In which Lee Dong Wook’s promotional team present him with ridiculous Tale of the Nine Tailed-themed questions to answer (and the occasional embarrassing line to perform). Full transcription below the cut.

Intro

Then, now in earnest we’ll... (breaks down laughing at himself). Don’t I talk a lot? Right? I mean, every week they release a behind the scenes video, right? And in all of them it’s just me talking the whole time. Of course, I really sort of joked around a bit on set. Well, not a bit. I joked around a ton on set, with the staff and the with the other actors, I did have fun playing around a lot and I did that but...I mean I was just talking so much, all by myself [in the BTS]. It was to the extent that I thought, ‘Hey, what’s with this? Is that why I was so exhausted?’ (chuckles). Yes (chuckles more). I’m a chatterbox, a chatterbox, a chatterbox.

Well, in any case, we’ve now had free talk for about 40 minutes (chuckling at himself), so now we’ll start the first activity prepared for me by my promotional team in earnest.

[Looking to his staff] What might the first activity be? [Staff shoves a box full of folded slips of paper towards him silently]. (Breaks into laughter) [To the staff] Well what is this? [*silence*] (Bursts into a fit of laughter watching the staff) No, it’s not that, it’s just, will you die if you talk here? No, everyone, it’s fine if you talk. Everyone, promotional team...

[To the viewers again] Right now there are five members of my promotional team in front of me, six including my manager, but they won’t say a single word (laughing), like people who will die if they speak. [To his staff] I just have to pick one? Ah, if I pick one I’ll naturally understand? Understood. Then I’ll, (more laughter). In that case, I’ll pi- (bursts into another fit of laugher). Understood. Then I’ll pick one.

[Selects a paper] Okay! I picked one. They’re telling me that if I pick one I’ll naturally come to understand, so I picked one. [Holding the paper up] I see, it’s a VS game.

Q: Who is the strongest whiner? [0:39:48~]

A. Sajang who is whining to give him the Chinese lantern plant - VS - B. Yoo Ri who is whining to save Lee Rang-nim

(Laughing) [To his staff] Yah~ the question is really cute. Did you all prepare this? Oh, I see. This is cute.

[Re-reads the question] I think, in any case, for this one, I can’t help but think that Sajang who is whining to give him the Chinese lantern plant is the strongest whiner. I mean, as a human being, if you’ve lived for hundreds of years isn’t it enough already? While torturing people, while eating the Chinese lantern plant, do you really have to cling to life? I can’t help but think that... (trails off)

Ah, and Eom Hyo Seob-sunbae who plays Sajang acted together with me in Life [2018], so when I met him again this time I was happy to see him. In Life he was the head of the Cancer Center, and I was a fellow in the Emergency Medical Center, so on set I used to call him ‘Mr. Cancer Center Chief’ (laughing). I would be like, ‘Mr. Cancer Center Chief, you’re here!’ like that. Well, in any case, there was that behind the scenes, a very slight, a very slight TMI.

[Note: Sa-jang-nim is actually just his job title meaning ‘head of a company’ while ‘Am-center-jang-nim’ means ‘head of the Cancer Center.’ LDW was basically using his title from Life instead of his title in TotNT.]

(Clears his throat) Okay then I’ll pick the next one. [Pulls another slip] I’ve picked it. [Spends a second debating where to place the box of questions]. I’ve picked one.

Q: Which scene was the most moving to Lee Yeon? [0:41:33~]

A. The scene where he saved Ji Ah after he returned in a near-death state from the Knife Mountain Hell - VS - B. The scene where he went to save Lee Rang who stood on death’s door in the Forest of the Starved

Yah, but for this one, isn’t the question framed wrong? In this case, these kids were the ones who were moved by me, weren’t they? (Laughs)

[Looking at his staff] No? Oh, talk! Please just talk! (Dies laughing)

[Looks back at the viewers] For this, I would have to ask these two though? I’d have to ask these two, for this one, I think that rather than Lee Yeon being moved, these were scenes where these two were probably moved by Lee Yeon. But in any case, the ending to episode 4 here and the ending of episode [8] where I go to save Rang-ie, they’re both meaningful. They’re iconic scenes that you can’t miss in our drama, they’re precious scenes, so I like both of them.

[Reading the live chat] I’m not going to call them. Those two are both busy people who each have their own lives so for me to suddenly call them would be an irresponsible thing to do. For today’s VLIVE, please just be satisfied watching me. I’m not going to call Kim Beom-ssi or Jo Bo Ah-ssi.

If you had to have one as a morning desert, would you choose: ‘meal worms that taste like mint chocolate ice cream’ ‘aish~ (laughing). [Knocks over the white board and fixes it] Okay, ‘mint chocolate flavored meal worms’ or, ‘meal worm flavored mint chocolate ice cream’? (chuckling - 3rd gif).

[To his staff] Who’s ever tried eating meal worms? What do they even taste like, meal worms?

Ah what’s with this~ How am I supposed to choose one of these? (Ponders the question for a bit) So I’ll choose B. Meal worm-flavored mint chocolate ice cream. (Sighs) Don’t you think it would at least be better to be eating ice cream? Rather than eating insects that taste like mint chocolate, I’ll eat ice cream. (Shaking his head) Ah~ that’s hard.

[Reading the live chat] Oh, it tastes nutty? Eh? You tried eating it? You’re saying you tried eating meal worms when you were seven? Who would try eating meal worms? There’s a lot of interesting people...

[Selecting another paper] Okay, next.

Q: If you had to dispose of one of your abilities which would you choose? [0:45:25~]

A. The ability to control nature - VS - B. The teleportation ability to move anywhere in an instant

Wah~ You can’t miss out on either of them though? Ah~ There’s nothing more appealing than the ability to teleport. Everyone, please think about it. How much time each day do we loose on the road? On our way to school, on our way to work, getting off work, going to cram school. If you save that time, you can get that much more sleep, right? That’s a really big [merit]. And think about it. When coronavirus ends and you can travel abroad again. Then you can use teleportation to go abroad instantly. You don’t have to spend like 14 hours on a plane.

The ability to control nature, how cool is this? This is really something that not just anybody can do. (Sighs while pondering the question again) Even so, if I had to give up one of them...I would give up my ability to teleport. I would use my ability to control nature and like...make it rain when there’s a drought, or make the rain stop when it rains too much, make the wind blow where there’s need of wind, that’s how I’d like to use my power. That’s what I’d do, yes.

[Talking to his staff] Oh~ you guys really did a good job coming up with difficult and weird questions. Really, the promotional team’s performance right now is really beyond my expectations. [Looking at a member of his staff] (chuckles) You really don’t ever smile, do you? (Laughing) Okay, continuing on, then...

Mission: “Don’t fly away. Your puppy will cry.” [0:47:15~]

‘Don’t fly away, your puppy will cry.’ [Looks to his staff] What’s this? You’re telling me to do this? (Looks at the paper for a while) You’re telling me to do this? Ah, this one’s a mission? So there’s not just VS questions, huh?

[To the viewers] Today, before doing the VLIVE, they told me about this corner and asked if I wanted to see the game ahead of time, and I said ‘I won’t. It’ll be more fun if I’m seeing it for the first time,’ but now I’m wishing I’d looked at it in advance. (Looks at the paper and sighs)

[To his staff] I have to do this like in the drama, don’t I? Is that right? (Laughs hollowly and puts his head down on the table) Ah~ I’m going crazy, seriously... (Puts his hands up to his face like in the drama but then can’t handle it and puts his head down on the desk again) ‘Aish~

[Softly to his staff] Everyone get out. Everyone go out. I want to be by myself.

“Don’t fly away, your puppy will cry~” (Performs the line but then can’t take his hands away from his face in embarrassment. Takes a long moment to collect himself)

(Sits up with his eyes closed) [Staff start clapping] Everyone get out. Leave before I open my eyes. I want to be by myself. If I open my eyes I think I’ll be really embarrassed so leave. (Waits a minute before opening his eyes, sighs, and then turns and calls to his staff). Team Manager, is there any soju? (chuckles) Okay, I understand.

[To the viewers] Ah, the promotional team really went and prepared a lot of things that I didn’t even imagine. Thanks a lot [said very formally but also without any sincerity whatsoever lol].

Q: If you were to be born again as a human, would you prefer to be: [0:49:25~]

A. A rich unemployed person - VS - B. A civil servant guaranteed employment until retirement

Of course it’s unconditionally A, right! There’s no need to even think this one over. Ah! (covers his mouth) Actually there are a lot of students watching right now. Everyone, you still need to study hard. We can’t be unemployed, right?

But I’m going with a rich unemployed person. OK.

Okay, next. [To his staff] I have to do all of these, right? (Answering his own question) Well, because I have to pay respect to the work you put into preparing them...hmmm [To his staff] Team Manager, that soju, can you put it into a water bottle and just... (laughs) Ah, it’s hot~

(Opens the next slip of paper and yells in chagrin) Ah, this!

Q: A never-ending battle? [0:50:12~]

A. Amazing Saturday - VS - B. Yoo Quiz

[Note: This question requires context so bear with me or skip to the next one. ;)

As part of the promotional rounds for TotNT, Lee Dong Wook, Jo Bo Ah, and Kim Beom appeared on Ep.128 of the quiz show, Amazing Saturday. There, they made a bet with the regular cast surrounding one of the quiz answers where whoever lost the bet would have to give a shout out to the other program (so if the TotNT cast won, the Amazing Saturday cast would have to promote the drama on their other variety shows, and if the AS cast won, the TotNT cast would have to reference AS in TotNT). They lost, and Lee Dong Wook promised he would reference AS at some point in an adlib. (This whole segment was actually really great because everyone figured it would be impossible and LDW was just like, ‘Call! I accept the challenge. I can do that.’ You can watch it here from about 5:50~)

LDW upheld his promise in EP05 when Yeon and Ji Ah go drinking and they compare the things they like. When LDW threw out the question he asked, ‘Yoo Quiz (another program that a close friend of his appears on) or Amazing Saturday?’ So then he felt apologetic towards Yoo Quiz and ended up sending them a coffee truck when Gong Yoo (Goblin, 2016) appeared as a guest on the program about a week or so before this VLIVE took place....so even though he’d finally managed to sort everything out, his staff are basically inciting him by asking him to choose again lol]

[Takes a moment before addressing the viewers] Just when I had finally finished all my reparations...(Nodding to himself) Just when I had finished all my reparations another wave is going to happen. (Looks at the paper for a long time) I’d like to appear on both programs sometime. If Amazing Saturday would invite me again, and Yoo Quiz please invite me sometime. I’ll just leave it at that. (Sighs) It’s hard, it’s hard.

[Takes a moment to drink some water and reiterate the things he wrote on his white board]

[Reading the live chat] Ah, it’s water, it’s water! It’s not soju, it’s not soju. This has been here since earlier. Everyone don’t misunderstand, that’ll be a big problem. There’s no way I’d do a live broadcast while drinking alcohol. Bad things would happen. No, please don’t misunderstand.

[Reading the live chat] It’s water, it’s water, yes. Please don’t misunderstand.

[Gives a shout out to the overseas fans and thanks them for the coffee trucks and gifts]

[Reading the live chat] My alcohol tolerance? My alcohol tolerance differs from day to day, but I never drink so much that I’m completely drunk or lose control of myself. I only ever drink enough that I’m still in good possession of myself and able and get home safely.

Then, continuing on. There are... (counts them) six left. There are six left, so I’ll continue...

[Suddenly thinks of something and looks to his staff] Are there more missions in here? You’re not going to tell me, are you? In any case. Alright. (To himself) How can I avoid picking those? Well, I have to do them all anyway...

(Opens the next one, reads it, and chuckles) [To his staff] You guys are crazy, seriously...

Q: If they were both drowning, who would you save first? [0:53:24~]

A. Ji Ah - VS - B. Shin Joo

If they fell in the water, if they fell in the water....Ah~ So this is how Shin Joo felt yesterday, this is how he felt. Yah~ ‘If they were both drowning, who would you save first, Ji Ah or Shin Joo?’ Ah~ I understand our actor Hwang Hee’s feelings. I understand Shin Joo’s feelings (sighs, then remembers something and chuckles).

[Note: This question is a reference to an exchange on Instagram. In preparation for an interview with Esquire, Hwang Hee posted on his Instagram inviting people to ask him TotNT-related questions. So Lee Dong Wook (who doesn’t run his own Instagram and isn’t on social media) texted a bunch of questions to Kim Beom and Jo Bo Ah to ask in his place. One question that he had Jo Bo Ah ask was, ‘If Lee Yeon and Yoo Ri were both drowning, who would you save?’ to which Hwang Hee responded, ‘That water, I will drink it all.’ lol]

[Looking directly at the camera] ‘That water, I will drink it all.’ (breaks into laughter) I’ll drink all of the water...Even if my water consumption goes badly I’ll do my best to save both of them.

[Reading the live chat] Ah, that’s right! I’m a mountain god so I can just make the wind blow like this and just part the water, I just need to do that. Why didn’t I think of that? As expected, the fans who are posting comments here are much smarter than me. Thank you.

That’s right. I was a mountain god. But I completely forgot that...

I’m not a really fast swimmer or anything but I’m still decent and I like playing in the water. I mentioned Life briefly earlier as well, but while shooting Life, free... (catches sight of something and starts laughing)

[Holds up a slip of paper with the words ‘Are you angry?’ written on it - lol] I’ve just received this message from my promotional team. No, not at all, what are you saying? I’m not mad. I’m not mad, and we can talk about more detailed things after the broadcast is over.

[Turns back to the viewers] When I was shooting Life, I learned free diving. I’d dive into about 10m deep water, so I don’t have any big rejection (fear) of water. But the ocean is different. Because the ocean has waves and undertow, you really need to be careful.

[Reading the live chat] I can’t do the butterfly stroke. The butterfly stroke is diffic- [Catches sight of the next prompt card and stops speaking mid-sentence. Drops the paper, sits back, and sighs lol]

(Holding the paper up reluctantly for the viewers to see)

Mission: “Part this darkness and lead me to that woman!” [0:55:32~]

(Long sigh)

[To his staff] How did you manage to pick all the most...these sort of lines, everyone?

(Reads the line out and laughs) You really went and picked just these kinds of lines one after another....I’ll do it standing, I’ll do it standing. Since I’m doing it anyway, I’ll do it standing.

(Spreads his arms wide and delivers the line like in the drama, then slowly sinks to the floor and makes like he’s going to crawl under the desk)

(Returns to his seat as one staff member starts clapping) [Looking at the person] Don’t clap. That’s more cheeky, don’t clap. Yah, if you’re going to clap you should all have clapped, what’s with just one person clapping? (laughs) Agh~

Even so, since today the broadcast was cancelled, even if I’m a bit...embarrassed or whatever, if you can enjoy yourselves, I’m satisfied with that. Yes. (Sighs again) This is definitely going around the internet as gifs, isn’t it? [Lol it definitely did] Yes, well, but in service of alleviating your disappointment at the broadcast being cancelled, I can handle this much. (Nods to himself) Okay, then continuing on...

Q: If you had to wear the same outfit and hairstyle for the rest of your life, would you choose: [0:58:02~]

A. The clothing of a mountain god + dark hair styled with pomade - VS - B. A suit + red and silver long hair

(Already laughing as he reads the question - gifs 1&2). Hey, this is essentially that right? Either the clothes are the mountain god clothes and the hair is dark and combed back with pomade in a modern style, or wear a suit with the mountain god hair, right?

[Directing the question to the live chat] Everyone please choose. Which do you think would suit me? What do you think would suit me, everyone please choose for me. Please send me your choice via the chat. I’ll choose whatever you choose.

Ah, this is really, the balance on this is really no joke. Wah~ This is really hard. Wah~ I mean, wearing a suit with that mountain god hair (breaks down laughing) Ah, how could you live your life like that? (more laughter) Ah, okay, I know. I know that this isn’t for real. And I know that there’s no way it could happen, too. But why do I end up taking it so seriously? Because I can’t help but keep picturing it (laughs).

[Checks the live chat] Oh? There are a ton of B’s? There are way more B’s than A’s? I see. I understand. In that case, if it ever became like this, if I could only wear one outfit and have one hairstyle for the rest of my life, I would have the suit and the mountain god (breaks into laughter before finishing his sentence) I’ll have the mountain god hair. [Returning to the prompt] ‘What term of affection would you want to hear from Ji Ah? O-P-P-A, VS, my puppy.’ Within the drama, Ji Ah has never once called me oppa, right? From the very beginning, she just uses banmal (chuckles) And from the very beginning she says ‘I waited for you (neo)’, right? [Note: ‘neo’ can be a bit rude, or at the very least isn’t polite]. So I think if she called me oppa it would be really awkward. I think, I just want Ji Ah to dote on me. So I’ll pick ‘my puppy.’ Because foxes are canines too.

A. When Imoogi fixates on Ji Ah - VS - B. When Sajang tries to drive a wedge between you and Lee Rang

Ah, okay, things that make Lee Yeon angry, right? ‘What makes Lee Yeon more angry?’ (Reads out the options) Ah~ This one is a bit... the balance doesn’t crumble in this situation. This one is definitely A.

To be honest, when Sajang tries to drive a wedge between the brothers, because I’m perfectly capable of resolving that myself, and I actually did resolve it in the drama, so that’s not a big problem. Also, I think that Lee Rang isn’t the type to fall for that either...

But when Imoogi fixates on Ji Ah, at those times, yes, a bit - well, not a bit - I get very angry.

That’s why, there’s that [scene] in the drama right? Where we’re fighting on the rooftop, and Imoogi says something about Ji Ah so I get angry and say ‘this XX,’ like that. And when he’s got ahold of Ji Ah’s shoulder, I show up and say I’ll break his wrist and such...yes.

A. The Knife Mountain Hell full of knives - VS - B. The Forest of the Starved full of agwi?

(Blows out a long breath and contemplates the question for a while) This is hard. Why is this hard, you ask? I had a really really hard time filming both sequences. I went through a lot filming both, and the memories of those times keep flashing across my mind...Even so, I....

[Reading the live chat] ‘This question stresses me out.’ ‘I hate both.’ ‘There’s no end to the Forest of the Starved even if you die, right?’ ‘I really hate the Forest of the Starved.’ You’re right.

[Reading the live chat] ‘The knives hurt don’t they?’ That’s right.

[Reading the live chat] ‘Wah~ Isn’t this too cruel?’ [To his staff] Everyone, isn’t this too cruel, they say.... It’s not?

summary: Shawn stumbled into a piano room one day following her voice. Now they’ve fallen into each others lives. But what happens when life gets complicated and international pop-star Emma Rivera isn’t all that she is?

the meet; new york city - Spotify Studios

“Okay, we’re going to record ‘In My Blood’ then we will do ‘Lost in Japan’ followed by a song of your choice. Is that alright, Shawn?” The rockstar nodded his head, leaning back on the soft leather couch in the studio. He was about to record a few special version of his new singles in the Spotify New York office to celebrate the release of his third album. The album had just hit the streets a couple weeks ago, sky rocketing to number one and was currently claiming it spot for the third week at number one. It was an overwhelming experience having a number one album for such a long time and it being one of his most vulnerable pieces of work so far. He glanced at the clock on the wall - another twenty minutes before the recording begins, he had time to escape the buzz in the room.

Shawn slipped out of the room quietly, barely anyone noticing him leaving. The door shut softly behind him and he made his way down the corridor. It was quiet on this floor, each room sound proofed so artists could have the comfort of recording their music. Most of the rooms were empty when Shawn peered into them, until he got closer to the end of the hallway. An angelic voice filled the air, accompanied by the loud keys of the piano made Shawn move closer to the source.

He knew that song at the back of his hand but the voice that was behind it was someone who he’s never heard before. He pushed the door open softly, being careful not to make his presence known. And there he saw her. Her eyes were closed, and her body swayed while she played on the piano. She held the notes right where they needed to be held, a soft smile emerging on her face when she knew she did them right. Shawn hadn’t realised that she had finished, until she cleared her throat and his eyes met her honey brown ones. He stumbled into the room, nearly face planting the floor when the door swung open after he lost his grip. She giggled softly, shaking her head as the boy composed himself.

“My singing was that bad huh?” Shawn’s eyes widened at her comment, but he somehow couldn’t form words to respond to her. She chuckled again, standing up from the piano bench making her way to Shawn.

“I’m just kidding, amor. My name’s Emma Rivera, most people call me Em.”

“Shawn Mendes” His voice squeaked a little as he took her outstretched hand in his, shaking it one too many times. He was running her name through his head again and again, where did he hear or see it? It was so familiar, yet he couldn’t put a finger on it. Then he realised his hand was still holding hers when they stopped the handshake and he quickly let go, rubbing his neck sheepishly. Get it together, Shawn.

“Sorry for snooping around by the way, I heard your voice and the door was slightly open-“

“It’s okay” She was laughing again, and the laughter was suddenly music to his ears. He was about to open his mouth, before Annie, the crew in-charge of Shawn’s recording came bursting into the room.

“There you are! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

“I uh-“ before Shawn could even respond, Annie cut him off with her loud voice.

“You’re recording in five! Come on let’s go big- Emma? Thought you were at rehearsals upstairs?” So she is a singer.

“I was, just had to take a little break from all the people upstairs.” She shrugged her shoulders and Annie nodded understandingly.

“You coming to watch the event later, Annie?” Emma asked. Annie perked up immediately, still gripping Shawn’s arm so tightly that he was sure a bruise was going to form on his bicep.

“Of course honey, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. You know how much we love hearing ya” Now it was her turn to smile. She waved Annie goodbye before Shawn was dragged out of the room by his arm.

“Nice work Shawn. That’s a wrap for today!” Shawn pulled the big headphones off his head, making his way out of the recording booth. He thanked the couple of producers and team in the room before heading straight to Annie. She eyed the boy up and down as he stood in front of her nervously.

“So, I heard there’s an event on the rooftop?”

“Yeah, Em is playing a special show for some of her fans” Annie smirked at the brunette.

“Can I go?” He asked softly. His cheeks turned a bright shade of pink while he stood in front of Annie like a kid asking for candy. She nodded at the boy, gesturing for him to follow her. Shawn bid his goodbye to the crew and made up a poor excuse to get away from Andrew. Annie handed Shawn a baseball cap with the Spotify logo on it, forcing him to put it on his head. “This is to avoid you being recognised!” She berated when Shawn refused. He eventually pulled the cap down when he saw the crowd that had arrived for the event. The rooftop was filled with tons of people of all ages, mingling and moving around in excitement. Annie led him to a corner of the rooftop where there weren’t as many people and Shawn could have a full view of the stage. The set up was simple - a large butterfly in the centre of the white backdrop, half the butterfly being covered with floral drawings. He waited quietly next to Annie while she chatted with a couple of her colleagues. Shawn never felt nervous at a concert before but somehow this one felt different. He replayed the image of her playing the piano so passionately in the studios, her brown hair covering her eyes just a little when she looked down at they keys. He was unknowingly smiling to herself and Annie was watching it in front of her eyes.

“She’s pretty good y’know? And single.” Annie’s voice brought Shawn back to reality. He hummed in response, eyes still trailing the stage set up. Shawn knew she was more than ‘pretty good’ but decided to keep his mouth shut, fearing that Annie would drag him off the rooftop.

Eventually Emma’s band took the stage, playing her intro music before she came strutting in. She had changed from her black hoodie and sweats to a denim jacket on top of a white t shirt and black jeans. Simple, but Shawn thought she looked stunning. The crowd roared as she waved and started singing her songs, dancing on the stage with her band. She was in her element, the crinkle in her eyes and her smile was the evidence. She interacted with her fans individually, trying to get to as many of them as she could when they sat down for a short Q and A. She would call each of them by name as they danced to her music, occasionally bringing a few of them on stage to dance along with her. Shawn felt connected to her, along with the feeling of sunshine and confidence radiating off her skin.

Emma hadn’t notice Shawn until her last song when he saw him bopping to the music with a huge smile on his face. Her eyes met with his and she grinned widely, a couple of butterflies erupting in her stomach. She too hadn’t felt like this in awhile, not since her last relationship. Something about Shawn made her feel nerves unlike she’s ever felt before and she welcomed the feeling of it. She jumped off the stage and danced with her fans, twirling them around and hugging them while she sang. She glanced occasionally at Shawn, noticing that his grin never left his face. He would nod back at her while he moved comfortably to the music.

"thank you Spotify! thank you New York!" Emma bowed and waved to the crowd before sprinting off to the back. Shawn trailed behind Annie as she led them into a small room filled with Emma's crew and band. He scanned the room until his eyes landed on her - chatting away to a blonde lady, the smile and cringe in her eyes still on her face. When she noticed Shawn, she kindly excused herself from the group and approached the gentle giant.

"my singing wasn't too bad now was it"

"no! oh my god, no" Shawn's cheeks flushed a shade of pink again.

"you sounded beautiful" he spoke softly, a shy smile gracing his lips. she hummed in response, swirling the beer in her hand. Shawn’s eyes were locked on the gold liquid, feeling the nerves running up his spine. He hasn’t felt like this in a while and it was scary yet exciting.

“Do you want to go for a coffee? I know this place down the street that’s pretty quiet”

“Sounds like fun”

As promised, the cafe was quaint, empty and safe. They talked for ages, sharing their life stories. Shawn felt at home with Emma - her laughter and voice brought peace to his mind. He told her about his humble rise to where he was today, how he wrote the album and he talked about his family back home in Canada. She asks about the meaning behind his tattoos, told him about her older brother who she absolutely adores and the meaning behind a couple of songs she wrote. Emma teaches him a couple of Spanish words and they laugh at how bad his accent is.

And they laugh, until the golden hour glow shines through the windows and they’re reminded of how long they’ve been sitting in the cafe. It made the heat rise to her neck and ears, and a soft blush appearing on her cheek. They sat in a comfortable silence for awhile, Shawn tending to messages from his team. She felt blissful and happy until a message from her brother made her smile falter.

Aaron: Your boy Celio from Los Zetas, he just trashed Papi’s place.

Celio? He hasn’t spoken to me in a year. A million thoughts ran through her mind when she read the message again. Her brows knitted together before she set her phone screen face down on the table.

“Everything okay?” Shawn asked. She put on the smile she was trained to plaster on her face ever since she stepped foot in the industry and nodded her head.

“We should probably go” Emma suggested quickly. She had to get back to the hotel to talk to her family.

“Let me walk you back to your hotel”

“I would love that but-” Shawn furrowed his brows and she quickly continued, “oh no! Don’t get me wrong, there are paps waiting outside my hotel. Last thing you and I need is a big headline when we’re both on a roll. I’ll get my driver to come pick me up”

Shawn had to agree with her. He couldn’t afford to have a massive headline about him when he was about to go on a worldwide tour, Andrew would murder him before he could apologise. So he exchanged numbers with her, opened her car door and promised to see her again. He watched her disappear behind the darkened windows of the car and smiled to himself. And she waited for the car to pull away before all the colour in her face drained and was replaced with a shade of dark red.

This couldn't get any more awkward.

Half an hour into the mall's grand opening and there hadn't been a single soul that so much as wandered into the shop by accident; from the way that Mr. Jonathan had described it, they had anticipated a flood of people. Yet here they all were, each subconsciously claiming a corner to stand in, hoping that at least someone, anyone would care to break the heavy silence. Ten more minutes passed and their prayers still had yet to be answered.

Caesar got to work wiping an imaginary stain on the counter, Lisa Lisa soon jumping on the bandwagon and dusting the displays, Trish and Giorno mindlessly arranging the candles by scent, then by colour. They were two hours into the day when they finally heard a pair of heels clicking across the floor and through the door. Everyone's head whipped around to greet the customer.

"Welcome to Bath and Body Works! How may I help you?"

Suzi Q. staggered backwards. "Wow, I didn't expect such a warm welcome! Thank you!"

Lisa Lisa groaned inwardly at the sight of her. Trish walked towards her. "So, what may we help you with today, ma'am?"

Lisa Lisa looked away so as not to witness her crew's reactions to her reply.

He snapped his head up at breakneck speed to see a bewildered lady clutching a few handbags. He couldn't believe his eyes. They had a customer? They had a customer! After two painstakingly long and boring hours, they finally had a customer! He had to choke back a relieved chortle, forming his leftover grin into a kind smile.

"Ah, excuse me miss, I did not mean to say that. Now, what may I help you with today, signorina?"

Confusion gone, the lady lifted a scrap of paper up to his face.

"Uh, Miss? What may we help you with?"

"Well, you can read, can't ya? I have a coupon for 30% off o' Boardwalk Taffy Fine Fragrance Mist, an' I want exactly three o' those."

"..."

"Hel-loooo?~ Is anyone home? Get me my Boardwalk Taffy Fine Fragrance Mist."

Great. The first customer of the day just had to be one of these, God couldn't let them have a break for just one second, could he? Not even after..

Caesar froze. He didn't want to think about that anymore. This was supposed to be a new chance at life, not more torment --

He straightened up, plastered a saccharine smile onto his face, and gingerly took the coupon from the woman's hand.

"Of course, sorry about that, Ma'am. I'll go get that for you right away, feel free to shop arou-"

"Ya don't have to tell me twice." Her shoulder pushed past him as she made her way to the discounted soaps.

Poor Caesar scrunched the paper in anger. 'You barbarian motherfucker.'

He made his way to the fragrance table. Meanwhile, Trish rearranged the candles for the fourth time, unaware. Then she felt a tap on her shoulder.

The pink-haired girl turned around. "Yes, Ma'am? How may I help-"

"Save it," the lady held up a manicured hand, "I just wanna know if you have any more o' these." She waved a soap bottle in front of Trish's face.

"Uh, Miss, could you please hold the bottle still? I can't read it very well."

"Read it? Shouldn't ya have it memorized? Some wonder employees they have here." She snorted.

Trish wisely chose to stay quiet and read what she could before excusing herself and returning with a similar bottle.

"Here you are, Miss."

The woman took one look at the bottle, scrunched up her nose, threw her streaked hair over her shoulder, and jutted out her chin.

"Do I look like a Japanese Cherry Blossom kinda gal? I clearly wanted Buh-lack Cher-ry Mer-lo-uh." She slowed her words. "Japanese Cherry Blossom is for little girls who like to play dress-up and pretend they know a lick about the world of fashion and fragrance."

Her thin red lips curled up into a sour simper. "Kinda like something you'd wear."

Trish opened her mouth to speak when the customer brutishly pushed the bottle into her hands. "Here, in case ya need a reminder."

Trish exchanged a glance with Lisa Lisa as the crass woman sauntered off to another display; normally they'd say something about this sort of thing, but since this was the mall's opening and she'd most likely drop a really bad review, they decided to suck it up and spare Mr. Jonathan any heartache.

'She's headed to the counter now, anyway.'

'WAIT, THE COUNTER.'

Trish spun her head around to she who was managing the counter, hopefully it wasn't who she thinks it is --

And what do you know? It was. Giorno stood listlessly behind the register. Anyone of them could've chosen to do what is basically the most exciting job right now, and yet no one except Giorno fricking Giovanna chose to do so?! Trish winced in anticipation, everyone else had a mutual understanding of how to best deal with today's customer, but she knew for a fact that Giorno wouldn't be so merciful with her.

Thankfully she snapped out of it and went to go retrieve the soaps from the stockroom before the lady opened her mouth again. Speaking of the lady, she finally stepped up to the register. Oddly enough, she didn't treat Giorno with the same hostility as everyone else, oh no. In fact, she was outright flirting with him.

"Hello signorina, I trust that everything was to your satisfaction?"

"Well, it would be if only you could satisfy me," she winked.

Unfazed, Giorno began to scan the items she picked out. "Do you have a Loyalty Rewards account with us?"

"No, but if I'm loyal to you would you give me a reward?~"

He nodded, "Anyone who signs up for the Loyalty Rewards will get numerous specials and coupons sent right to your phone. You can sign up today for free."

Blinded by his beauty, she absentmindedly drawled out her e-mail and other information, all the while sneaking in perverse comments. Trish held back her vomit as she dropped the soaps onto the table.

"Oh, there's the soaps I was waiting on! Fine-uh-lee. Do me a favour and ring these up for me, baby cheeks?~"

On the outside Giorno skrt skrt, but on the inside he hurt hurt. He now joined Trish in the silent ritual of spiritual bonding that was holding back the hellish torrent of vomit they'd spill into the toilet after this encounter.

Words cannot describe how relieved he was when the time came for her to swipe her credit card and pay. Now he'd just need to bag up her stuff and send her on her way, hopefully never to be seen again.

If only it were that easy.

The card reader made a small, jarring ERR, startling Giorno out of his daydream. He looked at his screen, 'CARD DECLINED.'

"I'm terribly sorry, but your card seems to be declined, Madam."

"HUH?! No it sure as hell isn't, lemme see," she craned her neck to read the computer screen. She began to hastily pull a myriad of receipts and whatnot out of her purse to find her phone.

"It can't be, I swear Bernard just got paid today..." She grumbled. At last, she victoriously held up her phone and punched in Bernard's number.

"Bernard... HIIIIII, SUH-WEE-TIIIIIE!~ How are ya? Uh huh, so listen, I'm out shopping for some stuff.... Of COURSE I'm having fun, thank you ba-byyy! But, there's a little uh-oh, my card got declined for some reason! It's not your fault, I know you just got paid..."

"....Whaddaya mean it's gone??" Her face slowly morphed from shock to worry to anger.

"I TOLD you NOT TO USE THE COMPUTER WITHOUT ME. I know you're a businessman and all, but se-ri-uhs-ly, Bernard, how many times has someone stolen from your account? Do you know how EMBARRASSING that is for me?? Don't ya love me?"

The rest of the crew tried their best to look away. They busied themselves with patrolling the store, hiding in the stockroom, anything, all of them choking back laughter at the scene. Meanwhile, the customer raged on, further damaging Bernard's nearly deaf ears.

She solemnly hung up. Turning around, she calmly glanced at Giorno before furiously shoving the bag's contents onto the ground along with a slew of curses. Of course, her grand debut was not complete without her kicking a few displays, huffing on her way out.

Lisa Lisa held the phone in her hands to call security, only for Giorno to stop her and gesture to the register.

The declined card still remained in the card reader, and Lisa Lisa watched in awe as he transformed the plastic to a small butterfly. A familiar face appeared not long after.

"Have..Have any of ya seen my card?!"

"No, Miss, I'm afraid we haven't. If I remember correctly, you placed it into your wallet."

"Well... If ya say so, honey bun."

Once she was out of earshot the whole shop erupted in laughter. Caesar was the first to crack, and soon he doubled over in pain from laughing so hard, Trish following along with tears streaming down her face. After a solid ten minutes of ugly cackling they tried to compose themselves, Caesar having to sit down until he could move without hurting.

Lunchtime rolled around without a hitch. Caesar waved to the others, "I'm going out for lunch, anyone want anything?"

"Where to?"

"Rainforest Cafe."

Lisa Lisa snorted. "Nice. Can you get me the Spicy Stir-Fry, please?"

"Okay. Anyone else?"

"What's Rainforest Cafe?"

Lisa Lisa stared at Trish and Giorno with wide eyes. "You've never had it before? Why, it's one of the only places that even resemble gourmet at this fast-food-filled hellhole."

"But there's also a Dave & Buster's..."

The Hamon trainer dismissed them with a wave. "Go on now, both of you, and don't come back until you're educated in the world of mall cuisine."

"And I want some Daytona Beach Wings from Hooters, please!" Suzi added as the trio headed out.

"Okay, your orders should be out in a bit."

Trish eyed the waiter as he walked away.

"His hat's so tall... What weird fashion..."

Giorno looked around the place as he waited. The decor was cheesy, as he expected, but the menu didn't seem all that bad. The waiters' uniforms could use a bit of work, and maybe start regulating haircuts? That short guy over there could not have a more unflattering hairdo.

'WAIT.'

Unfortunately for him, he locked eyes with the short waiter, whose mouth dropped in utter shock. Even from across the room, Giorno swore he could hear the sharp gasp and the soft thud of the waiter's pen hitting the floor. Said waiter drew his hand up to point at the blond boy.

"Y-YOU! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO STOLE MY LUGGAGE!"

These people are truly some of the kindest, friendliest, sweetest, most compassionate, and most intelligent individuals that I’ve ever met in my life. Hold On

The Magicians, Quentin, Eliot, and Margo

Word count: 1846

Summary: Something terrible has happened. (Angst. Major character death)

Quentin knows something’s wrong when his bedroom door crashes open, slams against his dresser, and nearly closes again with the force. But Eliot’s hand reaches out, stops it with a small thump, and takes a slow, staggering step into the room. He stares blankly at the door, jaw slack and eyes wide and misty.

Quentin sets his book aside, pitches his legs over the side of the bed, hand coming to his side to push himself up. “Eliot?” He asks, tentative, as Eliot takes another, slow, clumsy step into the room. “Eliot, what’s wrong?”

His mouth works without noise for a moment, before his legs give out beneath him, and Quentin rushes across the room to catch him before he falls to the ground. His hands grasp Eliot’s elbows, his own legs buckling beneath his weight, as they go down to the floor in a slow, messy heap, with Eliot falling overtop Quentin’s lap. Quentin eyes him for a moment, one hand coming up to run across his jaw, and up to his hairline. Eliot’s gaze is blank, and somewhere far off.

“Eliot, what happened?” He asks again, frantic.

For a moment, Eliot stares past him, empty, at the wall. But then his eyes start to focus, and his gaze comes in to look at him. His jaw trembles, adam’s apple bobbing. And then he breaks. Tears flood over his cheeks, and his face scrunches up angrily, as he pulls himself into Quentin, sobs into the bend between his neck and shoulder, loud and angry and broken. Confused, Quentin places one hand on the back of Eliot’s neck, holding him there, and the other rubs up and down his back.

He waits for the sobs to calm, and for the shaking to subside. When he settles down, Quentin whispers into his ear, “Eliot . . . please talk to me?”

Eliot shakes his head, gripping fistfuls of the back of Quentin’s shirt in his hands. A broken sound comes from his throat, but he doesn’t move, doesn’t try to say anything. He buries his face in the crook of Quentin’s neck, refuses to move. Quentin sighs, pulling his body closer, and holds him until he’s ready to speak.

When he does, it’s a surprise. They’ve been sitting for hours, the suns set, and a darkness has overtaken the whole of the room. People have come and gone, similar looks of grief on their faces, but he waves them away, waits for Eliot. They sit there in complete silence, if not for the soft sounds that often grow broken and angry coming from Eliot’s chest. They don’t move, and Quentin’s knees are beginning to ache from the bend and weight overtop them, but he doesn’t dare try to move Eliot, who seems too broken to be moved. They sit on the floor until Eliot’s ready.

He doesn’t even pull away. The words come in hot breaths against Quentin’s humid neck, reverberating through his throat and down his spine. It takes too long for them to settle in, for him to understand. For a moment, he’s not even sure Eliot’s spoken at all, but he’s sobbing again, gripping Quentin too tight, like saying the words made them true, and the wound’s been opened again, a fresh and searing pain.

“Margo’s dead.”

When it does settle in, it settles heavy in Quentin’s heart. A single, vicious pump that pounds up against his rib cage, crashing through him so hard and fierce, he’s sure it breaks through skin. He sets his jaw, takes a deep breath, and tightens his arms around Eliot. He gets it now, why he doesn’t want to talk. So they sit. Quentin attempting to be strong, arms wrapped around Eliot tight and without hesitation, Eliot crying into Quentin’s neck, like the world doesn’t have enough room for his grief. Sheds so many tears, Quentin’s shirt grows damper, and damper. No words wasted, no breaths kept in.

At some point, Penny and Kady appear, freshly showered, looks of shared guilt and grief on their faces, but Quentin shakes his head, and Penny closes the door after a moment of hesitation, and gives them their privacy.

When Eliot finally pulls away, there’s no warning, Quentin’s sore muscles creak and groan as they click out of position, blood rushing to parts of him he’d forgotten were there, because they’ve gone numb. Eliot looks at him, sits back on his haunches, stares at him in a childlike sadness, eyes wide and innocent and full of something Quentin’s never seen in him. Then he climbs to his feet, holds his hands out for him. Quentin reaches out for them, allows himself to be pulled up, and then Eliot’s pulling through the cottage, down the stairs. People watch them as they pass by, but neither of them pay any mind, Eliot with his gaze on the on the ground, determined, and Quentin watching his back as they move through the house.

And then they’re in front of Margo’s room. There are flowers on the floor in front of the door. Eliot glares down at them, snaps his fingers, and they catch on fire, as he kicks them aside and pushes open her door. As they enter, Quentin casts a quick spell to smolder the flames before Eliot shuts the door behind them, and pulls him over to the bed. Eliot climbs up first, letting go of Quentins hand to pull a pillow up to his chest as he curls up over the covers. When he realizes Quentin hasn’t followed him onto the bed, he looks over his shoulder, gives him a look, and says, gruff and quiet, “Lie with me.”

Quentin nods, slow, and moves around to lie on the opposite side of the bed. He lies down on his side, facing Eliot. The pillow is crushed beneath his arms, and his face his buried in the fabric, and Quentin can hear him inhale, deep and lasting. They lie in silence for a few minutes, until Eliot opens his bloodshot eyes, and stares at him. His breath hitches, and his eyes shine as tears pool, but he reaches out with one hand, and Quentin takes the hand, holds it tight between them, running his thumb over Eliot’s knuckles.

“I love her,” Eliot murmurs, voice cracking.

Quentin nods. “I know.”

“She’s my best friend.”

Quentin nods again, moving forward, so the only thing between them in Margo’s pillow. He holds onto Eliots hand. “I know,” He repeats. “I know.”

Eliot closes his eyes as his jaw trembles, “I - I can’t live without her.”

“You can.”

He shakes his head, squeezing his eyes tight like he’s trying to lock in the tears. “I can’t.”

Quentin hesitates, but he lifts up, reaches towards him with his free hand, brushes it along Eliot’s temple, down his cheekbone, and along his jaw. “You will,” He murmurs, soft. “Because you have to.”

“How?”

“I -,” He pauses, swallowing as Eliot opens his eyes. He wavers for a moment, finds himself swimming in Eliot’s eyes, lost in his sea of misery, but he shakes his head. “Fight.”

Eliot watches him for a moment, inhales and exhales shaky breaths. Then, he nods, squeezing Quentin’s hand, leaning into the warmth of the other. They lie in silence for a few moments, Quentin watching him breathe, Eliot thinking, soft tears sneaking out through the corner of his eyes. Until Eliot opens his eyes again, sets his jaw. “The beast killed her,” He says, the words cracking as he tries to get them out quickly.

“You don’t -,”

“I do.” He murmurs, firm, looking up at the ceiling as his eyes glaze over, “We were just - standing there. Talking. In the middle of the courtyard. Laughing about some stupid first year . . . I - I can still see her face. Frozen.” His gaze flickers back over to Quentin, “We couldn’t even react. He just - just appeared. And,” His face scrunches up, lips trembling as he tries to get the words out, “Just,” He swallows, “He -,”

Quentin shakes his head, lets go of Eliot’s hand to carefully pull the pillow out of his grasp, and pulls him up against his chest, holds him as tight as he can. “You don’t have to do this right now,” He whispers into his hair, “Not now, Eliot.”

“He ri - ripped out her heart.”

Quentin’s breath hitches, gripping Eliot even tighter. “Eliot -,”

He pulls away, to look up at Quentin, an ironic attempt at a smile on his lips. “She would have laughed,” He says, “Would have said she’s surprised she has a heart.” He takes a shaky breath, “But she stared a - at me. And I,” He closes his eyes, curls his lips inwards as a whimper breaks through, a soft and broken sound. “I saw the - the moment she - it went dark. I saw her disappear.”

As his eyes open, Quentin sets his own jaw, gazes at him. “The beast killed her,” He says, “So you survive. Find a way to kill him.”

“It won’t bring her back.”

“No, it won’t,” Quentin murmurs, squeezing the back of Eliot’s neck, “But we can make the bastard suffer, okay? You can make him suffer for this.” He looks down at him, at the tears still slowly falling down his cheeks, and the solemn set of his lips. “He doesn’t get to take her from you. He doesn’t get to live. Not this time.”

“Q -,”

He shakes his head, “I’m not going to let him get away with this. And neither are you. She wouldn’t let you give up now, Eliot. So,” He takes a deep breath, “Neither am I.”

Eliot watches him, appraising for a few long moments, before he gives a small, reluctant nod, and curls back up against him, resting his head just above Quentin’s heart. He wraps his arms around them, holding tight. “Tomorrow,” he whispers, “Today I can’t.” His breath fans out against Quentin’s chest, “Tomorrow. I’ll be strong tomorrow.”

“You don’t need to be strong,” Quentin says, soft, against his hair, “You just need to fight.”

“For her.”

“For her,” He agrees, “For you, too.”

Neither of them say anything for a few moments. “She was wearing her favorite lipstick,” Eliot finally says, the words vibrating against Quentins heart, “When she died. She was wearing her favorite lipstick. It was smudged, on the right side. I didn’t tell her because she always looks perfect, and I thought she could handle a few minutes of looking normal, like the rest of the world.” He shivers, fingers digging into the muscles of Quentin’s back. “She’ll never forgive me for letting her die looking anything less than perfect.”

Quentin doesn’t respond, just nuzzles his chin into Eliot’s hair, holds him as he talks about her. Because that’s all he can do. He can’t fix this, can’t even try. All he can do is be there for him. Make sure this doesn’t destroy him. That’s all he can do. Hold on, and never let go.

A/N: This chapter was pretty damn fun to write. I was just going to post the teaser today but, felt like posting the whole thing. Will be a while before I post the next part though. Enjoy!

The tension in the air is beautiful.

Everyone is on edge as the news of Sionis’s death spreads throughout Arkham. You get the details from the whispers of the other inmates. Jerome snuck into Sionis’s room and stabbed him repeatedly with a scalpel, after which he carved J + Q into the man’s chest. You don’t know if that last part is true, but it sounds like something Jerome would do.

You sit on your bed, back against the wall, calmly watching the sun set through your tiny window. You can feel the unrest. While the sounds of the other inmates pacing and fidgeting can be heard, you remain still. With every slowly passing second, your grin gets wider. Eventually the energy gets to you as well and you start to fidget excitedly. Soon. So soon.

The lights go out, and suddenly everything is eerily silent.

And you wait.

After nearly an hour, heavy footsteps make their way towards your cell. Dallas and Lawrence both appear and you smile sweetly at them, getting to your feet.

“Show time, boys,” you say.

Dallas unlocks your cell. Reaching underneath the bed, you pull out your lighter. After a quick sweep to make sure you’re not leaving anything behind, you set fire to your pillow. You tuck the lighter into your shirt, bid your stupid prison farewell, and lead the men into the hallway. You’re just at the end of the block when the fire alarm goes off. Ducking into a small corner, Lawrence blocks you from view of the guards who come running, while Dallas gestures wildly to where the fire is coming from.

They run past and as you and your men slip out of the block, you pull the release lever, opening all the cells behind you. The guards scream as they’re rushed by inmates and you smile as you leave them to fend for themselves.

Now that the fire alarm is going off, other alarms are as well. It seems the additional guards on your crew are doing their parts. Lawrence and Dallas stick close to you.

“We need Port,” you say. “He’s the only one who can get us to Jerome.”

As you say this, the doors in front of you burst open and Caswell comes flying out, falling to the floor in a crumpled mess. Aaron stands there, teeth bared and hands dripping with blood. When he sees Lawrence and Dallas with you, he starts for them. But you stop him.

“Aaron, no!” you say, rushing forward to put your hands on his chest. “It’s okay. They’re good. You did good, buddy.” You pat him on the cheek and he gives you a lopsided smile. “Come on, we need to find Jerome. They took him to solitary right?”

Aaron nods. “Yes,” he says. “He was laughing.”

You grin and clap excitedly. “Of course he was,” you say, dodging around Aaron. “Gents, onward!”

You and your men make your way through the chaos that has ensued. Inmates are running wild, the guards too overwhelmed to notice your group. Occasionally an inmate charges for you, but between Aaron and the two guards, they don’t get very far. Bodies are starting to pile up, but you step over them as you go.

You find Captain Port fighting off a skinny man with large eyes, who seems to be trying to bite the guard. Dallas knocks the inmate out, letting Port collapse against the wall, panting.

“This was your doing!” he accuses, pointing at you.

“Yeah, yeah, we don’t have time for this,” you tell him. “Take me to Jerome.”

“No!” Port snaps. “No, this is too much! You’ve gone too far! I don’t care if you tell Jenny about Nancy. People are dying!”

“Newsflash, Port! People die every fucking day!” you snap. “Now, you will take us to Jerome. We need your thumbprint for the security scanner.”

“Screw you!”

Sighing, you snap your fingers and Lawrence and Dallas seize Port. The man’s eyes widen when he realizes his own men aren’t even under his command anymore. You nod at Aaron, who grabs Ports wrist, prying his fist open so his thumb is extended. Casually, you stroll over and wrap your mouth around his thumb, teeth sinking into the flesh.

“No! NO! NO DON’T!” Port pleads. “Alright! Alright! I’ll take you to him and open the block!”

You let his thumb slip from your mouth and smile sweetly. “Thank you oh so much, Captain,” you say. “Shall we?”

He sags against the men holding him, nodding with defeat. They loosen their hold but don’t let go, steering him in the direction you all need to go.

“You orchestrated all of this,” Port says as you walk.

“You’re a sharp one,” you say in a deadpanned voice. “Boy, nothing gets by you, does it? What were you talking to Dr. Thompkins about?”

“I wasn’t—”

“I know you were,” you snap. “Don’t fucking lie to me. What were you talking to her about?”

Port sighs. “You,” he says. “She called me in to ask me questions.”

“Like what?”

“You and Valeska,” Port says. “She wanted to know what you two were like together. If I thought you were planning anything.”

“And what did you say?” you ask in a dangerous tone.

“Nothing, nothing I swear!” Port assures you.

Liar.

You reach the doors to the solitary cell-block. Lawrence and Dallas let Port go so he can unlock the door. As he presses his thumb to the plate, you smirk over at Lawrence as you reach to grab his pistol. The guard smiles back and you wink up at him, before drawing the gun and pressing the barrel into the back of Port’s head.

“To tell you the truth, I have no idea who Nancy and Jenny are.”

The gunshot is loud and masks the sound of the door clicking open. You barely have time to admire the gaping hole in the back of his head before Port’s dropping to the ground.

“Aaron, please pick up the good captain.”

Aaron does as he told, while Dallas opens the cell-block the rest of the way and you push past him.

Jerome’s cell is at the very end. You walk towards it, purposefully ignoring the banging and screams from the other inmates locked in solitary. Using the keys on Port’s belt, you unlock Jerome’s cell, and throw open the door. He’s sitting on the floor, bound by a straight jacket, which angers the fuck out of you. But as soon as he looks up and sees your face, his mouth splits into a wide grin.

“Ready for freedom, puddin’?” you ask.

Jerome slowly gets to his feet, as Dallas enters the cell to unbind him. “Oh, Queenie,” he coos. “You shouldn’t have. And here I am without anything to give you.”

Once he’s free, you run at him, leaping up to wrap your legs around his waist and pull him into a hard kiss, the gun still clasped in one hand. Jerome catches you, arms holding you tightly. “Trust me, love,” you mutter against his lips when you draw away. “You have plenty to give me when we’re out of here.”

His eyes sparkle. “Well then, lead the way.”

You hop down with a grin, grab his hand, and pull him from the cell. “Boys, please bind the former captain in the straight jacket and leave him behind.”

They do as you command, locking the cell.

“Should buy us a little time,” you explain to Jerome as the five of you leave solitary, making sure the door is locked. “If they know you're missing right away, they'll know I am too.”

“This is why you're in charge,” Jerome giggles, walking beside you. “Ooo new toy!”

He seizes the pistol out of your hand and you let him play with it. “If you shoot yourself I'm totally going to laugh,” you warn.

“Hey!” calls a voice.

A guard spots you as he rounds the corner, and you immediately recognize him as the one who interrupted yours and Jerome's first kiss. Before you can say anything, Jerome shoots him in the chest. He crumples to the ground with a yell of pain. You grin at Jerome, who is giggling happily.

“This gun has a nice kick to it!” he exclaims.

It’s difficult to avoid the thick of the fighting, but your group manages. However, just as you're heading toward the exit, you hear your name being called. You stop and turn to find Greenwood and Dobkins hurrying to keep up. Jerome goes to lift the pistol, but you place your hand on his.

“Not worth it,” you say in his ear. To the new arrivals you ask, “Is it done?”

They nod excitedly, both covered in blood. Greenwood even has some on his mouth, which you avoid looking at.

“They're all gone,” he announces.

“Yeah we didn't even need to get to some of them. They were already dead,” Dobkins explains.

“Perfect.” All the guards you bribed can’t spill their guts now. Well, metaphorically.

Jerome keeps glaring at Greenwood, but he lowers the gun. “You sure they're gone?” he questions. “Wouldn't want all of Queenie’s hard work to go to waste, would we?”

“You calling me a liar?” Greenwood accuses.

“Jerome, Greenwood, you can settle this later,” you say. “We’re on a schedule here, boys. Let’s keep moving.”

The guard's station is abandoned when you arrive.

Your guard’s uniform is a bit snug, but it feels way better than the stupid uniforms the asylum makes you wear. Per your instructions to Chuck, you find a face mask in your pocket. Jerome notices one in his as well and he follows your lead, slipping it on. Greenwood does the same, as does Dobkins. You have to show Aaron his.

Dallas eventually notices and looks at you curiously. “What’s with the masks?” he asks.

You pull out the other item from your pocket; a canister of knockout gas. With a simple pull of the pin, you drop it in front of him and Lawrence. They immediately reach for their guns, but the gas is too fast and it seeps into their lungs, sending them into coughing fits. You grab the gun from Jerome and shoot both Dallas and Lawrence, right between the eyes.

It's always wonderful when loose ends get tied up. You hop over their bodies on the way to freedom.

Outside, the cold air feels amazing. You don’t have time to relish it however, as you’re in a rush to get to the black limo that’s waiting. As you approach, the front door opens and an older man steps out.

“Ah, hello, Schultz,” you address your former driver, removing the itchy mask. “Been a long time. Did you miss me?”

“As always, Miss,” he says formally, giving you a bow. He opens the back door and you motion to the boys.

“After you, gents,” you grin. “Our future awaits.”

They remove their masks as they cheer, piling into the back of the limo. Dobkins and Greenwood go first, Aaron lumbers after as Jerome lays a smacking kiss on your cheek and then dives in. You go to climb in, pausing to stare at the asylum one more time to admire it. It had been an interesting experience, but you have places to go and a stepmother to kill.

Jerome leans out the door, wrapping both arms around your waist. With a laugh, he pulls you into the limo with the rest of them. You can’t stop giggling as you let him. Schultz slams the door behind you and climbs back into the driver’s seat. Excitedly, you and Jerome turn to look out the back window, watching as the asylum slowly starts to shrink in the distance.

The others are too busy enjoying the free drinks and snacks in the limo to pay you two any attention.

Jerome looks at you and you meet his gaze, grinning. You’re so happy you could scream. The thrill of the escape is pumping so much adrenaline through your veins you want to pin Jerome to the seat and have your way with him right there. He cups your cheek and kisses you, and though it’s hard like so many others, there’s something else to it. A desperation and intent that is unmistakable.

He’s going to fuck you tonight.

The limo has to drive halfway across the city before it gets to your penthouse. See, once upon a time when you thought you would be moving out of your father’s house, you purchased a stunning place to live. You had been sure such a thing wouldn’t go over well, so you had used an alias. While you never had a chance to use the place, you had made sure it was equipped with everything you wanted. And if Chuck followed your instructions correctly, it should be plenty ready for your arrival.

The elevator ride up is loud as Greenwood and Dobkins regal you all with how they killed the guards. Aaron listens excitedly, but you and Jerome just stare each other down, waiting.

Their reactions as they step into the penthouse are to be expected. They're giddy at their new freedom.

“Okay, house rules,” you say as you lead them through the living room. “No killing, torturing, raping, or hurting my staff. And no biting, Greenwood. I’m paying these people a lot of money for their discretion.”

You pause to gesture to a hallway. “Guest rooms are this way. Take your pick,” you say.

The boys are besides themselves, but you only have eyes for Jerome. Likewise, he watches you from across the room, chest heaving. With swaying hips, you strut towards a second hallway. “I’m going to bed. I’m exhausted,” you say over your shoulder. “I’ll see you all in the morning.”

The hallway isn’t very long, but it definitely feels like it is. The door to your room lies at the end and you open it, admiring the large waiting bed, draped in dark red silk sheets. Perfect.

You spin around in the doorway, hand resting on the dark wood. “Shall we, puddin’?”

Jerome stands a few steps away, hands clenched into fists and wicked smile widening. He had followed you just as you knew he would. Tapping his chin in mock thought, he says, “Hmm, let’s see. Do I want to go to bed with Queenie?”

Reaching up with your free hand, you undo the first two buttons on your shirt, revealing your breasts. Jerome’s eyes darken with lust and he licks his lips. With a near comical grin, he duck under your outstretched arm on his way into the room.

Smirking, you slam the door shut behind him.

Back in October of 2010I was involved in a Hit and Run Accident. The Guy that hit us was found a few days later and we filed against his insurance. Me and my Fiance both went through Physical therapy for our backs. Medical bills totalled about 5K for me and about 8K for her. There were times when she was in tears because her back was hurting so bad. She Couldnt work some days either and she is self employed and works from home as a graphic Designer. I missed some days of work too but my pain was not near as much as hers. State Farm Called and offered a settlement with me to pay the 5k to the Doctor and then a $1000 check to me for my pain and suffering. They called my Fiance to settle but she did not answer. My guess is they will probably offer her the same. Is Paid medical bills plus $1,000 fair? We missed work from it. Delt with stress and Physical therapy for about 3 months and not to mention all of the inconveniences associated with getting the car fixed and also dealing with insurance stuff. So recently an 18 wheeler ran into the back of my car damaging the whole trunk and the force of the truck pushed my car into a post scraping the side of my car.
