Meet my nonbinary OC SEED ranger, Ari!

In the fic I’m writing, they take the place of Alice/Ares. Ari’s name is based on their original Japanese names, Arisu and Aresu. They like both of the rookie outfits, but I plan on giving them this gender-neutral uniform later in the fic to acknowledge their ascension in SEED’s ranks when they become truly recognized as Scarlett’s equal. (I imagine only upper-ranking SEED rangers are allowed to wear green. Junior rangers wear pink/blue).

Ari’s favorite things include taming monsters (gotta catch ‘em all!) and crafting all the things. They get very upset if you don’t practice self-care, so make sure to drink water and get enough sleep.

Rune Factory English Voice Actors/Actresses:

I’m a huge fan of Rune Factory. It seems sort of niche bc when I ask other gamers (I’m a casual gamer, don’t ask me to be on any teams 😂) about it they don’t really know what it is. One of the things I love about is is how they get these huge voice actors for the games, which seem so small (but I know it isn’t, it’s sold hundreds of thousands of copies)

So, what the heck is Eliza?

Let me tell you!

(Spoilers for RF5 and slight spoilers for my upcoming fic, Who Remembers a God, but I’ve been sitting on this for a while and I wanna share it. Also I use it/its pronouns for Eliza, but I figure it is fine with any pronouns)

As we know from RF4, Saint Eliza in that game is a mailbox that gained sentience possibly because of the power of the Sharance Tree. It’s not stated who built it, but my theory is that it was Ventuswill, which I will elaborate on in a bit.

In RF5, it’s not explained why Eliza can talk to the MC or what its purpose is beyond being a convenient gameplay mechanic to improve the town. However, we do know that it has a familiar relationship with Livia, who it calls Livvy. And we know she’s the Divine Dragon of Light, Lumenevia.

My headcanon is that all of the Divine Dragons are capable of building divine simulacra - sentient constructs that can perform miracles given certain conditions. These simulacra allow the Divine Dragons to more easily benefit the areas they watch over by drawing upon the positive runes generated by the land/people they’re in charge of, rather than solely their own powers. Given the lore we learn about gods because of Lucas’ backstory, we know that miracles are specifically created through the coalescence of positive runes. True gods like Lucas naturally emit positive runes at a fairy steady rate, but happiness increases the output.

Do you see where I’m going here yet?

As the MC, players create positive runes not through divine nature, but hard-won acts of service. RF4 calls positive runes “Princess/Prince Points.” RF5 calls them “SEED Points.” The point system is how Saint Eliza quantifies the positive runes that the MC generates in their daily tasks. Being an Earthmate, they are allowed a similar amount of authority as the Divine Dragons in their ability to decide what miracles should be performed with the accumulated positive runes. (Yes, I know Dolce can hear Eliza too, but she’s not allowed access to the system because she doesn’t have the Divine Dragons’ or Mother Earth’s blessing. I imagine Dragon Priests’ could be granted permission, but that’s an entire different conversation about religion instead of magic systems).

Unlike true gods who have to be careful about how many positive runes they emit because of the dangers of attracting too many negative runes to themselves, the positive runes collected by Saint Eliza is simply a system of rerouting what was already present in the area. The MC’s actions to generate those runes requires hard work, and usually their fair share of bad luck. Consider for example that the MC can get points for banishing monsters — every time the MC is injured, that’s the result of negative runes, a natural consequence. Rather than allowing the benefit to stay out in the wild (keeping monsters away from that area for a longer period of time), the runes are moved into town and manipulated to cause specific improvements. Through the Divine Dragons or the MC’s direction, Eliza performs miracles.

And so, this is why Eliza is a Saint.

apparently there’s dummied out romance dialogue for Misasagi in the code for RF5 because of cancelled plans for DLC that would add her, Terry, Livia, and Radea as romance options….I’ve never felt so disappointed in my life

Yeah, I’ve been sitting on this for a while, but here are some of my favorite ships in RF5.  Granted, I’m pretty open to anything in this one, but this is the stuff I’d actively be looking for if I was reading, or what I’d write about.

For Ares/Alice, my favorite marriage candidates would be Beatrice, Ryker, Murakumo, and Reinhard.  Priscilla if I wanted to delve more into the angle of their meeting as kids.  I’m fairly okay with anyone else, though I see Fuuka as too young mentally and more see her as their younger sister.  Cecil’s a fringe case on that too though I’m a bit more lenient with him.

Ships not involving Ares/Alice...

Cecil/Priscilla Really find this one very interesting after Martin’s first event where they both lament their different issues with their older siblings.  He also gets her a birthday present, something usually only done with close family/friends (and rivals who want to prank each other).  Honestly, I think the only reason she (and Lucy) don’t reciprocate is the number of people who already give to Cecil.

Cecil/Lucy He also gets her a birthday present.  Both are also very energetic and hard working, yet also know how to kick back and have fun.  I can also definitely see Cecil being a cool big bro to Julian.

Cecil/Scarlett Mostly due to the fact that BOTH of them give each other birthday presents, and the combined interest in puzzles.  The age difference is also not as bad considering Scarlett is half-elf and is gonna live a longer life anyway.

Martin/Scarlett These two are both diligent to the point of being unable to relax sometimes (Martin’s always working super overtime with multiple dialogs telling him to freaking get some rest, Livia’s birthday dialog for Scarlett says how she wanted to give her a day off but Scarlett went on patrol early before she could say so).  The rule-followers of town with little flexibility for other characters’ (mostly Ryker’s) shenanigans.  Though I’d like to think that, by the time they got together, their encounters with the protagonist have given them a bit more chill.

Reinhard/Beatrice Feeds my Loyal Knight/Royalty kink.  Also, Beatrice seems enamored by the thought of forbidden love between a princess and knight, so let’s have her fantasy come true for her.

Ryker/Ludmila Both live by much different rules than others (he as a descendant of a line of noble bandits, her as a succubus who doesn’t want to hurt people).  They’re the most likely to step out of line and get in trouble for it.  Also willing to throw out a little innuendo (especially Ludmila).  There’s also some dialog where she gives him a potion to help him stay awake, and he helps her with her plans during the King’s Game events.

Murakumo/Ludmila Less on personality/plot/connections, more I find the thought of a were-animal and succubus having kids interesting.  Wonder what that would be like.

Scarlett/Ludmila One is the biggest prude in town.  The other, is as innuendo laden as possible while still keeping the game rated T.  Yeah, mostly a comedy crack ship rather than something I’d write in a serious fic.
