Parlo spesso di musica, anzi ultimamente poco, ne parlo perché è la mia vita anche se negli ultimi 4 anni è più una sorta di nascondiglio privato, per non dire che non sto facendo niente di commestibile (ascoltabile) da mettere in rete e quindi non ho neanche uno spazio online come avevo prima. Eh si perché prima della pandemia avevo un pò di musica online e per qualche strana alchimia facevo anche dei concerti, da un certo punto di vista. Poi come è capitato a molti durante il lock down è cambiato qualcosa in me, in realtà mi sono messo a studiare tutti quei compositori del 1900 che avevo saltato molti anni fa, ci sto ancora dietro perché c'è parecchio materiale. Però durante il lockdown ho anche concluso la mia lunga ricerca sul perché la musica non funziona più come una volta e questo mi ha portato a un paio di conclusione, la prima è che bisogna fare una distinzione netta tra musica e commercio musicale. Tutti sanno che una volta se volevi sfondare nel mondo della musica dovevi consegnarti ad un discografico, ecco questo non ha più molto a che fare con la musica, perché sapete (se avete letto in passato i miei deliri sull'argomento) che la musica è una forma d'arte e non un articolo di vendita. Ma nella conclusione della ricerca oltre a capire che la colpa non è ne dei discografici, che fanno il loro lavoro per guadagnare, e neanche dei musicisti, ma bensì del pubblico. Lo so, detta così non è molto bella ma è una sintesi e sto già sforando, abbiate pazienza. Qua poi arriviamo ai giorni nostri e sapete quanto non mi stia simpatico spotify (odio totale), sia per il fatto che non paga una cippa agli 'artisti' sia perché il suo sistema ha svalutato il lavoro di molti musicisti, pagare 10€ o giù di li per ascoltarsi tutta la musica che si vuole è un furto alla musica stessa, ai miei tempi quando volevi ascoltarti un album lo compravi e lo piazzavi sul giradischi e lo ascoltavi tante di quelle volte che lo consumavi, questo portava non solo a dare un valore economico al vinile (poi cd), ma anche una valore artistico non indifferente perché quel microsolco ti entrava nel sangue e diveniva parte di te.

Quindi adesso cosa succede, la musica grazie allo streaming non ha più valore e le nuove generazioni sono abituate che la musica è gratis, questo non solo distrugge il lato commerciale ma anche quello artistico perché i musicisti non sono più visti come tali, già prima era difficile fare capire all'interlocutore (ignorante in materia) che la musica è un lavoro come tanti altri. Adesso come ciliegina sulla torta l'AI sta invadendo la rete diventando sempre più sofisticata che è anche difficile riconoscere se un brano è suonato e cantato da persone o è un software. Tutto questo papello è perché ho visto un paio di video di Rick Beato, che anche se oramai è sull'olimpo dei tubers non è altro uno che tira l'acqua al suo mulino, forse una volta faceva la sua bella figura, per carità tanto di cappello Rick è un ottimo musicista e ha anche una buona cultura e conoscenza musicale, ma si è un pò arreso secondo me. Comunque i suoi video parlano, il primo, del perché la musica sta diventando sempre più brutta, e fondamentalmente dice quello che dico io da anni, però lui è Rick Beato lo youtuber con milioni di followers; l'altro video parla dell'AI dicendo che l'aveva detto che sarebbe successo ... grazie ar cazzo Rick, tutto lo sapevano che prima o poi l'AI sarebbe cresciuta ed avrebbe dato del filo da torcere agli artisti (e non solo a livello musicale). Comunque, a questo punto il mio cambiamento di direzione è più che logico anche se prima non sapevo del perché mi stavo imbarcando in sta crociata senza senso, mi chiedevo avvolte (vi ricordo che sono 4 anni che ci sto dietro) "Ma perché cerco sempre quell'ago nel pagliaio?", che sarebbe il mio scopo di vita cioè quello di fare qualcosa di diverso musicalmente, diverso da tutto quello che mi circonda, lo so che è quasi impossibile però tentare non nuoce, poi non sono nessuno quindi non ho nessuna scadenza, anche se non ci riesco non cambia nulla nel mondo ecc ecc, ma a me piace farlo, ricercare, sperimentare, spingere al limite se è necessario, tutto per onorare l'arte della musica o come la definisco ultimamente arte sonora. Alla fine quello che non cambierà mai è il concerto dal vivo, la performance, i musicisti continueranno a scrivere canzoni e salire sul palco per farle sentire al pubblico, cosa che l'AI non può fare.

Vi lascio con una cosa un pò vecchiotta, visto che i tempi corrono, ma che a me piace molto come idea e come esecuzione

Rick Beato once again brings top quality advice and motivation for musicians. Much of his advice can apply to any other goal you have. Some of the best advice he makes includes sticking with something when practicing it-- don’t hop around, That was my greatest flaw while playing the piano years ago. I could not stick with anything. I wanted to try everything. 

Another great piece of advice is to practice what you don’t know. I used to stay within my comfort zone-- for example, avoiding any piece of music with too many sharps and flats. Well, that has backfired badly, given that I listen to Liszt and Chopin with great dismay, realising I cannot play a single note. Practice what you don’t know. Get out of your comfort zone. 

If you want to be a great pianist (obviously, Beato speaks form a guitarist’s perspective predominantly, but the advice still applies), then practice like crazy. After hearing Paganini play, Liszt sat down and practiced piano for 14 hours a day. The results... Depressingly unplayable music. Mastery is within the reach of anyone willing to do the hard work and remain consistent over years and years. 

There are no quick rewards (another lesson I have to learn time and time again). Be prepared for the long haul. 

Beato also rightly recommends trying out the same idea in all the available forms. From my perspective, this includes transposition of a musical theme into different keys, including the difficult ones. This develops your sense of creativity, allowing you to be more flexible, and if you are a songwriter and composer, produce better ideas. 

As a fan of classical music, this kind of practice would have shaped the musical education of all my favourite composers. Bach is the most obvious example of this. 

An excellent video from Rick Beato. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Practice pointer:. A cool way to make your major scales more interesting is to play them in intervals. This one is in C, done in thirds. So the notes are C, E, D, F, E, G, F, A, G, B, A, C.
