Obviously I'm a "Iruka was being groomed to be the hokage/some other political position" truther but I'm also a "if Kishimoto had kept the setup for Iruka being a secret jounin level badass the Pain arc would've been the perfect time to reveal it by having him go toe-to-toe with Pain when the village was attacked" truther

Like yeah yeah Kakashi saving him as is was great and all but please walk with me and imagine a world with these possibilities instead:

Iruka saving Kakashi's life and fighting Pain to protect him

KakaIru teamup on Pain

Iruka going toe-to-toe with him and getting taken out right as Naruto shows up to see his brother-figure die [everyone gets brought back to life anyway at the end so we can have this]

Counter to the above: Iruka holding off Pain's assault and getting saved by Kakashi only when he's on his last legs and is about to collapse [classic "catches them mid-fall" trope and could lead to Kakashi killing one of the six paths now they're weakened]

This one is for the barrier nin Iruka lovers: he puts up a barrier to protect a civilian area and the only way to bring it down is to knock him out so the whole time he's getting beat on he's maintaining the barrier long enough for everyone to evacuate

There's undoubtably other ways you could fit in such a reveal but I truly think the Pain arc works best from a narrative perspective given how closely tied Iruka is to the very foundations of the village

do you think orochimaru would also teach sakura about the Byakugou (even if he didn't have the full knowledge of it, but let's be real it's orochimaru, he'll find a way to acquire the full detail on it😭)? bcs orochimaru is obsessed in immortality right, and while byakugou doesn't makes you an immortal, it did gave you an ability to heal from anything and the user can't die when the seal is active

Honestly, I don't think so. At least, not in this AU (plus, as you can see from the new drawing, I already gave the Byakugou to Sasuke xD)

And speaking about Orochimaru knowing how the Byakugou functions, I think they mention in Boruto that he does know since he has researched it extensively. However, in this AU he hasn't done so (I'm not even sure how he is researching about it in Boruto, tbh. This is not a bloodline or a random jutsu, this is something that takes a crazy amount of chakra control to create)

And this might be entering into AU territory (as if we are not there yet lol), but I headcanon that the Byakugou is linked to the slug summons, so only those who have signed the conctract can truly use it (plus, Tsunade invented the Byakugo and I don't think she's sharing the info with Orochimaru tbh xD)

But no worries, Orochimaru actually has big plans for Sakura 👀. I assure you she will learn from him more than just how to use the Curse Mark effectively and look badass.

Almost Kiss

Fall is Obi’s favorite time of year. The weather takes a turn for the chilly and Shirayuki breaks out a couple of truly the ugliest turtlenecks Obi has ever seen. Sometimes, if he’s lucky, there’s an early cold snap and Shirayuki borrows a hoodie from him when he walks her back from her last class - because of course he insists on walking her back and of course he insists he isn’t even cold, miss, you take it - and she always returns it the next day, freshly laundered, smelling like her detergent. It’s truly the little things that sustain him. 

Spring is Obi’s strangest time of year. Specifically this spring. In which Shirayuki is giving him her zip-up sweatshirt to wear. 

“I’m fine!” Obi says because, despite evidence to the contrary, he is. His message is slightly undercut by the hacking cough that would’ve made him double over if he hadn’t already been lying on Shirayuki’s absurdly soft couch. But that’s just bad timing more than anything. 

“Tell that to the virus currently ravaging your body,” Shirayuki says. 

“My body has not been ravaged in a long, long time,” Obi says. “Seriously. I don’t get sick. It’d take a lot more than some punk cold to take me down.” 

“You’re already down,” Shirayuki says. She picks up her sweatshirt and dangles it over his face, then drops it back on his chest. “Now, put this on. It’s drafty out here. Unless you think you can make it to my room?” 

“What’s in your room?” 

“My bed.” 

Obi turns his head. The room turns slightly slower. Once everything is in sync again, he blinks at Shirayuki. She stares back.

“I want you to know that I find this situation to be very sad,” Obi says. 

“Okay,” Shirayuki says. 

Obi wrestles his way into her hoodie. The arms are snug and it just barely zips, but it’s not so tight he’s afraid to bust a seam every time he moves. He pulls the hood up because he’s already in for a penny anyway and Shirayuki was right about it being drafty out here. Maybe she’d called him over to fix that. 

“Hey,” he says. “What did you call me over here for?” 

“It’s not important. I can tell you later.” 

“You can tell me now. I’m listening.” 

“You’re sleeping.” 

“Nah.” 

“You should be.” 

The comforting weight of Shirayuki’s scratchiest wool blanket settles over his shoulders. It doesn’t do much to cut through the chill he feels deep in his bones, but he appreciates it anyway. He thinks he tells her so, but everything has taken on a fuzzy edge and he soon slips into a fitful sleep.

He floats to the surface of consciousness when the front door opens and the overhead light flicks on. 

“Oh, shit,” Yuzuri says. “Obi?” 

He rolls over and pulls the hood tighter over his eyes. 

“Sorry, dude.” 

The next time he hears her speak, she’s deeper in the apartment. Shirayuki’s room, he’d guess. 

“Tonight didn’t go well, huh?” 

Shirayuki’s answer is quiet, and he can only barely make out, “He’s sick.” 

“Not sick!” he yells back. It’s muffled by the back couch cushion and sleep. None of it is helping his case. 

“Oh, dude,” Yuzuri yells back. “You are gonna be so upset in a month when Shirayuki finally works up the courage to-”

A slamming door cuts off whatever the end of that sentence was going to be. Fortunately, Obi does not have it in him to care what Yuzuri is yelling about most days, so his curiosity does not keep him up.

His fever breaks sometime after dawn. Rain patters softly outside as Shirayuki patters softly around the kitchen. He knows it’s Shirayuki from the way she refills the Brita filter and the fact that she isn’t making the most noise any human has ever made before. He sits up as she sets a glass of water and a bottle of aspirin on the table next to him. He downs half the glass in the time it takes for her to take a seat on the cushion he just freed up. 

“How are you feeling?” she asks. 

Now there’s a complicated question. He’d worked his way past the worst of his crush on her long ago. He gave up trying to fight it and let it just be. There’s a sort of peace in the unrequited because he knows exactly where he stands with her. Still, though, there are moments when the peace fades and an ache takes its place. He dares anyone to look at Shirayuki - bathed in the soft, gray light of a rainy morning, hair a little sleep-mussed, eyes warm - and feel anything different. 

He lets none of that slip, of course. He’s basically a professional repression artist at this point. Instead, he says, “I feel kind of like a gross sausage.” 

Shirayuki feels his forehead with the back of her hand and says, “You don’t have a fever, so at least you’re not a cooked sausage.” 

“Small favors.” 

A door creaks open, and Yuzuri asks, “Did I hear talk of breakfast meat?”

“Please,” Obi says, “come join our private conversation.”

“If you want,” she says, purposefully misunderstanding him. “Let’s roll. Suzu’s already on his way to IHOP.” 

“Can I shower first?” 

“Sure. You think you can manage alone, or do you want Shirayuki to give you a hand.” “Very funny,” he says. He makes a beeline for her room instead of the bathroom and says, “I’m stealing your boyfriend’s clothes.” 

“We’re a regular sisterhood,” Yuzuri says, which is as much permission as anything he supposes.

It’s not until after breakfast that Obi remembers to ask Shirayuki why he wanted to talk to him in the first place. 

“Oh. That,” Shirayuki says. “I was going to ask if you wanted to study together.” 

Even if Shirayuki didn’t suck at lying - she does; so bad - they study together all the time. She would’ve asked him to come study, not if he was free to come over. He’s wildly curious, but he also knows what it’s like to not be ready to talk about something. It feels a little off-balance for Shirayuki to be the one with the secret, but he feels like he owes her given how many times she’s let him slide before. 

“Okay,” he says, taking her at her word. “Let’s do it.”

Something about Izuku I keep thinking about is how much he's a downright hypocrite and the only reason he isn't called out on it is because he's one for himself and not for others and at the core of it all it boils down to his pending childhood issues and the *vaguely gestures* "relationship" he and Katsuki have- I mean, just out of the top of my head:

Wants to be a strong and dependable hero but is at his weakest when he's alone.

Says to Himiko he would never hurt someone he loves but was the reason Katsuki was forced to dance with death until his own sacrifice. Hell, I'm expecting him to actually accidentally hurt Katsuki (Physically? Emotionally? You decide) next time they talk.

Wants to save people with a smile but barely cracked genuine ones during his battle with Tenko- I can think of two(?), and even then those felt more like a resignation (379 and 412 iirc) than actual smiles.

Being aware Kacchan's a jackass, fine, but the entire "Imitate the people you love/admire" themes, having an attitude when heated or absolutely Done with anyone's BS (makes sense for someone who grew up besides a kid in the Inferiority-Superiority Complex but still) and "This is a battle between All For One and One For All, you can't keep up" is still very much pot calling the kettle black (it's because his "arrogance" is rooted in selflessness and desire to be useful but that's for another day)

Deadass called All For One out for being a lonely man pretending to be a "Demon Lord" yet will not admit he himself thinks a he's just a lonely kid pretending to be a hero; and by the time he seemed to be growing out of it: Paranormal Liberation Front.

"IT'S YOUR POWER, ISN'T IT?!" Cool, nice of him to comfort Shoto and try the same with Touya, now if only he could do the same in regards to himself and OFA-

Wasn't able to connect with Tenko at all and that's why he failed but it's wild to me he'd still the one who even at surface level could relate to):

Spinner, because they're nerds who were ostracized based on Quirks/lack thereof looking for a purpose and were unable to help him because of AFO's interference;

Himiko, because they want to be like others (because they hate themselves at least a little bit) but also show love in a way others wouldn't accept and;

Touya, because they wanted to prove they could be useful to others and be heroes to the point of actively harmed themselves while using their own Quirk.

Hell, when you think about it he related to the crying child but he could've used Literally Anything from his relationship with Katsuki to try and reach Tenko, but of course he didn't, that means he'd have to think about his own issues and yet he saw Tenko's issues no wonder he didn't get the job done-

Also can we talk about him saying he relates to Ochako confronting Himiko but she actually succeeded- Or even Shoto wanting to forgive Endeavor; I keep recalling both Ch. 322 him saying he won't forgive Tenko for anything he did (understandable but still) and Tenko going "And I won't forgive anyone". Connecting these three instances are huge stretches, I know, but really, he hasn't addressed the apology he got- combined narrative punishments for empty platitudes.

Kept saying he needed to improve in his control with OFA: had to get beaten up during his internship and in the Summer Camp for that lesson to stick... Then he heard the words "Control Your Heart" and decided to Not Address It At All.

Supposed to surpass but he's really All Might's successor in every way that counts: Smile so nobody will worry, keep fighting even though you are destroying yourself, be so selfless you'll make your friends desperate enough to make you stop for your own good, hide every single thing you can about yourself, the only difference is in the bed they made: Toshinori lies in omission most of the time, and Izuku thinks he lies in white when almost every other character's in the dark, but as long as there's a dream of bright smiles in the future, who cares they're now forcefully entangled in this nightmare, right?

And these are just the examples I can think of the top of my head, there might be more, but. No wonder we've been "panicking" (let's be real his therapist already scheduled him for Ground Beta atp-) Shoto and Ochako brushed him off by accident in Chapter 425, it's the consequences of his hypocritical ass coming back to bite him-

(I am not hating on him, by the way, it's just something about him I wanted to point out. I like that aspect of his. Makes him more human. But jeez can someone call him out and make him practice what he preaches? XD)
