The protagonist is also another star of those 4, Lelouch is not an anti hero, he's a villain, we just happen to follow his point of view so that makes it a show focused on the villain. I don't like these characters, I love the good people, fighting for a cause they believe in. But sometimes I sit back and say "oh yeah this is a villain I can ADORE" it has happened twice, kinda thrice, with Frank Underwood and with Lelouch and kinda with Walter White. Anywhore, for me to like a VILLAIN (fuck the anti hero term) they have to be self aware of their actions and they can't go around justifying themselves and they have to have a solid reason for killing kittens or whatever evil thing they do. Lelouch has all those points, and even more. He starts off already with development behind, with a great backstory, a good motive and even greater development during the series and yet you still can't predict him AT ALL but when he does something, eventually, you will understand why he did it because he is so well developed. He is a villain that I would follow because he can actually question your morality and wonder how far you would go for something. He's also very realistic even with his sudden evil burst of evil laughter. He also has a bombastic manner of speeching, he gets up and starts speeching with this epic bombastic voice (WATCH IN ENGLISH, THE DUB IS BRILLIANT) and hand movements like a very iconic political leader, which gives the character a sense of realistic history in the making.

The other point is the history behind the setting. It has some of the most engaging social and historic settings ever, Code Geass is basically 50 episodes of shade from Japan against USA and China, clearly the makers were laughing while doing some things, it's not even hard to spot at all, the whole thing is a black comedy of supremacy and imperialism and SHAAAADEEEEEEEE against USA and China. (Obviouysly Brittania = usa and the Chinese Empire = China) it's Japan's way of saying "listen the way things are going USA could very well one day FUCKING EVILY CONQUER THE WORLD" there's even this part where the King goes to the UN and bends the UN to his will, which is basically also shade of USA controlling the UN. I love politics and this show, sometimes it plot hole fails, but most of the time IT IS A MASTER PIECE at subtle basic politics, specially of foreign conflict. 

Another shadeeeeeeee is how Britannia's tools are all references to Arthurian legend items, ye we know England follows USA. And ofc, Brittania's territory is on today's USA's. that was hilarious ok. 

The characters are great but they pale in comparision to the story and the plot. But they are not bad at all, the dialogue is brilliant, specially coming from CC and Lelouch. And of course, Karen, Shirley, Cornelia, Schnizer and Kaguya.

I have one hated character, Suzaku, but I guess that if a show can make you despise a character, that is a good thing too. 

The minus one star comes from the fact that this show is FULL OF FANSERVICE and sexualises female characters a lot, it is disrespectful of its female characters and i would understand if anyone walks away for that reason, i don't apologise it. 

Then we have the final. OH GOD THE FINAL. well i already keysmashed about it. But in general, if you are not bothered (that much, i hope you at least side eye) by the sexualisation of particularly Karen and Villeta, the whole thing is a 5 stars.
