU, the Jedi are a lot closer to being child-snatchers than in canon, though generally the children they find are older and can make the choice to go with them themselves.
- Lineages are just How Jedi Work here. Direct teacher-student lines have reasons to gather, so they do, and that's most Jedi's interaction. Lineages come back together to greet new padawans, celebrate changes, mourn deaths, and a lot of Jedi go their entire lives without meeting any other Jedi not related to them.
- This is one of those ideas I've been playing with that may get shifted around a lot, but. Tarre was still Mand'alor, and also still a Jedi, and as far as anyone in the wider galaxy is aware, Fay was his wife who disappeared in grief after his death. There are still sightings of "Lady Fay" in the space tabloids even a thousand years later, Elvis-style.

kotor fic ideas that currently live rent free in my head
mando!revan au, i talk about this one a lot but the basics are revan was raised by the mand'alor instead of being republic born (currently in progress)
revan bastila and malak are reincarnated as aspects of the force to replace the father son and daughter (in progress but i haven't worked on it in a while)
exile!tarre fic: the exile is tarre vizsla who is adopted into the mandalorian clans after being severed from the force (plotted mostly but not at all written)
kotor prequel tv show: basically the rise and fall of darth revan, i have 3 seasons planned and leitmotifs exist as well as a few major scenes (in progress!)
sith!exile: meetra chooses revan and malak instead of going back to the jedi council (partially plotted, just going off vibes)
canderous & malak angsty parallel fic: revan has heard people promise to follow them through light and dark before (again, just vibes here)
sad sad sad 5 + 1: the people who betrayed revan and the one who never did (plotted but not written)
everyone figures out who revan is before they do and nobody tells them for a variety of reasons, the only funny fic idea i've ever had (i have some dialogue)
the other revan & tarre concept: they're the same age and trained together, tarre is ultimate's immediate successor (plotted but not written)
part two: not at all started
something something atris x exile lovers to enemies
fluffy bastila revan and carth are best bros raising a kid together
lesbianism by juhani preface by visas marr

more doodling for my ‘revan trains tarre vizsla’ au train.  they are simultanously exact opposites and very similar akljsdflk;asdj
revan is 5′4 and Tarre is like 6′6. revan weighs nothing to his very large very strong son.  they have absolutely fastball special’d revan on assignments before.  it works every time
tarre has some mysterious non-human ancestry that manifests in hair that literally is metallic silver and dark sclera.  this is mostly so I could say there is old mandalorian heroic poetry about ‘his hair doth shone of beskar, and his gaze reflects the stars yonder - he speaks with the voice of the ka’ra and the ground quakes on his approach’ (revan fucking losing his mind any time he reads this stuff.  shows it to Tarre’s holocron like ‘can you believe what they write about you still lol’)
the shriek-hawk symbol of house vizsla actually started as a simplified version of the jedi crest, that over time became more and more mandalorian-ized into what we see in TCW.

alright tonights Tarre Question Number 2:
Was Tarre born a thousand years before the clone wars / mainline films (around the Rusaan Reformation, Army of Light),
OR born three thousand years before the clone wars, closer to the Mandalorian Wars, but more accurately before SWTOR game era?  Thoughts???

What is the stupidest thing that Tarre did in any of your AU's?
the only real AU i have with Tarre is the "revan trained tarre" au (other than a potential ghostly appearance re: something about terraforming mandalore) but lets face it a mandalorian jedi padawan had to get up to some NONSENSE
he did fastball special his master into a group of angry sith once, that was fun (they do the fastball special with Regularity but that was a memorable one LMAO)
also upon his first visit to Coruscant (age 17 or so), in the five minutes between his master going to find snacks and coming back, he wormed his way into one of the Chancellor's meetings and basically told them to fuck off without realizing who he was talking to. it all worked out in the end but Revan lords it over Tarre constantly.
("You told the Chancellor of the Republic, 'Kote lo'shebs'ul narit!' Force, I wish I had done that! I wish I had it on Video!!!! I want to shove it in the Council's face!" "master please that was thirty years ago" "yeah but you've said that to your clan chieftains lately too haven't you!!")

tarre has funky green / red eyeballs because something something taung ancestry.  he’s also a solid foot and a half taller than revan (then again.  revan is like 5′2, so it all balances out. the bendu, if you will)
Tumblr media
90% of their relationship is revan saying something and tarre being like “what the kriff how do you know all this”

Excerpt from "Echoes Long Unheard"
if you're unfamiliar with my aus. Echoes is a "what if revan (kotor) trained tarre vizsla" au that spiraled wildly out of control.
not a Ton is written yet, but here's an excerpt of tarre's early days in his first jedi temple....
Dantooine is a beautiful place, with rolling hills and grasslands and aiwha (Brith, they’re called)  that echo across the plains at night.  Initiate Shan says it’s very peaceful, that their great-great-great-grandmother trained here in her youth, and that it makes them feel connected to their past, to their people.
Tarre thinks about home, the deep dark verdant jungles and incessant noise, the energy of vibrant life under his feet at all times.  He thinks about his mother taking him on his first hunt, and how the death of the shatual fed back into the life around it, how his mother taught him to use each life to its fullest.  She sat and listened as he babbled away about how many pinpricks of life he could feel, how noisy everything was if he paid attention to it.
He thinks about how empty Dantooine feels in comparison, how the temple he lives in sits on an aching wound of death and malice it seems like only he can feel, an endless, quiet echo in the Force.  He thinks about how his mother dropped him off at the gates one day, trying not to cry, and told him she would not see him again.  He grasps for the peace all his classmates carry with them, and it slips through his fingers.
Initiate Shan says a lot of things.

x y and z for tarre please
X. X-ray: Does your OC believe that they’re a good person? Would you consider them a good person?
oh my god Tarre's morality is..... she's a war criminal but she cares about people a whole lot and considers the caring-about-people part worth the war criminal part. It's important to consider both moral standards she considers - by Jedi standards, she's, well, horrible but she's also almost the perfect Mandalorian. I don't consider her a good person, not one bit, but I don't consider her a bad person either. She's just an incredibly complex person trying to make her way in the universe.
Y. Young: How has your OC been influenced by their past? Are they a better person because of their past, or a worse one?
There's no greater influence on Tarre than their past with the Jedi - and their time as a Mandalorian general - and their Jedi training is one of the reasons they haven't Fallen completely. It's a huge part of who they are, just as much a part of them as they are Mandalorian - Tarre learned control and strength from the Jedi, learned the nature of the Force. So I'd say they're definitely a better person for being raised Jedi (i've got a whole au where they aren't given to the Jedi and end up being found by the Sith) even considering certain moral failings (*cough* revan *cough*) of the Jedi of this era.
Z. Zealous: Does your OC have any guilty pleasures? If so, what? (Watching reality TV, drinking soda, reading cheesy romance novels, etc.)
tarre vizsla watches cheesy war holodramas i cannot hold it in any longer!! she will take any opportunity to criticize their tactics but she will still enjoy it!! (also whatever the mandalorian version of sound of music is. yeah)
